[Q] Backing up apps before unlock? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

What is the best way to back up apps, including app data (not just the apk). And restoring after i unlock the bootloader.

I use Carbon Back up. It also works without root if I'm correct.
I ditch Titanium Back Up a while ago but still use it because it has features that Carbon doesn't. Like uninstalling bloatware

Restoring apps with Titanium Backup after flashing ROM

Do you guys recommend restoring both the Apps + Data after flashing a new ROM (especially from GB to ICS) or is restoring only the Apps less likely to cause any problems?
I've been using MyBackup Root to restore apps (as the free version allows for full auto install). Moved from GB to ICS with Apps+Data then used the Google Play Store to update. Seemed to work pretty well!
For what its worth. Going from gb to ice has been fine for me also. There are issuew with a few apps. That's more down to a compatibility issue from gb to ice.
Play store updates work fine too.

I have been using Astro file manager for app back up without issue. Granted I only backup 4ext, and netflix.
The only issue I've had is when I restore an incompatible app like a Noob. Be careful with GB or ics only apps that require root as they may change some file and cause fc.

I also back up my apps through astro, take the lazy route and issue's will arise,If you have a gmail account you can also sync all contacts, calendar etc.

As long as they are not system apps, you are absolutely fine restoring apps+data. That's the whole point of Titanium. The only app I don't restore data for is Handcent SMS, I use SMS Backup and Restore for that, I find it works better when I'm restoring a thousand texts or so.

Not to push other apps, but I use Rom toolbox pro to restore apps, texts, settings, etc. It can do it all.

Any advantage ROM Toolbox has over TiBU?

I haven't looked at TB in a while, but Rom toolbox pro has (or at least had at the time) more features for the same price or a little cheaper. You can download and flash fonts, has ad blocker, root browser, CPU control, boot animation flasher, and more. There is a free version to try and a pro version with a few more features. It's really worth a look in my opinion.
EDIT: Mentioned it above, but the most useful feature: app backup and restore, settings backup and restore.

Best way to delete bloatware?

Ok guys, so ive just rooted my s3, and wanna get rid of some of the bloatware. Which is the best way to do this? Backup through titanium backup, and then unistall selected apps?
Thanx, gibbo.

Freeze these apps, Or there's a bloatware removal tool here,

Freezing with Titanium Backup is the best way -- that way the next time you update your software, they are still frozen.
Cool. Ok, I'll do that. Thanx

You still can uninstall the apps with free version.
Or you can use the bloatware removal tools

If your phone is already rooted and you are willing to take one more step, try one of the Omega ROMs. They letz you choose duifng installation what bloatware to install and what to omit. And you can always install previously omitted bloatware afterwards.

As far as I'm aware, Titanium Backup will not restore without root.

Assuming you can get to the factory recovery option from boot (stand on one foot hold these three buttons or whatever) you can use TB to make an update.zip of your backed up stuff, not sure but i know that the factory recovery on all samsung devices in the past have the default option of "apply update.zip from SD card" might be worth a shot. Worst case it just fails the update.zip and you haven't really lost anything.
after i realized titanium backup required root... (always using a galaxy nexus, i never even noticed, lol) i ended up purchasing my backup pro. doesn't backup settings of your apps though unfortunately and required me to click install for every app.
Lol the settings\data is the important part

So i have never had do anything without root before here is what i am attempting to do......

Can anyone confirm this guide will work?
Just letting people know this method did work. All apps + data came across from my galaxy nexus. even things like my nova launcher which made me very happy.
The only problem is my gallery FC's now. I have another post about it but just thought i would update this one for informational purposes.

System apps able to be removed with htc app cleaner

Does anyone have a copy of those system apps that get deleted when unlocking the phone bootloader? I accidentally deleted them with the app removal wizard in the storage settings, and i don't wanna screw up the ability to install updates when they arrive. :'( would a factory reset fix this? I am not rooted or bootloader unlocked, I just removed the apps by mistake. Can't believe I made such a noob move after being here so long, lol. Can anyone help?

did you disable them or uninstall them. You have to be unlocked / rooted to uninstall them. It sounds like you just disabled them. If this is the case, go to the bottom of the all app list and you will see disabled apps. A factory reset will fix it as well.

That's actually not true. I was able to uninstall calculator, pdf viewer, tunein radio and soundhound without being rooted, and could have uninstalled ringtone trimmer and flashlight too, but i actually use them and didn't want to.

Try downloading one of the Stock base roms in the HTC One sub forum maybe the apk's will be there then.

No you aren't flashing a rom you are just taking the APK's for the apps you said you uninstalled and installing them again. You said you uninstalled some apps that you want back right? so getting those apps from the Stock base Rom you will be able to reinstall them.

Hello I've never really used it before can I back up just the apps with this and restore them after I flash a different rom?
Currently I'm on skydragon google play edition but want to try viperone and don't want to re-install all my apps again.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated..

That's not recommended using a nandriod backup to replace your data partition when switching to a different ROM. What you can do is use Titanium Backup to backup all your user apps with data, and then restore them after you've flashed a new ROM.
FYI, only backup and restore "User" apps with Titanium when switching ROM's.
+1 to what guyd said. I paid for the titanium backup app years ago and I use it every day. Don't really know what the free version doesn't have compared to the paid. I never restore system data though. Makes flashing roms and setting them up sooo much quicker.
Thank you very much will do and if there is a pro version I will buy got to support your developers!!!

Free version does not allow message or favorites backup easily. It also doesn't allow cloud backup. Great app. Well worth buying the paid version.

From what i've read, titanuim backup has had problems with restoring on the 4.4.2 platform. Has this been resolved yet? I never used it as I'm accustomed to ROM toolbox. I know that app works well.
Also not mentioned. Titanuim backup free doesn't allow you to batch restore which is a real biggie!

I only restore data, never the app itself and I have never had a problem. Never restore system.
