HORRIBLE USB Data transfer rate... help! - Nokia Lumia 920

Hi.. i just got the 920 a few days ago and I love almost all of it... except for the DAta Transfer speeds...
Seriously it must take around a half hour to copy a few songs to the phone.
The speeds are way below USB 2.0 and i really don't know how to fix it !
Right now I'm trying to DELETE 11GB of music from the computer through WMP... and it's been over 30 minutes. Through explorer its the same deal.
I have a Lumia 920, Windows 8 x64, and a fast VAIO Ultrabook...
Could it be drivers?
Help please! Thanks =)

i have PC with Widows 8 x64 and USB3.0 and (old) HP laptop with Windows 8 x86 and USB2.0 ports... transfer on both is good and fast...
for updating drivers use Driver Genius

It's so strange.. everything else about the phone Works perfectly. As far as i know.. i just plugged it in and it was awfully slow

I've updated the drivers with Driver Genius, it basically updated the chipset and all the Intel stuff but the pone data transfer is still sluggish... Ideas ?

Is the port on the PC a 2.0 port?

I've tried it on both.. Maybe Windows has a better faster way of,transferring files to Windows phones??

i have also USB2.0 port on HP 6730b laptop and transfer rate is good and fast...

I have Win 7 64bit and I just drop files to the phone like another hard drive and they transfer at the same speed any other USB device does.

Don't use WMP to sync. When I use WMP to transfer or manage files, its terribly slow and I'm not sure why either. Use the desktop syncing application or just drag and drop your files, and you'll find that those transfers are much faster.
I think WMP does something extra during the transfer process, which causes it to be slower to sync as a whole.

[Q] windows 7 on hd2, not the mobile version.

So I have seen videos on YouTube that have the hd2 running Ubuntu. Is there a way to run windows 7 (not windows mobile 7) or XP and use a USB hub to plug in a keyboard and mouse? This would be insanely awesome! Now YouTube also has two videos running windows 7 but I have a feeling they are either themes or remote desktop.
Win7...WTF...
OK, i don't know the videos, but i'm really thinking this is a fake.
I've heard rumours about people get win95 running (VM/emulator?) and this
is hard to belive.
But Windows 7 is not beliveable.
I shocked my friend with XP on my HD2, but truely it was only
the "Remote-Desktop".
And i think you're right, this is what's shown in this videos.
PS: with some tunings you can play sound's
and videos through the RDP-con. (via Wlan) and this looks still
awesome.
You're better off getting Ubuntu to run on the HD2, which is already possible. Windows 7's touch-friendly features are also pretty demanding. It would be a bit overwhelming, even for something with the HD2's specs.

win95 working , tested myself , but w7 .... i don't think so
I had Win95 on mine too......I just don't think the HD2 can handle the standalone PC version on Win7. Too make fake videos on youtube....probably this is one of them
windows 7 32 bit would melt the battery the demand for power would mean you could not have it unplugged at all im also sure you would need a big memory card cuase windows 7 needs at least 2gb ram to run and probably a good 5 gb of hard drive space wich would probably mean mutiple partinions on the sd card and thats just to start
I mostly agree but how is it that my netbook with 1gb of ram runs win7 just fine. (I did installed full 32bit)
Space I don't think is an issue, what about the XP phone? There are other phones and mini tablets that run windows and do fine. Maybe a modded version with certain resolution and bigger start button ect. Granted you can't run Photoshop but maybe open office or basic tasks.

Well honestly u cant compare netbook and HD2. Why? Because the CPUs got different architectures and that mean 1GHz in netbook isnt the same as 1GHz in HD2. Other thing is memory u got 1GB and HD2 512MB, well I guess for win 7 start, it would be enough, but still u have to boot the system and that is gona take a lot time. Not worth it, better remote access.
But there are already Windows 7 with tuch support on laptops because some laptops support touch screen on theirs LCD
Windows Vista/7 does not support the ARM processors used in mobile phones as they are not x86 devices. A netbook does use a x86 variant as a cpu and therefore can run any flavor of windows up to and including Windows 7
Well, win95 and 98 works fine on my touch pro and this is not a fake, but not really usefull and takes long time to boot, do not expect playing original price of persia on your phone. I have tried a great heroes of might and magic boot img file that has a minimalised version of win95 with touchscreen drivers, that do not have any UI and just loads the game. I wonder if anyone could possibly take a look at that file and say what files should be extracter in order to add touchscreen support to normal windows images? XP would be nice, but don't forget that emulator always runs MUCH slower than original system, so...
When the OP says they have seen "W7" on the hd2...... I think they are confusing "Windows 7" with "Windows compact embedded 7".........
its not a fake and its not remote desktop..
cotulla posted a video of this a while ago...........

[Q] Fastest file transfer for Galaxy Tab 10.1

Hi all,
What is the fastest way to transfer files to the Galaxy 10.1? I need to put approximately 2 GB in folders directly on the /sdcard/
I've tried Windows Explorer in Windows 7 and this looks like it's taking forever, and gives me no time estimate. Using Eclipse through Mac OS X seems more reasonable but I was wondering if there is a faster way through Windows 7, or if there's a faster way that I'm missing.

