Just a quick noobish question, maybe someone else will also benefit from having answered - where can I find the CM7 nightlies for the AT&T GS2? I know there is a link in the official CM7 thread to nightlies, but it appears to only be for the I-9100 (International) GS2 and not for the AT&T version. Is this correct? Can I flash a nightly as long as it says GS2 or must it be an AT&T version? I'm a bit confused on that one. Sorry if the question is dumb, but I couldn't find an answer for that.
I have flashed CM7 nightlies as well but they haven't put the actual builds out yet. Instead they are updating the original from the first post. The latest build is 10/25. They are using this method until they get nightlies up. Do not use the international version updates as they are not the same. It actually won't let you install it. Here is the link to the nightlies when they come:
http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=galaxys2att
On a side note, it looks as if they just posted the first nightly! How awesome is that. Make sure to do a backup before installing from zip.

Awesome! Thanks for the response. I have ROM Manager Premium and nothing new ever shows up in it and every time I checked http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxys2att I never see anything...
Though now that I see your edit, it looks like it's there too! Sweet! Okay, I will be sure to check both links. Any idea why they aren't showing up in ROM Manager?
I've been trying to figure that one out to and have asked in the Dev post. I assume that since I've got the 10/25 update this is just a repackaged version of the same one. Maybe we'll have to wait until the next. If I hear anything I'll let you know.

Excellent. Definitely let me know either by PM or even updating this thread so others can find out as well.
Not that I thought it would be fixed because I'm not sure where the problem is, but I still can't get Media Hub working even on the new nightly Anyone know why that might be?

if the Media Hub app you are talking about is a Samsung app, it won't work. No samsung apps will work with CM7.

The nightly finally showed up in ROM Manager. Just select "Download ROM" with in RM and CM7 Nightly should be a choice. Working great for me so far.

Hmm.. I dont think it is. From what I understand, is that none of the Samsung apps will work because of the partition that CM7 uses. (Or something like that) Not sure exactly why but I'm 99% sure Samsung apps wont work. It was like that for my captivate also. I'm sorry I don't know the technical answer.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it was included in the Epic 4G Touch version of CM7. Also, I did see a few threads that said if you want to keep Media Hub, just use Titanium Backup to port it over, just be sure to do App Only when you restore and not data. I tried that but couldn't get it to work. I'm guessing it requires some other system files, but I wouldn't know for sure. Development is not my thing.
hi... i have been searching for a rom which is as close to stock roms provided by samsung.... read sumwhere samsung i9000's rom has been ported to vibrant but i couldnt find any... ic anybody knows anything abt this or any other gb rom with touch wiz, plz let me know...
thanks.
Using Odin to go back to stock would probably be a best way to do it, but if you're dead set on a ROM you could look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036193
And specifically here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24149078&postcount=224
Hopefully that link still works, but if it doesn't I think that Moped Ryder has a thread where he rehosted those files. You'll have to look around for it though.
Nice thing about that ROM is that it comes rooted, and busyboxed for you.
i want a gb rom, not 2.1 or 2.2. so i think i am stuck with either cm7 or those simply honey and simply stock roms wich are heavily themed. i dont like thems.... read a guide about porting gb roms of i9000 i think will have to giv it a shot....

I know your asking for a GB ROM but you should really move on, Chimera 1.1 is the future. Go ahead and install Chimera 1.1 ROM, if you don't like this ROM then something is seriously wrong. I would recommend Platypus kernel if you do switch over. Chimera comes with a custom installer with multiple options for kernels, apps, keyboards etc. The custom installer is awesome, you can literally set it up to install whatever you want and whatever you DONT want. www.team-passion.com is where you will find it, try it seriously! Worst thing that happens is you don't like it but its really the best ROM i have ever used, period. If you do install, choose apex launcer or even samsung launcher if you want the samsung look, the cndlauncher has problems so do not install it! O yea, 911 has been proven to work on chimera also, try it dude.

I cant seem to find any change log on it. I did find this:

But it doesn't indicate that 911 works. One person on a forum does does indicated that it works. Each build varies and each area varies from what Ive seen.
I have no problem suggesting an ICS ROM, but I would like to see more folks at least warning of the ICS Encryption Unsuccessful bug.

From what Ive read it literally encrypts partitions making odin or Jtag useless. The "fix" is actually a work around from what I see. You substitute your external sdcard for android required partitions.

No to go too far off topic, but if you are running ANY ICS rom, you need to be aware of the risks of this bug. It doesn't descriminate. Just yesterday, someone Odin'd to JFD and flashed all the way to ICZen (which has been the least effected ROM) and got it. Fortunately he was able to somehow get it back to full working status, but if you are unaware to what this bug is, I suggest at the very least to make a backup of your internal_sd. The internal is what gets Encrypted and right now there is NO key and only a handful of people have come back from it. There is no solution or concrete cause for this bug.
Good Luck.

JBQ from Google confirmed in a post on a Google group that Android will assume any partition that doesn't contain valid data or zero is encrypted:
JBQ said:
Yup, with encryption support in ICS, Android has become a lot more
picky about having all the filesystems initialized with valid data,
and mistakenly assumes that anything that's not zero or valid is
encrypted, refusing to go any further.
In Gingerbread and before, anything that wasn't valid was expected to
be invalid, and Android would just re-initialize it, regardless of
whether it was zero or not.
You're lucky you didn't have to work with Honeycomb, where zeros were
considered encrypted.

