[Q] How to enable the NFC when the screen is off? - HTC One X+

I bough a bunch of NFC tags and this will be a big time saver in many situations. Unfortunately, HOX+'s NFC doens't work when the screen is off, or on the lockscreen. It's the case of almost every cellphone...
I saw there's an apk for the original HOX to make it works (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1713354 ) but I supposed it isn't compatible with HOX+. I didn't try though because I'm not unlocked/rooted and this kind of test would require a nandroid backup in my opinion. Better safe than sorry they say...
Anyone tried it ? Anyone has a better solution ?

worked like a charm. I ran the 3rd download under ARHD 18.x. My phone is running the stock att Rom. and rather then using adb I just used root explorer to install the apk.

Any significant change in battery life? I'd love to have this since I have tags all over the place but don't wanna drain my battery unnecessarily.

[Q] which 2.3 rom has a working gps?

hey guys.
the title says it all. i want to update my phone to 2.3 but i need gps like really bad cause my job involves driving and it has to be reliable accurate and on the money.
there are a couple of roms out there that i am willing to try on the weekends just to try them out before i go with them permanently.
can you guys please recommend me a few. i care about gps the most more then anything else. cause i need it for work.
please and thank you in advance.
p.s. if the rom is stable, doesnt do reboots or get stuck etc etc would also be great cause for me time is money as i dont get paid hourly but per delivery
thanks again guys
Miui has working GPS but like all roms has other bugs and quirks.
I ran miui for several months and I to use my gps for work.
I just last week ended up going back to a stock 2.2.1 sgs rom for other reasons.
I havent had any luck with 2.3 roms and gps yet. Read that others have so maybe it's just my phone. I'm still searching for one too.
I've tried trigger 8/22, GingerZen and Simply Honey, which others have had gps success with (to some degree) but I haven't.
Still waiting for one to work for me.
I've had good luck with GPS using MIUI based ROMs. Most recently I have been using Revamped SS which gives me fairly strong GPS reception as long as I am outside and away from tall buildings.
Seconded for MIUI. Been using it for navigation around Cincinnati with no hiccups. If anything, it holds a lock better than Froyo did.
I'm pretty sure all have GPS "working". I've tried most of our 2.3 ROMs and the GPS werks as well or not as well as it has before on any firmware.
miui.us 1.9.30 is the first miui i've used. it's gps works perfectly.
I have had the best gps of a Samsung custom ROM in "RevolutionRom JVQ Final Update 2". use bullet kernel supplied.

[Q] Camera App

I don't know if this belongs here..
But, I was wondering if anyone could possibly tweak the camera apk to have a better auto balance for color. Or if it was possible to flash a different camera apk from a different HTC device that maybe has better white balance.
My pictures like to be orange indoors. Only sometimes does it go to florescent, not a huge deal as I can easily change it for use,a,different camera app (if any1 could suggest one, over than vingette). But I didn't know how hard it would be to tweak the stock one
Hey platinumrims I have the same orange hue picture problem inside. I've been using "CameraZOOM FX" a lot lately with out any problems.
Camera zoom is ok. Do you have an Orange circle in the middle of your screen? Cuz I do ¦~\

Edit: weird cuz its only there sometimes. I knew I hadn't seen it before. Also if you adjust saturation a tad on the stock app the pictures come out the right color. ill have to do more testing I guess. I just feel like auto should work properly. On its own.
Try this app on your phone and see if it works better http://goo.gl/j1xUu I have used this MIUI camera app I found on xda in another forum which I don't remember where and its awesome. This app will work on just about any android based phone. Hope this helps
Cool thx. Miui = my favorite.
My complaint is that the stock camera is a bit grainy. Maybe the jpeg compression is too high. I hope we get a way to change that soon. I wouldn't mind higher quality pictures with less compression.

Just tried this and I don't see how it's any better than any other app??
Is there a white balance setting, I couldn't find it.
Personally, I like Vignette the best by far of any camera app I have tried.

Miui is my favorite Rom. i like it more than sense.
And Yea that camera app doesn't work right for me. Flash doesn't work and the noise can't be silenced... I turned the saturation down one notch on the stock one and the colors look much better for the most part

[Q] Getting switched Droid X to Droid X2, have a couple of rooting-related questions.

So apparently because I've had to call three times I'm entitled to a brand new phone (as in not a refurb) and they don't have any more Droid X's so they're giving me an X2. Hey, I'm not complaining. Have a couple of questions though.
1) I have a ROM Manager backup of my CM7 install that I was using on my Droid X. Can I just restore that ROM onto the new X2 or do I need a separate build of the ROM?
2) I have the Motorola SDL SBF'ing software on my computer and some stock ROMs to restore to. I also have the Droid 3 rooting script. Is that all valid for the Droid X2 or do I need different stock ROMs, rooting methods, and/or SBF software?
And as a quick aside, I can just pop my extended battery into the Droid X2 right?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Everything you need is in this thread. Your droid x stuff will not work on the x2 including the cm7. I would recommend trying eclipse 2.03. Also DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER ON THE X2 it is not fully supported like the droid x.
Also i do not have a extended battery but my droid x and droid x2 were the same.

