Finally jelly bean update for Xperia tablet S is here!
Oh god! Finally!

Wow! I just fell off my chair! Gimme now lol
I cannot bloody wait! Thank you Sony!
But not for the UK? Has release as USA :'(
No Australia?
The last time Sony VAIO released an Android update, American got it, then a few months later, so did Europe - that was Release 5 for the Sony Tablet.
However, seeing as though that is just a USA forum, in the past, ALL Xperia Tablet S updates have been released at the same time.
Eagerly awaiting the release notes. Mobile Bravia Engine, please!
I'm pretty sure that it will be a global release, we will have to wait till afternoon tomorrow here in europe!

Always has been with this Tablet.
I expect he's just saying that as he is a rep for the US.
Project Butter at last. The main thing (other than the random shutdowns) that bugs me about ICS is the 30fps animations.
60fps here we come...welcome to 2013!!! Fingers crossed for a European/UK launch!
Even if its not a UK release just yet, I'm interested to see if its different or whether they've included the new Sony Mobile launcher. Given this is 4.1.1 after all....
I was hoping for a new feature from Sony here.
If its a good release, I'll cancel my pre order.

Ooooh, interesting - not tempted by the boost in screen res/features? Or just not that fussed about shelling out £400+ within 7/8 months? Will just need to wait and see. My XTS is destined for the graveyard anyway so this will just make its passage to the next life a little more...buttery.
I do enjoy using this device, nice screen size, good processor, so if the JB release doesn't differ much to the Xperia Tablet Z, then not much point upgrading!
Besides which, the XTZ is still over a month away!
Something tells me though that Jellybean won't arrive here for quite sometime...(UK)
Oh, and i just bought a new car
Bit skint.

Fair enough then, makes sense! I am still fingers crossed for the Jelly Bean launch today but, as you say, not holding out that much hope. Since using Nova Launcher I get far fewer shutdowns etc anyway so not too fussed.
OT: What car did you get??
Who knows that if there is a 4.1 update for the sony tablet S?
I think the users of sony tablet S are forgotten.....

Sony have already announced that the original Tablet S will not be getting upgraded to Jelly Bean I am afraid.
Let's hope the post doesn't get deleted this time

Sony's not even released the release notes yet. If we don't get the update soon in the UK, at least give us the release notes!
There's no word on Sony GB's pages.
But saying that, USA hasn't 'properly' woken up yet lol

It will come out today in Portugal as they've updated the info on Sony update site. http://www.sony.pt/support/pt/product/sgpt121e1_s
Procedimento de actualização do software | 18 /04 / 2013 (Procedure of software update)
Actualização de sistema Android 4.1.1 Actualizar já (Upgrade of Android system 4.1.1 - Upgrade now)
Even tough, the link isn't working and the System update on the tablet isn't allowing to update as it says that the System is updated. It will only be a matter of hours I suppose!
Why 4.1.1 though?
Sony VAIO always seem to be one iteration behind a release. 4.0.3 instead of 4.0.4, I was looking forward to the single gesture notifications.
Not alot of new features really, certainly when you consider it has supposed to have been in development since last September. No Mobile Bravia Engine which is a shame.
DLNA Function? I thought this had DLNA?
I don't know. I stopped trying to understand them since I think they don't really know what they're doing. Nevertheless, the changelog seems a little bit narrow and is only available on GB site (Portuguese and French sites haven't) so I hope the performance enhancements have a little bit more to add to it. Are you able to download it? I'm not.

I so didn't expect that! I picked this because I'd be able to change to a custom rom once Sony Ericsson left it behind.
I do want to try an overclock kernel soon though :S

A really great news!!! I want the update very much, SE please release it before 2012
That would be quite unlikely since they just released the 2.3.4 update.
Awesome. I gotta say that I wasn't really sure if the phones could support it, but I guess they can.
Love the way they've made the hardware pretty much the same across the Xperia line, so they can get updates out faster.
Do you think the hardware accelerated GUI in ICS will eliminate all stuttering on android phones -ours in particular?
I know it's not much on the Xperia line, especially the Mini, which I have, but if it can get rid of it all together, it'd be nice.
Good news I hope we'll have release dates soon.
wow! This what what we all waiting for. Hope it'll be released very soon!

