[Q] CM10 will not install - Motorola Droid X2

Hello all,
For the life of me, I cannot get Cyanogenmod 10 Alpha 3 to install on the Droid X2 that my friend gave me. I have been able to root it and CWM is installed (though only accessible via the System Recovery app and when plugged into the wall).
When I go to install from sdcard, I get the following:
-- Installing: SDCARD:cm-10-20130113-UNOFFICIAL-daytona.zip
Finding update package...
Opening updated package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/cm-10-20130113-UNOFFICIAL-daytona.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I had wiped cache and factory reset before attempting. I've tried redownloading it. I've tried copying it to the "internal sdcard", which gives me a kernel error if i try to install from there.
Any ideas? I didn't have anywhere near this kind of trouble getting CM10 on my HTC Aria.
Thank you in advance.

Lets put it the easy way, are you on android version 2.3.5 or 2.3.4. You need to be on 2.3.4 to install or it will abort like that. If your on 2.3.5 then sbf back to 2.3.4 and then install.

I'm on 2.3.5; it came that way from my friend and when I bricked it last night, I sbf'd it back to 2.3.5 because I was unaware that you could roll back (my experience lies in iPhone jailbreaking, and we can't roll back 99% of the time).
So the course of action is to then:
1. SBF to 2.3.4 [REF] Roms, Root, SBF, RSD, Bootstrap, Mods
2. root via This root tool on the Unlockr? This was the root I've used thus far.
3. flash CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169677
4. Copy my rom zips to the SD card (do I need the WiFI patch? It's labeled MX2, I have a DX2)
5. Use the System Recovery app to get into CWM and flash my CM10, right?

yes those steps should be fine
don't use Wi-Fi fix

Since I've already used RSD Lite to get the phone working again on (2.3.5), would there be any issue just to use RSD Lite again for 2.3.4?
The Linux boot USB drive sounds like a viable option though. Using that though, wouldn't I run option 1 then 2?
Thanks again Shadow.

Spinning Stargate of CM10...
No annoying DROOOOOID sound and eyeball...
But it's been on the Cyanogenmod logo for a while now. Several minutes actually.

if it doesn't boot in 2-3 mins it's not likely going to.

Ok. I'm factory resetting and going to start over completely from scratch.
After installing CM10 and Gapps, should I wipe or reset anything before restarting?

use Gaaps 20121011

Can't update photon ota

I recently rooted my photon, and then noticed I had an update. I've tried to update ota, but it keeps failing to install. Is this due to rooting, or is there another problem? I'm still running the stock Rom, as I use 4G too much, and am not ready to tackle the work around. Any ideas?
Thank you in advance,

A lot of people are having that problem. Either wait for a flashable version or sbf back to stock and accept the update then reroot.

Still new to this, is there a guide to what you are talking about?
One of the devs will probably at some point provide an update that you can use with cwm recovery to apply to your phone. If you still have a locked bootloader, make sure you figure out how to install and get into cwm

- In the forum, download the zip file containing the 45.2.5 Update. Look for "Final Build Courtesy of..." Yay For Juggs had posted that build. It'll take you to stock.
- Unzip it
- Open up RSD Lite and select the SBF file
- Get your phone into RSD support mode
- Connect your phone to the back of your computer and make sure it's charged at least 50% - RSD should recognize it
- Start the program to get you back to the stock ROM
- Once your phone reboots, run the update manually via "About Phone>System Updates"
- Re root your phone after
^^ that will definitely work for you, but you will loose all your settings and such. I used titanium backyp to back up apps&data but remember that it saves to sd - and that is an internal partition on this phone, so that will get wiped as well. You will need to pull the backup off that partition and replace it after you are updated.

My internal did not get wiped during RSD. I was able to restore from titanium and never moved any files. It is prob wise to make a copy onto the SD though just to be safe.
For what it's worth, I've flashed the stock rom with rsdlite and updated OTA and none of my apps and settings were deleted. Everything was just the way I had left it.

