Hey everyone, I have been having this issue with my SGP 5.0 International for a while now. For some reason when I charge my device until it says "Fully Charged" and then unplug it from the charger it instantly goes to 90%. I'm currently running JackpotClavin's 4/14 CM 10.1 Build but this has been happening on every rom since I changed from stock. I tried wiping battery stats via the application "Battery Calibration" in the play market by overriding the wait till 100% option but it still happens. Any ideas on how to fix this? It's a bit annoying.
Try booting into recovery and wiping your battery stats that way. If that does not work, try running the battery all the way down, then charging it all the way up a few times, I have heard that works.

wiping battery stats does nothing

Do you charge it with the device switched on or off? It should be switched off before you turn it on and check the stats.

My CWM does not have a wipe battery stats option otherwise I would have tried that one first. I am going to turn off the device and let it charge overnight while the device is off and see if that fixes it. I'm just a little confused as to what is causing this since I have had this happen across multiple roms all the way back from custom stock based roms.
yeap does the same on US edition too I am PacMan Rom... any one found a fix ?

Nothing for sure so far. Wiping battery stats did nothing as suggested by many others but it seemed worth a try. I am currently in the process of completely draining the battery on my SGP and then recharging it to see if it goes away. I will update once it is recharged.

That's strange, I don't have any issues with USB. The only issues I've had are low bars for WiFi and the battery not showing 100%.
Well at the end of the day ignore what the stats say. What matters is if the battery does its job or not.
You should do this once every 1-2 months (or after about 50 cycles of charging):
1) Discharge completely the battery until the device turns off itself.
2) Charge the device (better powered off, but on CM10.1 for SGP 5.0 there is a bug and the device turns on when you plug the charger, I don't know if it is solved) and wait further 2-3 hours when the message "Charged" is displayed. Approximately wait 6-8 hours for complete charging.
3) Unplug the charger and turn OFF the device, wait 10-15 minutes with the device off.
4) Connect again the charger and power ON the device, wait 5-10 minutes after the message "Charged" is displayed.
5) Repeat steps 3) and 4) at least 3 times.
6) Now android can read correctly the battery voltage for a while.

If you don't care about keeping the battery at 90% after plug out, then there is no reason to post in this thread.
I used to do this since i bought my first android device, and everytime worked.
If you have an idea please tell us.
I should say that the power issues were usb related. probably to some sort of issue with the power circuit; in my case, on the usb end. Either massive discharges or false reporting (eg 100->30%)
If u don't have any usb issues in the near future, its probably just the usual sgp faulty power reporting issue

Any scietific explaination for such a 'method'? Because it sounds very funny
Do you know how the battery percentage is calculated in our devices?

If you want scientifics explainations, google is your friend and no, I don't know how the batt. % is calculated on android. I only know what i've read about and that this works nicely for me since I had the same problem, so I shared my experience.

I'm fairly sure it doesn't have anything to do with the cable/power adapter as I currently use and have been using for some time 3 different cords/plug combos as well as changing the socket I use to charge. I have heard of the faulty power reporting but even if that is the case the main reason I posted to begin with was to try and sort all that out.

Thanks for mentioning this. I don't have any battery stats issues, but I would be interested in seeing how turning my device off and then fully charging it affects my battery. Now, will I be able to withstand an hour or so without my Samsung Galaxy S2? We'll see.

I've read a lot about this issue on many forums and never got an answer that gives me peace of mind.
I think all that matters is that the device is charged while switched off and that's it.
If you charge a device while it's on it can generate a parasitic load and that will screw the battery stats and age the battery prematurely.
I had some problems like that when I used my brother's iPod charger. Try to switch to an original Samgung charger, if not already using one.

Well, as the title says.. today I've charged my Xperia S from 5% to 100 and yea i am sure that the charger is the EP850
to my problem:
the phone takes about 20 minutes to get to 18% which makes 13%/20 minutes which means that the phone takes about 2h30 to fully charge up and i don't consider this as normal...
anyone facing this? and got a solution?
The thing is battery change level is not linear. So you can't assume 5% to 18% in 20 minutes == 13% / 20 minutes. If the device is new, it will need at least 5 recharge cycles to calibrate properly.

