Gap Gate! - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I've been hearing about it but I just went to my local at&t store and saw it myself.
Does anyone else have this issue? Maybe I should hold off a month until they fix the issue.

LOL zero gap.....

Maybe their definition of zero isn't the same as mine. Who knows?

How is this an "issue"? You probably couldn't stuff a hair into that "gap".

First off dust can go in there. Second it can get bigger because it does flew closed if you pinch it. Just means that it can go the other way too.

It's bigger than u think. Really looks bad compared to one that doesn't have a gap. Look at the area below the headphone jack in the ops pic. That is zero gap, you can barely see the line. It loos like the machining process is a little off on some. The aluminum actually looks jagged on higher res pics, not a straight cut at all.

I'll take your word for it. I may feel the same way if I get one like that but the quality of this phone is so incredible I'm expecting to be too amazed to care about something so normal looking.

Hi, I received my HTC One 32GB (AT&T) this morning via FEDEX, and it has a gap at the top. It IS definitely an issue. I can insert my fingernail into the gap. REGARDLESS, it shouldn't be there. it is ugly, and ruins the sleek, professional look of the phone.

That's the whole problem....incredible quality means no gaps.. With gaps like that there will be dust behind the screen in no time. That is very visible. Gaps are not incredible quality. They will replace them for this which means they also agree that it's not right. One x had some dust issues behind screen and were replaced.

speaking of jagged aluminum, mine has some ugly marks on the mirrored chamfered edge near the headphone jack, looks like the machine that polished the aluminum, or cut it, or however they get the chamfered edge to look so clean and shiny, actually malfunctioned a little bit. I also have a couple obvious pits in the white plastic at a couple different locations around the phone's edge. The headphone jack is rough-edged on mine, and the speaker grille area is not the same height on the top and bottom grille, meaning there's a pronounced "ledge" where the bottom grille sticks out from the glass, and the top one does not, it is nearly perfectly flush.
I am annoyed because the demo unit at my local store is flawless as far as I can see. So it is not like they can't produce a good unit. IF every unit had similar discrepancies, I wouldn't have much to say, but knowing that mine is inferior, and they probably have an inferior assembly line somewhere, or at least some inferior batches, makes me very annoyed. This is not a $99 pay-as-you-go clamshell phone. We paid $650 cash after taxes for this device, and I damn well deserve better than what I got. Sorry if I sound picky or abrasive, that is not my intention. Believe me, I LOVE this phone, and if there is no recourse, I'll just keep it. But I would like to find out how I can return it. I have a feeling HTC is going to refer me to AT&T, and AT&T are going to be jerks about it on the phone. any advice? I know I asked for advice in another thread, but this thread specifically addresses my issue, and I am hoping someone has knowledge of returns with HTC/AT&T. I've only dealt with Apple for mobile phone returns for shoddy build quality; up until now, HTC hasn't shipped me a phone with an issue, neither has samsung.
thanks!

They will replace it. No problem. First try a store. you have 15 days to return if not satisfied. 30 days on premier. Ive replaced a couple of one x's for visual defects without a problem. if the store gives you hassle, Call AT&T and tell, them, they will take care of you.

I don't think this gap will mean dust beneath the screen... It's because HTC decided oddly to put the speaker grills on afterwards and glue ons. So, the unibody is one piece... this glue on is just not very good. Any dust getting in that gap would get in through the speaker holes anyway.

Actually it will. Go to youtube ans search for a drop test, it's the first thing jumped jumped right off the phone.
HTC really is dropping the ball on this one. As something that you are advertising as a feature of a phone, you better be damn sure you actually have a grasp on what your advertising. I don't want to be lured in by a unibody design only to find out I have the Grand Canyon sitting on top of my phone.

Yes, a tiny, hairline gap on the top of the phone is considered "dropping the ball" on build quality. You must have missed the inexpensive, inferior material of your phone, which costed the same (if not more) as a phone made of superior materials.
Not to mention, if the phone can indeed be gutted easier by taking off the speaker grilles (which I believe has yet to be attempted/documented), using an adhesive to attach them to the phone is not necessarily a bad thing. I much prefer adhesive to clips, which can break over time. At least you can just re-glue the speaker grilles if they ever fall off. Just my two cents.

stop crying return the phone for another

Ifixit gave it a score of 1 on reparability. I'm not so much worried about the speaker grills as you said, you can glue them back on. But what about the actual gap it self? Will it get bigger over time? Its HTC's flagship phone. Its supposed to be a premium phone with a premium finish. HTC is advertising something that they can not produce. Don't get me wrong I like the phone. But when it comes to materials, I would prefer Samsung's plastic over the aluminum that HTC is using. Aluminum is way more fragile cosmetically wise as its prone to more dents and scratches than plastic. Its cheaper to replace as well. With all that being said. I'm still buying the HTC one. Just disappointed in HTC.
My two cents.