Search Google for a Rom Manager apk and download it either to your phone or to a computer and move it to your SD card then install it.
Use AIO toolbox and use that to install a 2.2 ROM. It will put cwm recovery to install the ROM. And from there you can get it from the market.
I am having the same problem. I ODINed back to stock, rooted, and went to the market and there is no free version on the ROM Manager there anymore. I tried googleing for one, found it and then tried installing and got a "parsing error". Now im stuck on a holding pattern until I can find one. SUCKSSSSSSSSSSS

This is the ticket. Its the option b update.zip . I had tried flashing it before but forgot I needed to do it twice. Jstewart- download the update.zip, put it on the root of your internal SD card, then use the 3 button method to reboot into recovery, o nce there scroll to reinstall packages, select it, you will see the yellow recovery text scrolling and then it will return to stock recovery, select reinstall packages again and it should send you into CWR. It helps if you already have your chosen ROM downloaded because you can install the zip directly from here, if you reboot you without flashing new ROM you still wont have the app but next time you go to recovery it will be stock again, just reinstall packages once more to get back to CWR and then proceed to flash away.
Now, can someone hook me up with the CM 7 Googleapps.zip?

I think I know why I used to get the p-a-r-s-e error. These apps were simply not compatible with the eclair rom. Rom Manager v4.7.0.2 is compatible with eclair, installed, and flashed recovery without issues. I am now on my way to restore my WeUI

You have to put the update.zip on the root of your phone(meaning no folder). When you connect your phone to your pc and click your internal storage it should be at the very bottom and NOT in a folder.

It's always been there. The problem lies somewhere else..
It happens when I choose the "Install ROM from SD card" option. I choose the rom from my sd card (root, next to update.zip file). It reboots and gives the error.

Yes you will be fine doing that, custom ROMs come rooted so that's why everyone usually skips option A unless they plan on staying on 2.1 eclair.

2.3.5 Photon Flashed to Electrify 2.3.5 USCC (SBF) Problem with USB

All,
I have flashed 1 other Photon to the 2.3.5 Electrify SBF and followed this thread and had no problems.. ([How-To] Unlock ATT/T-Mobile on 2.3.5 OTA - xda-developers)
This one is a little different.
Problems:
1. Wifi Does not work(Error)
2. It does not detect any CDMA signals (I don't have an account anyways)
My steps:
1. Flash full 2.3.5 Electrify SBF
2. Pull battery and let phone reboot into 2.3.5 US Cellular Electrify Rom .(takers 5 mins)
3. Turn on USB debugging mode to gain root and install recovery..
This is where it craps out! Says it "cannot change mode" and when I reboot the phone to try again nothing happens when USB is plugged in.
1. RSD works.
2. Fastboot works
3. The phone/driver shows up in device manager correctly.
Can anyone suggest a way to get this bad boy on KDDI radio and PEETr_s' rom? I just wanna use GSM.
Thanks,.
NOTW:
I can access my SD card....
Can I install a Superuser APK from the SD card, to gain root? Which version should I use?
(I tried an older version and it did not gain root so I still can't load DroidX2 recovery.
Thanks.
Wireless is working now and I am able to get to the market...
Update:
Did this:
http://mobigees.info/root-motorola-photon-2-3-5/
I was able to get Root access Verified by Root Checker form store.
Tried to install X2 recovery.APK Says it installed then when I reboot-recovery it just reboots into US-Cellular rom. (NO BootStarp Recovery!)
I am pulling my hair out! Help!
Wireless ADB works... If that helps or gives anyone any ideas....
TWRP recovery installs and gives failed to boot 2. (I can flash stock recovery back via Fastboot)
This this just will NOT reboot into Droid X2 recovery. (yes I have multiple charge cables etc..)
Can I leverage fastboot here at all?

Hmmm... odd. Personally I'd probably start over and reflash from the beginning, then get root access, then load the recovery bootstrap and try again.
With that said, I'm using MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.apk with MD5 has as:

If yours is not that one, I can post it for download. At least I know this one works on my Photon 4G.
Yea I started over a few times...
Question;
If I RSD the USCC 2.3.5 .SBF should i still retain settings? aka WIFI networks etc? It is almost like it didn't take the first SBF correctly...
This is the 4th Photon I have done. Only 1 i have had prb with.
Can you post that recovery for me?

