Maybe you need to read issues before posting. We have no properly running drivers for ICS or JB. So things like this won't work perfectly soon or possibly even ever. Since Motorola is not updating us we will not be getting these drivers to make these things work properly. Reasons for heating are it being overclocked. So drop it to 1ghz to keep it from heating up.

sadly it's unlikely. they need to also unlock the bootloaders. since i'm moving off to the Note II, i really don't care what moto does from this point on. i'm getting rid of their junk. good luck to you and everyone who has a moto. i hope the drivers become available!

Hey....the Photon isn't junk. It's a seriously nice piece of hardware. Just because the manufacturer is making douche moves doesn't make the device not worthy of praise.
We'll miss ya on here...I've seen you in my threads for a LONG time. I'll be most likely upgrading in Jan, though I am not sure what to..LOL

I doubt they will release them. I am going to play around with using ones from other Tegra2 devices once I get a chance...just going to take it easy for tonight...I'm a bit tired.

Haha. Yeah. I agree! It's not junk. I'm just upset over it ): I'll still have this phone and continue to help out until it's dead. I'll even keep my site up to help everyone until the end of time. Thanks to you and joker this phone has been amazing!

@ganeshshas
i) For Opera, the latest version does not work. Try (i know it will work because it has worked for me always) to get version 11 of Opera and i bet it will work.
ii) I use CNA, and it has a reputation over here for its battery life on the Photon. Try that. But, keep in mind, even if u use the stock or CNA and use the phone heavily, it would not work for more than 4 hours. Sure of that. Plus, WiFi is always going to suck on the battery, so if u think any ROM will give u more battery life on WiFi, the answer sadly is No.
iii) We do not have drivers. Th3Bill and Joker have been giving this phone the best and i know it will get better, but issues are always going to be there. For Jitter, try the latest versions of CNA and AOKP and CM10 by Th3Bill, jitters have been reduced by 95% on his builds.
iv) Facelock is a show off feature right? i mean come on....who uses it on a regular basis...but Th3Bill is the man, he would do something for sure....
v)I Play Minecraft on a regular basis, and else than just a little bit of stuttering, there is nothing wrong with the touch response...have even played Riptide and only the Music stuttered.....
vi) I have only noticed the phone heating up when constantly searching for 3G (when one sets WCDMA Only in the *#*#4636*#*# menu) otherwise, it never heats up. Not even when playing any game for long.
I advice u to update the ROMs to the latest from Th3Bill.
Regards

Still,
I'm facing shaking problem while playing games like,. bad piggies, jetpack joyride and granny smith like such games,...
and battery is too worse
And mainly chrome Force closing...
No touch response while playing big games like TinTin,..
And Nova 3 is not supporting CM10 photon. But it is supported in 2.3.5.... ?

I've been sporting Joker's CM10 for a while now, and now that it's gotten some love from th3bill, I'm loving it even more. Battery life is poor, but I've accepted that and carry around a spare battery when I know I'm going to be away from electricity for a few hours. lol
Thanks a bunch th3bill for taking this on, it's greatly appreciated.

I want to upgrade new cm10 build with existing cm10 on my mobile.with out losing data....
Can somebody pleas help me to update with out losing data?

You just wipe dalvik cache, and cache partition, install new zip, fix permissions and reboot. To make sure you don't lose anything do as full backup first so you can go back if something goes wrong.

Chrome Beta a system hog!

So I really wanted to like the Chrome Beta browser. I love Chrome on my PC and syncing bookmarks and open tabs is nice. This browser is over 60 MB! In comparison, Dolphin HD is just under 6 MB. It never actually closes, staying open and draining battery and eating up memory. How has everyone else's experiences with Chrome Beta been? You sticking with it or moving back to something a little less resource intensive?

