Do you think Dev version is worth than at&t version? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I ordered Dev version
It was expected to be stocked on Apr 19th
and...it is delayed
I know I can upgrade from at&t store for 64gb version
they have stock and will send me by 2nd air shipping
I guess I can get the bootloader-unlock and sim-unlock by the XDA forum or ebay-seller
I got mail from HTC
they said they do their best to stock it and will send it until end of April
If you were in my case, what is your choice?
wait for Dev version? or upgrade from at&t?

You clearly had the money to blow and you already went through the effort of placing the order. Just wait it out. It's only a phone.

Personally if you are still able to unlock the bootloader for the AT&T version, I don't see why you wouldn't want the AT&T version, correct me if I am wrong but I thought there was virtually no difference.

The main reason to get the AT&T version is for warranty exchanges if needed..
AT&T will generally ship you a new phone and then once you get it, you return the faulty one. It's a pretty easy and painless process.
The dev version will have to be mailed to HTC and you will wait for them to inspect it and decide if they are going to repair or replace it. This could take a week, two weeks, or longer..
If warranty claim times does not bother you then I'd get the dev version as it's already unlocked, has no AT&T branding on the back and will probably have a slightly higher resale value..
I opted to pay full price for the AT&T version for the warranty reasons I noted above..

This. There seems to be some quality control issues with the one, I wouldn't feel comfortable buying the dev version just for the fact that if there's an issue I can't just go to a store for an exchange.

Am I the only one waiting on Vodafone UK?

They made an announcement on their eForum yesterday:
Vodafone said:
There have been a number of unanticipated issues during the software approval for Galaxy S 2.
The next phase of testing is scheduled for Friday 13th. We'll provide an update on Monday 16th with the latest information on timings.
If the device passes testing with Google on Friday, we'll be able to confirm despatch dates for preorders in our Monday update. If not, we'll give as much information as we can.

What the... Does this mean they're filling it with bloatware? I've heard from other sources that VF will be selling the GS2 unbranded, but then how could it have issues regarding software approval?
I've been due an upgrade for a month and have been holding off for this -- which is why I haven't bought the phone outright. I still haven't been able to confirm a deal for my new tariff because they can't confirm deals until the phone is showing 'in stock' for those in the call centre.
I heard the date of 16th being the release date for some time now, so hopefully on Monday I'll here "the phone is available!" and I get in before they're out of stock.
Anybody else in the same or a similar boat? Very, very frustrating!
Hey, I managed to pre-order the phone through an online early upgrade on the 4th May. When I ordered it said something along the lines of shipping "from the 16th May" so this could mean any time after that date really. I phoned the warehouse team on Tuesday (10th May) to try and get clarification if they still expected to start shipping on this date, and the guy I spoke to said that they anticipated stock to arrive within the next 2-3 days and that once it was in stock they would start shipping immediately. However after seeing the update on their forums yesterday I can only assume that what I was told was a complete lie.
It's really frustrating that a) Vodafone would load the phone with software (bloatware) Google obviously don't approve of and b) that they would delay the launch of the phone to do this!
why not get it through CPW or mobiles.co.uk?
sure to be unbranded then + probably cheaper anyway...
got mine on release week on VF upgrade via mobiles.co.uk
Because mine was an early upgrade (my contract isnt up 'til September) I had to go direct through Vodafone. Although by the looks of things, Vodafone might not be shipping my order until September anyway
I'd say you're probably better to wait a couple of months, especially if VF are ****ing about with the firmware...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App, innit!
My O2 phone works fine on a Vodafone SIM, so if they're having problems in testing they must be screwing around with it. That means you'll get any official updates some time after everyone else.
Plus is there the remotest chance you'll get the phone for £149.99 on a £10.50 per month contract with Vodafone? Nope.
Go to phones 4u or carphone warehouse. They will give you an unbranded sgsII as an upgrade.
I got mine as a Vodafone upgrade from phones 4 u. on April 30th.
Mine was an early upgrade. My contract doesn’t finish until 12th of June. But i was able to upgrade from 12th of April. The 2 month is added to the end of my new contract. So i can upgrade again 12th of April 2013. But again my contract won't be up till 12th of June 2013

They won't be able to do as good a deal as Vodafone will (most likely) do. I'm hoping I'll be able to get a handset-only upgrade which would mean: £35 p/m 18m, 600mins, Unlimited texts, 500MB, Vodafone passport.
Looking at mobiles.co.uk I'd have to take 300 less minutes per month and pay £79.99 for the handset. That's pretty good but since I've been with VF for a good number of years I think I can do better.

