Temp phone for JTAG - HTC Droid DNA

I'm going to send my phone put for JTAG soon, and I need a replacement phone. All I have is a T-Mobile sensation 4g, as the DNA is my first Verizon phone. The LTE SIM won't fit into the sensation. Any one have any suggestions?

You could buy a SIM adapter. However I am pretty sure the T-Mobile phone will not work on Verizon. The Verizon SIM is used to connect to the 4G network only. As far as I know, T-Mobile has not implemented LTE and T-Mobile phones cannot connect to LTE networks. Even if it did, it would not be setup to use Verizon's LTE frequency.

DUH! An adapter! Don't know why I didn't think of that. Thanks, that's probably what ill do. I figured LTE wouldn't work, and I didn't even plan on data working period. But I need to make calls and texts, so in hoping that works. The sensation is unlocked and rooted so in hoping it works

Even with an adapter, the T-mobile phone with a verizon sim won't work on Verizon. Verizon's network authenticates phones, and only phones that are in its database will work.

After a quick lookup, the Sensation will not work on Verizon. You can give it a try and see however it does not support the CDMA frequencies. This is a GSM phone only. I've attached a network spec and you can see it at the bottom of the picture. Also, Verizon does do authentication

My DNA is out for JTAG now. I picked up a relatively inexpensive RAZR HD on Craigslist for the duration. When I get the DNA back I'll just offload the HD back onto CL or on eBay for as much as I paid or more. Find a reasonably good deal and you won't lose, no big deal.

Gonna put a T-Moblie Monthly SIM in my Rezound to test it out

due to the globalocity of the Rez and my VZW contract ending in April, I have purchased a T-Mobile Monthly SIM card online and will be trying out the data/call quality/etc. The plan I am eyeballing is $30 a month for unlimited data/text and 100 minutes.
After much searching, I am expecting that when I put this sim card in, 2 things will happen:
1. the superior radio and leaked global rom will allow me to get HSPA+ speeds on TMO network, make calls, send SMS/MMS, dance, and be merry.
2. once I re-insert my Verizon SIM card, it will be as if I never put the TMO card in, and my plan (including unlimited data) will remain intact.
are these the proper assumptions?
That would be nice, but unfortunately the Rezound radios have (so far) been unable to utilize the tmobile frequencies. Until it is figured out (it has been deemed impossible as yet) you will only be able to use edge network. Calling, sms, mms, and data all work. But data will be stuck at edge network.
The stock global leak may take some tinkering to get all parts working. I recommend a gsm compatible rom, as that will prove the least amount of effort on your end to get up and running.
Fair warning: edge network is usable.. But going from 25mbps to 120kbps is not a fun transition. I'm doing it myself, presently. Awesome devs for the Rez are the only things keeping me from buying a new phone that I can't afford.
Also, just to elaborate on going backward, as long as you don't port your number over (as that would cancel your vzw plan), you will be able to clean flash a cdma rom (or restore a nandroid) to get back on the Verizon network. I have yet to find a rom that allows both modes with everything working just from swapping the sim.

Gotta love TMo getting shafted, or rather shafting themselves, by operating on such an odd frequency in the US

My HTC Droid DNA abroad

Just sharing my experience with this phone as a global phone.
I nabbed myself a DNA before going to study abroad in London. The Verizon plan was hell to pay so I suspended my account -- $15 per 3 months -- and got a new SIM from giffgaff. Giffgaff gives me unlimited UK texts, unlimited 200+ kilobyte/sec internet, and 250 mins calling for 12 pounds a month. ~$18).
Setup was easy -- literally pop in the new SIM. No calling Verizon or anything. Was ready to go immediately and have had zero problems on the UK network. Reception is great everywhere except underground but hey what can you do.
Definitely recommend the phone for global use!
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Good to know. While I have no travel plans in the future, being a life long Verizon subscriber I've never actually had a capable "world phone" before (I had to buy an absurdly overpriced pre-paid dumb phone last year since my TB didn't work in Spain) so it's nice to know I do now!
what type of network coverage do you get 2g 3g or 4g from them
The UK only has one LTE network right now (EE), and I doubt they're on the same bands as Vzw. So it'll be 3G.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
I'm actually unsure what it is. I think it's like AT&Ts fake 4g (not LTE). I've seen it say "E," "3G," and usually it says "H."
Giffgaff uses the same network as O2. Verizon's whole thing over here I believe is Vodafone

I thought the DNA didn't work internationally? Nearly got the Maxx instead of the DNA because amazon's comparison tool says the DNA doesn't work outside of the US/Canada.
Amazon is competely wrong then. It has gsm and cdma radios so it can work on any gsm network and it is already SIM unlock.

SIM unlocked now what?

Ok so now that I got my AT&T ONE unlocked, Which prepaid carrier has the best performing data and plays nice with our phones?
I'm thinking of getting out of my contract if I find a carrier that has decent performing data. But of course this could be a moot point, from what I heard AT&T's coming out with new prepaid plans.

Where did you get your unlock code? I'm in Canada with a Rogers Wireless HTC One and I'm limited with 1GB of data where I used to have 3GB with Virgin Mobile. I'm thing about going back to Virgin. I'm paying $70 a month with unlimited Canada wide, unlimited SMS/MMS and 1GB data is too much. I only need 200 minutes of talk time but I like a lot of data.

I live in Oklahoma where the only game in "town" is a small local cell pro user. They have the worst phone selection in the history of mankind....really..lol. I moved here a while ago and have been with Sprint so far but I roam out here at my house so it is finally time to make the switch. The cell provider is now offering the HTC deluxe which I understand is a DNA without the Verizon moniker. Does anyone know of development for this phone or can I use the dev work for the DNA? Thanx for the help......and right now I'm on meanbean with my EVO 4g LTE so I'm no newbie to the world of rooting and roms.