Nope. Been in on more Beta tests than you could ever know. Did expect for it to be a little less bloated. And the part where you post your helpful experiences comes in where......
I like the browser and I'm going to keep it even if it's big. I don't think it supports flash though which could be a deal breaker for some people but I don't mind really, I don't go to sites that require flash on my phone anyways.
I haven't noticed a big impact on battery life as I did when I first installed Google+ (having notifications off on that app saves a lot of juice).
To me it's a keeper for now, I haven't seen enough impact for me to really think I should uninstall it, but I'll keep a closer look to make sure it doesn't go out of hand.

Now that I've used System Panel to check memory usage, I'm worried about how I only see 1 CPU being used. CPU 2 is completely idle... different issue though

Yeah, the notifications on G+ are a huge impact. I think that checking task manager and seeing it constantly running is what bugs me. Hard to compare as far as battery goes coming from GB ROMs. I just find I'm constantly peeking to see if it started back up after I kill it! The CPU scaling is odd on any ICS ROM, and hopefully a final release kernel will remedy some of it.
It always stays enabled in the background which in turn killed my battery, nothing has come close to getting me off of Dolphin HD.
I noticed that too. I decided I'm not going to use it anymore until they have some more settings included, like being able to switch to desktop user mode. But I can't wait til it's out of beta and is running a little bit quicker.

I'm with you there. Dolphin adding sonar has made an already badass browser even better!
It is a bit big, but I've noticed no difference in battery life or performance since I've been using Chrome Beta. I like it. In fact, I've removed the stock browser entirely now.
I am not a fan of companies releasing Beta products out to the public. People just don't seem to be able to understand that it is not even close to being a finished product. I think companies need to wait until they have gone past the Beta test stage of development and moved to Release Candidate stage. Maybe do limited Beta release to select people. Not the whole market.

Beta on beta is bad choice, period. Since you have been beta testing allot you should know that it's a big no no on any beta app testing. I know that for a fact. You can't judge the app when your OS is not ready for prime time

I have yet to hear about your experience with Chrome Beta. This is beside the fact that the OS is, and has been, running perfectly for some time. I can judge the app on the originally stated points. It's too big for what it does, it's a memory hog, and it constantly stays running in the background with three services going. As a good beta tester would know, Google wants to know about issues and these have been reported. And for the record, the devs who have been working on these ICS leaks have put together awesome ROMs that are very ready for primetime and are well past what I and most others would consider beta material.

Ok. Big? You have 2GB space for apps. Memory hog? Again you have 1 GB of ram that it's dynamically managed by the system. The resources are there and they are being used. Plus there is a ton of debugging stuff in the current beta builds.
As far as the ICS ROMS yes the devs made a hell of a job but it's still NOT prime time material. Wait till they get the officially released kernels. The phone will rock!

Well in the context in which I was talking "whole market" indicates applicable devices - as in ICS devices.

Not only big. Huge! over ten times the size of Dolphin HD and it has voice recognition. Just because there is room for apps doesn't mean it needs to be used in excess does it? Yes, the resources are being used. Along with battery, which is at a premium already. I won't back off the fact that the ICS ROMs ARE, in fact, prime time material. They are all stable, all features function properly. Have you tried them? Have you tried the browser? The phone already rocks! No doubt the official kernel will improve upon things, but there isn't really a whole lot more that they could offer over what we're using now.

so far so good. project butter is instantly noticeable (my first JB device...)
So far no ANRs after opening and closing Chrome Brower a bunch (used to get them pretty often)... only been 15 minutes, so I'm still cautious.

a bit sluggish for the first boot.
opening apps for 1st time is slow but after that is butterly smooth.
screen swiping is damn smooth.
love how google now works although i don really use it.
quadrant score is around 3.3k in performance mode
and again screen rotation take 4-6 seconds!