Could you barter or did you have to stick to their standard deals? Carphone warehouse can do my tariff with that phone if I pay £159.99 for the handset -- no thank you :-/
I would check on Phones 4 U website but unfortunately they kind of con you into allowing them to use your information for marketing before showing you the goods it seems. Oh well.
Could it be the NFC devices which are supposed to hit late may early june?
Means they could still be unbranded?
An optimistic view, I doubt it though. I have little faith in Vodafone! I received a response (to an email I sent) from one of Guy Laurence's people. I responded by asking her if these VF handsets will be branded. My next question will be about NFC.

same offers I get, just I can apply for discounts after I've order (this is special for me, please don't expect to barter with customer services after the phone has come out if you pre-order on a high tariff).
why are you waiting at all, I upgraded my vodaphone contract using Phones4you, got a great deal. 25/month, £60 for phone.
You can get voda's version will be full of crap and more expensive.
@stoolzio
Can you tell me how this worked? I tried three different P4U stores and they all said that they no longer do "handset upgrades". ie: They'd give me the phone, on my network, but only if I changed tariff. Since I want to keep my existing tariff I couldn't do a deal with P4U (or CPW, either).
Did you change your Voda tariff?

Same, I rang P4U earlier and they said they don't do handset only upgrades. They were £50 cheaper than CPW though.

Have you had a call from Voda, by any chance? They called me about 11am to say the SGS2 might be available for despatch today.

I got mine through phones4u in PCworld, maybe things are different. To be honest I think it depends on the branch and even perhaps who you talk to, a bit inconsistent, i'll tell you why.
I first ran Phones4u and they told me the same, no upgrades, however they told me they would be doing next week (two weeks ago now). They also told me they had no handset trade in policy, none at all, nada nothing, didnt exist.
So, the following week I walk into PC world, there and then I am offerred an upgrade of my current vodoacontract and given £90 for my old HD2 (with android on it no questions asked). I was so dumbfounded I just got my cash out and signed up.
Now the proud owner of one SG2 with same phone number, minutes and everything.

Ideas for getting a developer edition using AT&T upgrade

Hey guys. I've been tossing an idea around in my head for getting my hands on a One Developer Edition (currently sold out on HTC.com).
I have an upgrade ready on May 1, 2013... just a week away. I want to stick with AT&T and their LTE network.
My idea is to get a brand new phone using my upgrade and turn around and sell it on ebay as a brand new, never used phone and put THAT money toward a developer ed. One.
- I assume the best money I can get with my upgrade is with the 16 GB iPhone 5. Most recent sell of a brand new i5 was $515.00. Would you guys assume this is the best money I can get from my upgrade?
Total comes to -$200 (iPhone5), +$515 (sell on ebay), -$650.00 (HTC One dev.) = $335.00 HTC One Dev.
Does this sound like a good plan? Would you guys know of a better way to turn my upgrade in to cash
I'm in the same boat.
Buying and flipping an IPhone 5 will bring you the best return. Especially if you can get it unlocked before you sell it. That said, if you're burning an upgrade anyway, and sticking with AT&T, I'd suggest just buying the subsidized 64 gb. It's the same phone as the development edition and will cost the same without the hassle of dealing with eBay.

Hey thanks for the info gunnyman. I had no idea the AT&T 64 gb was bootloader unlocked and unbranded. Cool.
It's not. But unlocking on HTC dev and rooting and romming gives you the same end result.
If the bootloader was not unlock able on the att phone I could see spending the money on the dev phone.

I guess I can use my car keys to scratch off that AT&T logo kidding...
I'll keep the idea in mind though. It looks like the 64 gb would be 50 bucks cheaper than going with my plan above. My only thought is that HTC might push updates quicker through their own channels than AT&T, if I wanted to stay with the factory image for some reason.
I just went to htctradeup.com and it says I can get $150.00 back for an old iPhone 4 32 gb. So next week I'll order the 64gb HTC One as an upgrade for 299.00 and then I'll get $150 back from HTC!
Guys can you tell me if this is worth the trouble. I recently signed up for AT&T service along with this fine phone that has zero flaws. But now I find myself interested in the developers edition. I know I could sell this phone on ebay for the same price I could get the developers edition but my question is, is really worth the hassle? My phone is already unlocked and I know its not the same as having S-off which I believe is the only difference between the AT&T version and developers edition. So is that phone really worth all the hassle?

The dev is the same as the AT&T version plus we have unlocked bootloader and rooting method for our version of the One. Save you're money and spend $200 - $300 on a nice AT&T one.