I just connected mine to windows 7 via the included USB cable and transferred a 1GB MKV over in 5 mins.
This is the oddest thing . . . I'm trying to transfer 2 GBs and it looks like it will take a day or more. I let it sit for at least 40 minutes, with very little movement on the progress bar and very slow file copy. Again, Windows 7 with the supplied cable.
Maybe driver issues? Had that problem with my sgs2, had to reinstall the drivers

I had to just buy the USB adaptor and transfer files onto a USB stick and then plug into the adaptor. Various files once transferred onto the USB stick making up 12gb takes about 10mins this way.
easy to transfer files back onto the USB stick once watched...i've just got 16gb FAT32 wouldn't be without it.

It's 20mbyte per sec... what brand USB stick do you have?
Cause any of mine can give me no more then 7/8mbyte per sec.
USB adaptor either usb or sd is far the fastest way imo. Win7 take far to long and wi-fi is a joke.

The usb adapter is surprisingly quick when transferring files. Plus it lets you plug in a wired keyboard if you feel so inclined. Wired mouse as well.

Galaxy S5 Transfer Speed with USB 3.0 ( No difference ?)

I have both the original USB 3.0 Samsung cable + USB 3.0 Ports on my PC ( Asrock Z87 Extreme4 Motherboard).
USB 3.0 enabled in BIOS and everything. My computer detects it as 3.0 cable .
But whenever I select USB 3.0 mode on the phone and transfer large files,
I noticed there is barely or no difference in transfer speed at all, as compared to MTP (regular) mode ?
Is anyone in the same situation .
I heard this 3.0 feature is actually just for charging speed not transfer speed on the S5.
Can somebody clarify ?
Thanks!

I transferred a 9.8 gb file last night in under 5 minutes. I don't know exactly how long it took but I know after my 4:27 YouTube video it was finished. I have personally seen much faster speeds. Are you missing drivers for your mobo?
As for charging, I get the same voltage irregardless old which USB port I use. Only USB port I know that would make a difference is one of those new high voltage always on ports I hear about.

Whoaaa, the speeds are at minimum double than regular mtp. But where the 3.0 really shines is transferring a bunch of small files as opposed to a few large files.

Really ? Wow lmao .
Well my PC already detects it as a 3.0 usb device ...
So I'm really not sure if it's a problem with my PC drivers or anything .
And yeah I figured the charging isn't much if a big deal .
I'm gon try to troubleshoot this somehow later .

WELL...Apparently USb 3.0 is not supported by MTP w/e AT ALL :
"From what I see it's a technical issue with the Android OS. Certain android applications are restricted from being moved from the internal memory to your internally mounted external SD card. That's part of android's protection: your "external" SD card is no longer considered as an USB mass storage device. The reasoning popped out at me when I began to think about my HP Touchpad running CM10 (ICS). When I mount it to my Linux Desktop, it's still recognized as USB Mass storage device.
Using MTP protects permissions, users, groups, and other file management parameters. Unfortunately, libmtp has not yet been updated to support USB 3.0 speeds. We can only hope it will be as USB 3.0 is becoming more and more prevalent.
The only way I see one can benefit from USB 3.0 transfer speeds to and from android devices (Kit-Kat and beyond) now is to use an OTG 3.0 thumb drive, until that glorious day when USB 3.0 is supported by libmtp."

Thank you for acting selflessly and answering the question for other who've come here seeking an answer

Will USB 2.0 works?

On their home page it said "Old dog, new trick. Revitalize your seasoned hardware", so I'm thinking of running it (from USB drive) on my old PC, but then the minimum requirement of USB 3.0 drive struck me, old PC's doesn't have USB 3.0 ports. Will it work at all or refuse to run? If it does work will it run acceptably good? I can run Xubuntu and Linux Mint from livecd without problem on it with USB 2.0 drive, I think it should work the same isn't it? Anyone tried it?
PS: Yes I know I should just have tried, but it's not a small download for me, and asking first reduces the chance of it's not working to compatibility issue only instead of USB issue.
Hard drive will work fine in USB2
That's the way I initially used RemixOS
My first try of Remix OS (Alpha) was on a USB 2.0 but don't expect it to be fast. Booting, web browsers and the Spotify app mostly struggled and made the OS crash/reboot
Yes, it will work.

God morning from the Philippines! This is about file transferring. when it comes to transferring files on and to a hard drive and otg usb it takes too long than normal or than my other devices (samsung c9 pro an old model and huawei nova 3i). I needed to know or wanted to know if those who have updated their poco has resolved this issue and if not. If there will be an update to upgrade the transfer speed. Mine is not rooted. Not updated. All stocks from the box. Thank you!

I am on 9.3.7 and the file transfer speed to/from pc,otg is still slow

I noticed it too. While using a portable HDD(2 TB) for transferring files, transfer speeds were very low 200-500 kBps but when I used a simple pen drive (32 GB) I was getting standard USB 2.0 speeds around 5 to 9 mBps. A point to know that the HDD I used DIDN'T have any external power and used the power from the usb port for driving itself. Maybe our phone isn't sending enough power through the USB port that's necessary for driving a portable HDD. I don't have any HDD that needs external power to work, so I can't test it. If I can get my hands on one, I'll post the results here.