I seem to remember at least one Nexus 7 review said this slowness was a 'feature' - i.e., to prevent accidental rotations...as such it might be intentional.
My screen rotation animation starts after one second and completes a half second later. If the virtual keyboard is up, it takes an extra second for the rotation animation to start. I haven't experienced any 4 to 6 second delays but it could conceivably be slower with more resource-intensive apps.
Awesome update, running stock unrooted, web browsing is much, much better, its actually enjoyable now. I havent tried chrome yet, was only using stock browser with default settings with flash set to always on.
Project butter makes things run smoothly.
Google now is pretty awesome.
Thats all i noticed for now.
Great job asus!!
Update went well. Chrome running great. Weather Widget stuck on Centigrade. Scrolling is nice and smooth. No complaints after an hour of use.

i m afraid i ll disagree
after 3-4 reboots..
performance IS better though dont excpect to see the butterness of a galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7. Stock launcer is by far improved, faster smoother and very very responsive. I noticed some lag when scrolling on portrait mode but it was the moving wallpaper...disable it and itll be ok.
screen rotation IS noticable faster
opening apps IS faster though i noticed a small hickup when opening some of the times
Google now is working lovely, fast and loud. When in portrait at lock screen the google now icon dissapears, u have to landscape it to appear and use..:silly:
Chrome is a bit faster...not much, but it is better at least in responsivness...no ANR till now. Stock browser still better..
Nova launcher wich i use needs a clear cache/data and then its absolutely amazing
stock gallery takes about 3-4 sec everytime to open ..thats bad
Youtube app seems faster overall to me..
Maps just the same..
seems to me Asus did a good job here...just good

When I checked it this morning (3 different times!) all I get is this message-

So the update is out, but it's not downloading yet for me. Maybe a lot of people are all trying to download at the same time? Who knows. I'm completely stock in case anyone is wondering. Anyone else seeing that message?

I got the same message and even rebooted a couple times with no success. Then i gave up and left it alone, and like 10 mins later my prime notified me that it dowmloaded the update and is ready to install. So i guess anyone with a greyed out check update box, it will eventually download on its own.

*UPDATE*
Finally began downloading the update after the 5th time of rebooting and then checking for update. The install took roughly 18-20 minutes. No issues with the install so far. Slightly laggy, but that's normal until a few reboots after firmware update (every firmware update has been like that for me so I'm pretty sure it's normal).
So far so good

My Wifi is still slow but thats expected with the metal cover.. Thats about the worse thing I can say at the moment..
Has anyone tried replacing the primes back cover with one from a TF300? Isn't it the exact same size??
ASUS did a fantastic job (so far..) in my opinion..

I'll be holding off updating until a root method is discovered, the reason being that I'd like to restore my user apps with Titanium Backup, as I'll be resetting to factory defaults right after the upgrade. Not taking the chance of crap performance manifesting itself later after my god-awful experience with ICS. If by the end of October I'm still dissatisfied with my Prime, I'll be selling it at a loss and saying adiós to ASUS.
I got the download, but when I try to install it and rebooted it said it failed. Went to check update again, it's says there's no update.
Anybody else with the same issue?

I had to update manually when it is failed for OTA. You may need to download the complete ROM and update it from SD card.

[Q] So you think you're so "special"?!?!?

I have a question for all those guys that make a big deal about having their phone upgraded to ICS or JB. I would like to know what is the big difference or a feature that would make my phone Atrix that's stuck on GB so special? I mean, I can run any browser I want except maybe chrome, I can run any email app and watch and listen to music just like on upgraded phone... oh and lets not forget I can still make phone calls. Have I been living under a rock or do you know something I don't? Please let me know

Well firstly, ICS/JB is soo much smoother and much more asthetically pleasing. Many more people prefer ICS/JB and they are entitled to their own opinions.
Also, many people are angry at MotoFail because they promised us ICS and did not deliver. This is what has caused most of the outrage.
Well, yes I'm mad myself that they did not upgrade my $600 phone. BTW I'm using GO Launcher so my phone still looks pretty good and I can't complain about not being smooth. If this is it, it ain't that bad.