On a cheap phone like this? Its even smoother than any dual core phone ive ever tried, well, except for the S2. It never stutters or lags, even when im playing with my emulators
Mini has lag problem in the touchscreen.
I hope that they can solve it with 2.3.5. o ICS.

cant wait for ICS & cm9
Has anyone read an actual date yet? I heard in Jan. I saw ICS on the new Nexus and it looks awesome!
Not sure a solid date, but Asus said it would be in January. Of course, Google had a hard time predicting updates to its Nexus devices, and kept missing dates for updating the OS on its older phones. Hell, they originally said the Nexus One would be updated to ICS, but then said it wouldn't.
If Google can't predict it than I would take any announcement as an approximation. However, I think the prime will be updated soon. I bet it already works and is ready they just did not want to risk shipping with the new OS.
ICS is great though. I have it running in a virtual machine and it is very nice.

A lot of UI and feature additions, but performance and battery usage get a good boost. You can really see this in a Virtual Machine. Gingerbread runs horrible and Honeycomb is almost unusable, but ICS is smooth like butter.

It has a whole bunch of new UI tweaks, from the multi-tasking (I guess you can swipe left and it shuts down the program), to the notifications pane, it provides more information in bigger panels, and a settings option in the notification panel as well. I'd imagine more widgets as well. I also read somewhere it runs much smoother and uses less memory than Gingerbread, just to name a couple things off the top of my head.
being that they're running test builds on it internally already, i can see it happening sometime in jan

what's you virtual machine setup? is it difficult to set it up? I'd like to give it a try too, I've tried the ICS virtualbox thing, it was still laggy everywhere.
Hopefully, when they're talking about updating tablets "in the weeks ahead", they're talking about the TP.

I use the AVD (android virtual device) that's part of the SDK. Its much easier than setting up a real virtual machine since you would have to compile android from source, and it works well enough to test drive. My main goal was to try and register my avd as a device in the Google Market so I could get some 10 cents apps that were not compatible with my phone but would be with the Prime; however, I ran into snags getting the Android Market working, so I decided it was not worth the time to get a couple of 10 cent apps.
You can get more information here:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
http://www.abctrick.com/2011/10/complete-guide-about-how-to-run-android.html
It can sound complicated, but it not really. Once you have the SDK, you can create a virtual device and you are good to go. It will lack all the Google apps, but there is a way to get them working with some effort. I just did not have the time.
The first tablet to get CM9 will be the G-Tab 10.1 and it's expected fairly soon. Steve Kondik, the founder of CyanogenMod, is now a Samsung employee.

This is little offtopic, But it's shows that ICS will make Prime faster.
HC isn't so good and have its performance problems, but with Tegra3 its seems to perform well regarding the reviews that been made. So I am pretty excited about how good and fast it will be with ICS.
XOOM have got a alpha rom, and the quote is from The Verge
" but the good news is that early indications show that Ice Cream Sandwich is showing much better performance on the Xoom than Honeycomb did"
http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/16/...-android-4-0-3-install-as-google-adds-code-to
Worry about getting the Prime first.
According to Asus Singapore, the device will be released on 2nd week of January for us (yeah, sad us ) but it will come with ICS preinstalled. That might be a gauge as to when ICS might be released as an update.

do you have a link or something to verify this?
if it's accurate, ICS should hit all TF201 devices essentially at the same time, so super early jan/late dec would be pretty sweet, as the less time i have to spend with ****ty ****ty ****ty HC the better.
Here.
Hi all, each individual country will have different shipment date of the products and thus for SG, based on latest schedule, stocks will be available in Jan 2012. In addition, the Eee Pad Transformer Prime for SG will be in Ice Cream sandwich which customers do not need to do FOTA update. Thanks for your kind understanding.

I dont really understand Sony's policy about software , you're creating a new phone which relaesed in feb 2012 and the most current software is ice cream sandwich and the phone comes with gingerbread , it sounds like you creating a high end notebook and it comes with vista ,

I totally get what you say, but you don't want to wait for ages to put an outdated but optimized OS on your phone? I hope for some BETA tester ROM release from Sony on Xperia S forum as well.
I'm not sure we have to wait all that much longer...
They said it can be end of March/early April, I would assume they would try and release it around then, or at least that beta you speak of. I don't think Sony wants to adopt SE's update reputation, so I would hope they would release it around when they said they will release it.
Jelly Bean is in the works, sure, but it's all down to rumors at the moment to when it will be actually released. If we are one update behind for awhile, I don't really care as long as it's optimized for the phone, and not some half-baked, rushed OS port.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/28/android-5-release-date-jelly-bean_n_1306952.html
I will say that coming from a Nexus S which was running CM9 (ICS), the interface Sony has put on top of Gingerbread does a great job. I thought I'd hate taking the step back but other than a few little bits, it's not that big of a difference. Things like the themed progress bars and buttons really remove some of the ugliness that GB still had.
Don't get me wrong, I am VERY excited about ICS on this device but I don't miss ICS as much as I thought I would. I can certainly hold on for a few weeks.