Awesome, thanks for that, that's exactly what I needed. I will also give Eclipse a go. If I might pick your brain on a couple more questions:
1) Googling around I get conflicting info about CM7 on the X2 (including your response actually). Some posts say it's not at all, some posts say it recently hit the release candidate stage...any idea?
2) Any guides to accumulated gunk I should remove from my SD card? You know, stuff like ROM Manager files for instance.
3) Does the X2 have the same annoying text message time stamp issue as the first one when trying to restore backed up text messages? It was never a HUGE deal but I also didn't like losing all my texts every time I had to do something with the phone.
Thanks again.

CM7 is in the works but I have not seen any release canidates as of yet. Or else I would be all over it. The developers have been working very hard on it.
As far as text messaging go not sure if I know what the original problem is. If I makr a nano back up of my rom the text will be there when I restore it. Not sure if that is what you were asking sorry. I tend to erase my text more than save sorry.

The Droid X has some kind of firmware bug that causes all text messages to restore as being sent/received at whatever time you do the restore of your text messages instead of showing the proper times.

Yeah I saw something about this. That's a bit unfortunate. But I only need it for bootstrapping right? I saw something about having to be plugged into the wall charger every time you have to reboot in order to maintain root but I'm not sure if it that's still (or ever was) valid info.

Also thanks for the battery thread link.
Here is a link to a good tutorial that was written up by moon shadow on setting up v6 super charger. It helps with gaming and speeds up performance. Everyone complains about music skipping but mine does not at all and I also use power amp paid version. tutorial says it is for eclipse 2.02 but will be the same for version 2.03. You will need to edit some lines from the eclipse oom grouping to make V6 stick. Read this thread and it should answer any questions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400349
Also you only need the bootstrap to flash zips or to back up and restore. Do not worry about loosing root. the bootstrap is the same as the one you are probably used to however they had to get it to high jack the charge mode to get it to work. But it should look the same once you are in.
And as far as tiatnium back up. It is personal prefference. I know some people swear by it. I just know that myself and others have ran into problems with it. For example a guy at work bought the galaxy nexus. As soon as he restored his titanium back up he lost connection to data. Happen to be the same day the 4G was down so he thought it was that until a day later and he still did not have 4g once he deleted his titanium back up and old saved back ups his data was recovered. Try it out and see if you have problems. Just nano back up first on a clean install of eclipse so if anything goes bad you can always restore and start over.

Thanks again for all the info. Is there any reason to do the V6 turbocharger if I don't really game on my phone?
I guess I have one last thing, about the SD card again. Would it be worth my while to back up the pictures and whatnot on my card to my PC, wipe the card to get rid of any old system settings, and then put everything back? And if so you have any ideas where I could find a checklist for things that I might want to grab/should grab (and shouldn't grab because they'll cause problems)?

It might not hurt but there shouldn't be anything on it that the system would try and use without you activating/running it. Id back up the pics and file then wipe it and start fresh....new phone clean sd card. Just my thoughts but then again that way nothing for sure can interfere. Besides...u don't need your droid x stuff including the backups anymore since they don't work and wouldn't work even if cm7 makes it to our phone

That is true if you are not gaming eclipse is just fine. Were you able to make it to 2.03? Nevermind I remember you said you do not have the phone yet. Let us know how it goes and if you need help along the way.
If you have problems with eclipse 2.0.3 wifi like I do try eclipse 1.3. Some have the wifi issue some don't. Seems like more don't than do. Not sure if maybe my router is slightly incompatible or if its just an issue with some phones. With mine on 2.0.3 it drops after about 1 minute, not a problem unless doing large downloads as it reconnects shortly after. I have checked sleep settings and all but still have the issues. Another note is even on 1.3 I have have to set screen not to sleep our it will cut out also. dragonzkiller is getting pretty close on cm7 I think but not entirely sure, he had some post on twitter about a nightly our something this morning.

Eclipse 1.3 was a very stable version and if you want to stay on 2.3.4 that is not a bad thing. I did have wifi problems on 2.0 but no problems with 2.02 or 2.03 wifi has been great. You can't go wrong with either one.

I will keep that in mind. And CM7 is pretty awesome. For the DX there are camera fixes that make things work, you can also download alternate camera APKs and those work too. And I'd just gotten everything set up the way I liked it on my phone too. Like, I'd just found these render effect widgets and one of the settings was like what F.lux does on the desktop.
Speaking of cameras apparently the DX2 doesn't have a dedicated camera button? Not a HUGE deal but definitely disappointing...furthermore it makes no sense why Moto removed it, the DX's camera button was really good. I just never understand why companies take these steps backward for no good reason.
I did not understand why they ditched the camera button also lol. Well good luck with your new phone tomorrow. Let us know if you need help tomorrow. I am off tomorrow I will keep an eye out for any questions you might have. With regards to eclipse if you choose to pick version 1.3 so you can stay on 2.3.4 or if you go to version 2.03 on the leaked 2.3.5 build. Both are very stable and Everything works. Both versions use the camera from the bionic it is nicer than the original blur camera in my opinion.
I just upgraded from a Moto Droid 2 Global and the X2 is so much more stable it's ridiculous, and of course faster.
I'm a big fan of CM7 too as I've run it on my nook color since Gingerbread was first released. However almost all development on Cyanogen now is CM9, the new version of Android: ICS and I dont see us getting that anytime soon. Still Eclipse is a solid rom.

