[Q] Group received messages by name - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to group text messages received by contact name rather than phone number?
I have a web app set up that sends messages to [email protected] and when received it comes 1410000001, 1410000002, 1410000003, 1410000004, etc. Regardless of being from the same sending address, every e-mail received will be under a new number.

trouble sending email

I have text messaging with my Rogers ATT Canada account. I can receive emails ok, if they are addressed to the address [email protected], but when I try to send, i keep getting a bounce back saying "when sending e-mail via sms, the first word must be an email address". This is exactly what I am doing. I make the "to:" address 10 zeros, then put in a subject, and in the main body, I first type an email address, then a space, then the message, and it always bounces back. anyone know why?
thanks,
Peter
ok, i figured it out
turns out to send email via sms, you cannot put anything in the subject line provided by the xda messaging interface. my sms server needs the message to be formatted as follows.
in the "To:" field, enter ten 0's (which is what I had been doing)
the very next thing the sms server needs to see is an email address. so, if you enter a subject in the subject line, it will view that as the intended recipient's email address, and bounce it back. Unless, of course, you put an email address in the subject line.
so, there you go.

How do you send text-only group MMS?

As you all know, Android lacks the ability to receive group text from iPhone users under one single thread. iPhone users can text a multiple users using MMS, and all the replies from all recipients will appear under one "group MMS" thread. For Android users, each individual message in the conversation appears under the contact that sends it, not under a group thread. As a result, my SGS2 can't "reply all" to everybody who is on the original list of recipients.
This is a problem for me as I group text a lot and most of my friends are iPhone users.
I was a dumbphone user right until I got my SGS2 a month ago. I manage to tackle this problem with my dumbphone because it can "reply-all" to MMS messages.
I can't seem to find this option on the SGS2. Anyone got any pointers? Is it possible to send a text only MMS message to multiple contacts?
Reply All to iPhone group texts
I use GO SMS so this may not work in the stock Messaging app.
When I receive an iPhone group text (=Group MMS), I do the following:
(1) Create a new text-only message
(2) Manually key in all the contacts from the group text
(3) Add a subject (e.g. "X") to convert the text-only message into a Group MMS
iPhone users will receive your Group MMS in the same group text thread that everyone else is on, plus the additional "X" subject line. As you already know, without the subject, your text-only message will be sent out as SMS messages to each individual and the iPhone users will not see it in the group text thread.
Until Android Issue 24468 (google it) is resolved, this manual method is the only way I know of how to Reply All to iPhone group texts from an Android phone.
Hope that helps.
p.s. SGS2 is amazing.

RingCentral app and SMS messages

I am having a problem on Android that I can't figure out. I use the RingCentral service for my home phone, unrelated to my Android phone.
When a caller leaves a voicemail for me at RingCentral, I receive a SMS message on my Android phone. The RingCentral SMS is sent from [email protected] where the X's are the phone number of the caller.
The X phone number matches a phone number for a friend in my Android contacts. However, the [email protected] is no where in the contact record for that person.
My SMS app is empty. No retained messages. Whenever I get a direct SMS from that contact, it now shows as being from [email protected] rather than that person's contact record name: First Name, Last Name. This is annoying because I use Tasker to read the name of the SMS sender. Instead of reading the name, it reads me all of the numbers at ringcentral dot com.
It seems this has to be related to a cache or something, but can't figure it out. Any ideas?

[Q] SMS - Outbox, Sent, Inbox etc???

Can't find my Outbox for unsent SMS or a proper inbox and sent?
Is there a way of showing these?
Thanks
it's like IOS. the two box has mixed~you can only check every message to find the text that you have received and send.
