[Q] I9300 not charging, ROM related issue non hardware fault - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Morning all.
I have an issue were my battery won't charge even though its plunged into stock charger stock USB cable (Samsung)
I have tried charge control app. But still same results with or without the app. Or trying different charging currents.
I have been trying to search why this is happening. But frustration is setting in thus my post.
Any bodies got any ideas or directions I could try to help find why the phn won't charge.
To try explain a bit more, if I unplug the USB cable and plug it back in - come back and check battery level a few minutes later if - if the battery level is not changed - unplug / plug back in........... Come back in a few check battery lvl if its increased leave the phn plugged in and the phn charges.
But like now for instance the phn was plugged in overnight battery lvl was still at 45% this morning. Unplugged / plugged back in.... charging.... 50% but since typing this post ..battery lvl is back to 45%.
Its most frustrating as its my business phn and it needs to be 100% in the morning...
Problem was not here with ICS.. But ever since Samsung update to jelly been I've had this problem for months.
Then decided to try tamasek ROM and kernel with optimized battery usage.. Still same issue.
Pls help..

Battery Does Not Charge

Guys, I m having a serious problem from the last week ... whenever i charge my galaxy s 2 ... all it does is get heated up ... but not even one percent of the battery gets charged .. but it charges only wen i switch off the mobile
i m on android 2.3.6
baseband version DDKL1
PLS HELP !
Try to recalibrate your battery using recovery menu or 3rd party app from the market.
I'd also recommend upgrading to 4.0.3 via Kies.
are you trying to recharge it with usb or mains?
First thing; don't try and 'calibrate' your battery using any app, the recovery menu or any voodoo crap you might read on here. It's just not possible. It's a nonsense. Best you can do is charge the battery to 100%, remove it for a minute, put it back in the phone & enjoy so far as that is concerned.
Waza is on the right path. If that's happening when it's connected to charger, you probably have a problem with the battery in all likelihood (or maybe even the charging circuitry). I'd get a new battery & see how that goes in the first instance, if it does end up being something 'worse' (USB/charging circuitry), at worst you'll have a spare battery for when you get it repaired & at best you'll fix the problem.
As Waza alluded, if it's happening on USB charge, that's not necessarily unusual if you're using the phone - whatever you're doing with the phone is using more juice than the rate of charge, also the phone will tend to get hot if you do anything more than light use while it's on either AC or USB charge.
i have upgraded it to 4.0.3
and i m looking forward for the battery life ...
and yes it happens with both mains and usb
anyways ty guyz

[q] major battery issue

Hey Guys and Gals
This morning my phone was completely drained so i plugged it into the wall plug to charge up. However it did not turn on and begin charging until i did a battery pull.
When it began charging, there was the little yellow triangle (normally there when my device has been drained). A couple of minutes after, the battery began charging BUT it was nearly full
So i switched on the device, went to Applications>Settings>About Phone>Status
There the battery read 96% and charging from AC. When i unplugged it, the numbers began literally jumping backwards and the phone died within two minutes.
I tried charging again and had to do a battery pull again. For good measure, i did a factory reset but the issue was there still, only, when it is plugged in, the battery slowly DECREASES :S maybe like 1% every 2 minutes.
Can someone please help me and let me know if it is a battery issue or a phone hardware issue itself?
Im running Gingerbread btw (downgraded from ICS about 3 weeks now because it sucked....and i missed GB lol)

Easiest way to check is to use another battery in your phone and/or to test your battery in another phone.
So you only need to find someone with a compatible phone/battery.
Or go to a store and ask for help.
Good luck !
Or use a volt meter to test if your battery is dead ie <3.7, the s 2 tends to exaggerate the value more often than shrink the percentage of battery, but your case is a bit extreme, it might have to do from going from ics to gb, don't take my word but apparently its bad to downgrade from ics to gb

Battery problem?

Hi all,
I've been having a wierd problem with my gs2 battery recently. It keeps on saying that it's charging however the battery is never increasing, it actually starts to decrease even though it says it is charging. It occasionally likes to turn on and off automatically. Recently, it has only charged when the battery is on 0%, I usually leave my phone charging overnight and when I can get the charger to work, I wake up and it says 100% but really, when I turn it on it says 85% or significantly lower. Sometimes, like now, it decides to work whilst it's on but this is not always the case, that is why I am not sure if it's a port problem. I have tried different chargers and some decide to charge the phone but continously turn on and off (on the off screen, battery charging picture appears and then reloads etc.), others don't work at all. I am not using a stock battery however my stock battery charges okay but is very weak (only last like 2-3hrs even when I'm not using it) and the current one lasts a long time once I nanage to get it to 100%. I have tried different online solutions such as taking the battery out for 10 secs, put phone on charge then put battey back in etc . and it hasn't worked. There have been times where the battery has crashed from 70%+ to 8% whilst it's off which seems wierd. I have attached some battery status images. Has anyone had this issue before? I would really appreciate any help or solutions you know that may work.
Replace battery first, if problem persists replace USB board/port (replacing battery should fix it though) - KeithRoss39 has a guide in General (search for 'Replace USB charger board') which will enable you to do it yourself quickly/easily/cheaply if replacing battery doesn't fix it.