If you read the EU threads, it's obvious life goes on post-EU. I got hit a while back, partitioned an external sdcard, and then used the emmc / sdcard swap to deal with the loss of access to my internal sd. If I get hit again, it's much easier to manage the situation with a portable ext sdcard. For one person, it was as simple as a chkdsk from a pc fixing the issue without losing any data.
Everyone's risk tolerance level will vary, but the benefits / performance and dev progression of ICS far out weigh any reason for me to consider downgrading. Imo, it's nasty, yes ... yet a manageable situation as long as you know the risks (and be proactive about backing up your data to another device or cloud acct).
Since EU, I religiously keep my TiBu data sync'd in Dropbox and consciously steer towards apps with online sync / backup capabilities, etc.
Moral of the story is ... once you go thru it, it's only as painful as how well you've heeded this man's sage advice:

Flash is obsolete, even adobe admitted it as why they quit developing it, it works fine on JB, just that you won't find it in the market place, you have to manually install it but anything you can do on flash html5 does with the same ease.

How so? A lot of the sites are still flash based. What happens when you try and get to one of those without flash capability?
HTML5 can take the place of flash, but has not done so yet.

Any relevant site that has been around since html5 was released should be updated by now, youtube supports it, fb supports it and just about every other major site. If they don't support html5 and prefer flash, you sir better have good anti-virus software, plus using html5 and not flash reduces the number of ads showing up in your browser, also increases security. Adobe didn't make flash support available for JB but if you install the actual app, it works fine.
Pretty sure all the ones complaining about no flash support will be all over JB the min this device gets a taste of it.

Try checking the OP for the ROM...
u can see all the cm10 links in sourceforge.com
All the CM10 level ROMs are making the photon an oven.
Stock and CM7s are really cool.
They'll stay cool if you set the cpu to 1Ghz
Ok so I am new here and to the whole rooting your phone scene. I want to be able to put this cm10 on my phone but it is stock and I have never rooted before. Is there a step by step guide to show me how to root and then get cm10 installed so I can have 4.1 on my phone? Again any help and direction would be greatful.
Yeah, I found that my phone started having jittery issues when it heated up. I changed my CPU back to 1.0Ghz and haven't had any problems since. The rom had it defaulted to 1.3Ghz
Mine stays at 1ghz. Funky at anything above that.

No. 2.3.5 is our sticking point for now. No-one has figured out how to properly unlock 2.3.5 yet.

I was in your position a few months ago. I was able to get my MoPho rooted by following some step-by-step instructions by QBKing77 (you can Google him). He has a "How to root and clockworkmod Motorola Photon 4G" video that you can follow which worked for me
Keep in mind that you need to:
download and save the rom that you want onto your phone (you mentioned a CM10 rom)
(backups are always recommended by the devs... I didn't but thankfully everything worked out)
root it
install a recovery
boot into recovery
flash (install) the rom
(sometimes the devs have additional options to flash after the rom, probably a good idea)
follow the steps during flashing (ie agree to EULA, selecting launcher(s), etc)
enjoy the new rom...
Once you're able to get into recovery flashing new roms is not that bad. I've been using Paranoid Android 2.99 which is 4.1.2 based from user Th3Bill (big thanks) for about a day and a half now and I'm really impressed with it.
Well, I have successfully booted up 4.2 on my Droid X2. I have been running it since Monday, and it's pretty stable. the only things that aren't working are:
Video Camera
Bluetooth
A few bugs from CM10.
I want to know if you guys want me to finish it up, and try to ready it up for a release this weekend, or if you want me to try to fix bluetooth, and the video camera.
EDIT: I'm going to attempt to fix bluetooth. If it causes too many problems, i'll release it without bluetooth and work on it in my free time. There is a couple stability issues I have patched up, and it seems to be working just fine so far.
EDIT2: I'm taking finals tomorrow then i'll have a good month of tinkering with this ROM. My goal is to get it pretty stable by then end of August (like 8/10 stable).
You should talk to Dragonzkiller. He is also making cm10.1.

I don't know how to get in contact with him. He's on XDA for like 5 minutes every week.
He has a twitter account he uses more often. @dragonzkiller.

not so much.
I would use his help, but I don't think he would be active enough when I needed him. I may get some help from Hashcode if I run into a problem updating this. I like to go solo with most of my things because people program differently. People use different organization, etc..

The thing is, he doesn't have an X2, so I'm not sure if it's really different from other devices he's worked with.

True. Bluetooth is really difficult to fix so is the camera. Keep it up though, its good to see someone working on it.

Nice to hear someone is still working on this thing. If you have a decent build of 4.2.2, I dont see a reason to not release it. Just put all the usual warnings in the post and make it an Alpha. If you do, I'll flash it and test it out. Good work

A lot of people use bluetooth so i'll try to get that working. I'm not sure if i'll take the time for the camera, considering it's been an issue for a while. You can take pictures, you just can't record.

I have been working on this since about the time CM10 A2.99999 was released. The first time it didn't even boot, the next time, touch screen didn't work, and i've just been wiping out issues since then. It's pretty stable, has about the same battery life as CM10 A3 but I know of some apps that help it greatly. Right now I can get about a 12 hour battery life. This includes a phone call or 2, texting, some web browsing, and a little bit of gaming during my web design class.
I have it to a point where it can be a daily driver for some. I want it to be a little bit more stable. I'm free today so i'll spend most of my evening working on it. Tomorrow i'll have a little free time.

Sounds like you got most of the kinks worked out. And you're right about the camera. It may never be fixed since you cant use certain things that Jelly Bean needs. Again, good work. Sounds like you put a lot of effort into this. :good:

I have put a lot of effort in. Theres a few more things i'm going to fix before i push out the ROM. I never thought this phone would see 4.2.
I wanted 4.2, and no one did it, so I learned how to do this myself.

Thats what people SHOULD do. I bet you learned a lot by building your own ROM too. Next thing you know, you'll start making apps.

I have already made apps. Learning how to make apps helped me pick this up easier. Once I get my new phone i'll try to make a custom ROM.
