So I bought this DNA at best buy and the guy gave me two SIM cards, the one currently installed and another one. Can I remove the SIM card and put in the new one and it will go back to pre OTA? Or does the SIM card have nothing to do with it?

Nothing at all. Sim card just connects you to the network.

It also stores phone contacts
It can store contacts. That's more of a hold over feature from the pre-smart phone days. Honestly if you have an android phone and you're not syncing your contacts with google than you're doing something wrong. (I suppose there may be tin-foil hat wearing people out there that don't want to give google that information, but considering what you're giving them just by using an android phone those people should probably avoid the platform entirely). Even if you were planning to switch from an android to an iPhone it would make more sense to just import your google contacts in iOS than use the SIM to transfer them.

hi guys, i've been having a problem about my network. sometimes my data isn't working at all but it doesn't really says that it's disconnected to fix it i have to reboot. I tried different roms but my data still drops sometimes like 4 times a day.
so is there any chance that i broked the phone's data antenna even my calls still work? i have the phone for 6 months and this is the first time this has happened. i really don't want to exchange my phone to tmobile but if that's the only way to try then that's what i'll do.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I would suggest getting a new SIM card. In most cases a new sim card will fix that problem. I work for T-Mo and that's usually a good fix. If that doesnt work then try a factory reset. If that doesn't work then warranty. Good luck!!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
yeah i have done a factory reset. So i'll ask t mobile for a new sim card?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Just go to a store and ask for a sim replacement. Since its a damaged sim they should just replace it for free.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I don't need to call them? i'll just directly go to a tmobile?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yes sir. They will activate your number on to it and put it in the phone. Off you go. That simple.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
When you bought your Vibrant, check in the box, there should be 2 sim cards.
i just called t mobile today and they said that my sim card is old which is weird. my sim card came with the phone 6 months ago. is there really a new sim card?
So they said i do need to change my sim card, will my number be changed?

If he upgraded to the vibrant and the rep happened to leave the sim in there then there would be another one. There is typically only one sim per box.Usually if you are an existing customer and you upgrade the rep will take the sim out of the box and keep it.

Nope. Number will stay the same. They just activate the new card with your number and deactivate the old. Yes, they came out with a new version of the sim card a while ago.

oh ok thanks. i really forgot to ask why did they put this sim if it's not compatible with the phone. I didn't know that they have a newer sim card.
thanks!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Well the one that you have should work fine. But like anything else they occasionally go bad. They updated the sims when they started upgrading the network. Just gives a better connection on 3g/4g.

First off what does this mean and why is it saying this. I have not rooted my phone or made any modifications at all to my phone. And I have never removed my sim card. I have only had my phone for less the a month. Also sometimes my phone says I do t have a sim card inserted when I know I do. This has happened to me once before.
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

its a known issue with the dna.
try reseating the sim card and rebooting the phone. If the issue persists or comes back ofter go to a verizon store and get a new sim card
I woke up this morning and my sim card was acting up I put it back in because I was lucky enough to have the tool with me and it's better now. I honestly thing it's my sim card because my brother also has this phone and he hasn't had any issues with his sim card at all

So I'm planning on selling my dna very soon. Tired of small memory, bad battery life, and sim card problems. My question is, if I remove my sim card, then sell it. Will the buyer still be using my plan because of the esn being linked to my account? Also I want to pay full retail and get an s4. Will just inserting my sim card into the s4 switch my phone over? Thanks guys
Ya the other person who buys will not be using your plan
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
No just putting in your SIM wont work on the s4 .
You first need to release the esn on the DNA once you sell so that the buyer can have a clean esn.
Then after you will call and have the s4 on your account an then use the SIM you had or get a new one

Are you sure about that. I've popped my SIM card in a phone that isn't on my account and it works fine.

If it's the same SIM yes it would work but you have to relese the old esn bc you have have to devise on one phone so once your account is open meaning no phone on the account you can then swap

Release ESN/IMEI (No need to worry)

You do NOT need to worry about doing anything. Just take out your SIM. When you get another phone, just put it in. I had the same phone on my account, and my boss's account at the same time while just holding onto the SIM cards. (Meaning I didnt have a phone in my possession, JUSt a sim card linked to my account.)
That was when the Galaxy S3 came out, but I've done the same thing multiple times dealing on craigslist to keep my Unlimited data when I didnt have a spare phone available.
Whether or not that is something you are "supposed" to do, I can't speak for that.
SIDE NOTE: On the DNA, make sure to Factory wipe AND wipe under the Storage section... I've bought soo many DNA's with peoples pictures and such on them b/c a factory wipe doesn't delete it all.
Hey guys just wanted to bump this. Thanks for the responses. So how do I go about clearing my dad's esn? And will the sim card swap work or not?

