Has anyone in this forum been able to successfully theme or port aosp settings on a sense rom? I know its been done numerous times on ICS but do you guys know of any for 4.1 or 4+?
Or hell if the ICS version would work on sense 4 with or without a little bit of modding?
Not exactly sure where to start but I'm familiar with VTS and whatnot... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Also I have seen pictures of an inverted sense settings (white text on black) but the dev never posted like he said he was going to, anyone have that.
Let me know if you want it... I'm using it on rebelrom ... Sense 4+, 3.17
Of course I'll credit him for everything, as this was a lucky find on my part

I will make the bold assumtion that you are referring to me...
I did post, but only for ICS. It was an utter mess and I gave up on it for JB.
InflatedTitan PMed me and this is my reply, just in case somebody might want to take it from where I left it (basically goiung through all the sense apps that create dialog windows or find the xml where this is controlled (probably in un compilable com.htc.resources.apk or even worse (but unfortunately very likely with htc...) in various different locations).
Hi InflatedTitan
Well, as far as porting goes, I have not done it on sense 4 and I don't know what it takes.
As for the settings.apk, I successfully themed it to look as AOSPish as it gets. Only, there where so many issues as I had to change the color of the text from black to white, that many dialog windows which had a white background where messed up. I then spent some time to find the respective files, xmls that control these dialogs but actually never found them. In the end I settled for what I have now, AOSP style but based on sense.
The major problem is that we can't properly de- and recompile the com.htc.resources.apk, where most of the necessary changes have to be made. So the basic process was to check the settings.apk for references to that file and then change them to somewehre we can edit, like framework-res.apk. It takes a lot of time and some understanding how Android works to get this done properly. I then also pushed some files to com.htc where I had to. You know, htc's software is very very messy, there is no direct logic to most of it and they have so many redundancies it actually just makes you want to cry out loud No wonder all the sense versions so far where an utter bloat. Ahhh, just imagine another htc nexus...
I made some documentation here, but it's a bit of a mess.
It outlines all the things I changed (to keep track) and whether the changes actually did someting (green) or not.
Unless you have a lot of time on your hands, I would stay away from it. I am a perfectionist and I just felt it was not worth the effort. And that was quite some time ago, when the One X still was still a relatively new device...

I swear that I can remember there being a host of Metamorph themes that will morph SenseUI with dark Rosies and different types of batteries (yes, I know there are lots of circle battery flashes) and things.
I scum through the Hero themes and apps, and can't find much.
I scum thorugh the Eris themes and apps, and SWEAR I can remember more, months ago.
I am I confused? I feel like SOMEONE would have/did make a blue battery/highlight color flash, or a different Android guy when a no-picture-stored contact/caller is on the line, or a graphite/black battery, or clear notification bars.
I see that there are LOT of cyanogenmod themes, and that's super. But although I see an awesome orange xtrSense theme there, I am lost on where all the metamorph themes I remember seeing, went to.
I feel stupid almost, since I've been around computers for years, and spent LOTS of time on forums, and even helping people, and rooting friends' phones, etc etc etc.
I swore I remember seeing a HTC hero theme repository thread with like 100 different little themes and metamorphs. I can't even find that (assuming any of those would work).
Am I crazy? Confused? (feel free to slap sense into me if so)
Where are all the SenseUI metamorph themes? Do I need to try to learn how to make some?
Yessir
I've been wondering this too, I remember before I rooted seeing a picture of an Eris with a black rosie and all the grey turned black. Heck that was half the reason I rooted, but I never have found it lol. guess I got side tracked.
I've been thinking of trying to make some Themes for punk.kaos's froyo sense when it gets stable. I've figured out a little about theming android, (I'm still not that good and have never themed sense, so dont expect much.)
I'd LOVE to have a white and blue sense theme though, that'd be on point.
I have only made two themes for the eris. One I posted on here the other is not done, so I guess that technically 1 1/2 but who's counting, and I can tell you it is more tideous work then actual challenge. The reason for lack of themes is probably just a demand thing. Most people that have the eris have had it for awhile. So they either already have it how they like it or have moved onto another device. I think it would be great for those of us with the eris to help out with theming and developing. With all the hard work the developers put in to the roms the least us as the end user can do is make some themes for others to use and give a variety of option for roms to look. </rant>
I think that may come off harsher then it was meant to when I was typing this. Anyway, if you or anybody else on here needs help making themes, I would be more than happy to help in anyway I can just message me on here I check this place probably 50 times a day. I would love to help some people get on the theming bus and help make some new themes for us to choose from.

