There is a WiFi antenna gate issue in the upper left hand corner of the device. I would also like to announce HTC dev still works as of 2:30PM CST for at&t models.
Also there may be a signal issue for cellular but I can't confirm yet. Will update

Did you turn on "Best Wi-Fi Performance" in the Advanced Wi-Fi settings? It comes off by default. That made all the difference on mine. Though I am using a case...
I'm having cell data issues too. A lot of 'server not found' in various apps.
Haven't had any connectivity issues at all so far. Doing better than my Nexus 4 in fact. Why is this being called "Antenna gate" if it isn't widespread?

I found that I had a higher signal before flashing a European Rom but when I looked at the signal strength both in the android status screen and using a signal app with both my personal and work HTC ones side by side they were both -85 but my work one still on the att rom showed an extra signal bar.

I took the -gate reference as tongue-in-cheek and partially toward the Gap Gate thread.

I agree and it's ridiculous..
We have a "Gap Gate" thread and now an "Antenna Gate" thread..
I guess it's an attention grabbing move.
What's next?
Screen Gate, Aluminum Gate, LTE Gate, Blink Feed Gate, Home Button Gate, Camera Gate.
I think I will just stop reading any thread that has "Gate" anywhere in the title.

Sorry for offending you guys. Turns out at&t is doing tower work in my area. And the Wi-Fi thing is real bit goes away when you select that option an xda fellow was taking about. only data issue i had was with my plan. coming from an HSPA+ phone, i had to agree to a new LTE plan, which when first activated, was not going to take effect until the next billing cycle (4/29). I had to call again and have them start LTE service immediately.

I would imagine every new Note owner goes through a period where people comment on the size of the note. My daughter posted on Facebook, that "I'm out of control." My wife calls it a Pop Tart. I'd like to think they're all just a bit jealous that I can read ebooks and watch TV or movies without squinting.
Anyway, a few rookie questions if you wouldn't mind:
I'm running Only One on my ATT I717 and love it, but trying to learn about modems. Is there a tutorial?
Also, is there a good GPS progam? I had TomTom on my 3GS but doesn't look like it's offered for Android.
Thanks
I prefer Navigon for gps. Most feautures and best forming. 2 others to look at are Ndrive and Sygic. What do you need to know about modems? Not much to tell unless you are running the phone on T-mobile. Looks like you might be since you mentioned 3gs. If you do then this thread might get you started. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573568
Thanks. I had an IPhone 3GS with TomTom.
Is 4G the same as LTE on ATT.
There's a thread about boosting data speed and they refer to UCLE2, 5, etc. Does this apply to ATT, or only T-Mobile?
I've heard a bit about Navigon and it seems solid but the reviews it gets don't seem all that reassuring for me to spend that kind of money. Google's navigation app has worked great for me and does more than enough. I've also used Waze. It's got a clean interface and nice traffic info plus it's free!

4G and LTE are totally different. 4G is an improved version of 3G. LTE is another technology. Not all areas have LTE.

If you have a data connection the Google is great. Waze looks ok but it needs data also and has all that social integration. Guessing this app is hard on the Note's battery. How does it run for you? If you want an offline gps app then you need to fork out the dough. No app is perfect for everyone and reviews are tough on paid gps apps. Navigon gets it done especially when you are in an area with no data.
I use Map Quest for gps works great and it's free.

Waze hasn't taxed my battery too bad but I can see how it would become a bit of a hog. True, I could do without the social integration as well but it isn't too bad. I've since resorted soley on the Google navigation app. I hear you about the offline capabilities, Navigon would be nice to have when data isn't available. I rarely don't have access to data so that hasn't posed much of a problem for me with gps. You're right, the choice definitely depends on the person.

Where ever I am around ppl I don't know or friends that havent seen my phone yet whenever I get it out the immediately ask if its a tablet or a phone...I'm kinda starting to get annoyed lol.
I was using Google maps walking navigation today...first time on this phone...on Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills. I know the accurancy is great (for whatever reason ICS is taking longer to get a lock), but I was stunned that the arrow was precisely where I was walking but the compass is crazy sensitive, looked like I was walking sideways at times.

no... i wish I live in really rural area not may folks around at all with smartphones anyway.
I was dismayed to see HTC's lackadaisical approach to update though I'm not sure how Samsung's track record matches up.
I'd hate to switch just for the lure of something different only to find it was a step backward.
Oh I see. The thing that bugs me the most on this phone is the lack of proper multitasking. That's about my only issue and it is big enough that I would consider switching. Before you decide, try using touchwiz on a floor model first because it can be rather clunky to use after using touch. I use a Samsung phone for work and an HTC for personal and still have to remind myself that each phone does things differently everyday.

I've been struggling with weak wifi since I bought my evo near launch. Often the signal would suggest maximum strength, but still fail to provide throughput. I even tried switching to only one band instead of auto (2.5ghz), but this did not work.
I stumbled across this page http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/458225 and decided to give it a try. The basic premise of the post is that the contacts under the back cover don't make a solid connection, interfering with wifi.
I gave it a shot since it was easy. I gently pried the contact up just a bit and replaced the cover.
After one week of trials, my wifi has been solid. For me, this is what the problem seems to have been. It also worked for a close friend who was having the same issue.
If you do the fix, don't pry hard or you'll bend the tab to far. I used a needle and moved it just barely. This is not a placebo effect. According to wifi analyzer my signal has improved a great deal. Regardless, it fixed my problems. Just FYI....
And if this has been posted, sorry. I did search first but did not see a similar post.

Only thing i could think of is you didn't solder it good enough and it's not making a connection to the motherboard or your back cover is not making a good contact. When i had one of mine reattached professionally it instantly started picking up lte and ehrpd again like a champ.

my touch screen about a third the way from the bottom isn't working. It's where the 4 5 and 6 phone buttons are. If I move an app icon around it always drops because it things my finger pulled away right at the same points. It's a straight line from left to right while holding phone in portrait position. I was googling and saw mention of the "digitizer". I guess that's the lingo for "touch screen sensor". Looks like I'll be calling sprint and since I've had the phone for over a year I guess I'll pay the $55, but better than new phone cost.
I just got S4 2 days ago I sitll have 12 days to exchange it for a new one not refurb.
I had iphone 5 before gave it to my mom and I live in NYC today when I was coming back from Queens to Brooklyn I would be stuck with 1 bar in a lot of places where before I had 2-3
call quality and everything is perfect however I can see that I don't get the same service as I did before.
I don't know if it helps much I did few sreenshots. On these 2 I don't 1 bar but with bar I think it's somewhere around -111 something very close to that I don't remember exact numbers.
How can I test better? someone help me please , like maybe some sort of app to test it out in various places?

The signal strength you are seeing is related to the LTE tower you are currently connected to. Use an app called "signal check lite", download it from the app store, it will show you your actual CDMA signal strength.
Advanced signal status is another good one to check as well. But your are right, -111 is about 1 bar. -120 is about as bad as it can get before dropping to nothing. -60ish is perfect but you will rarely see that on a Samsung device unless you actually climb the tower. Best I usually see on my s4, is mid 90s which is awful in my book compared to the mid 80s I get in the same location on my htc rezound. So you aren't alone out here. If there is another phone you like, I would get it. Wish I could still dump mine. I miss constant AND FAAAAST 4g on my Rez. :banghead:
