[Q]Where are my Cwm backups saving? 'emulated' vs '0' vs 'legacy' - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I own a gti9300 with paranoid android 3.15 stock kernel 4.2.2. I did some nandroid backups using cwm (latest) and through file manager I cannot find them?
They do show up in recovery when I choose the option to restore. But where are they in the file manager.
Also I understand the 2 different folders of emulated(legacy and 0) versus sdcard is due to the multiuser feature in 4.2. By default where does everything save? Like whenever I need to delete something, where do I delete it from? All the locations?
Thank you!

they are in /sdcard/clockworkmod
but you can't get to a higher level than /sdcard/0/ from CM10.1, so you can't access them from the ROM

With a root explorer go to: /data/media
This is where you will find all your internal sd files that were there before you flashed CyanogenMod 10.1, also in the folder Clockworkmod you will find your Nandroid backup(s). Because of this Multiuser feauture of Android 4.2.2 this weird partitioning happens. If you would flash a 4.1.2 based ROM then you will have your old internal sd partition back.

So the default place where everything gets saved I cannot access because it's not available in cm10.1?
Is it the same way in aokp roms?
One more question please, if I downgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.1.2 omega rom (stock Samsung variation), will it brick my phone since I am downgrading?

EVerything that you will save when you are using CyanogenMod (Or any 4.2.2 based ROM) will be saved in /storage/sdcard0 or /storage/emulated/0/ which is your internal SD Card when using CyanogenMod 10.1
Your external sd card is like before /storage/sdcard1
When you are using CWM Recovery it uses the old partitioning which means all your Nandroid Backups will be saved in /data/media
And you will NOT brick your phone if you revert to a older version of Android. Just make sure to save all data that you have saved so far on Cyanogenmod because I don`t know if it will be saved or not, since when you decide to go back to Android 4.1.2 then you will have your old partitioning back which means your internal sd card will be not in /data/media anymore but in : /storage/sdcard0

Thank you sir. I owe you my gratitude

Is this for when you download or install something it saves the data to your internal memory instead of the external SD card.

I think it is the opposite. It saves apps to external SD card instead of internal.
hmm dont know if this worked, downloaded plants vs zombies but it went straight to my internal sd card??
edit: not working...still goes to internal sd-card.

1. yes you can, it's an universal CM9 script and don't worry about version or your CM9
2. no, it's will not formating your external SDCard! it's only swapping your internal with SDCard
3. automatically.
4. it's will be inverted on explorer... so, your Internal Storage will be read on 16 GB and SDCard will be read on 4 GB
5. no, it moved to /sdcard!

Since we are moving vold.fstab to system/etc can't we just follow these steps below?
1.Make backup of original vold.fstab. Using root explorer or es file explorer make a copy of the vold.fstab in some other place and rename it to something else.
2.copy the modded vold.fstab (modded by itachilinux) to system/etc and set right permissions.
3.reboot phone
will try, on fxp216.
:fingers crossed:
Is this script working?

[Q] Is there a way to get more system memory? [GT-I9100]

This may be the most stupid question ever but I have a Galaxy SII running Samsung 4.1.2 ROM rooted and deodexed, but the /system folder only has a limited amount of space even though I have 16GB internal memory, is there a way to sacrifice some usable memory to get more /system memory so I can add some stuff to /sysem/app etc?
Thanks
So you want to increase the actual sdcard-size?
I don't think that's possible. You could install some sd-tools that free up unused space and thereby give you more space to use.
Or you could just delete files and apps you don't need.
But as far as I'm concerned increacing actual sd-size is not possible.
I don't own a S3, but I guess it doesn't have a external_sd-slot?

No, I mean if I go to root explorer and then /sysem/app, it only shows like 8MB available even though my SD card is 16GB, is there a way I can increase system memory so I can force install sysem apps and custom frameworks without having to worry about that limit?
The system partition is separate to your internal sdcard, if you go to storage in system settings you can see an internal storage of about 2gb, your 16 gb internal sdcard and also any micro sd you might have installed. Apps installed to phone reside in the 2gb storage unless they are moved to the sdcard (16gb).
I have about 200mb free in my system partition but it varies based on the Rom you are using and any system apps that are installed.

That's why you don't have much system partition space left, most of those apps would be installed there. But like I said your system partition is different to where your user apps are installed. Change to a lighter Rom if you want to push more apps to your system/apps folder.

If you are able to boot into a separate partition, such as with custom recovery, you can repartition and get the system:internal:external ratio you need. Of course, this would require knowledge of your partition layout, the ability to use 'parted', and some knowledge of how to format a drive via the command line.

I was looking for this for a while, and finally found the solution on Youtube video posted by Saurabh.
He re-Partitioned the USB drive and gave more capacity 4,6 or 8GB to Device memory and it worked like magic as shown in the Image attached.

how can I backup my Link2SD partition?

I am using Link2SD, i LOVE IT!!!! However, when I make a backup of my ROM, my recovery doesn't see the 2nd partition, I'm using 4ext from Recovery, or Obackup for making a live backup. Anyone have any experience in this area? Yeah I'm not talking about installing apps I was using on a new ROM, I'm talking about being able to create a backup that INCLUDES the partition being used by Link2SD. As it is right now 4ext recovery is not seeing that partition and I'm not sure why. Neither is OBackup.

because I need more space on my phone's internal storage.
http://www.link2sd.info/
it is not the same as using the Android "move to SD" that is built in. what it does is after you create a second partition on your SD card, it makes your phone think it's part of it's internal storage, thus allowing you to install an ungodly amount of apps It uses sim-linking, if I'm correct. Check out the site it will give you more info. I love it. I made the second partition with GPARTED on a linux box. I may try doing it from recovery but I will have to wipe my entire sdcard for that and I didn't want to have to do that. I can test it with another sdcard and see if the new partition created is able to be used by link2sd then also backed up by the recovery. I'll have to check that out.

Yes, I understand..
I have not used sd2link since the Htc Desire(which was very low memory) and Desire HD2 (windows/android)...
I find now, that most app's/apk's now use the sdcard
and a app like app2sd keeps you informed
Ext3 or Ext4 must be used for Ext.
More common way of increasing memory is to swap internal with a ext4 on a fast sd card.:victory:
None of this, probably, is no help to you...
If you are rooted, you could use Titanium
Hope some of this helps .... Good luck

Having a bit of a storage problem here. Phone is stating that I'm 75% full but I have barely any apps (100 apps including system apps) and nothing stored in internal sd. I've. Been flip flopping between aosp, cm and stock roms. Does cm or aosp roms store data on internal storage separately.?

That's exactly what I meant.
My nandroid done like two days ago, with nothing except apps and like whatsapp media, was ~6GB...
They are of course stored in the clockworkmod folder, he just should delete some of them (namely the older ones).
Or hey, just store the backups on the sd card, he has a 128GB one, I say there's lots of space there...

They simply should be in the clockworkmod folder, and nowhere else. Unless you made your backup with philz or TWRP, and you specifically changed the destination of the backup on internal SD...

Why don't you download "file manager( explorer )" from rhythm software on play store.....it have a function to search media storage and see what specific folder that have consume the most of your storage....it will search internal and external....its faster this way....the most will list first...why don't give it a try....