The title of this thread is ridiculous and good grief its a phone not a tank..
Return or exchange the phone if you are not happy with it..
Problem solved
[/end thread]

I think GAPGATE is a fantastic name and absolutely accurate. It may be a bigger problem than we know.
BTW the demo unit at a store I saw had one side that was a little rough and not smooth like the other side.

Case Mate Pop! Evo 3D Kickstand Case

It's $20 on amazon. The forum won't let me post pictures of it or links.
Does anyone have one, how sturdy is the kickstand, kinda looks a little flimsy to me? Also, can it withstand being dropped, saying on the corner of the phone? I know they make similar cases for other phones, and could only find a couple of youtube videos, but the guy didn't have the phone in the case nor try the kickstand out.
Thanks!
EDIT:
I went out and got it. It does cover the speaker, but it doesn't muffle the sound at all, or make it lower. The case is a pita to take off though, but I'm not planning on taking it off and on. I couldn't find a case that was a hybrid and had a kickstand besides this one. It has a raised edge over the front screen, so you dont have to worry placing it front facing on a surface. The cameras are also sunken into the case, so those will not get scratched from setting it down on it's back. The kickstand works in all three positions. So if you want to charge it while watching a movie you can. The kickstand may feel flimsy, but it locks into place and does the job. It has rubber at the end on it to make sure it stays put.
Overall it's a great shock absorbing case with a kickstand. I had a speck candy shell for my iPhone, and it saved my phone numerous times getting out of cars and trucks with my phone on my lap and forgetting about it and it hits the asphalt, and I'm confident this case will do the same.

This case from CaseMate blocks the speaker on the back
I got this case for free at the place I got my 3D cause they took days to get me a replacement handset. I've used it once and will never use it again. It is hard to put on and a pain in the ass to take off. It latches on to your battery door like a pit bull and contorts it when trying to take it off. The kickstand seems really frail too.

Didn't know that you could stand it horizontally on both sides. That's neat. Any pics of the kickstand itself?

It REALLY was a major pain to take off. Impossible for someone who plans on swapping out batteries a lot. And it also made it extremely difficult to turn the phone on and off via the power switch. I'm sending it back.
I'm going to get this one when I get refunded for the Casemate.

Yeah, I don't plan on swapping batteries. I rather have something that's going to protect my phone from drops, seeing how I do that a lot when getting out of the car,
i work for sprint so i get to test cases and other stuff out all the time. this case is sweet looking on the phone, although its a little bulky. as stated before on this thread, its a pain in the a** to take off and its a pain to turn on and off via the power switch. the kickstand is very very flimsy as well. too bad cuz this is the sweetest looking case out there with a kickstand.
comes in black also.
I ordered one and it showed up today, I'm definitely a fan. I had one of the cheap snap together cases, and sadly that actually scratched the phone cause it didnt fit tight enough to keep dirt out.. this is so much better. feels so much more solid in my hands, and well protected. swapping batteries.. yeah it makes that a pain. but it's a price I'm willing to pay. And the kickstand seems flimsy but it does the job, I have a hard time believing it'll be a problem cause it's actually so flexible, probably pretty hard to break it.

Yes there is. the rubber is very soft on the inside so I got a razor blade and cut the section out rite over the speaker sound is a lot better now.

You have to open the kickstand up all the way. It almost opens to a 90 degree angle

If you open it all the way, it locks, then you're able to stand it on it.
Ive had this case (black) for 2 or 3 weeks. Its very tight on the phone, I like that it fits well and wont fall off. I do usually have to use a butter knife on the bottom (no buttons to ruin) to pry it off. I love it. Ive seen it in Black White and Pink. Got it on ebay for $20. The kick stand is kinda flimsy, but hasnt fallen off yet. Hope this helps.
It is a great case I have had mine for a few weeks the only problem I have with it is it will block a little bit of the 4g signal. I have tested it its not a big issue but is ur signal is week it will kick u off 4g

Bent my LTEVO today... Can the issue be fixed permanently?

