Yes you can, my advice is don't unlock, it voids warranty and the only reasonyou would want to is to flash a custom kernel. You can still root and install cmw with a locked bootloader and most Roms are flashable via cmw

Ya u can unlock ur booloader and can still flash stock..
And their nt rish becoz u can still relock ur bootloader when u wish.

Relocking bootloader requires stock kernel. Kernel is included in a ftf file. The complete stock firmware is in ftf file, which you need to install via Flashtool.

read that. Everything regarding bootloader unlocking should be there remember, you MUST be on stock 2.3.3 rom to unlock bootloader. The official Sony Ericsson rom, not any stock-based rom..

I had a very quick look at that thread and it looks like it does.
It's always worth using the search button in these forums. It can save you a lot of time.

good question, if ticklefish is right, then this will save me lots of time when i test new things on mi own roms, because it bricks often
Stock .587 is unrootable via adb.
ro.secure=1 makes it secure against exploit.
It does not it is for 4.1.A.0.562

Why u worry first downgrade to ginger than just update via Ota i.e wifi.. Root will remain.. Easy ics with latest kernel..

If you have boot loader unlocked then just flash the custom kernel as the kernels have in built su binaries and cwm recovery. As mine is also 587 built live with Walkman and I'm running cm10 on it. I have just flashed custom rom and that's it. No doom lord kit nothing else. Only kernel flash using flash tool

It's impossible to root it with a toolkit, see my rooting guide sticked in general forum how to root .587
I mean to say if you have unlocked bootloader then rooting via flashtool by flashing custom kernel is simplest and safest process. But you need bootloader unlocked

[Q] Root[Locked Bootloader]Xperia Neo V with Stock ROM 4.02.A.0.62

Hi,
I am new in rooting android. Let me explain you all my issues in detail as I've been searching for long but didn't got any info regarding my case.
Scene:::
I never rooted my Xperia neo v.
I updated to Official ICS latest firmware. My neo was running fine for about 4 to 5 months (except it was laggy).
Recently, When I turned on the bluetooth , it got stuck in bootloop . So, searched and from the great developers help in this forum, I got the solution to Falsh my neo v with stock rom . I did and now I've 4.0.2.A.0.62.
Now,My questions are:::
Q1. Can I root my Neo V without unlocking the bootloader ?
Q2. I tried the Fastboot method but Android SDK Manager doesn't run on my Windows 8 64bit, tried to fix it too but it didn't fix. So any alternate solution to this method?
Q3. Also, When I check via *#*#7378423#*#*, it says 'Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes'.Does it mean I've an Unloackedbootloader?
And it might sound a lil stupid, But Please can I have the detail rooting solution according to my above questions?
Thanks all,
Akash
First of all there's no connection in rooting and bootloader.
Rooting is simply giving super user capabilities or allowing root acess, like admin rights in windows.which stock android os don't provide for security reasons.
If your bootloader is locked you can't install other kernels accept the default sony provided kernels, but you can root, install other custom roms like ihave zellycream v2.meanwhile in unlocked bootloader you can flash with custom kernel of your choice.
The message ur getting means you have a locked bootloader, which can b unlocked.to unlocking there are several methods..you can get by searching the forum.
About me I have a locked bootloader. And on zellycream v2 rom.

i think u need GB kernel first
For locked bootloader only solution is to flash a gb ftf fw first and then flasha ny custom roms
Cheers,
AJ
Flash Gb.ftf file via Flashtool, it's easy
Sent from my Xperia Mini Pro using xda app-developers app
Well this solution worked for me some months back when I had locked bootloader.
Your on a ics rom. Download any gb rom of ur choice
Go to cwm full wipes then install gb rom and dont reboot just power of device since rebooting will end phone in a loop. Since ics kernel (stock) and gb rom
Then connect to pc via flashmode (since fastboot is for unlocked bootloader device)
Flash stock gb kernel via flashmode in flashtool. Done! No need to flash stock gb and root it!
P.S. Flashing kernel is recommended before flashing rom but its jst a short technique to avoid flashing stock ftf and re-root it.
