Why can't I send mms to iphone? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having issues sending mms from my S3 to my cousin's iphone.
It sends ok but they never receive it.
If I send the same mms to another android phone, they receive it no problem.
Any idea why ?

Might not be your issue. Could be how the carrier or the iphone.

It's most likely due to your APN settings - regarding your MMS configuration there.
Lookup what the values should be with your telco provider, and then enter them in.
On your Galaxy S3, it's under:
System Settings > More settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

The APN settings are correct as I can send to other android phones no problem.
Maybe it's an iphone issue?
Sent from my SG3

They dont like eachother ! :s I think mms is way beyond iphone skills :/
Just Kidding ... check if iphone has data enabled and also re-check your apn settings!
could also be the file your're sending to the iphone

i'm also having this problem with my sprint touch pro. i can't receive pic mail. it doesnt come to my phone. it takes hours. people have to let me know in advance that they sent me a pic mail and then i have to hit send receive to view the pics. very annoying. i called sprint and they tried trouble shooting with me which did not help me in anyway. they even removed the pic mail from my account and reinstated it. still no luck. any advice great ppl of xda?
I am having a similar problem with my Verizon Touch Pro, I receive pic/video messages fine If I am only connected to Verizon's data network, but if I am connected to WiFi it will not send or receive Pic or Video messages, text messages seem to work fine though. Any Ideas??
mms will not work unless connected to the verizon server
MMS is a data transfer from the Verizon network. if you are connected to wifi your phone's data connection is not looking for an internet connection, therefore will not request data packets (or anything else waiting on the verizon servers for you ie MMS). So, you would have to be connected to the data service in order for your phone to query for the waiting data packets.

Ok, that makes sense for RECEIVING, but why does it fail when SENDING, shouldn't it automatically connect to the Verizon Network to send if that is the case? Is there a registry tweak or change to change this?

[Q] AT&T MMS issues

Hi all,
I want to preface this by saying I've searched the forums, and have not been able to find my specific circumstance addressed. I'm having a problem where I can receive MMS just fine, but I cannot send any MMS from my Galaxy S2 on KE7 with KE4 modem. I'm using AT&T in the USA, and came from an iPhone 3GS. I'm still on the iPhone unlimited data plan (haven't gotten around to switching to a 4G plan yet). MMS always worked just fine on my iPhone, both ways.
When I go to send an MMS, it just keeps trying to send the message forever. I initially see some data activity in the status bar, but it quits after about 5-6 seconds. The message just sits trying to send unless I delete it manually.
Anyone know why this would be occurring? Help is greatly appreciated!

I am having the exact same problem, but I can't even get receiving mms to work. The message comes through but fails to download. I have tried multiple apn settings but nothing works.
Just curious, but are you guys using wifi when trying to send or receive the mms? Data HAS to be on for mms to work, if I'm not mistaken..

Yes I have tried sending over both wifi and 3g with no luck.

I've tried using with WiFi and without...neither one works. Again, I can receive just fine, just not send.
Here I think is your answer.
If you say for example take a picture or video and then within the Camera app try and send either one as a Message, the MMS will fail IF you have the Camera app set to save to Memory Card.
If you change the Camera app to save to phone, then you can take a 8 MP picture and send it as a MMS from the camera app and it will resize and send.
I have mine set to save to memory card, so after you take a pic, you have to go into Gallery and find the picture, then send the exact same 8MP shot as a Message and this time the GS2 will correctly resize and send it.
I'd say its some bug having to do with saving pictures and video to the memory card, but the above way will get you a MMS to send.
Thanks for the info, but I'm pretty sure that's not my problem. I don't even have an external SD card on my phone, and when I go to the Camera options to change storage location, it's greyed out (can't change it), I assume because I have no other option since I don't have an external SD card installed.
Also, when I have tried sending pics via MMS, Handcent will resize the pic, but it still won't send it. BTW, I have tried sending MMS with the stock messaging app, and that doesn't work either...just in case anyone thought it might be Handcent with the problem.
Under Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Network Mode, do you have WCDMA Ony checked, or GSM/WCDMA (Auto Mode) checked?
I found that if I had WCDMA Only checked, I couldn't get MMS messages to work consistently at all.
I have Auto Mode checked.
bump....need MMS to work. help?
check your MMS message center settings. You can access it within the MMS app>menu>settings.
I had this exact same problem when I updated my modem and found out the reason I couldn't send messages because the Message Center phone number was removed.
The correct one for AT&T is +1312349810. Make sure to put the + there.
Edit: NM sounds like your prob is mms only. I have had this problem with my old vibrant galaxy S1 too. The problem was because of the way phone numbers were formatted. For what it's worth I fixed that problem by editing the contact so that their phone numbers are exactly 10 consecutive digits (3 digit area code + the number) without any hyphens or marks ie: 2382819391. No leading 1's, etc. Not sure why it happens but seems to fix it for me.
I haven't had this issue with my SGS2 though.