As the title says, I somehow managed to bend my phone today... Sitting in my shirt pocket without moving, pulled it out and it was bent.
Bent it back without issue but it has me wondering... Is there anything we can add to the phone itself to make it more rigid? Maybe do a One X back swap with a cutout for the kickstand (pipe dream probably)? I may even give up the kickstand for a properly supported backplate.
I'm currently using a Cruzerlite TPU case, which I love, and I don't want to get rid of it for something more rigid (and thicker), so I'm curious what other options there are? I'm not opposed to taking the phone apart and looking into some options... Maybe even something like thin metal rods that can be fed through the kickstand with a couple of small holes?
If there's no way to fix the issue permanently, I'm honestly very tempted to look into some other phone choices... I'm cautious with my phone (which is why I put the phone in my shirt pocket instead of my pants pocket in the first place) and it still happened. Next time I might not be so lucky on bending it back, and I'm not ready to fork out the $100 for insurance to replace a phone with (what I consider to be) a defect.
Am I crazy for expecting my phone to stay in one piece like every other phone I've owned, or is this the way phones are moving towards (giving up build quality for thinness sake)?

Weld a support beam along the sides?
Really would need to be something along the back, and as wide as possible. Might take the phone apart to the bare pieces to see what we're working with.

i keep mine in my pocket too but this often happens because people are wearing pants and what not that are too tight thus, causing their phone to bend when the pants are constricted during movement.
Ex: putting phone in back pocket of jeans and bending over/sitting on it.
I have no sympathy for people who bend their phone doing these things. If people cant realize that aluminum wont bend on such a thin phone then its their own damn fault.

As a former repair tech for Sprint, MOST stores will consider that physical damage. There are some, I was one of them, that would exchange it, under the right circumstances, but most will not. It will depend on the level of damage and with Assurion cracking down on Sprints exchange policy (Assurion doesn't just do replacements for damaged beyond repair, lost, or stolen... They do all refurbs as well) Sprint tech are being more selective about the phones for advance exchanges. Your absolute best bet, is a repair center at a Preferred Retailer. They have slightly looser rules and quotas to follow. Good luck guys!! Hope this helps.

For all you people talking about skinny jeans and what not, my phone is bent as well and I've put it in the leg pocket of my cargo shorts since the day I got it. As someone else said, there is another thread about this, it's a known issue. The phone tends to bend just above the kickstand. I bought an Otterbox Commuter in the hope that it will prevent my phone from getting worse. I've had a TPU case on it from the start but everyone has said really good things about the Otterbox so I figured I'd give it a try.

I'm kinda with this quote. I was being polite when I posted the link to the other thread on this very same issue.
The phone is solid guys. As a former repair tech for Sprint who has taken every single phone they sell apart, I can say this phone is sturdy. I have also taken this phone apart and beat on it pretty hard with power tools and an assortment of sand paper to polish the rear aluminum housing. I simply held it in my hand and sanded on it for hours, puttind a lot of stress on the part you guys are all calling weak, with out the screen or anything else the adding structural support.
I have had no issues what so ever and I only use a tpu case, if that.
If your phone is damaged, its not fair to place blame on anyone but yourselves, or possibly someone else if they were responsible.

Has your Nexus 6P spontaneously crinkled around the power button? READ THIS

I've posted a thread on Reddit getting into more detail about the spontaneous crinkling of the area surrounding the power/volume buttons, but obviously as a newer user I can't post links.
After reading over some 20-30 different cases and having experienced the crinkling first hand...
I believe that it's related to case usage, but it might help to further narrow down the cause of this issue.
My theory is that since metal expands/contracts in varying weather, it is expanding to a size which is too large for the case it is fitted in, resulting in the metal crinkling in the spot where it has the least amount of structural support. For someone like myself who works in property management, I'm constantly moving back and forth between room-temperature environments and colder 40-50 degree weather. The plastic/TPU case may contract/expand as well, but not at the same rate or the same degree as the metal chassis.
If this issue has happened to you post what type of case you use if applicable and how long you've had your device. Post photos if necessary.
For example, the spontaneous crinkling looks like the photos here

Honestly it's not super widespread. Remember it's the minority who will speak out about issues and most people will go on without having any issues. Don't shy away from this great device because a few of us are trying to figure out this issue.

Happened to me on my first 6P. I was using this case: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015X90UJS/
And it crinkled at the exact same spot. I thought it had something to do with the tightness of the case so I got a flexible tpu case to hopefully avoid it

No problem here. 64 Graphite with diztronic case.
Just going to leave this here.

