Hi there,
I currently have the Samsung Galaxy SIII I9300 running Cyanogen Mod. At the moment my camera is very temperamental and the quality is not amazing. I have seen some things about HX-Mod but i'm still not entirely sure that I could get that to work. Do you have any suggestions of a ROM or Mod that will make the camera on my S3 better?
Thanks!

Ok thanks, I know this may sound daft but are there any custom samsung based roms? If so, are there any you would particularly recommend? Also do you think I may be better of with a non samsung based rom if they have better features or are faster?
Thanks!
If the camera quality is important to you, you would be best on a Samsung based rom.
I can't recommend one but there are a number to choose from in the development section.
It all depends on your priorities, only you can decide what is best for you

And also i have heard that they did some software modification to extend the battery life.
"As expected, Google announced the newest version of its Android mobile operating system on Wednesday and it looks like a big focus of the latest upgrade is improving smartphones’ and tablets’ battery life. Android 4.3 JellyBean, which Google announced during its “breakfast” press conference Wednesday morning, is shipping on the company’s newest Nexus 7 tablet. The new OS is adding support for low-power Bluetooth devices such as healthy sensors that can display data on your smartphone or tablet."

Yes but it's more difficult to port on Sense base, but people who ported to samsung, ecc. used CM as base so it's possible

My build server is not letting me build cm10.1 on it
So I repo synced cm10.2 sources and it is compiling right now !!
Now lets pray that it doesn't stop in between

Our CM10.1 has WiFi, Bluetooth and Audio/Video recording not working. Bluetooth is fixed by prototype-u but not released yet.
Also I planned to port some awesome roms but when CM10.1 is almost bugfree and ready for daily usage.

Nice. Looks like DX is going to get some nice roms.
I also would like to update you on CyanogenMod Nemesis Teaser.
And the phase 1 of that project, the new CM camera app called Focal.

I've seen that, it looks very good, a decent improvement over AOSP and dare I say better than Samsung and HTC's offerings I can imagine CyanogenMod really catering for the HTC One with that app

That is a new project koush is working on, its still under heavy development but its a new messaging thing, it basically overrides I message which apple uses.
You'll find more about it in the cysnogemod Google plus page, koush expalins it all.

Can someone recommend a great camera app for this phone? AOSP camera sucks, Google camera is decent but still not comparable to LG's one. Any suggestions?
My go to when running AOSP based ROMs is Snap Camera. Tons of features and options. Great camera app.
take a look at this one.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.pro
tons of features and takes great pics
Thank you gentlemen.
Is it at all possible to make LG's camera work with an AOSP rom? It just seems to work so much better.

Been a while since I've been to that thread but makes sense it's only for stock with the features it includes.
Really wish we could get the stock LG camera app for some roms, because to be honest that camera app is pretty awesome...

Yep. The only thing keeping me from jumping to AOSP roms. Can't deal with the poor camera on AOSP.
Found this in the Illusion G+ community. I flashed it on Cloudy v1.2 to see if it would also work on 4.4 KitKat Roms. It does. Haven't tested on Lollipop. As always a nandroid is recommended. I didn't clear cache or dalvik and no issues. Nor did I examine contents of this zip...I live dangerously lol. Simply sharing hoping to help out. I take no credit for this and will try to credit the source when I find it.
I'm not sure what version is posted already here, but here is a link to the motorola camera 5.0.7.1 version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-motorola-camera-5-0-7-1-material-t3007246
It was a 4.x.x.x version.
Snap camera def best. A bargain for 2 bucks!!!

I use Motorola camera 5.0.7.1 works the best I found. Just flash the zip and uninstalled the stock camera.

I expected at least Pixel Experience or any other AOSP based ROMs for our device but since it looks like both oreo/pie development is in grave. Anyone planning anything or it just stays like dead?

Custom ROM development for the Redmi 5 plus was essentially dead the moment Redmi note 5 released, I suggest selling it and buying either the Redmi note 5, Poco F1 or anything else
Follow the instructions in the video. Working LOS16 (although barebones so similar to AOSP), fully working GCam and smooth. There's the error message on boot and the USB bug - both not big deals. Really nice ROM.
