I have been playing with my friends gnex and have to say that I have been happy with my maxx and didn't care about ICS but after playing with it a bit I am getting anxious about it coming to the RAZR. I got the 181 update a few days before some others I know I just hope I get ICS before my friends so I can show it off. I just realized I'm a f'ing nerd!!

I just want to see ICS in my baby XT910 :c. I'm so desperate
I think that most people want to have the ICS on the razrs just because "it is not here yet but it definitely will come one day"...
You know - everyone wants exactly that what they can't have so that's the main reason of that ICS hype.... ;-)
...to be hones I can't wait to get it.... :-D
I want it and I want it now. I had the leak installed but it was a little too buggy for my tastes so I'm back on stock just waiting.

But you did use the chinese leak, I guess? Because from the new leak you cannot downgrade anyway.
btw: The new leak is working fine, very stable and fast.
Can someone tell me why they are crazy for ICS? I'm having 2.3.6 and it works pretty great.
I'm looking forward to trying out the new 'webtop replacement' because the performance of running linux on android is simply unusable.
I have both GNEX and Razr Maxx so I am not too crazy about having ICS...
In fact... I am (secretly) hoping the razr maxx ICS roll out later because I need to have a 2.3 device to test my app........
You guys are so silly...
I've had ICS 4.0.3 on my MAXX now for a few weeks using the first "official" supposed leak that came out. I even kept root on it. I've noticed SERIOUS changes!! First off the GUI is a whole lot smoother. The battery life? What can I say.. it's the MAXX.. I've noticed NO changes in battery life. In fact, I'm happier with the little things.. like on the email app that comes with ICS you can sync ALL mail, not just the last 30 days like on GB. (HUGE saver for me!) The keyboard.. I do miss the stock MOTOROLA GB keyboard. Sure wish I knew where I could get the apk for the MOTOROLA GB keyboard to bring it back. The camera even works faster (although the first photo still usually is ALWAYS blurry like it was on gb when trying to hurry and take a picture).
I'm overseas right now in Italy using my iPhone because I have the SIM activated but i'm SERIOUSLY wishing my MAXX would work over here because this iphone is crap compared to it! The only thing the MAXX has always sucked at is the camera, in which case the iphone spanks it all day long.
Any questions I can try to answer after using it for work for the past few weeks.
Later!

CRAP! Forgot to mention the BEST part about ICS over GB. My data connect issues are COMPLETELY gone. I've been through 3 new micro sims, a replacement razr, about to give up and decided to give ICS a shot and bam, 4G switches back to 3G without any issues now. Mobile hotspot is even more stable as well.
BTW one more ICS advantage is call recording included right in the firmware! Very nice feature that worths encountering "Customer ID error", etc on chinese leak

Coming from galany note I'm disappointed that the s3 didn't come with the social and readers hub.
Social hub being the more important app.
I was originally a HTC user and loved the friendstream widget..so I welcomed the social hub app on my note as they similar.
Seems the s3 gave replaced it with flipboard WTF

I do wish people didn't start these kind of threads, either research the phone properly before buying or if you think the problem can be resolved then log it in the QA section.
Not any regrations yet ..coming from sg
s2 missing some apps like Solaris office but it's okkk

Coming from a Desire/One X, I missed the Friendstream widget. Flipboard is not as good. However, I saw the Android Pro Widget recommended which I download from the Play Store. It is excellent - much more like Friendstream, the only downside being that you need to run separate widgets for Facebook and Twitter feeds.

stock is close to nil here. 7 days and counting for me (waiting for blue). even the white one is hard to find
Not much that can't be fixed with custom roms/mods/etc, and most of them will probably be fixed with official samsung updates too, but anyways:
- Smoother scrolling in messages (fixed by using Go SMS)
- Customizable settings widget in the dropdown menu
- Better optimized "deep sleep" to reduce the unlock lag
- Better optimized Wifi (many reports of "sudden stop" while still connected)
Other then that, I couldn't be happier with it. Such an amazing phone.
Nothing to complain about if you ask me, came from an crappy iphone
so this is like being in heaven
Well i'll bring the niceness down a little
I'm disopointed with gestures, swipe to take snapshot, hold palm to pause.
they are hit and miss for me, in fact i've not been able to pause it yet, and yes the funtion is turned on.
After a while the phone isn't super smooth, i mean dont get me wrong its silky smooth, but sometimes to maybe the untrained eye the phone takes that plit second to actually move (swiping pages on homescreen)
Gaming, is the smoothest i've played on a phone however stutters are visible on nova 3 (literally only for a split second) but i didn't expect this! (and yeah its not a S3 edition as its not out yet, so here hoping they optimize it better!
And the wake up lag was annoying, luckily got rid of that by turning s voice off!
But i believe as ICS is newish and the phone is brand new, these annoying things will be fixed in future updates.
I'm pleased with the phone but it doesn't have a gamepad like my xperia play does, lol
Superb, but the audio. Expecting Voodoo shall fix that hopefully. Sounds like my SG1 pre voodoo. Any sound playing that is quiet, you can hear static. Sounds like bad audio filtering etc.