MMS over WIFI

Im guessing the stock Photon does not currently support MMS over WIFI bc i havent seen it work yet. just curious bc i like being able to send back and forth when im offshore and only have WIFI around for connection back to land.
I was able to run this on my EVO running CM7, just curious.
Have you tried TEXTFREE?
I'm not able to get my MMS to work over wifi. I'm in Canada and have data turned off. All I use is wifi. It doesn't seem to work.
Yup, no MMS over Wifi here.
this is true and a big fail IMHO....I hate this stupid omission
i had the same issue on my EVO as well
This isn't really a phone specific limitation. No phone will send MMS over WiFI using your phone number, this is due to how the carrier handles MMS. You could work around this limitation by sending the MMS to the MMS service corresponding Email address. They differ by carrier (Sprint's is [email protected], replace PTN with the 10 digit phone number you wish to send the MMS message to) If you are unsure of the email address just have the person you are trying to MMS send you a MMS to your email that you will be using, then just hit reply and attach your picture. (there are certain file size limitations so watch out here)

Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
i was able to send messages over wifi with my EVO 4G but not now....this is a major fail...to me it's like carriers try to find ways to nickle and dime you by not letting this happen to raise fees....wtf

i had a treo pro. i was able to send and receive mms over wifi. i just had to reboot and do it first. none the less, it still worked. ive been in canada for 6 months. i dont use data. i only use wifi. ive only had the photon for about a month now.
I'm going to bump this just to see if any one knows of an app or figured anything out? The only work around I have figured out is, log into sprints website and view them through your browser. it sucks to do it that way but, at least u can get them.

[Q] Is anyone else unable to send pictures in their text messages?

Whenever I send a picture in a mms it spends a long time "queued for sending" then it fails. I've verified my APN settings. Are other people able to send pictures with no problem?
i havent had this issue, try resetting your APN.
if the problem persists contact your mobile service provider

Hi , I've had that problem for a few weeks now, despite that I have a separate APN set up solely for MMS (read somewhere sometime agao that its best to have 2 APNs, one with all of the necessary settings for intenet etc and then one optimised for MMS, keeping the the internet one tagged as your main live/enabled APN, the phone will still se the MMS apparently). I've checked my settings, and nothing has changed since when I was last able to send them, however I have to admit I don't use MMS very often and I can't really remember for sure exactly when I was last able to send an MMS successfully.

Oh really? I read that having more than one APN screws it up and it's best just to have the one.
From here:
When you set up the APN that you have posted in your question make sure you save it & erase all the other APNs that could be showing

MMS and APN Settings

Since receiving my Redmi Note 3, I've been very happy with the phone and software, however I have not been able to receive multimedia messages, is this due to alternate APN settings?, I'm on Australia Woolworths network 4G telstra.
However these settings are default normal telstra, would this be the reason or is it something else? Cheers
Today I was trying to download a MMS but wasn't able to. I modify APN but still nothing.
Then I had the brilliant idea to change the setting to "Prefer 3G" and it worked. Downloaded the MMS without a problem.

Maybe a bug. But you don't have to keep the 3G. You just have to change to 3G to download the MMS and change back to 4G after that.
I'm with Aldi Mobile, and I can't send MMS, despite configuring the settings they provide on their website. Are you guys able to send MMS at all? I've tried both 4G and 3G, but no luck. I'm running the latest stable global ROM.
Oh, and I'm afraid I don't know if I can receive MMS sorry....
Edit: OK, I can send and receive via the Xiaomi built-in Messaging app (with 4G). Google Messenger will not send MMS, but don't know about receiving.

Sorry peteski, I haven't had any luck with this. Even though I don't like it much, the built-in app does the job so that's what I've been using. If I ever get it working I'll make another post.

Yes you can that's where I found them. Aak google it will find them for sure
Hi Megafluffles, I've got the same phone, same carrier, but even with the Mi Message option on I can't send MMS. Did you ever find out how to get the stock messaging app up and running?
Ta, Nic
Sorry for the necroposting, I hope this info helps someone. For some reason it's very hard to come by.
On my Redmi Pro it looks like this: Settings -> SIM and mobile networks, but not APN settings! Instead, somewhere at the very bottom there is an option to "Always receive MMS (even if mobile internet is turned off)". Switch it on, and voila! The MMS service is working. When you turn it off, even if the APN settings are correct and your 3G-4G network is working perfectly, your MMS "can't be sent at the moment". Good luck trying it out!
I'm using the latest stable MIUI global and the default messaging app, nothing fancy.
