Just rooted the s3 now trying to install cwm with rom manager. it installs but when i reboot the phone the android 3e recovery comes back i gather that the stock rom is just re flashing 3e recovery on boot so if i use rom manager to flash cwm then reboot to recovery and use the cwm recovery to flash a custom rom ie cyanogenmod will that stop the stock recovery from being flashed?
Use philz touch recovery mate loads better... and it will give you the option to stop stock recovery re-flashing

I've installed CWM. However, whenever I to boot into recovery it'll take me the "Android system recovery <3e>" with no option to install from SD, therefore I can't install any ROM. What can I do? Please help.
If you have CWM installed, when you go to the stock recovery, click on reinstall packages. It will reboot into stock recovery again and again click reinstall packages, and it should take you to the green CWM recovery.

He has 3e recovery and that won't work.
Op: Odin a voodoo kernel, as it's the easiest way and has cwm built in. The other two methods include ironing to jfd and flashing custom rom (easiest if custom is your end goal) or replacing 3e recovery with a modified one (hardest method by far).

hi guys, ive recently been given a s2 and i want to know how to root it and install clockwork mod without a pc. i have looked through the tutoriols and it seems simple to root but then when wanting to flash a recovery it seems confusing as there are kernels and what not. i have searched but things seem to complicated compared to the one x. sorry if this is really stupid but could someone tell me how to root my s2 and install cwm and install a custom kernel in simple english please. thanks in advance.
also one cwm is installed can i install roms through there or is odin(this is also confusing) required?
oh and finally, once a ota arrives how do i unroot and revert back to stock recovery. sorry for the noob questions guys, thanks in adcance

Simple mate. Download this http://db.tt/MxD7F6xg and install through stock recovery (volume up+home+power).
This is a temp CWM recovery so you can flash this kernel: http://www.dorimanx.com/Android-ICS/ by selecting Install zip from internal or external sdcard. BTW, it's touch recovery.
Then you're all done:thumbup:
Yes you can flash custom roms through CWM recovery built in the kernel.
Yes also to revert back to stock rom/kernel for ota. For this, you can use mobile Odin pro. Works great.
EDIT: OH and the kernels are pre-rooted

You should not be mucking about with your phone until you have a pc handy(with odin installed properly).
I hardly ever use a pc,but you can get situations when you flash something and the phone dont boot properly, plus no access to recovery.
The only option is then using a pc/odin.

Hy.
I was on NeatROM latest. Everything is OK. I entered the CWM, and reflash the NeatROM without full wipe. After, my phone boot up. I wanted to flash Boeffla kernel, so I rebooted my phone in recovery mode...
And there is a trouble: After restart, my phone is try to enter the CWM. The CWM shows the version on bottom, and restert the phone. This effect is always, my phone restart and restart...
I tried to flash the PhilZ recovery via ODIN. Nothing. Flashed the Boeffla kernel via ODIN. Nothing...
How can I solve this problem?
Have you tried to reflash cwm recovery via odin?

In short, yes you can flash it in cwm. Try the TWRP app from the app store first.

Flash TWRP zip directly from CWM. It works.