I love my phone, but my only disappointment (as of now) is that there is hardly any development (ROM, Kernel) for this phone yet, compared to Galaxy S2, new ROM's and Kernel was coming out a lot faster at launch. Hopefully it start's to increase after the blue peddle version of S3 starts delivering.
Very disappoint !

Maybe you need to read issues before posting. We have no properly running drivers for ICS or JB. So things like this won't work perfectly soon or possibly even ever. Since Motorola is not updating us we will not be getting these drivers to make these things work properly. Reasons for heating are it being overclocked. So drop it to 1ghz to keep it from heating up.

@ganeshshas
i) For Opera, the latest version does not work. Try (i know it will work because it has worked for me always) to get version 11 of Opera and i bet it will work.
ii) I use CNA, and it has a reputation over here for its battery life on the Photon. Try that. But, keep in mind, even if u use the stock or CNA and use the phone heavily, it would not work for more than 4 hours. Sure of that. Plus, WiFi is always going to suck on the battery, so if u think any ROM will give u more battery life on WiFi, the answer sadly is No.
iii) We do not have drivers. Th3Bill and Joker have been giving this phone the best and i know it will get better, but issues are always going to be there. For Jitter, try the latest versions of CNA and AOKP and CM10 by Th3Bill, jitters have been reduced by 95% on his builds.
iv) Facelock is a show off feature right? i mean come on....who uses it on a regular basis...but Th3Bill is the man, he would do something for sure....
v)I Play Minecraft on a regular basis, and else than just a little bit of stuttering, there is nothing wrong with the touch response...have even played Riptide and only the Music stuttered.....
vi) I have only noticed the phone heating up when constantly searching for 3G (when one sets WCDMA Only in the *#*#4636*#*# menu) otherwise, it never heats up. Not even when playing any game for long.
I advice u to update the ROMs to the latest from Th3Bill.

Still,
I'm facing shaking problem while playing games like,. bad piggies, jetpack joyride and granny smith like such games,...
and battery is too worse
And mainly chrome Force closing...
No touch response while playing big games like TinTin,..
And Nova 3 is not supporting CM10 photon. But it is supported in 2.3.5.... ?
I've been sporting Joker's CM10 for a while now, and now that it's gotten some love from th3bill, I'm loving it even more. Battery life is poor, but I've accepted that and carry around a spare battery when I know I'm going to be away from electricity for a few hours. lol
Thanks a bunch th3bill for taking this on, it's greatly appreciated.

You just wipe dalvik cache, and cache partition, install new zip, fix permissions and reboot. To make sure you don't lose anything do as full backup first so you can go back if something goes wrong.

i love the phone itself but sort of regret getting it. I guess its my own fault for not looking up more into htc phones but coming from a GN where all you need is unlock and root when i saw we had that i got it, didnt realize with htc you need soff too. Then i foudn out no htc phones with no sdcard have soff yet. Im not a fan of sense and prefer the stock android experience or aokp only. anyone else feel like this? i love the phone, but dont like the soff situation with htc, and cant think of a better phone to switch to either cus i dont want the s3. and unfortunately nexus 4 isnt for verizon
I can relate to what you are saying.
For me, I set my expectation of this phone to be a great consumer phone, not a developer phone. So I decided not to root it or installing custom rom on it. Just use Android as a daily phone this time.
I have spent way too much time and energy on GNex switching between rom , which is something I really regret after a while. Not just full wipe everytime, but there is simply no single best rom can meet all asks. many of them are great initially, then slowly become slow and buggy, which I really can't figure out why, including CM10.
So that's why I look beyond such issues for HTC DNA, but evaluate it from a consumer point of view, "apple-type" user, if you will.
And I keep my galaxy nexus to play with, "in my lab".
If your expectation was to make this to be a full developer unit... it may not be the right phone, and verizon is not the right carrier in this case.
Many says playing around with all roms are "fun", but after long time of "playing around the roms" with more than 5 state-of-the-art smart phones in past 2 years, I will control myself on such "fun".
just some thoughts.
I feel the same
I feel the exact same way. No doubt about it though, the phone is great and the screen is amazing! I am just not a fan on Sense. I love me some AOSP. The phone also feels a little too big for my likes.
I am contemplating returning the DNA and getting the Developer Edition of the Razr HD. But if I did that, I might end up in the same boat as I do NOT have the skills needed to complile AOSP from source and get it running on the Razr HD.