The downside to the dev edition is that for any warranty issues you have to go through HTC and they flat out suck!
I had an international One X that needed replacement and I had to mail it to HTC. They had it 2 weeks and mailed it back with the exact same problem. Sent it to them again and they finally sent a replacement device. Total time was over 4 weeks to simply get a replacement.
Never again!
I paid full price for my AT&T One and will never buy another device again that needs to be sent directly to HTC. At least with AT&T they send you a replacement right away and you mail back the defective one after you get the replacement in the mail.
If you are okay dealing with HTC and their horrible replacement / exchange policy then the dev version is fine. Beware they will NOT send you a replacement 1st and wait for you to return the defective device.
With HTC you mail it to them. They inspect it and see if they can repair it. If they can it gets repaired and returned to you. If they can't repair it then they send you a replacement. This process can take anywhere from a week (if you are lucky) but average turn around time in my experience is 2 to 3 weeks.
The regular 32gb HTC One for AT&T is going for about $630 on eBay new. Prob more than u would get for a crappy boring iphone

I ordered when it showed up as available for purchase (I was waiting). I called just now and they said it's showing as backordered, but that my ETA was 4/4 - 4/15.
If I can find it somewhere else, I'll cancel and re-order, but I'm not expecting anyone else to be faster. I wish I could get the Verizon one without their service and just unlock it (I'm extremely impatient..)
Edit: in the AT&T orders thread people are receiving theirs already or have it shipped. I went ahead and ordered from there as well. I will cancel whichever doesn't ship first.

The verizon ones have lte frequencies that I do believe only work for verizon, at least not for at&t, Tmobile or Sprint. I think they work internationally possibly though. The thing about verizon phones is though that verizon wont let htc dev unlock your bootloader, so for the verizon model you wont get root until someone figures out s-off for the htc m8 which I think it may not be long before someone does it sounds like the devs are close to cracking it, once they do you can root the verizon model also. Another reason to hate big red other then them being a holes about everything especially not competing with prices of other networks, hopefully it will be their downfall and they will get taken over by a company with business sense and not a company that wants to squeeze evey penny out of you that they can and think they deserve it...
I definitely recommend ordering from att. It shipped and made it to my city the next day (was marked to deliver on a week day and it was Saturday so I have to wait till Monday. ) so if you want to try it could be faster.
I ordered the Gunmetal Gray from Best Buy on Tuesday when I ordered it said sips in 3-5 days. Question about the AT&T version of the LG V10.

I really want to get this phone, and one of the main features I was excited about was the fact that it comes with a fingerprint scanner on the power button. But when I look at ATT's website, it doesnt mention it as a feature. And ATT is known for getting versions of certain models of phones without certain features. So I really want to know if it has the fingerprint scanner on the ATT model before I buy it.
Thanks all.
It does. But I have heard there are issues with the scanner when you are using a case.
Yes, the fingerprint scanner is there on the AT&T model.
As far as the case-related issues, that is not specific to the AT&T model.
I am using the Spigen "Liquid Crystal" from Amazon with no trouble at all. If you are a current AT&T customer and want to upgrade to the LG V10 contact the AT&T 800 #. They have the ability to give current good customers the V10 for $199.99 with no 2 year contract.

Can you elaborate little more on $199.99 w/o 2-year contract?? I just picked it up with down pay and 28-month installment. I'm about to get rid of it b4 my 14-day expires due to bootloader being locked. If i can get this for $200 with no strings attached, i just might be returning this and get that and stay. And wait for someone to crack on bootloader. Thanks!

If you are dealing with AT&T directly on their 800 number, and have been an AT&T customer for a while, it is an option that they have. But if they have you committed to the more expensive payment plan, it would be foolish of them to mention it. Unless they thought they might loose you as a customer. Good luck.
Thanks..will give a try..
-Update-
Well, They said no, and they have never done that. They said it may have been a some kind of off-the-table deal between you and redemption(?) department.. ATT CS does not know anything about that deal. They would look into that deal if they could have your ATT number to check to see if it was a legit deal between you and that department..
Well... tried, and failed...
Returning my ATT phone, and getting me a T-MO V10 and hook it up on ATT network.
I believe that the T-Mo version of the V10 is root-able, so far the AT&T version is not. Maybe a better option in more than one way.

Any point in buying the US version?

I've pretty much decided on getting the Z5c, but I do live in the US. Originally I had been holding out for the US version, but now it's come out without a fingerprint reader I'm nonplussed. I've realized that I plan to void the warranty immediately by unlocking the bootloader. It is also the same price as the international version.
So, can anyone think of a reason why it would be worthwhile to get the US version in light of the fact that I plan to unlock the bootloader? Is there another similar device I should be looking at?
International version is about $20 less than US version on eBay, might as well save some cash.
link? I was going to buy from amazon.
I'm in the U.S. as well and I imported mine on launch day from clove .com
Expansys-usa.com has them for $419 Cheapest I've seen. It's the Asian version I believe with a fingerprint scanner. I'm close to buying as well but since the s7 and g5 are announced next week, I'll wait a bit.
*edit looks like they only have yellow and corral in Stock.

I'm in the US and also got mine from Clove. I asked them about the warranty and they said I could use the warranty if needed but would have to return it to them. That's a chance I was willing to take.
