[Q] Rooted but can't get any ROM installed - Motorola Droid RAZR

@sd_shadow, I rooted my droid razr T912 using the iRoot method. I have bootstrap 3.72 installed and I had made a back up of the image prior to installing CM 11. I'm running into errors installing anything on my razr now. I tried to go back to my old image copy but I erased system along with dalvic, data so now it won't boot up. I still have access to bootstrap, can you help me please? Do I need to restore the factory image or since I have bootstrap is there a way to get a new image on without the system files?

I used Rootmaster.apk to root the phone. I used stargo's 3.75 Safestrap 31-Jan-2015 for the recovery.
I used cm-12.1-20150519-NIGHTLY-spyder.zip and
gapps-lp-20150314.zip
but like I said these fail, which is fine but I can't get my old image back because it fails at the system install. I think it's because I initially wiped system?

In op you wrote that you used 3.72?

An update, I tried to re-install the old backup but without system, in which it didn't do anything but eventually came up to the bootstrap screen. It stated that I didn't have su and If I wanted to install the SU binaries. I clicked yes thinking that would get it to work and now I can't get the bootstrap screen, but I can only get to the bootloader now. It seems like I will need to revert back to the old firmware correct? In the AP Fastboot Flash Mode it says the device is locked btw.

TWRP is used with many devices. With some devices twrp can be flashed before rooting, and then you can root with TWRP, the XT912 is not one of those devices.
When you get not rooted warning in twrp, that almost always means Rom is not bootable or completely missing.
Do not reboot if you get that warning.

The twrp nandroid backup includes system and user partitions, if done correctly.

Ok, I'm in the process of using RSD lite

I'm sure I can get it back to normal now.
Thank you so very much

Alright, I'm back again. But this an interesting development. Let me describe the whole process.
I originally rooted using the Saferoot - [Video]Safe Root for Jelly Bean Android Devices like the Droid Bionic 4.1.2 & More @Tomsgt to root again. It worked like a charm. I updated the SU binaries from the updated SU app and placed SU in my system. My next step was to install safestrap 3.75 which I had the apk still on my internal memory and was able to install it successfully. I booted to the recovery and made a back up(which I'm curious to know if it actually worked this time, but I haven't flashed back to yet) which worked flawlessly. Now this time I wiped with just doing a simple dalvik cache wipe and installed CM12 per the directions and Gapps in this thread Official CM12 thread - Official Downloads (XT912). Everything appears to be fine but I noticed that I didn't have SU, I checked to see if the phone was rooted, which the jRummy root checker says no root. I've tried flashing a SU zip from this post Quote:

https://download.chainfire.eu/396/Su...etrieve_file=1 just flash superSU in ss recovery to gain root access.
So I can't seem to get root access which is bothering me, but not a deal breaker. I've also noticed that when I try to connect to the computer, my computer can't connect to the phone for some reason. So I'm curious to know how I can get root access again? Should I try saferoot again? I hope this is makes sense.....

[Q] Need help with device after recovery flash

I got the Verizon HTC One Max today... Successfully got bootloader unlock, root, and S-OFF (thanks to rumrunner!).
Found CWM Touch/Non-Touch recovery as well as TWRP. Tried flashing both via fastboot and neither would actually load when telling device to boot into recovery. Tried installing TWRP via GooManager, no go. Tried installing CWM via ROM Manager, no go. Recovery not found for either is what I was pretty much running in to.
Decided to try flashing recovery for Verizon HTC One (via ROM Manager), it says it worked, but still would not boot into recovery. Ever since then, though, I cannot get service and device will be on for a minute or two and then reset.
Manually flashed TWRP and CWM and now it seems to boot into recovery (with either), but still no service and still resetting every minute or two.
Cannot find RUU for this device, nor can I find radio to flash or stock recovery.
Help me! I want my phablet back! lol

Where did you "find" cwm and twrp? Different versions from other forums 'sometimes' contain other partitions with them.
Should only use:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-max/orig-development
Recoveries are made from a device specific kernel. The One kernel is very similar to the Max but not exact. There is work being done to get usable pieces of a decrypted Verizon Max ruu. Not sure what you can do until available.