Z2 Battery will not charge to 100 %

Hi there anyone have any ideas been using my Z2 since last Friday and yesterday for some reason the device will not charge to 100 % only goes up to 96%
I have tried a different charger and still get the same problem , Also downloaded Sony pc companion software and run the repair tool to see if it resolves the issue and still same problem
Try discharge battery to 1-2% (some advise even till auto-off device) and then fully charge with bundled charger.
Mine does the same thing, don't worry.
The reason this happens is that once your battery is at 100%, it stops charging automatically, and the device waits for it to get down to 99% before starting to charge again.
Is it possible that you just keep catching it at 99%?
Mine will charge about 1% every four minutes until it hits 99%. Then that last one percent takes a couple of hours. This is according to the power/percent list in gsam. It's done it consistently from day 2. Day 1 it failed to charge beyond 80% overnight.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
thanks for your help I will try a full discharge and then try charging it and see how it goes
Finally battery is flat the phone turned off , charging it now with the sony charger which came with the z2 , will let you know what happens
I did a live chat with sony and they say the device is faulty and needs to be repaired
I have rang my network provider and they will send me a new z2
96% charge and wont charge no more!!
would really like to understand what is the solution to the problem.
This is really annoying . Please need all possible inputs.
Do you think its a product issue and needs to be replaced with a new piece.
Mine charges, but...
My Z2 will charge to 100%, but after it gets to 95% the screen turns on, and stays on.
If I push the power button on the phone to turn the screen off, the screen will turn off for between 0.5-1.5 seconds, and then turn itself back on.
I have gone through quite a few settings on my phone and can't find anything that might affect this other than perhaps "Night Mode" - which I have disabled.
Please help, my provider refuses to replace my phone even though I got it brand new from them and it's only 21 days old... I do love the phone, I just hate this issue - I can't leave it charging over night, or run the risk of having the phone over heat (it happened once, this is how I first found out about the problem, I had to leave the phone off with a fan on it for a good hour before it was cool to the touch again.)
@The Midnighter
I think you have a faulty unit, mine (2nd one) doesn't even overheat unless I have severe CPU/GPU intensive apps running. Never had a charging problem either... Get it replaced mate
I always charge the phone power off, when it is full charged I get the vibra notification and the phone is 100%.

I forgot to mention - you reminded me.
When I leave my phone off and plugged in, it will charge to 100% - however I have to do a HARD RESET every time I go to turn my phone back on, after turning it off. (Holding power and volume up) or it sticks on the "SONY" screen and will not advance.
Since xperia S there is a feature which helps battery keeping good condition
Its charge to 100% and turns charging off till 95%
Its all becouse integrated battery
This is not a bug or problem

It is indeed a problem, because the screen is staying on and causing my phone to over heat - it once over heated so badly because of this I had to leave the phone off for a very long time.
The phone doesnt charge at 100% and the magnetic charger not work

I have the exact problem. The phone work ok for a few days and then stop charging at 92% and the screen stay on. I plug the charger in the night and in the morning was only at 92% and hot, very hot.
A few days ago I bought a dock charger and an usb cable to plug in the magnetic lateral charging port. And with both chargers the phone shows the charge icon for a second and desapear for another second and repeat the loop.
I try everything in the software level. Restore the firmware using pccompanion and also flash the lollipop firmaware but the problem persist. Just not tried delete the battery stats because my phone is not rooted yet.