Yes, for now most applications support GB, but as percentage of ICS/JB will grow, more and more application developers will dump GB support. There are some bugs in GB that are not fixed and probably won't be ever fixed, so some developers make workaround for them, some don't, so you can stumble upon one of those if you are 'lucky'. Most of new applications are primarily targeting new ICS interface with Action Bar, so they support GB with third party Action Bar library which also has a lot of bugs, some application features could be disabled because it is hard or impossible to implement them in GB. And things will get worse...

I agree, these two things may seem small, but going back from CM10.1 to CM7 makes it feel like my phone is very slow (although I'm sure this is more of a perception than a real difference).
ICS and JB bring UI enhancements. More importantly, there are apps that only work on ICS and above and will never be backported, Which apps are important to users, depends on the user. For instance, Brighthouse and TWC have cable apps that only work on ICS and above. And as time goes by, you'll find more and more newer apps will require ICS and later, especially since ICS itself was released 16 months ago.
But you're right, you can still make phone calls and you can still use 2 year old apps. But if all you care about is using just a phone, you can get one without paying for a smartphone plan for a hell of a lot less money. And while it's unrealistic to have the latest greatest software at all times for the term of the contract, the device at least should not be obsolete before the ink dries on that contract. While the device still mostly works as it did when it was new, the actual resale value has plummeted since the ICS update cancellation announcement, so much so that a decent protective case costs more than what the device is currently worth.
So when it comes to why people make such a fuss about ICS, aside from the cancelled update, and aside from all the marketing hype that went into the device that got people to buy it in the first place, and aside from the fact that ICS and JB are that much better or they wouldn't be considered updates/upgrades, some people like to at least be a little current. After all, why go buy a new computer when people will give you an old one running windows 3.11 for free? Who knows, maybe you can find an old Univac somewhere. While we're at it, why use anything new at all when we can go back to wearing animal hides and banging rocks together to make tools.
I should tell you about the security vulnerabilities as well, but I'm not going to. Sometimes the lesson becomes more valuable when the person learns on their own, even if it's with some rogue dialer hooking you up with one of those $100/minute pay per call lines like back in the days of dialup.

Well, yes I'm mad myself that they did not upgrade my $600 phone. BTW I'm using GO Launcher so my phone still looks pretty good and I can't complain about not being smooth. If this is it, it ain't that bad.

Go Launcher is smooth only after first one or two clicks. It has many advantages like foldering but for the smoothness, i dont think so.
What pisses me off about GB is notification bar pull-down. Sometimes it gets damn so laggy and slow.
Google Now, Multiple GTalk logins, stable push connection, data counter/limiter, better app support, interface that's easier to use and navigate, faster, and many other improvements.
Stable push connection is the one that really made me not want to go back. When I'm on mobile data on GB it would disconnect every 4-5 minutes, and then wait for a few minutes before reconnecting, and then disconnect again after another 4-5 minutes, ad infinitum. I can't tell you how many times I've been frustrated seeing gray status bar icons instead of green ones. And the fact that GB's push mail & market is dependent on the gtalk service doesn't help.
Gray icons? No gtalk messages, no mail, no downloading from the market.
Signed out of gtalk? No mail, no downloading from the market.
It was frustrating...
I don't care about staying in gb, imo the problem is that there are apps made only for 4.x+ and in a close future gb will be definitely dead.

I bought this phone 9 months ago for 300€, even a Lapdock (120€), and I hear that ICS won't be delivered by Moto and my digitizer starts glitching (A full zone of the screen). Now my phone is unlocked the warrantly is void. This is what makes me angry.

I'm surprised that Motorola hasn't recognized the digitizer problem. Too many people are affected by it.

The digitizer doesn't mean much to them. The device is 2 years old and they stopped caring long ago.

I think you guys are exaggerating a little bit. I mean I went to the store and played with phones that run JB and my old Atrix is pretty much just as smooth. I can play Youtube videos in 1080p no problem. And Google Now... do I really need it? I mean I don't live in my phone or on facebook like some of you hard core cell phone users. Balintmaci what did you notice that was so special when browsing on JB OS? Im using Opera browser and it runs pretty fast.
balintmaci said:
smoothness, many apps, YouTube in 720p for instance. hardware acceleration makes it WAY faster. you can not compare the browsing experience... Google now. that's just what I can think of in a few seconds... i believe that's more than enough.