For the general public, beta roms with problems can cause much more damage reputation-wise (aka "this phone sucks, it crashes all the time lol").
Also, I like how Asus has pushed fast ICS releases for the Transformer, but it does not yet have the stability of the previous HC version. Picking up your tablet/phone for a 3 minutes read and seeing it reboot spontaneously is not that great
So I prefer Sony to be a bit late and get a good ICS release at the first try. And when it comes to the Arc/Arc S, we will know the XPS version will be close

What I would be suggesting is for them to work harder to hit the market at a right time with fully optimized upgrade. If they don't want loss of customer like what they did back in X10 time, they need to still work faster and base on 2011 model upgrade and what we saw, they are on a right track.

How many brands have upgraded their lineup to ICS so far "at a right time and fully optimized"? If Sony delivers an upgrade before end of Q2 they're still in a comparable time with other brands unless all the others suddenly deliver it in the following 1-2 months, because so far only Samsung (that is the biggest Android manufacturer at the moment) is barely pointing to an imminent SGS2 upgrade (based on rumors, not even officially yet).

Here's your choice.
1.Be the first that has ICS.
2.Wait 2 more months and get a fully optimised ICS, totally optimised for your phone. That probably runs better than a HTC or Samsung on ICS with the same specs.
btw ICS isn't a super drastic update or something, you're acting like it's the difference between Window 3.11 and Windows 7.

Htc have already released ics for their sensation phones, also alot of manufacturers would have phones released next month with ics onboard.
I'm not buying the Xperia S until the ics update comes out, it just doesn't feel right to spend $600+ aud on a high end phone that comes with a 1.5 yrs old os that my current phone is running. If ics doesn't come out by april. I'm buying a new phone from the other manufacturers which does have ics.

It is (probably more like xp to windows 7), just hw acceleration and support for the google chrome browser is reason enough for the upgrade.
ICS is the only reason I am upgrading from my n1
Well, thanks for all the comments up there ^^^.
I did the ICS upgrade that ZD did in arc board and have it on my arc and it was based on Vanilla ICS. I got the best battery and performance I have ever got on any android phone (owned 4 so far)
Second, optimization with Sony won't be there ever. While I agree there are lots of work with custom UI and setting and adding extra stuff that Sony does't with their on-top of OS thing, but if you pay attention, the OS on Xperia S 2.3.7 that should be optimized, its not even close to being optimized. Battery is like hell, I got rid of all the junk apps (bascially everything) and have nothing to run live, plus battery of this phone is bigger that arc (yes, screen is larger as well) but still not close even to arc.
I like to be optimist about this situation, but I was more hoping for a Beta version so maybe our beloved developers could make something out of it.
You guys don't worry, I won't be waiting for Sony to release its optimized ICS since I really don't care about the UI.
I hope I didn't go over board since we are all here to have fun.

You mean the Sensation ICS update officially released only in a couple of countries with bugs as idiot as links not opening in the browser?
If your priority is having ICS and Jelly Bean when released ASAP your only real option is a Nexus Galaxy. As of today Android is still a train wreck when it comes to OEM updates...
you people should look at SGSII forums.People are complaining about the rushed ICS official update.
Now there is no official JB update for xperia mini pro.......

JB works just fine on the unofficial CM10 by FXP too... And the official CM10 would be coming soon
2011 series wasn't even sure on ics update (which, btw came out 3 months ago, not decades). The official statement that they wouldn't get jb update came out months ago.
Tbh I don't understand why people are so avid on updates, os improvement doesn't mean your phone will work better (especially if it isn't designed for certain technical specs).
As a matter of fact no ics rom performs, lasts as much as gb ones, just the same way a pentium I 133 with 10gig hd can't run win7....
So maybe it's just me, but i really don't get what the fuss is about, not to reach the point of a petition at least.
Sony as of Q4 2011 sold 32,597,500 units (only smartphones, this does not include ps3, sony music etc). A good developer here on xda reaches on average 5 to 6.000 thanks for a modded rom, assuming there are many ungreatful people out there let's double it, that's still 10.000 times short than the market share....why would they care?
Whatever the case is, if an official version doesn't come out someone will port it and there still will be enough to play around with until our phones will eventually be replaced by newer ones
I like but ................