I dont think thats harsh at all, its just plain fair.
the handfull of devs here work so hard bringing us roms we never would dream of seeing on our phone, the least we can do -if we are able- is contribute a little time to editing some pictures. it makes all our phones have that many more options. course...lifes not fair
I would love to learn. Where do you suggest I start? I've already taken pieces from several different themes to make what I want. I would like to see a nice sense ui theme. It can be done, shadowrom has a theme that is as close to sense that I've seen yet. They got about everything but HTC Widgets and the real htc launcher. However the themer made an HTC launcher dock background and some blank icons that when using launcher pro is very nice because your icons don't show up on the dock like they normally would. What would it take to incorporate the real launcher into a theme?

Here are some of the metamorphs I think you were talking about. Really the only ones I could find that seem to work. I know there's more out there. Anyone else got anything?
Simple Black Lockscreen arch
Espresso Rosie!
Im tryint to figure out where to find the icons at. I want to change my folder icons blue. Any help would be appreciated
I'm curious as to how likely we are to see devs adhere to the new design guidelines? Is it more trouble than it's worth bringing an app in line with the design principles stated by Google or are we likely to see a fast adoption rate?
To be honest it will only matter to AOSP roms as OEM will cover it up as normal.

You say that, but if you look at the market, that follows all the design principles set out.

Ok so the google apps might but the overall OS depending on the OEM will not change much. HTC, Samsung and the other will still theme the major OS so it will still be the same way it is now.
Didn't Google make a big deal about changing the terms of early access to AOSP builds in return for not having companies change the skin too much. i.e. changing font and colour schemes is OK, changing the location of items like the action bar is not OK at all. There's a lot of pessimism in regards to the damage that people think OEMs will do, but all evidence thus far seems to point to it being the contrary of peoples' fears.

We will see what happens. I have a feeling it will be more like a different apk for each theme mainly due to the fact that the stock framework file is just not gonna cut it for OEM based UIs. Due to the nature of android there is little Google can do to stop how an OEM themes their own UI, I mean HTC has its own framework file as does Samsung this i dont think will change, but we will see. I personally dont care really lol I will rip them apart and change them myself anyway to remove the ugly themes that always seem to pop up from both OEM and AOSP. This is just my thoughts

It is to my understanding that this really has nothing to do with the UI of the OS, but more with the UI of the app itself. One specific explanation that I remember from a google spokesperson is that pressing the menu button inside of an app shouldn't bring any surprises. The key is to make the apps react and look the same.

See that's the thing. It really depends on how they work it in as alot of the base UI is rethemed using the UI framework files. I have spent days going between the stock framework file and the HTC framework file to get a theme that works together the right way and looks complete.
In the end we will have to wait and see how it is done.

Yea true, it will be easier to tell once it happens. I honestly didn't do much research into it, and wasn't sure either way. I have been reading things here and there, and thats what I took from it.
I don't see much changing really.
Basically apps may get updates to change menu structure to match the rest of the main OS.
HTC and Sony I am sure have approval from Google to implement their UI.

I am sure they do I mean every OEM does it. We will see. Only time to will tell. Either way ill still rip it apart and rethemeing it at the base like most Themers do. One halo theme is not gonna look like another after a few months lol

I hear that.
They can't stop us from themeing whatever we want to.
Just curious why it seems like there is no love towards RezRom? Im running 1.6 and there is literally not one single post about any mod what so ever for it. In my opinion Rez is about the smoothest and fast gb rom out there. Ive themed what i can myself but am not a pro at it. I would put up what i have but i dont feel its worthy compared to what other people do for theming on other mods.
Probably since bored has already themed the device and added pretty much every mod possible.
im talking about notification bar icons and things like that. I got the icons no problem, but when i try to do the date, etc., the clock goes back to white, when i change the clock, the date goes back to white. Not hating on it at all, but cleanrom has tons of mods where they have different status bar dropdowns, dialers, etc. But no one seems even remotely interested in Rez. I think it really is one of the best and def. props to bored, he is amazing with his work. Just wished more people showed love towards it.
I feel what you're saying man. People probably don't theme it since I assume altering a theme can be a pain in the butt. Not too sure about that since I know jack S about theming.
I theme quite a bit. Heck I used to theme all day. I have at least 6 full themes for sense 3.0. I know I did a full bravo theme for the rezound for gb, including a separate skin to go with it. I haven't had time to look at the framework for ICS yet so porting will take time.
You have to also keep in mind that I, along with several others came from the Thunderbolt. The framework or png's were completely different sizes on sense 3.0. When we all moved over to the Rezound, we realized we pretty much needed to redo a years worth of theming and upgrade all of our work to sense 3.5 png's.
I spent days trying to update one theme to sense 3.5 only to find out ICS came out a short while later. So, now all my work has to be matched up then ported over again to ICS which hasn't been done yet.
The big thing for some of the big themers here on the Rezound are skins. Simply because we make profit on the market. I barely have another skin to roll out for sense 3.5 gb and that took several weeks to complete. I plan on rolling out at least 5 more before I even begin to start theming for ICS. Unless ICS rolls out to the rezound sooner, I wouldn't count on a lot of themes for it.
I'm on ICS as I'm writing this but about all I'm going to put out for ICS are dialers.
Sent from my poor S-on Rezound
Theming will pick up once a official ota is out bc no one want to theme something and then rebase when we get a leak ... At least that's why I'm not theming right now lol