Dont go without. You have custom Max recovery installed now and we have the files for someone in here to create you some flashable zips of stock kernel and stock recovery to try. Decrypted ruu pieces are needed when you cant flash with custom recovery.
Just ask in General for someone to create flashable zips.

Fastboot flash boot (bootfilename)
Just replace the (bootfilename) part with the file name you are using
Example
Fastboot flash boot g6f789c8.img
Edit- also I checked and found that drop box must have added the .bin extension. The flashify app leaves them without extension because it assumes they are .IMG files. Therefore, they can simply be renamed to .IMG. Didn't notice that in the hurry to post.

Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
What you need to do is fastboot the stock recovery, you shouldn't need the stock boot.img unless you tried to flash someone else's kernel for a different device... Anyways yeah you need to fastboot the stock recovery by rebooting in to bootloader and typing "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" given the stock recovery is "recovery.img" which it should be.. Once stock recovery is installed boot in to the stock recovery any way you can possibly get to it and do a full factory data reset.. This will wipe the entire phone as well as reset the Verizon radio/baseband and theoretically you should be able to boot right back up and cell and data connection should resume as normal! Good luck and PM me if you need any further help and I'll give you my gmail/hangouts so you can hit me up directly right there..

[Q] Won't Boot After CM11

I just installed SafeStrap 3.65 on my phone, then created a new rom slot and installed CM11-M2. It seemed to install fine, but when I rebooted it just shows the red Motorola logo and then a black screen, nothing else. I have no way to get back into SafeStrap. I can get into the stock recovery, but it doesn't seem very helpful at the moment.
Any ideas on where to start would be greatly appreciated!

This happened to me. I never could figure out what went wrong so I eventually did restore stock using Matt's utility ( used the option to do a full data wipe ). Then I booted into stock and accepted the OTA update from Verizon. Then I ran Matt's utility to gain root access, but I did not use Matt's utility to install SafeStrap.
Instead I downloaded SafeStrap 3.65 and manually installed it. At this point I could successfully boot into SafeStrap and create and activate a ROM slot ( I recommend creating slot 1 for CM10.x and slot 2 for CM11 ). I then installed CM and gapps and was able to successfully reboot into the custom ROM.
Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
I ended up having to set everything back to stock and then re-root and install SafeStrap.

Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!

i want to reflash to stock because my 4g stopped working with carbon custom rom on moto rola droid razr x912
Yes... This worked for me.
After searching and trying for days, this has worked and I now have root access. Thank you.
Things that I set which may help others are:
I did a full factory reset and wiped all data and cache.
Connected via USB in "camera" mode rather than "Mass Storage"
Entered "Smart Actions" via Settings/Managed Apps.
System version was 98.72.165.XT912.Verizon.en.US
Android version:4.1.2
A common problem encountered when trying to root is when Smart Actions has already been initialised, either on a previously used system or of an unsuccessful attempt has already been made. In this case, simply go to applications and clear data for Smart Actions, then start over...

Hello, I am a noob to this and this would be my first post. I have an XT912 that was bone stock (been updated to Jellybean via network updates)and stuck in a bootloop. I have downloaded the droid razr utility (batman by Matt) to my Widows 7 computer, and tried the wipe all data option 1 and without wiping data option 2 and they both get stuck in the "writing system..." and that is as far as it goes. I've waited for hours, no change and eventually my battery has died. Yesterday I performed surgery on a cable and made a programmers cable so it will communicate and stay powered up as long as it is plugged in, I just can't seem get past the hang up when it goes to "writing system..." what could I be doing wrong here?