The answer is, the phone is in your pocket, you sit down or do anything that causes your pants to apply pressure to your phone, it flexes and causes that little ripple in the metal.
I'm cautiously calling BS on this one. This is either a manufacturing defect or the result of some mishandling. Aluminum is not deforming like that without considerable force.
Also note the little chip in the glass right where it's bent (2nd picture).

That's interesting. I was thinking/hoping that that type of case (Supcase) would prevent any bending because it offers a bit more stability.

If that were true all phones regardless of make/model would bend. Of course any phone can bend with enough force applied but it would seem there's more at play here because the bend/kink is occuring in the same place. A case, especially an OEM sanctioned case, shouldn't bend a phone by simply inserting and removing it. As for being put in a pocket that's pretty common and you'd think it would be designed for.
If you look at the design of the 6P it's more sensitive to top-to-bottom stress because there's nothing holding the mid-frame to the aluminum body in the center. Most people put a case on top-to-bottom; at least I do. You'd be better off putting a 6P case on or removing it side-to-side to avoid putting pressure on the button cut-outs which are the weakest part of the aluminum frame.

I do understand what you mean. The issue is that it doesn't seem to be a problem with 99% of phones on the market. It seems that manufacturers should know by now that the phone will be put in our pockets so they should manufacturer them to withstand it.

They do bend! They are supposed to bend, just like a tall building in the wind. Look up how Apple tests the iPhone, most manufacturers do the same thing.

Me too. I like the way the case looks and feels. It's very tight on the phone. The edges around the phone are very flexible though

things bend sure, not like how the OP's picture is, or many others that have had the same issue.
there is bending, and then there is bending . this a design flaw in the nexus 6p . everyone jumped all over jerry rig video on youtube, but he exposed where the flaw was and cracked the phone with his sneeze.

Here's what's missing from the design Huawei chose for the 6P.
Unlike Samsung, LG, and Motorola who use the same design, there's no unity between the subframe and body of the phone on the 6P. The digitizer/display assembly is attached to the subframe with glue and those parts are secured to the aluminum frame only at the top and bottom. So when bent the aluminum frame is the weakest link. The strongest part of the 6P's structure is the area covered by the battery. The cutouts for the buttons and finger print sensor which weaken the frame just happen to be above the uppermost part of the battery.
Here's the video that still came from.
Cases do not cause the ripple (bend). When the phone is flexed in the middle is when this ripple will occur, has nothing to do with a case. I had a few 6ps up until now, 2 of them had this ripple. One got rippled over time and one was rippled out of the box - Neither were ever in a case.
The one that was slightly rippled out of the box, I did my own testing. I flexed the phone in the middle one way, then back the other way. When I flexed away from the screen the ripple would tighten up. When I flexed the phone towards the screen the edge would ripple a great degree. No matter what I did I couldn't get it to completely straighten out but it was clear that there is a lack a rigidity along the right edge. This has absolutely nothing to do with using a case.

Build quality: chipping scratching?

Hello everyone, since this thread was closed, I thought I'd reopen the discussion.
I'm currently waiting for my preorder to ship, but as of right now there is no specified date in Spain (just mid April). So I thought I'd ask you guys:
What do you think of the build quality? Do you see any potential issues in the near future? I saw the video of that guy scratch his G5 body very easily with a box cutter, of course, it's a box cutter! But do any of you think that will actually chip or scratch with normal usage? Like in your pocket, leaving it on the table, in your bag with other things? I do this all the time with my G4, G3, and every other device, but I have never seen such a video that a guy can literally take off the entire layer with little effort.
So people with devices, have any of you noticed or felt like the primer layer is weak or fragile enough to chip, break off, crack or come off by itself with little effort or every day wear? I'm planning on keeping this device for at least a year! (And yes, a case is on its way, but sometimes I do like to move around without a case - after all, these phones are designed without a case in mind...)
Thanks
The coating seems pretty durable, but I always use a skin on the phone so when I go to sell it it's in mint condition when I peel that skin off. I also keep the pocket it rides in free of other objects. I am sure if you took a box cutter to any phone, it would cause damage.

That's good to know. I just felt like in the video it looked like it was very "soft" or malleable. I just wanted to see what actual owners thought about it . I'm excited to get mine!
It's durable so far. been putting in my pocket with keys and no scratches, dents or dings. Dropped twice off the back of my couch last night onto my hard wood floor and my heart skipped a beat - no damage at all.
I prefer no case. The only thing that will really f-up your phone is dust/dirt as it will scratch everything

There are reports in some threads about small drops and keys dinging and scratching the phone.
With that said, it mostly depends on how it falls. I've heard of people's G4 body/screen cracking from five foot drops onto carpet. I've accidentally tossed mine eight feet in the air and had it land face down on pavement without a scratch, and that was using a Rinke Slim case.

