I have bought a micro usb to normal usb hub.
I know that the hd2 doesn't provide power to the usb device, and that it needs extenal power, however, I bought a hard drive that has external power.
But when I connect the hard drive to my phone in Ubuntu, it just doesn't see it.
Thank you, Roosen5
Anyone knows the answer?
Sounds like a driver issue in Ubuntu... Not much you can do without writing one yourself or waiting until someone who can finds they need one and publish it.

but there are plenty of people allready using ubuntu with mouse and keyboard right now on the hd2.
I'm not able to figure out why USB connection to the Nook is so slow. It's around 110k/sec and to move lets say 200megs (nearly 12 hours).
I also have a Nook Colok and it works full speed without any trouble, it's very fast (using Cyanmod 7 with it).
But ever since I got this Nook Tablet it's been super slow to copy anything including books, pdf's etc. It's rooted.
If I use Wifi Explorer I can copy everyhthing in a matter of minutes but with the USB is so slow. I tried several different cables but they have alll given the same slowness.
I used the drivers found with the batch file on here, but remember, i had a nook color also and could the drivers colided into each other? The nook color is still very fast.. ADB works on both .
Any ideas?
In Android Development?
Seriously?
C'mon.

Oh, that was a mistake, i meant to put it into general. sorry..
Can an OP move this to general please..
Briefly ...
It may be using the Windows MTP protocol, rather than treating the storage as a drive. IF so:
The good news is that it's slow.
The bad news is that it's buggy (changes on the device are not reflected on the Windows box until you reboot Windows). Also, file date/times are not preserved.
Use ADB push/pull; that seems to work, be speedy, and preserve file date/times.
Hmm you could try using a different port on the pc as if its an older one some of them may still be usb 1.1 instead of 2 which would account for the slow speeds so I would check that first before doing anything else.

It's not a PC issue, im using Windows 7 64 on a i7 950 with 12gigs but the Nook color is fine, so im not sure, i think there might be either a driver issue or the tablet has a transfer issue, but i really doubt it..
I've tried too many glitch kernel builds and too many ics builds to count - all to no avail. I have confirmed that my otg cable works just fine on my friends gsII. However, I still can't get anything up and running on my phone. Yes I am using a Y splitter cable. Yes it is hooked up correctly. My phone is a mesmerize (technically same specs as fascinate, just diff. provider). Please someone, I need help.
I too have been trying to get the usbhost mode to work. I have everything set up right from the guide. When i use the usb host controller app it shows its connected and ready for a usb device but it can never find one. I think were missing something or I am doing it wrong.
I did a search and found that no one has posted this problem on this forum - I'm the only one ??
My prime use to hooked up with my PC with no problems. At some point recently (I'm thinking the recent ICS update) my PC & Prime had a parting of ways. Now I plug in the Prime and get 'USB device not recognized'.
Downloaded and ran Asus Sync hoping that a driver vanished but no luck.
I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit). Has anyone else noticed the same problem and if so - how did you fix it ?
Thanks
I have three computers, and none of them even recognize my prime anymore, not even in Device Manager. This started after I got it back from RMA.
I, myself, am not particularly concerned about it, since I'm just waiting for the Infinity to come out; the Prime I will just pass on to a family member. If the Infinity was going to be released in the far flung future, I'd send it back.

Did you try this for the Prime ? I did not see the Prime on the supported list.
Thanks
I Have the problem as well...thought it was the cable but half happy to see it probably isnt
hey everyone, and I'm so happy to see this thread, but have you guys had similar issues to Mines?
Hello Everyone, I'll try to short and to the point. I've been searching xda/google/androidcentral on and off since maybe early Februrary and still nothing, maybe someone has some awesome insight.
So my computer won't detect my TP anymore for file transfer. It did maybe the first month or so though.
Here's what I've tried so far, with no luck.
- Different Computers - Different Cables - New Asus Brand OEM USB Cable - Aftermarket USB Cable - Different USB Ports (Front and Back of Computer) - USB Debugging Mode - Uninstalled Drivers on my PC to try and get table to re-install it. - Factory Reset (multiple times with and without auto-backup) - Connecting From KeyboardDock to Computer
I convinced my cousin to buy a TP and Dock the other week so I also got to try some extra stuff.
- I plugged His TP with His USB cable to His PC and it connected fine.
- I plugged His TP with His USB cable to MY PC and it connected fine.
- I plugged MY TP with His USB cable to His PC and it wouldn't detect.
- I plugged MY TP with His USB cable to MY PC and it wouldn't detect.
I also tried his TP with my USB cables (both oem and aftermarket) on my PC and it connected fine.
Here's Some additional Info, that may be helpful.
I was previously able to connect to my HDMI ports on my TV via micro HDMI, but that does not work anymore either.
I've seen a few people mention serial numbers, so here's some Info, not sure if it's the correct info.
My TP - TF201-B1-CG - S/N starts with a "B" His TP - TF201-B1-GR - S/N starts with a "C"
I thank you all for your time and any insight is much appreciated.
Called ASUS support - I'm the first that they have ever heard that problem. They suggested a factory reset but first I must back the data up. Never done a factory reset, I hope Voodoo will keep the root.
When I finally try it - I'll let you know what happens.
Cool thanks NewbieKeepItSimple, I hope we get this sorted ou!
Hey everyone, I have some more interesting info regarding the USB issue. I didn't want to suspect this as a problem, but yea it looks like it may be an actual bad port on the TFP itself.
My reasoning is that I got my free GPS dongle in the mail today and it won't work. Anyone else test this yet?
Another Question, as far as RMAs go, do we HAVE to call in? Anyone know for sure? I know there's forums, but trying to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