I respect your thinking but if the device is capable of running the software then why the company is not developing the update if no update then they should give at least the Pure Android OS Software without their customization or any thing extra with all the drivers and kernel. or they may supply the appropriate drivers for the other developers like FXP to support their devices unofficially in the background.
The x mini pro is capable to runing JB ? U must be kiding

2011 series wasn't even sure on ics update (which, btw came out 3 months ago, not decades). The official statement that they wouldn't get jb update came out months ago.
Tbh I don't understand why people are so avid on updates, os improvement doesn't mean your phone will work better (especially if it isn't designed for certain technical specs)

+1. Either stop whining or get a life guys(and a new phone too!)
It's all their marketing trick.. if they give jb update to 2011 devices, they think that people will not go for the new devices, instead they will go for 2011 devices with less price and comparable hardware..

Hey, I just found out that Sony wont provide us with a Jellybean update:
http://blogs.sonymobile.com/product...rades-jelly-bean-for-2012-xperia-smartphones/
This is really bad, because they promised 18 months of updates, and thats one of the main reasons why I did buy this phone, so no more Sony phones for me after this phone.
Sad
hate sony!:banghead:
i don't see the problem... why not use the JB custom roms?
I love PAC
seriously?
They said they would support us at least 18/24 months not up to
Guess custom ones will have to do.

I found it not surprising for Sony doing that. They're late to the game now even for flagship devices.
Most of consumers not even want the update or know about it, only us screaming and crying is not enough force. And most of consumers will screaming and crying with update broke their device so rom need to be bug free to release, it cost a lot sop they dont bother.
I personal think Sony should have 'for experimental testing only' rom release without any warranty when they can not release the official one, I'm sure it take much less effort and can satisfy the community at good-enough level.

not expect Xperia 2011 to 4.1 but still disappointed with sony
Yes it sucks... no official JB for all 2011 devices
will xs get JB?
It's a flagship one.
Sony Mobile has this morning confirmed that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for its new Xperia devices (Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V) will start to receive the update from the middle of Q1 2013. Sony Xperia devices that launched earlier this year including the Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia J will be upgraded to Android 4.1 in “due course”. Looks like Xperia miro, Xperia tipo, Xperia tipo dual, Xperia sola and Xperia U users are excluded.
We suspect that the JB launch for the other 2012 Xperia models could take as long as early Q2 2013, given that no concrete information has been given. It’s hard not to commend Sony Mobile for updating many of its mid-range handsets along with their higher-end models. However, Xperia sola and Xperia U owners will rightfully be arguing why they won’t be seeing the update. It’s certainly not a question of hardware specification.

Well, the problem is that unlocked bootloader is an obligatory requirement for using JB custom ROMs. The point of expecting official JB from SONY is because devs. could get official drivers too, so they could cook ROMs for locked and unlocked bootloaders... Or at least that's what I think. There are some people who just can't or don't want to unlock the bootloader, one of them is me.
The reason why I bought a Ray is because I'm (somehow) a SONY fan. In fact, I was going to buy Neo but in the SONY store in my city they didn't have it in stock anymore, so I liked Ray and I got it. Their handsets are beautiful and reliable on their performance. A friend of mine has a Galaxy Ace and that phone is terrible, he has problems with his modem in his house, the phone doesn't connect to it (my Ray does without problems). Plus, no ICS ROMS for it. My business partner has a Samsung Galaxy SII and that piece of s**t is busted, it shows that is charging battery when the phone isn't even plugged! And it doesn't last more than 5 hours...
SONY (and SE) phones have never gave me that kind of problems. But yeah, it's really lame not getting JB, I guess SONY devs weren't smart enough to make project butter to work fine in 2011 line, or it's because all the damn bloatware they want to push affected the performance at the point the phone was a total slowpoke.Or, it's a lame strategy, getting ride of your current device to get a 2012, or even a 2013 one. Whatever is the reason, this is a bad new and a low move from SONY.
Personally, I was going to get Xperia V, but with the rumored prototypes (Odin and Yuga) I'd rather to wait, my Ray still has so much to give and when I get a new phone I want to feel I'm getting a real big upgrade.
Or I dunno, maybe the next Nexus isn't from Samsung anymore... I'd give it a chance
Doesn't matter.... its like we are sticking with a 1ghz phone for a long time since there a cheap dual core phones out there... so I guess its okay and who cares about jb on a 3.3 inch phone

The problem is that custom rom cookers don't have the latest libs for the HDMI and camera, for example, so they can't get them to work properly or at all. And while Sony has released all the libs for the Xperia S to the custom community, they won't do that for the Xperia 2011 line. So, no official nor unofficial solution for getting a 100% usable JB, though the handsets are fully capable of running it even better than ICS.
It's no possible for devs export it from XS?
I think XS will have jellybean or not?