From what I gather you need to intentionally cut into the phone in order to chip. Falls may do it too

And just to add, the phone though light has a solid heft to it (if that makes any sense). All of this talk of it being plastic has me fuming. I tapped the back and sides of the phone lightly on my granite counter top and there is no way in hell plastic makes a sound like that. I tried the same with my G3 and there are 2 distinct sounds...

What people i hear are saying is it does not feel like metal in the hand. LG promised, LG lied, we are disappointed, bla, bla....
it would seem that reviewers are adamant we should live in a world where ALL phones are anodised 'premium' flat slabs !!
Some companies beg to differ.
What is so godamn premium about aluminium. Its the cheapest metal to use. Its soft and dents like anything.

How is the leather back on the G4 holding up after nearly a year. Corners still peeling but never went beyond. The leather changed colour. The back on this is harder than leather.
So I appear to have developed a small chip on the top left side. I have been extremely careful with this phone in every way. Always in an empty pocket and set down carefully. Might have to get it exchanged.

See that's the thing, I didn't coddle my G4. I liked the feel of the leather, and I'm absolutely certain that I have bumped into stuff while it is in my pocket, that's the facts of life. You can't really avoid that. What I saw in another review yesterday was that in 8 days the device began to chip at the bottom where the magic slot is located. That's from normal usage. I'm very inclined to give it a shot! I loved and still love my G4, but I'm worried that the G5 might not hold up past a few months without seriously degrading the build quality [emoji19]

My 2 samsungs are very resistant : the Note 1 has felt 3-4 times, and the borders have just a liitle impact on a corner.
The Note 3 et Note 1 's paint are ok since the first day, no scratches, and the screens are ok too, without protection (just flip cover)
Samsung's phone are strong, hoping my future G5 is too :-/

Samsung were very strong devices. The last two years have been very fragile if dropped. The S7E I have now feels like I need to keep it in a diaper... I could drop my note, note 2 or 4. LG G4 too! But if the G5 begins to chip soon after... For the love of God! Hopefully what people are saying is true: there is a factory that has issues, but it's one of the three that are producing! So that's good...

Anyone have a busted fingerprint scanner laying around?

I'm curious if it's possible to disassemble the fingerprint scanner/power button without destroying it in the process; specifically separating the metal "rim" surrounding/covering the scanner plate from the rest of the assembly without damaging it.
It's pretty much impossible to figure it out purely from pictures, and it'd be a waste all 'round to buy a shiny new one just to break it.
Sooooo anyone?

Aesthetics experiment. The phone I ordered has broken back glass; I figured since I was replacing it anyway, I'd replace some other stuff too and do a two-tone sort of thing.
The camera glass is easy to separate from its trim and get a replacement for, as is the SIM tray...volume buttons are pretty much impossible to get in certain colors though. The fingerprint scanner is the only thing left.

I wouldn't normally look a gift horse squarely in the mouth, but I'm more than slightly curious as to why you have a handful of them :v
Having eyeballed some pictures and watched the rather destructive testing done by Zack/JerryRigEverything in slow motion, I've reached the conclusion that the reader plate is fused to the rim. The entire thing is probably a tub-shaped stamped plate that the scanner is glued into. The thing I want to do is probably not doable in the fashion I wanted to do it. Fortunately I have a plan B.
I wouldn't mind having a couple of spares, since I'm going to have the phone for quite some time (assuming I can get a seller to ship me one that's as-described...). I'll shoot you a PM in a minute.
I think over the last 2 years I've purchased 6 lg v30s. Most of them slightly flawed off eBay for parts and stuff so I have ziplock bags separating phones and their parts. I saw this thread and checked my bag of lg v30 parts I'll no longer be using and I think I have 4 fingerprint sensors fully intact in there. I'm in a giving mood I guess I'll check my messages thanks
it's pretty easy to disassemble FP/power button without damage. I'm using hot air to loosen the adhesive then pry it with metal/plastic pry tool. The problem is, after removing, the adhesive that held them with back glass will completely unusable so I had to clean that adhesive and replace it with some black B7000 glue. In other hand, the back glass itself only cost around $16 completely with fingerprint/power button and ready to install.