Less reboots/stability
My stock FY/GB Atrix rebooted randomly a lot. It's the whole reason I looked into roots and ROMs in the first place.
I rooted...unlocked...and put epinters CM10 on my Atrix cuz Motorola said I couldn't!
Haha... good for you mister. Now I'm a total newbe so pardon the stupid question. When you guys flash roms to CMx... ie ICS or JB does this allow you to download and install apps that require that OS from play store?

Same. Got the device in September of 2011 from local AT&T store, in October it started randomly rebooting, even after several factory resets. Between that and the unified messenger spam, I was not impressed.

Yes...and I can flash back to a GB rom anytime I want. I prefer the JB rom without all the bloatware and epinters rom is very good.

What ROM would fit the needs for gaming, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram?

I have tried Molten 2.3 redux, Liberty3, Eclipse 2.3 and yes also the ultra popular CM7 . Honestly leave CM7 out beause it has a huge impact on my mms and sms and I don't like that ! Anyways you guys should recommend any other ROMs I have not listed or tell me which is better of the top three ! Thank you
I would recommend eclipse. I havent tried gaming on it but I'm sure its a ok. Give it a try, if you don't like it try another rom. flashing never hurts

i mean , if you are someone who plays games on a console, and mainly uses a computer for communication/web browsing , cm10 is by far the best phone experience available for the droid x2. i use mine for mainly sms, mms, calls, playing music, and a bit of browsing/youtube . i have never had even ONE force close. it all depends on what you use your phone for i guess. the thing is, once you have used 4.0+ for a decent amount of time , gingerbread (even looking its best in eclipse) is bland and stiff. it is really hard to go back.
also, it really doesnt matter if it is gingerbread or jellybean, the reason this phone has so many issues is purely our lack of ram. something i had no idea to even pay attention to when looking at phones. i can be running eclipse 2.3, and if i even try to have a widget that requires data , or anything more than one or two "add on apps ", my phone either force closes things, or just hot reboots itself just like when it was stock. it is an awesome phone. my first android phone. and also the most frustrating phone i have ever owned. sorry , i usally dont type much and figured i would give my fifty three cents on the subject. cheers!

Thanks for really making me see on the bright side of cm10 So do you have anything frozen with Titanium Back up? Because last time i ran cm10 i had little to no ram of space and i didn't install any other apps. My ram was about 59-102 MB left, I'm pretty sure it is because we lack ram space but yes

i just run absolutely no apps besides what comes on cm10, and i loaded an inverted youtube and gmail that i found that work just fine. funny you responded, because all afternoon this thread has had me thinking about if i am actually happy on cm10. i do miss being able to use atleast a few apps, and not have to worry if they will even work. i do also miss knowing that if i want to, i can take a video. im kind of in the same boat as you. every time i try a new rom, i miss eclipse. ugh.

Ha same here man I decided to go with cm7 and wow ! Not in a good way lol. My battery drained so quicky. Usually My battery would be at 90 by the end of the school day (using Eclipse 2.3) but with CM7 it was around 64 . Well I'm curently thinking of going back to Eclipse but I also really like Molten 2.3 and Liberty I don't which to pick but I rather use Gingerbread because I get on Facebook, Twitter, and play some gaming through out the day. Well let me know if you decide to go back to Eclipse 2.3 or you give Liberty or Molten 2.3 a try
i would have to say that it has gotten very old wondering if certain apps will work on cm10. also i find myself not feeling , for lack of a better word "secure" that my phone will be able to make the call, or send that text. ill get 3 texts lumped together while i have perfect signal, and who even knows what my battery is even at? not me. :crying: lol. eclipse has always been my favorite in terms of speed and stability. back to 2.3 and a fully functioning (reliable) phone . i am going to see about learning to make a few more themes for us for 2.3 as well. since it seems to be this phones only hope. the things that bug me about cm10 will never be fixed. so time to accept the gingerbread truth . :good:

CM10 a3 Thanks!!