Just wanted to bump this up one more time. So to clarify, I don't have to worry about clearing my esn, the buyer won't be on my bill, and I can just switch sim cards to activate the gs4?
All lte devices with ,4g don't require the old method of calling in the esn change.
IF it's lte phone just swap the lte SIM and it picks up and registers as your device

what they said. there is no clearing of an esn with 4g phones. just take the sim card out. bam. dunzo.

Onboard storage is faster, many things have to be stored on the internal storage so it can still run out even with an sd card.

If you can get 400 for the DNA you would be at the top of the market. More likely to get around 350, though you might want to do it soon - VZW is giving away the DNA for free at the moment, and that always pushes resale into the $hitter.

Let's not get into actually trying to buy or sell on here (rules and all), if you want a DNA, there are some good deals over at swappa.com, let's use that instead.
This thread was ok for advice on wiping and stuff, but I think we've covered that, so I am going to close this up.
Thanks
Does anyone knows if the Mega can be made to work on Straight Talk?
I'd venture to say Yes.
As long as you are sim unlocked.
I'm using net 10 which is very similar. Just buy the prepaid cards from WalMart (no contract) and it does 4G just fine.

I think with Straight Talk you have to order the sim from their web-site
Then you buy the mins from Walmart
Walmart sells the Net 10 sim right on the rack
Called bring your own phone kit
Comes with a full size and a micro sim plus first month of service
I think I paid $65.00 for the kit
I activated it on a full size sim from another phone I was using at the time.
On the Mega, I had to cut the sim down with a razor blade.

Thats cool if you get 2 sims...im wondering if I can put the micro in my mega AND it's full sized twin in my tab//phone , Samsung GT-P6800 and have them both work? Ie: same phone number ...data plan? ?... that would be a trick. .

No I think the reason they give you two cards is they try cover all the bases not knowing what device you have.
Only one card can be activated though.
One or the other.
You can buy two kits but it would twice the money and two different phone numbers.

Very true as when i got my mega from my carrier they gave me a new sim card which was part of the deal..basically a activation fee and my old sim from them was still good with the same number they put to my new sim card, and they told me that my old one will be no good to use even though both sim cards had the same number on it, but i tried my old one anyways and it was no good like they said..it said insert sim card, so no two sims cards can have the same number..would be cool but not happening. :silly:

Yes correct
GSM technology is very secure
I once bought a sim card replicator that promised to duplicate/clone any GSM sim card.
I wanted to do this so I would not have to keep taking battery/cover/sim card from one device and put in another then back again all the time.
I was never going to fire up both devices at the same time
(As that would cause a ripple in the fabric of deep space and a tear in the time/space continuum).
Anyway allz it did was destroy my original sim and I had to pay AT&T $20.00 for a new sim card.

Yes Sir
Definately a learning experience
A Radio Shack sales rep wanted to bet me $100.00 that it would NOT work.
If I were a betting man I'd been out another $100.00.
On top of the $ 30.00 I paid l for the cloner
And the $ 20.00 I paid for a new sim card.
Sometimes learning can be expensive
I offer if here for free.
I still think it can be done though.
Just not with that device
Anything man invents can be exploited
I just didn't have the resources to seek out someone who had the capabilities, equipment and knowledge to do it.
Plus no funds to keep buying new sims.
Ever since wifi tether came along there's no need anymore.

Ok. I'm now on a CDMA Network. I just bought a Mega AT&T from Swappa. how do I know if it is sim unlocked?
Did the update a couple of days ago and now the SIM card will not read. Took it to Verizon and asked if the update had anything to do with this issue and they looked at me with a blank face...so now I pose the question...
Does anyone else have SIM card issues? I have a warranty replacement on the way but thought I would ask to see if there is a real issue or just a random SIM slot failure.