I knew that the power button could be separated, they're available for sale (though somewhat less commonly than button+scanner sets). This separation is what I'm after:

It looks like the scanner plate is a separate piece, but I'm going to guess it's permanently glued down with epoxy or something. My phone arrives tomorrow, so I can poke at it a bit and see if it moves at all.
I have a feeling that even if the plate can be pulled up, it won't be removable due to the ribbon connection. So all this will be for naught anyway :silly:
Thanks for mentioning B7000. I wasn't sure what kind of adhesive would be appropriate for restoring some water resistance, and to be honest I don't have much faith in the pre-fitted double-sided tape included with new backs; B7000 sounds like the kind of stuff I'll want.
No not really but I love the phone and have broken 3 screens. When trying to get another screen the replacement screens cost more than damn near just buying 2 complete bad esi or slightly cracked phones. So I figured why pay for a screen when I can buy a complete soonersoft lg v30 for half. I was also experimenting with using silicone sealent to waterproof the back glass.. I feel like I'm being interogated here lol.... Any other questions?? ?
By the way
Silicone actually works I've torture tested the sh&t out of it . Ugly and messy but works in case you were wondering ..
Obviously I have too much time on my hands

Ah, fair enough. Did you find that you needed to replace stuff on your handset very often?

I've bought several (more than 7) still being used by family and friends and have not needed to replace anything. But then I always bought "mint" 9/10 or 10/10.

Makes sense. I'd noticed that replacement screens are still pretty expensive, prices haven't come down as much as I would have expected. Kind of drives home that a high-bezel case and screen protector are a good idea if there's any gravel within a mile.

Pfft, we haven't even started with the questions yet. I have the lads setting up the waterboarding rig next door.
Ooh, passive antitheft; random thieves are unlikely to grab a phone that can't be mistaken for a stock Samscum or Apple at a glance :v
Looks pretty cool, though. I was considering doing a clear-back mod, but I have other things in mind for this round. What kind of coating did they use for the glass coloring; just straight paint, or was it a peel-able layer?
I did think that automotive RTV sealant/gasket-maker would work awesomely for waterproofing, but...being resistant to heat, aren't these silicon-based adhesives considerably harder to pull back apart?

:good:
I tried my best to buy a minimally-or undamaged one with an unscratched screen. If there's to be damage to my phone, I want it to be my fault. Unscratched H932-BK/UBKs are rather uncommon, so it took a bit of patience.
The one I've got coming tomorrow is said to have spent all its life in an Otterbox Defender with one of those crappy-but-effective plastic-sticker screen protectors on front. It only has a busted back due to a one-in-a-million impact; toddler enthusiastically ran his head into it while it was in the owner's pocket.
I'm uh...guessing the kid's head is made of granite, as apparently only the phone received damage despite his headbutting it that hard through one of the thickest cases on the market
I haven't tried to pull it apart this particular v30 I wasn't planning on taking it apart if my personal ip rating held up during the tests. I got the idea because my neighbor had one of those face cleaner things called clearsonic pro or something close to that anyway. It was a product sold I think towards the end of the 2008 or so. Designed to be used in water environments and waterproofed for this reason. Her unit stopped working so I volunteered to fix it. I cut it open and replaced the batteries but then had to figure out how to seal it up to be used in a wet environment again . So I bought just regular GE silicone sealant at home Depot and spewed it everywhere threw 4 clamps on it and left it alone. I waited a couple days and then cut the excess off then went to town drenching the cut line with super glue. Waited then dremmel sanded it down and it worked great. As I said I have too much time on my hands. I didn't use caulking silicone just regular silicone.
The only reason I even try this stuff is because the prices for lg v30's that are blemished are dirt dirt cheap now. I didn't touch my first one I think it was 900 or something back a few years

I won't tell the mods we're off-topic if you won't. Shhh.
Have you tried the extremely dumb LG Bridge trick/fix thing? I believe it mainly helps with memory management, but it seems like I saw a couple people say it also helped Pie not run like crap in general.
This kind of thing is why I'll be sticking with Oreo...in my opinion Pie doesn't have enough compelling new features to justify dealing with the ROM's immaturity, and some of them annoy me (notification handling) or actively piss me off (location settings neuter).

Yea, "if it ain't broke, don't encourage it to break". I can dig it.
I just tried taking it apart and the ring around the scanner surface can be detached, but not the surface itself.

Thanks!
Not at all what I expected...so we have a scanner plate, base plate made out of steel, and then the aluminum anodized ring.
Did it come off easily? Looks like they used the same double-sided tape/gasket that everything else is held together with.
