[Q] Root/Unroot process - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Anyone got a root and unroot process for the AT&T HTC One? I don't want to void my warranty yet. Wanna make sure I can undo the root so I can return the phone if necessary.

The only way to root a HTC device is to unlocked it 1st via HTC Dev..
As soon as you do that there is NO turning back and your HTC warranty is VOID.

What root method did you use? Coming from samsung device and this is all new to me.
Thanks

So if I get it rooted and the battery dies or the phone mechanically breaks, it's not covered??!? That's hosed. Guess I'll be returning this puppy and getting the GS4.

Yes before u unlock make sure u want to keep the phone...unfortunately for me im kinda having buyers remorse but since I unlocked im SOL and cant return it....
I too only have had Samsung's and although htcs are nice they are a bit more involved when it comes to flashing and rooting then it is with Samsung's....but u can use this toolkit here

From what ive learned is once u unlock there is a big "tampered" sign on the bootloader screen...even if u relock it stays there....only when the dev find a way to s-off...can u remove that tampered message

Just did mine.
What is this? Exactly.. can someone elaborate ? Is that unlocked bootloader thing for real?
You guys need to tell everyone if they use the HTC unlock then HTC has their phone info any can deny warranty repairs to their phones.

siiiiiiiick.
let's get some s-offy goodness!
woah, wait.....Im not new to flashing and modding, but I am very new to the HTC scene. Do we individually have to unlock the bootloader ourselves? Or is it something the devs do? If we (invidually) dont unlock today do you think that HTC will stop letting us tomorrow? I just dont want to kill my phone.

We individually unlock it. It's super easy. The instructions gives you screen shots of what to do. I just unlocked mine. Took about 5-10 minutes. I'm sure it will be available tomorrow but I didn't waste any time.
Tough to tell whether HTC did this on purpose or not. They very well might pull it later after they realize it/Verizon *****es them out.
I would at least go get the unlock token now, even if you don't want to use it right now.
Jason
I'll just wait for the devs to set it up where I don't have to give my phone info to vzw and htc. Might need my warranty some day.

Doesn't void your warranty to just get the unlock token... Only after you install it. But whatever.

I just don't see the rush, don't even have s-off or recovery yet.

Click on Unlock Bootloader. Follow directions. If you don't want to install the token, stop at the point that it emails you the token.

This htcdev.com unlock will allow you to flash custom ROMs, kernels, and recoveries. Sadly radios, hboot/bootloader, and I believe splash screens are a no go. Also, some things must be flashed via fastboot as opposed to recovery. (ie kernels) Considering this phone has some new security tricks not seen before its an ok trade while you wait for s-off IMO. I don't know if it will bring s-off any closer but I doubt it. I can't speak to the warranty situation but I would advise reading all the terms and conditions before proceeding. However consider this.....rooting your phone technically voids your warranty....

Yes perm root is as easy as flashing a recovery then using the recovery to flash the su and busybox binary. Then install superuser from the market and bam permanent root. (or just wait till someone makes a flashable package that will do all that for you.)

[Q] Regarding rooting my new Amaze 4G: Any way to keep warrantee intact?

Hi everyone,
I just got my new phone today and read the post about rooting.
Well, I wanted to know IF I can root my phone and not void the warrantee.
Is this possible?
Thank you and hello!

If I'm not mistaken ^^^^^^^ put a nice guide together and if I'm not mistaken he stated clearly that rooting will void your warranty, and we still have people asking the same ?.smfh.
If you root y won't loose ur warranty in fact htc will give u lifetime warranty.

Hello,
I've never owned a smartphone before and I don't believe everything I read.
An acquaintance gave me this website address and I'm not here to cause problems nor belittle another...
Thank you
dude if your worry about your phone getting messed up and cant exchange no worries i had several rooted androids even with custom roms, and when it gets bricked i call in for an exchange and no problems at all, what they do they send the phone to its maker and they just plug it in with their special program and flash the the phone again
Here u go...

Relocked?

Alright guys I'm ebaying my flyer as everyone knows. I just downgraded it to gingerbread, left it s-on and then upgraded it to honeycomb. But one odd thing I can't help but notice and that in h-boot it says "re-locked" for the bootloader. How do I make it say "locked" again?
Probably doesn't matter but just don't want some ebay buyer to be mad at me lol
Did you use the HTCDev.com method to unlock the bootloader, or S-Off using Revolutionary?
If you used the HTCDev.com method, it will only ever say "RELOCKED".
If you used Revolutionary to S-Off, that is very interesting . . .
Yeah I unlocked via htc developers on honeycomb, then reverted to gingerbread, ran revolutionary, then used globaltrons ruu with honeycomb s-off to a achieve it

Hard to believe there isn't a fix for this. Freaking htc I swear. This affects all their devices too apparently.

I wouldn't say it's something that "affects" all their devices. It's just the way it has always been unfortunately. There is a flash counter with an obnoxious yellow triangle on most Samsung devices for example.
It'd be a purely cosmetic fix but you could try looking into RegawMOD Bootloader Customizer, at your own peril of course!
Well I sold it last night, transferring the square trade warranty to the buyer. I'm mailing it out when I get home. At this point no point in risking bricking it. Imo its a used tablet, he's paying 125 for it, so you get what you pay for lol. Hopefully the square trade will work regardless if it breaks. I might however use that for my phone, guys on rootzwiki just suggested it to me, wasn't aware it was for all htc devices

Called HTC servis suport they tould me seeing RELOCKED in HBOOT voids waranty. As i have some problems with mine Flyer i would really like to get it into service so there really no way to get it back to LOCK status?

I think it should normally say "LOCKED". I read into the RegawMOD Bootloader Customizer and I'm not sure it would work for the Flyer's S-OFF method as Revolutionary requires a device specific serial number for a custom hboot.
thx.
I hope its not comming the end of the days of mine flyer
I like it but would def. not buy new one for the price due to HTC droping their suport on it.

Is it posible to delete even HBOT so ppl in servis wouldnt even see was it locked or wasnt it?

Sooo if I decide not to keep can I return it

Soooo...really like the phone so far but not in love with it yet....thinking about maybe returning it if it doesn't grow on me....long story short it's unlocked and rooted running custom firmware....now i did make a stock nandroid before flashing anything....so can I flash back to the stock nandroid and just relock it and it will be ok? Will att give me a hard time and or know it was tampered with?..I would hate to have the next potential phone owner not be warrentied because of me unlocking it....

As long as you can restore it to bone stock and you just tell them you decided it's not the phone for you, you might be able to. I've heard of people returning unlocked and re-locked phones before without any problems, but they could tell you to keep it if they want to look closely and decide to hold firm on that you're technically voiding the warranty by unlocking.

Yeah I can return it stock thanks to my nandroid...but I'm just wondering if att is really that smart....I'm mean correct me if I'm wrong but once I relock that tampered notice disappears right? So I'm just wondering how they would even know I guess....or I guess I could just sell the phone too if need be

I've had a DNA since they were released over a year ago and I've installed OTAs every time they come down, does that mean this "RumRunner" software can still root the DNA? I've always wanted to root my device but was too nervous, but if it's pretty easy with "RumRunner" I'll give it a go.

I have PAD (Puzzles and Dragons) i don't know if there's a way to backup my countless hours of play, I'm sure rooting will wipe the phone so does anyone have any idea how to save the PAD software?? the rest of the crap on the phone I can restore, that's the only game I'm worried about losing.