Less than 10 posts so I have to post here!! Thanks to ANYBODY that had a hand in CM10!!! Installed CM10 a3 coming from the latest Eclipse. The only issue I had was google now crashing. Got the latest google search from jsgraphicart post# 1257 in the Development thread. Also used VideoCam Illusion for camcorder. ADW and Apex launchers killed my battery so I went back to stock. Loving Jelly Bean!! :good:
Loved A3, but not matter what I did, it killed the battery in just a couple of hours, so I had to go back to Eclipse.
i also love cm10, i just flashed back to eclipse 2.3 last night and have been thinking about an sbf all day. i mean, if you arent a heavy user, and you dont use many or ANY apps, cm10 runs very well.
I was pretty much forced to go back to CM10 from Eclipse. I was running a2 for a while, but couldn't deal with my apps crashing on me all the time. Lots of games, e-mail and Facebook, and a few others.
But, after a couple months with Eclipse... man, my phone was crashing a MINIMUM of twice a day due to the memory hitting a wall. I jump around a lot, going from facebook to a few games to mail within a half-hour or so. For whatever reason, Eclipse just wouldn't clear RAM properly, and it would force-reboot constantly.
Got sick of it and switched to a3, and gotta say I'm so much happier. I mean, I never disliked CM10, just the crashing was driving me nuts. But, I figure a crashed app on occasion is WAY better than a force-reboot. Plus, I found a post about an app that fixes the Google crashing issue.
Now, if only there were fixed apps for Gmail and Facebook...

This was brought up a while ago in the CM10 thread. Apparently the Blacked out Facebook app doesnt force close. I dont use Facebook so I never tried it. But you can get it here:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/b-...er-popular-apps-blacked-out-mar-8th-13-a.html
As far as Gmail, I'm not sure if anyone found a working one. But I think Gmail on the web works good.
I thought I saw that a while back, but couldn't find it again when I was looking for it. Thanks for that. I'll also have to give in-browser Gmail a shot, makes sense that it shouldn't close like the app does.

Ah. I think I know why. They updated it to the newest version which I think is the problem. The same thing that happened with Google Now. I think one of the updates messed it up for the DX2. I'll try searching through the CM10 thread and see if anyone posted the old apk.
EDIT: Maybe this one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36087163
Or maybe any of these versions (listed on the right hand side):
http://www.androiddrawer.com/2274/download-facebook-for-android-1-9-7-app-apk/#.UUN-W1toTpg
I'm just trying to find an old apk that might work for you.
I also like CM10 but the battery life scares me away every time, i use the DX2 as my main phone.

i feel the same. after eclipse, cm10 goes to 50% after a half of a day with little to no use, and .... it is a very hard decision to make.
I haven't actually seen that much of a change in battery life between Eclipse and CM10. When I use them moderately, the battery life still plummets midway through the day, and if I don't use it at all, it will go two days on a charge. That much didn't change between them at all.
@jsgraphicart: You didn't have to do so much legwork, but I'm sure anyone who visits this thread that didn't see it before will appreciate it. I'll give those a try and report back which one (if any) works on our CM10.
I think I am done with eclipse for good. After a fresh install it will be very fast but over time it gradually begins to slow down and I get some processes that force close and some reboots. I also haven't noticed that much difference in battery life between eclipse and a3. Facebook hasn't crashed on me yet and I am on it many times during the day.

Actually figured out what the problem is. Which, I knew it before, but forgot. 90% of the Black Facebook works on CM10. The part that doesn't? Groups pages and Events pages. Those continue to crash, because apparently they use something different for those.
So, while the regular portions of Facebook have not caused the app to crash, every time I go to Groups (which I do A LOT) causes it to CTD.