Basically you have to look into the htc deluxe for Radios/Ril cdma/ lte/gsm, then kernel, and software. Provider must have cdma in order to be porter to from DNA ....look like the HTC Butterfly is the match
Here more Info http://androidforums.com/droid-dna-all-things-root/728576-htc-deluxe-root.html
Yes, the carrier is cdma. They used to be in bed with sprint. Last march they split the sheets and climbed in bed with Verizon. I would go with Verizon but they do not have any native infrastructure here so I cannot even sign up with them....like I said, the only game in...uh.....town. the town I live in has al of 250 people and the closest city is only 50k.....nice to live out in the country but it does have its drawbacks.
And Thankyou for the link.....

Fellow Okie, I'm in OKC. Couldn't you drive into Enid and hook up with a Verizon store? Coverage looks good in your area. In any event, your local pro company is bouncing off of somebody's towers. I'd think that if you can find out who has the best towers in your neck of the woods, you could go into the nearest big city and get on their system.
Just a thought - You're living that dream, so you would know better. Good luck!
I meant to say provider, not pro company....lol. and yes, the only towers out here are owned by Pioneer. Sprint roams on them and Verizon uses them as an extended network. Att and tmo also have some stuff here but the the speeds are so slow. I cant sign up with Verizon because there is no Verizon owned towers here. I can't get Sprint until I'm in Enid, though they have their LTE up and running there....very vast when in town but can't even make a phone call when I'm at my house in Ringwood. So Pioneer is the only game here. Just been waiting for them to have a decent phone to make the switch. I hope the DNA development is compatible with this regional carrier version. I have been rooting and playing with different roms for years, will be unhappy if I will no longer be able to play with my phone.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Also, as of March 2012, Pioneer and Sprint went separate ways. Everything north of I40 and west of I35 is dead to sprint now. Been roaming ever since. Now Verizon uses Pioneers stuff for their extended network. By virtue of my address, I am unable to sign on with any carrier except Pioneer......so much for the American ideal of no monopolies...lol

I have a DLX with SU. The bootloader can be unlocked at htcdev. I tried to fastboot TWRP using the butterfly 920e version of TWRP, which did not work. So i tried the DNA version of TWRP and it worked.. Then i just flashed the su_busybox file and I'm rooted. I'm fairly sure the revone method will get you S OFF,, I haven't done it yet,, because the 4.2 software update is just around the corner. But in my opinon,, HTC DLX users should follow DNA methods, other than getting superCID. Which you don't need to do.

What Straight Talk option... CDMA or GSM, the procedure is very different and of varying degree of difficulty...
CDMA (Verizon/Sprint) - need a donor ST phone, and clone the ESN/MEID, plus tweaks in the radio settings. Unlocked or S-OFF and root required, 3G data possible, no 4G
GSM (AT&T/T-Mobile) - Edge (2G, around ~220kb/s) data possible out of box with no changes to phone except change radio mode and add APN setting. 3G/4G possible on AT&T only with pretty in depth modification of radio settings and some prop.build file edits, this is still in the works for a walk-thru, this also would require an unlocked bootloader or S-OFF and root.

The method to move it to Straight Talk w/Verizon towers is the relatively the same as moving a Rezound to PagePlus, follow that tutorial except substitute a Straight Talk 3G smartphone (instead of a PP phone) as a donor and program the Rezound accordingly.
If AT&T has service in your area and you are not comfortable with the heavy modifications required to do that, I would recommend moving to GSM service... get a Straight Talk AT&T GSM SIM and go from there. AT&T is recommended over T-Mobile as the frequecies used for higher speed data on T-Mobile are not compatible with the Rezzy.
Why is it going to cost you $500 to get out of your current contract? Honestly, unless because of service coverage you are forced to Verizon, drop them completely... A good GSM smartphone with HSPA+ can be had for well under $150 used, a new Nexus 5 will set you back $350, and a Straight Talk/AIO Wireless/AT&T Go Phone SIM card will run you $45-$60 per month, saving $40-$60 per month, easily paying for the phone in a just a few months.
Well I'm getting off my parents line and getting my own. Considering my lack of credit, Verizon is going to charge $400 for a security deposit, along with the first months bill. If I want to buy a phone that is on there too ($199 but I'll get $100 back). I have considered a gsm company, but up here in the mountains, Verizon is basically monopoly. All the other carrier's coverage is hit and miss.

Actually, for that kind of money I would look at some of the ZTE, LG, or Samsung phones that Straight Talk has that are CDMA (Verizon) based, for under $200 you can get ST phone that will just work (sometimes using Verizon ST on a flashed phone isn't the most reliable for all services) with Jellybean. ZTE are not the best phones, but they are not crap either, a friend has the ZTE Solar and loves it... Plus you will still save $50/month over a traditional VZW plan.

The S3 is nice, but at $399 its a little steep, although you might be able to get one on eBay for around $320 or so. The ZTE Solar is $179 online, 4.5" display, dual core 1.2ghz, 768MB ram, and JB 4.1. Not super impressive, but acceptable.
EDIT: Nevermind... it seems the Straight Talk ZTE phones are all GSM, not Verizon based, it has a SIM card when I looked at my friends this morning. Guess I was barking up the wrong tree the whole time. :/
No problem, I appreciate the input! I wish st would get the S4 already

Ah... gotcha... Out of the box you will only get Edge, the radios in the Rezound are not tuned for US GSM frequencies.
HSPA(+) is possible in some instances with significant tweaks to the build.prop file and radio NV settings, not a procedure to be taken lightly... And the signal has to be really good or it won't work... I mean REALLY good... This is @REV3NT3CH area of expertise, I'll tag him and hopefully he can be of assistance.