I agree. I knre it wuldnt be much of a developer device. My main hope was jus for it to get aokp fully working. But not as much dev as the nexus with all their highly featured kernels, tbh i wish my nexus didnt break cus id still be on it. On the ROM flashing front - I'm trying to think of a scenario where you would make changes to /system while outside of recovery. Every time I flashed a ROM on my GNex I would reboot into CWM anyway - I'm assuming the only things that actually made changes to /system while not in recovery would be things like kernel controls?
It kills me that people buy an HTC phone and complain about Sense. It isn't like they "snuck" Sense on this phone behind your back.

This was the choice for most people that were tired of their GNex's, since Verizon won't work with the N4. Most of those people are used to stock AOSP, so its understandable. I came from the Inc, to Inc2, to GNex, and it was still a bit of a shock for me to go back to Sense.
I think most people also assumed that the development on this phone would be similar to what it was like on the GNex, which is not the case. Hopefully we get some stock android stuff going pretty soon so we can all rest easy

No kidding! Although I have to say that while I always liked Sense (way back from the Windows Mobile days), I stopped using it once phone screen sizes got bigger because Sense just made everything too big... and with some DPI tweaks I have actually found Sense to be quite usable on the DNA... I'm still trying to settle on my favorite launcher for this phone, but at least this time around Sense is in the running.
If I could get a zip that modifies it to a 5/4 or 5/5 layout it probably wouldn't even be a competition. For the record, other contenders are Chameleon Launcher, Apex, and SPB Shell 3D (in either Smartphone or Tablet mode)... Still can't make a decision. :silly:

i love this too. I got this phone because of sense and the screen! you all know it has sense I just love to hear people complain and it somehow puts up better numbers than the nexus 4 with aosp right out of the box. This phone hasnt even got roms yet just got unlocked! wait until s-off and then people will have their flavor of aosp or sense! And also remember how long it took for galaxy s3 to get unlocked? it could take awhile so we will see how many true HTC followers there is here or just people jumping ship for the next great quad core 1080p phone. should be interesting. The positives outweigh the negatives for me! Whenever i use phone i dont regret it for a second! Sense is one of the most extensive and nicest setups in android by far to me!

Well, I like a lot of screen real estate, and sharp, small-ish text (I bought a 13" Macbook Pro just for that 2560x1600 resolution - and I'm using Windows 7 on it), but I have my DPI set to 370. Android Pro Widgets replace any of the Sense widgets where possible (SMS, Agenda) because they can render a smaller font, but I still use the native 4x1 Clock/Weather widget, and of course the Mail widget - and I have all my quick launch items set to use folders - System, Social, Travel, and Multimedia.

s-off is coming dsb said that is was close. I was a strong "htc" until the galaxy s3 came out back in July. After being frustrated with Samsungs weak radios i came back home to HTC. I wouldn't expect s-off anytime soon, regardless of what dsb says.
Now if jcase says it, I will believe it (assuming he isn't doing his regular rickrolls).
I would call myself an intermediate level flasher. I've used stock rooted, eclipse 2.3 and cm7 and cm10 roms. What I don't get is why would someone want the look of an ICS or JB rom if half or even a few of the things on the phone don't function. If someone wants their phone to look cool or wants to be able to customize it more, they generally gravitate to a cm rom. I understand that cm7 is more stable than 9 or 10. I've been on cm7 and can't say that I was all that impressed. Before that I was on eclipse using adw ex launcher and I was able to customize my screens as much as or more than cm7. Cm7 uses adw as the default launcher but it's not the updated or ex version of it. When I was on it, I had issues with wifi and my music on my sdcard was all screwed up. So I have a hard time understanding why anyone would sacrifice functionality over having a rom that talks the talk but can't walk the walk. ICS and JB roms promise but can't deliver. I do hope that the dev community can find fixes for the many bugs with them, but until then I'm happy having a fully functioning phone that I can customize just about as much as anyone running an ICS or JB rom.
Also, how many of you use your DX2 as your primary phone as opposed to a secondary or Guinea pig? I'm sure that this has a lot to do with what people are willing to put up with just so they can say they are running ICS or JB.