Re-bricked after using original Droid Razr Utility XT912
Please forgive me as this is my first post. After using the original Droid Razr Utility XT912, I was able to re-flash to JB 4.1.2 and updated to the latest OTA. However, I could not get the utility to Root my phone (kept saying outdated/expired adb or something to that effect), so I was able to get root via Kingo Root. I then noticed that there was an updated version of Safestrap (3.75) vs. what I had been using prior (3.73), but when i downloaded and installed the apk, the phone reboots to the safestrap splashscreen (which appears oversized for the phone compared to my former working version 3.73) for about 10 seconds, then the screen goes black. I tried wiping everything from within the android recovery and re-running your updated utility to no avail. Please don't tell me I've finally killed off my old reliable. Many thanks in advance

This is a little off topic, this a safestrap issue not utility.
did you follow the readme.txt for the new safestrap?

re-run what options? what is it doing now? still getting safestrap bootmenu after reflashing firmware?
---------- Post added at 02:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:02 PM ----------
using Safestrap-spyder-v3.75.apk
verify size? 14.0 MB (14,746,268 bytes)
Once again, sorry for what appears to be off topic, but as I stated earlier, it wasn't until I tried to install safestrap 3.75 that I had the problem. I followed the install instructions for ss, but since there was no older version onboard following a) re-flashing clean stock ROM while wiping data, I didn't need to uninstall previous version. And, yes all I get when rebooting is a non-responsive safestrap flashscreen for approx. 10 secs, then a black screen.
Droid Razr Utility Use
I am trying it reflash my phone using the Droid Razr utility jellybean. I down loaded the software and drivers, connected my phone opened the software but don't know what to do next. are there any instructions on this program. I clicked on RST lite but nothing happened. I have unrooted my phone and all I want to do is get rid of safestrap so I can sell it.
Any help appreciated

you don't have to flash firmware to remove safestrap, if stock rom slot is still stock
boot to stock rom, open safestrap app, select uninstall recovery, press home button
Menu>Manage Apps> select safestrap uninstall
delete twrp and safestrap folders from internal and external sd cards
done

you don't use RSD Lite with the Utility, one or the other.

I selected the safestrap menu on startup, selected boot to stock ROM but I do not know how to open the safestrap app. I do not see the safestrap app listed or uninstall recovery.

if you unrooted
probably need to reroot
reinstall original safestrap version
then go through uninstall steps

Power off, Hold volume buttons (or M key/droid 4), Power on, release buttons at
Boot Mode Selection Menu> Scroll down with volume down button, to BP Tools, Select with Volume UP button, should boot directly to SafeStrap (if it's still there).

@stargo has released a updated safestrap (v3.75 - Jan 2015)
Cm12 requires safestrap v3.75 (or newer)
Safestrap-XXXXX-v3.75.apk (31-Jan-2015 )
if you installed the debugged version likely do not need to upgrade, but if you have 3.74 or lower use Safestrap-XXXXXX-v3.75.apk (or newer)
follow the readme.txt instructions on the download site
Download the version for your device

So other than uninstalling the recovery through the old app, then deleting it then installing the newer 3.75 apk app, is there anything else someone should be mindful of?
I'm about to upgrade my safestrap from 3.73 to 3.75 myself on my XT912... Backing up everything while I read and reply...

Success, it went smoothly, thank you.

How do I recover from bad safestrap?

I had just recovered from a RDS lite flash and installed ss 3.73 on android 4.0.4 and was booting fine. I used ss recovery to do a system+webtop+(one more) backup. After that I could no longer boot to stock ROM. I then wiped dalvik but that didn't help. Is there any other way then RDS lite to disable ss?

No way to disable Safestrap and still boot stock, unless device is already in stock.
Suspect that if stock will not boot, it is no longer bootable, did you try restoring stock backup in safestrap?
That's what it's for.
or you could try my 6.16.207.XT908.LRA.en.US stock backup should work fine on the XT912, just doesn't have the Verizon bloatware

Forgot that you wrote that it's on 4.0.4, my backup may not work.

If you mean if I activated stock slot, then yes. I can't remember if I tried to restore my backup or not. I ended up just flashing with rds again. Of cause I had to do the setup all over again but it worked fine. I would just have hoped ss had a back-out option.