Well, depends on the SBF, I guess, but seems plenty possible if it does not reformat the data partition. If it really kept everything, I'd to a factory reset just to be sure no garbage was left behind.
Anyway -- you can download the bootstrap recovery I saved off here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pirh10pspz9m7re/MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.apk

It may help. If not then root your phone install bootstrap recovery and flash roms for locked bootloader like peetr hybrid rom

Please read through the thread link provided.
Is your photon showed any trouble before flashing. What is the reason behind 2.3.5 sbf flashing

Actually I was facing "RSD protocol support" error on my photon. So I thought that was bcoz of some software so I flashed this electrify sbf. After some time it was bcoz of volume up button was not working. Now my phone is rebooting again and again

If you are getting starting rsd protocol message during booting is due to faulty vol up button. ( vol up+ power on = rsd protocol mod, vol down + power on = fastboot mod )
I think the initial problem was stucked vol up button .

Various steps for different roms. Be carefull about selecting roms. Only flash roms for locked bootloader. Otherwise your phone will be bricked. I suggest peeters hybrid rom for locked bootloader.

4) Flash 254_13 modules with bootstrap. you need them.
5) Flash 2.3.5_254_13 sv2 boot, recovery and cdrom image sbf with RSD Lite.
6) Flash 254_12 libmoto_ril.so with bootstrap. You don't need to flash the radio SBF.

[Q] Rooted but can't get any ROM installed

@sd_shadow, I rooted my droid razr T912 using the iRoot method. I have bootstrap 3.72 installed and I had made a back up of the image prior to installing CM 11. I'm running into errors installing anything on my razr now. I tried to go back to my old image copy but I erased system along with dalvic, data so now it won't boot up. I still have access to bootstrap, can you help me please? Do I need to restore the factory image or since I have bootstrap is there a way to get a new image on without the system files?

I used Rootmaster.apk to root the phone. I used stargo's 3.75 Safestrap 31-Jan-2015 for the recovery.
I used cm-12.1-20150519-NIGHTLY-spyder.zip and
gapps-lp-20150314.zip
but like I said these fail, which is fine but I can't get my old image back because it fails at the system install. I think it's because I initially wiped system?
In op you wrote that you used 3.72?

An update, I tried to re-install the old backup but without system, in which it didn't do anything but eventually came up to the bootstrap screen. It stated that I didn't have su and If I wanted to install the SU binaries. I clicked yes thinking that would get it to work and now I can't get the bootstrap screen, but I can only get to the bootloader now. It seems like I will need to revert back to the old firmware correct? In the AP Fastboot Flash Mode it says the device is locked btw.

TWRP is used with many devices. With some devices twrp can be flashed before rooting, and then you can root with TWRP, the XT912 is not one of those devices.
When you get not rooted warning in twrp, that almost always means Rom is not bootable or completely missing.
Do not reboot if you get that warning.

The twrp nandroid backup includes system and user partitions, if done correctly.
Ok, I'm in the process of using RSD lite

I'm sure I can get it back to normal now.
Thank you so very much
Alright, I'm back again. But this an interesting development. Let me describe the whole process.
I originally rooted using the Saferoot - [Video]Safe Root for Jelly Bean Android Devices like the Droid Bionic 4.1.2 & More @Tomsgt to root again. It worked like a charm. I updated the SU binaries from the updated SU app and placed SU in my system. My next step was to install safestrap 3.75 which I had the apk still on my internal memory and was able to install it successfully. I booted to the recovery and made a back up(which I'm curious to know if it actually worked this time, but I haven't flashed back to yet) which worked flawlessly. Now this time I wiped with just doing a simple dalvik cache wipe and installed CM12 per the directions and Gapps in this thread Official CM12 thread - Official Downloads (XT912). Everything appears to be fine but I noticed that I didn't have SU, I checked to see if the phone was rooted, which the jRummy root checker says no root. I've tried flashing a SU zip from this post Quote:

thanks dude...
https://download.chainfire.eu/396/Su...etrieve_file=1 just flash superSU in ss recovery to gain root access.
So I can't seem to get root access which is bothering me, but not a deal breaker. I've also noticed that when I try to connect to the computer, my computer can't connect to the phone for some reason. So I'm curious to know how I can get root access again? Should I try saferoot again? I hope this is makes sense.....

every rom has a separate superuser/binary, root access for stock has nothing to do with a custom rom.
if you can boot to twrp recovery, stock slot should be rooted.
rom slot you are installing cm12 in?
full file names?
verified md5s?

Tried this zip for SU https://download.chainfire.eu/396/Su...etrieve_file=1 just flash superSU in ss recovery to gain root access.

You don't need to search, it says in twrp which slot is selected.
see my [Video] Installing/Upgrading Safestrap 3.75 and Installing a Lollypop Rom