Did u manage to fix the problem? Or did anyone here manage to fix the battery charging issue? Mine charges to 78%, then sometime 85% then hard-reset - 91%. Cant charge anything above that! : <
There's no real fix, you can only hope a rollback to KitKat might help. See this lengthy forum post on the sony forums:
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z2/Lollipop-charging-bug/td-p/965384
Spanning from april until right now...
Mine only gets to 70-80% on an overnight charge.
Mine charges and discharges constantly, I try change the cable, the AC adapter, the usb on my computer, the micro usb port to magnetic... Always is the same.. and another times charges too good.
Some times charge to 99% and discharge to 98%.. so I disconnect and connect again and charges to 100%
Maybe it's a Lollipop .232 problem in some devices?
Hi! Same problem here, sometimes my phone doesn't charge to 100% and I have to unplug the charger and plug it in again to get 100%. I think it's pretty common, but if your phone only charges till a low percentages and just doesn't charge further, it might be so that the phone's afflicted with the Lollipop charging bug. We can only wait for Marshmallow then

[Q] Battery Wtf

So i just played with Custom ROMs to find the best for me...
But from one point my Phone f*cked up the battery detecting...
CM9 and CM9 detect the battery at 45% and then he Level instantly just drop to 0%...
I cant even restart my phone, so i guess the battery really went out...
So how can i fix, that the ROM would not detect it 45% but 3-4% ?
And let me fully chage my phone ?
Stock rom Always Detect it 100% and then randonly the phone shut down in random times (cuz it drops the level to 0%)
I've tried the "Fully-Charge, Fully-Discharge" But the ROM still detect the Battery wrong...
Even tried to delete the battery stats...
Any solution, or idea ?
I currently use CM with the built-in CM9 kernel...
I think its battery problem.use a new battery.ur prblm will be solved

How old is the battery? What charging cable are you using and what is the cable plugged into?
If the battery is more then a year old it could be 'tired' and not holding a charge correctly (trying another known good battery in your phone will determine this, as will trying your battery in another phone, and if it works well you may have more issues to deal with). If you got the phone second hand, you have no way of knowing the battery's history. Repeated overcharging is also not recommended, as well as leaving the battery in very hot places as it can damage the onboard circuitry in the battery.
Cheap aftermarket (non OEM) USB cables are not that great imo, they are generally not as well made and soon get loose connections, resulting in poor connectivity (charging with a bad cable can also damage the battery). Always use the original cable or a good quality aftermarket one, like Belkin.
Charging the phone from a USB port on a PC or laptop (and/or via a USB hub) is not as efficient as charging it directly from a wall mains USB adapter, because the power often gets interrupted. Ideally for the best charge you should turn the phone off and use a wall/mains socket USB lead, so as give a direct, constant, power supply to charge a battery. A typical full charge is done in two hours. If you charge this way and the battery still has issues buy a new one.

First of all, the Phone is manufactured in 11W41 (2011 Week #41) and the battery in 11W39 (2011 Week #39)
I use a tipical Micro USB charger which does not connect to the wall with USB but the cable directly integrated into the adapter...
And the phone's shipped official cable to charge throught my PC...
The battery worked fine before i forgot to delete battery stats and flashed a ROM...
After that, all ROM is getting fake battery data...
After using my phone i noticed:
-When the phone displays 70-80% charge, the battery actually have 10-15%
-When the battery reach 0% the phone not just jumps to 0% but the Phone shut down within a half second (as no more energy)
-When i charge it to 3-4% the phone show 80% again...
-So i can charge it to about 10 or max 15% when the OS detect 100% and does not charge it further more, which prevent me from properly re-calibrate the battery stats, cuz 10-15 will be always the max charge of the battery...
Now i'm looking for some kind of Mod / App that fake the Battery level to the OS (for example lock it to 5% and the OS continue to charge the battery) i know its dangerious cuz if i'm not aware i'll overcharge it and it will die permanently, but i have no better idea ATM...
Update: Sometimes after my phone dies from no remaining electron in the battery It displays 5% charge when i switch it on while connected to a charger (the only way i can switch it on) And starts to increase.. (5-6-7-8 etc..)
But sometimes it instantly jumps up to 70-80% if i think right when the screen switches of..
So i enabled "No-screen-off-whili-on-charger" and letit charging..
Will notice you about the result...

try reflash stock.ics ftf should fix this
Already tried, the Stock rom always showed 100% charge, and when the battery ran out, just powered off...
(Jumped from 100 to 0 instantly)
As i mentioned, in the reply you quoted, today it started charging from 0...
It went good, but somewhy, it just stopped at 26% and not a single volt went into the Battery...
As i Pulled out the Cable, the indicator jumped to 100 instantly...
Can you link several stock ROMs ?
I've tried with the 4.0.4 Android
but maybe the 2.3 can still work with it...

but i think theres some HW damage. even if not rhe battery maybe some config chip is broken or whatever on the board. normally flashing a stock.ics.ftf resloves all software issues, as its resets all stuff to factory..
anyway, here u can find links to other android versions: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Andro...y-Bean-ICS-Ice-Cream-Sandwich-and/td-p/154389