But you guys are charging fine? Just not connecting to the PC's? Have you had a good look at the connectors both on the cable and the Prime, nothing obvious? You all have uninstalled and re-installed the drivers right? Or maybe tried the universal naked driver utility?

Yep, charges fine. I couldn't see anything obviously wrong with cables and connectors.
As far as trying universal naked driver, I'm pretty sure drivers aren't the issue since I tried a whole different TFP with the same computers and cables (stated above) and it connected and installed the drivers correctly.

My Prime was sync'd at work with my contacts and I put movies on from my home PC. Now neither PC can communicate with the Prime.
There is somethings with the Prime and USB ports that seem a little goofy. I have a USB memory on my keychain that I use for my work files. One of the things I wanted to do with the Prime is access and work on my files during business trips. The work USB memory is 4GB Fat 32 but the Prime can't see it even though all other computers can see it. Plug in an older 2GB memory - the Prime can see it. Plug in my Apple iPhone - the Prime can see it. Plug in some other USB memories no problem but my work USB is invisible.
I really can't see any reason for the Prime to suddenly become invisible to computers but I will try the factory reset once I get my memory 64GB SDcard next week.

that's so frustrating. factors reset didn't work for me but I'm wishing luck to you.
Ok.. something to try before going directly to wiping your Prime...
First, try plugging it into a different USB port. This will cause the PC to try and load a new driver.
If that fails, click Start, right click on Computer and select Manage. Look for an entry called "Portable Devices" and under that "Transformer Prime TF201".
If you don't have that at all, then the system has failed to identify the device entirely.. try it with another PC (take it to a Best Buy and plug it in.. ). If it fails there, then something has changed in your Prime. If you've flashed the ROM, it's possible that's the problem.
If you DO see the entry, but the PC isn't recognising it - right click on the entry for the Prime and select 'Uninstall'. On the dialogue box that pops up, check "Delete the driver software for this device" and let it do its thing.
Unplug the Prime, then plug it back in. It should download a new driver for the Prime. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
I've never heard of an Android device's ADB USB port failing - it's entirely possible of course - but we have five here.. which is pretty amazing.

I'm not holding out much hope either but who knows. The ASUS is rooted but I haven't flashed anything. Another tack I tried is using the just the tablet then keyboard connection but both give the same results.
If I'm connecting to two different spots that on the Prime (dock/Tablet) and there are two different interfacing chip sets involved. Maybe it is a software bug that is screwing up how the Prime addresses the USB (protocol).

hmm even if it was 2 different chip sets it'd still have to go through the main one. it'd be great if it was software based issue
don't mean to self bump but wanna see if there's more like us.
Mine was doing the same thing, now im stuck in the clockwork mod bootloop and cant communicate with my device to unbrick it.

Hi,
for some reason when I try to connect my S3 to my PC, it doesn't detect it, it doesn't even charge
I have installed Kies and the latest drivers. It works on my laptop though
Only thing I can think of is my PC uses Win 7 64bit and my Laptop using Win 7 32 bit.
Does anyone else have this problem and knows how to fix it?
Thanks
Win 7 64 bit is not your problem .
Standard errors are USB port not a mainboard port , not using Samsung Cable .

Yes- Samsung cables have recogniton chip inside them and if your cable isn't an original one in 80% of cases it isn't working
Had same issue using the plug inserted to electricity with a non-Smasung cable - in this case no charging for the phone
Had same issue using a non-Samsung car charger- so had to buy an original one
Slicks.. /sigh
I'm using a samsung cable and using the motherboard usb ports, my old SGS1 works, its just the SGS3 doesn't work.
Samsung cables dont have chips in them,
They are standard micro usb just like HTC, Blackberry etc

Ensure Windows media player is setup correctly and ensure all usb drivers for you motherboard is installed. Also try the motherboard ports on the back to rule out low voltage on front facing ports

Might be a real stupid question, but does the PC actually recognize the phone?
I yes, maybe an outdated version of the drivers..
Download the drivers, from my Win8 help thread, below and try again
Good luck!