FYI some stuff like dialers and other system apps will work on pretty much all the ROMS since they are all based on the same ICS leak
anything that changes the framework or systemUI is most likely ROM specific. you can however port images from one rom to another manually....if you have the time
You can go to the UOT Kitchen and easily do some light theming on your own. It's kind of fun!
I was already doing my own light theming like status bar icons. I just flashed to Rez 2.1 and am in the works of teaching myself more advanced theming to hopefully throw some out here on xda.

Why theme a themed ROM??? lol
cause im not happy unless im messing around with something haha.
by the way mike, i finally jumped to ics, rez 2.1. i lost your gtalk name pm me with it if you dont mind.
Hey all,
So, I know I'm probably in the minority of users with this opinion, but I actually do like Sense. I switch over to an AOSP-based ROM from time to time, and may play with a different launcher every now and then, but I always default back to Sense before long.
With that said, I also enjoy customizing the look and feel of my phone, as I'm sure so many of you do as well. However, one thing that always trips me up with Sense is the absence of any custom-themed widgets or skins, a la the 'Warm' theme that was the cats pajamas on my 3D. Is it possible to create custom skins with these themed widgets and rosies for our LTEvo? Be more than willing to donate to the cause if someone has the time for it

Ahhh...the bitter aroma of defeat. Thought I may have heard something along those lines at some point, but wasn't sure. Thanks for confirming for me, though :good:
Greetings
Would anyone know if a sense 3.0 ROM could be ported to work on the 4G LTE, I like themed ROM's and not much theming going on with 4.0's stubborn apk's and no m-10 yet either.
I kinda like 3.0 better anyway, not sure if anyone else share's the same sentiment.
Thanks
I like that it multitasked!

Theoretically.. maybe? I mean, I imagine it would be like porting a new version of Sense, but backwards. There would definitely be bugs in something like that.

Pretty much this. It's possible but there would be a boatload of bugs. That's considering anyone even wants to port it over.
Sense 4 theming will pick up as soon as we get m10 image decompiling. The Virtuous Team folks seem to have solved this (as evidenced by their Sense 4.0 Theme) so hopefully they will update their Studio tool with support so we can all decompile the images. Hang tight
The only "bad" thing with Sense 4 is multitasking other than that its a complete improvement over 3.
Sense 3.0 was so bloated.
It could probably be done, but I don't know any developers who are bothering going backwards.
Consider it like this. It would be equivalent to buying a Windows 7 PC with a free upgrade available to Windows 8 when it's released, then wiping it completely and putting Vista on it. I'm pretty sure it's never been attempted, but very much possible. It'd take a while to do, though.
Stop living in the past, man!
Sense 3.0 was a step in the right direction for HTC to show what type of desktop UI rendering a smartphone could do but the transitions, framerates and objects were poorly rendered. Anything sense 3.5 and above ironed that out so for quality sake I would stick with any Rom with those versions.
I see that one responder told me to stop living in the past lol. It's just a matter of preference, ICS really doesn't do much for me, in fact I prefer 3.0. I know it might be headache to do, but it's more of a heedache (at least at this point) to try to get a bunch of stubborn apk's to cooperate so that a guy can make a theme. The stock looking UI sucks.

Getting sense 3.0 would be just as buggy and a PITA as it is getting aosp/miui on this phone. It's a downgrade, but it's still ripping and hacking software that wasn't intended for the lte