Make sure you have the right TWRP. The camera won't work. You may download GApps, which supports Android 6.01, before you decide to install CM13.
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE YOU DO CLEAN FLASH THE CM13.ZIP.
You may need backup your data with 3rd party app, e.g. Titanium Backup Pro, to be able to restore to CM13. TWRP may not work as you would expect.

I don't recall anyone reporting that issue. There are numerous versions of cm13 out there. By more than one dev. My experience was better with some of the earlier builds. Feel free to state what app you are using for video and such as it will help. Development has someone slowed because CM may be close to a release themselves. Noone really knows at this point. Some recent changes in CM have caused me to stop trying. Probably another reason the rest have slowed. Feel free to try the camera fix and report back. Again its buggy but does work.

The video issue normally happens with facebook videos, youtube videos, instagram videos and snapchat videos but it seems to be working now. The snapchat camera does work but it takes about 45 seconds for it to come up after switching between front and rear camera and freezes often. With the instagram camera, it worked the first time i opened the app but wont work after. After about 5 minutes of messing with everything, Every app including the one i flashed says that they cannot connect to the camera and that i should restart the device. hope this helps

Yep. Reboot solves it until it hangs again. It has been tested for a month or so now. Some had better results than others. The camera it flashes works decently. Its just a temp fix into kernel is patched.
Which dev do you think has the best build? and which build is it?
For those wondering about using large SD Cards with MM, if the Mate will read and write to it, it should work fine. I am using this card http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-200GB-Micro-SDSDQUAN-200G-G4A/dp/B00V62XBQQ and it seems to be working just fine so far. Just got it and moved my stuff over to it today. Its a 200GB card but when formatted by the phone it shows as 183GB which is more than enough for me. I got it when they were running a special on them for $80. Right now they have gone up some as of 12/29 at 11:06 pm the card is selling for $109 with free shipping. For those that want to transfer a lot of music and videos to your phone this might be the card for you.

There are only two developers that I Have found that are make MM ROMS for the Mate two and if you search for them on AFH you can find them. They are Dargu and SHM. I use the builds that Dargu makes because they seem to be updated more Regularly, but you might like the builds made by SHM. I would suggest trying each one and seeing which one you like best and sticking with it or just flash whichever one is the newest at the time. Its basically a personal choice that each person has to make.

Ohhh okay. i get you. Just one last thing. I see in another thread that you modding the kernel to extend battery life. Is there a zip that i can flash to get this? like the modded rom or something?
Any new Supersu zips for this ?

Best to stick with root built into the ROM for now.
THANKS!
Sure appreciate the work on a MM rom. 10 years ago, I would have been right in the thick of it, flashing every
new one that came along, but, anymore these things are "just a phone" for me. I've been lucky with mine.
4.3 was stable, 5.1 is stable. The only issue I've had, is that on reboot, the launcher (nova) won't stick, but,
I don't turn it off or reboot but once in a blue moon.
I doubt if we'll see an official MM for the Mate2, but if a really stable one comes along, who knows, I might
give it a try. The camera MUST work for me, since I use it pretty much daily (work images for engineers).

Still love this phone, rocking 4.1.2

This "NoFrills CPU" app is fantastic for the 4.1.2 build on our phone. There's a setting in the app to prevent any other app from changing the clocks. After turning that on, I finally have true 1200mhz 24/7. I've been complaining about my phone up and down to my wife and after getting rid of setCPU and finding NoFrills, I feel really like there's no need for a new one. I'll rock this bad boy another couple of years!

I've been using my Moto X for about a month now and after reading your post, I decided to restore my Droid RAZR MAXX back to 4.1.2 and start using it again :good:
I was one of the early adopters of RAZR XT910 and used it for about 2 years and sold it. No matter how many better phones i bought, Razr always had its special place here. I got a Droid Razr Maxx with dead mainboard in great cosmetic condition and i got a XT910 with cracked screen and working mainboard two months ago, made myself a Franken Droid RAZR MAXX XT910 in mint condition. I sometimes get it out of the drawer to listen to music. It is a great device of its time and beyond.
ps : it would be nice to watch a video review of XT910/912 in 2016

I can say the fastest and most stable is the official 4.1.2 and custom roms based on stock 4.1.2 like ArtMod 4.3 for xt910. I just added
Arrow launcher as home
Blackplayer as music app
Piktures as the gallery app
The thing have still plenty of life left in it. Using an S7 edge daily but you can't beat the classics like xt910. lol.