It's different strokes for different folks. Just there mere fact of being able to try something different or simply dress up your phone drives alot of people to being habitual flashers.
My bride uses my X2 every day. It's running CM7 mashed up and supercharged. Runs like a top and doesn't skip a beat. Sometimes I miss my lil buddy and pick it up for a cache wipe or simply just to tinker with it.
I dont remember CM7 being that bad. The only issue I remember hearing about was staying connected to wifi. I used an app that kept my wifi on as long as I was connected to my wifi so I never had that problem. The SD card wasnt screwed up. It made it so you had more room for apps and stuff. It was always reversible if you didn't like it. And I dont remember ADW being the default launcher in CM7. Cyanogenmod has always used the launcher that came with stock Android until they started making their own, I believe.
But as far as updating to ICS or Jelly Bean, I did it obviously to try it out first. I found out that, yes, some stuff didnt run as well but it usually wasnt something I used that much, if at all. For me, everything still worked good. Dragonzkiller did a great job with what he had to work with. I keep hearing people complain about some features they cant use in ICS or Jelly Bean but I really have no issues with Jelly Bean for what I use my phone for. It works great for me. And it really does look better that Gingerbread. Gingerbread was really ugly in my eyes.
The Droid X2 is the only phone I use so its my primary phone that I flash everything on.
CM7 runs great, read the entire thread to find the various tweaks and workarounds.
My DX2 is my primary, for about one more week anyway, then it fall backup to the DNA.
I love cm7 the rest are ok I appreciate everything that any dev does for the community! I would and have tried all roms for all of my devices
And yes this is my primary phone
don't be scared it's only a phone

The wifi at my work drops and reconnects periodically through the day. Probably about 4 or 5 times an hour so cm7 for to be annoying. I would have to toggle wifi off then on for it to reconnect. Whereas eclipse automatically reconnects to my network at work.

In the wifi settings, do you have the option to "keep wifi on during sleep" selected?

Also, there are some apps in the play store that will help with wifi:

I've tried those apps and they don't help. It doesn't disconnect when it's sleeping. It will randomly disconnect while the screen is awake. I experience this only with the network at work. Everywhere else it stays connected. It did it on stock as well as all roms I've installed. The problem isn't my phone.

on eclipse using adw ex launcher and I was able to customize my screens as much as or more than cm7. Cm7 uses adw as the default launcher but it's not the updated or ex version of it.

One of the reasons why I switched over to cm7 was because I heard there was a lot more customization from the default launcher, which if used instead of downloading another launcher to run on top of it, would save me some ram. So I figured if I was going to use ads ex launcher, I would use it on a rom that actually was bug free.

So I switched back to eclipse. I wanted a rom that I could flash and just go and not have to run any scripts or workarounds to get certain apps or features to work on my phone. I depend on my phone on a daily basis and can't afford to not have everything working. I primarily use my phone for pictures, music, videos, both taking and watching, Facebook, email, and moderate browsing. Stock provided me with all of these things but my ram would be used up in no time and wasn't as fast. After I rooted I deleted some bloatware but wanted to be able to somewhat customize my screens and stock rooted didn't offer me that.

I think you are being a little picky with the ROMs we have. You have to understand, this phone is not like others. It is locked down big time by Motorola so its hard to do major developing for. This is the reason anything other than Gingerbread ROMs are going to have a lot of bugs. Motorola never updated this phone past Gingerbread and even the stock ROM has bugs so thats got to tell you something. I'm running Jelly Bean and it fits all my needs for what I use it for. But everyone is different. Honestly, I have loved the year and a half experience I have had with this phone but it is getting outdated fast and the only way you will have a perfect Android experience is if you update your phone. Thats what I'm planning on doing as soon as I have the money to do so. My suggestion for you is to stay on Eclipse. Thats the best you are going to get out of this phone.
I use the DX2 as my primary phone. I run JB AOKP and it works fine as a daily driver.
P.S. i use it most to say i have JB
Have my Droid X2 rooted to CM10 right now. It's my primary (well, only) phone, which is the primary reason I even bothered putting the time into rooting it. I had too many issues with the stock rom, and CM7 just made things worse for me. The WiFi issue, among others, just broke the phone for me.
All in all, I'm not completely happy with CM10, but I prefer it IMMENSELY over stock/CM7. It's enough to last me until I get a new phone, at least.