Do you have alot of apps running in the background ?
Cuz that also uses power
if your phone is using power, connection to internet/gps or whatever, or syncing stuff, it will also charge slower.
Well i got the sync on but at night i put all background data off so that cant be the cause..

Probably they got it wrong. Fast charge is supported and my source at Sony confirms that:
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
[email protected] saying that the S doesnt support the fast charging, even on my Box there is a sticker with this on it : 10 Minutes charging = 60 minutes of phone calls so yeah they might have got something wrong there.. but still this is bugging me.. Ive tried a factory reset with restoring apps and still it doesnt work :-( im beginning to think that there is something wrong mit my S' hardware :/
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
What Markus is saying is right, you are mixing your technologies up and there is nothing wrong with your hardware.
All charging starts with the highest current so 10 minutes charge will give 60 minutes of calls if you live in the lab, Sony wont give you the worst case figures or they would have told you your S would be flat in 10 hours. As K900 pointed out charging is not linear, it starts with a whump and tails off as the battery gets fuller and fuller, if it didn't it would boil the cells.
Ok so phone doesn't charge as fast as usual and while charging and using it loses battery percentage and never has before. Also when I get a full charge then unplug it goes straight down to 12%. What do you guys think.... Battery or port problems?

I just bought another battery. I found it was the battery more than port problems or anything like that. My friend and I have the same phones, same roms. We tested this by first going through 3 power cycles. After we charged it, we had only the same apps working, except for some minor checking of FB and twitter (I don't use twitter, but he does).
After our 4th power cycle, it seemed like his phone was dying faster w/ my battery in it. His battery in my phone lasted about 5-10 hours more, I did my normal daily activities on it, even played some youtube videos in class.
So I bought a new one, and bam, stays alive more than 12 hours

Common sense post of the day:
You have to be really careful getting phone accessories off e-bay. In the past I've been duped into buying a fake SD card and a wonky battery.
My dad's Xperia U used to last around 4-5 days with a bit of Wi-Fi, 40% brightness and a call a day. Battery would go down to 15-20%.
Now as you unplug the charger it goes from 100% to 96% instantly. After using it for half a second the battery went down to 93%. Wi-Fi is off, brightness is set to 30% and Auto-Sync is OFF. What do I do? It's not rooted and it's running Stock Gingerbread 2.3.7
Quick replies will be appreciated.
Additional Info: The phone is under warranty and it was purchased about 2 months ago.
Try calibrate the battery

Question
Hi to all
My xperia u does something quite weird. I can't get my battery to last more than one day. I tried different roms, kernels with governors and my battery seems to drain and the main consumer is my screen _ about 65 % while any other process doesn't pass over 15%. Has anybody conflicted with this problem?
How do I get it fixed? Do I need to buy another battery?
PS: I don't have warranty hence the unlocked bootloader

Decrease your brightness and turn of Mobile Bravia Engine if you don't need it. I have three Xperia U's in my house and two of them used to have the problem. Turned the brightness down to 30% and it resolved it. Also I charge it to 100% and kill it down to complete 0% by heavy usage. Try this. Works with laptops and phones.

This morning suddenly my phone gets very hot when it's charging, at first I assume it's because trashy connection in my country, so then I turn the data connection off, but the problem persists!
And after I tried to figure out what's using my CPU so much, I couldn't find anything, but one of the core is just soaring up high to 100% while the other core is simply idle.
This heats my phone very much and drains the battery right away. So then I tried to charged it while it's turned off completely, but the heat problem is still there and it got worse, that green LED light hasn't shown up yet for hours. It's like stuck at 99%.
I have reset my phone, restore it again from Helium backup, but doesn't make any difference.

i did as you suggested, strangely when it's charging it's not produces any heat at all, both the phone and the charger is ice cold, i let it charge for 2,5 hour, i try to find out why the green LED still won't come out because normally charging it 2,5 hour while it's off would be enough. Then i try to fire it up, but the phone won't even start at all.

I find there is a huge battery drop (ex from 50% to 10-12%) when I reboot my phone. It even gives a low battery notification and all. With time the % status increases and stabilizes around 40%. It happens irrespective of the Roms.
A search on xda resulted in multiple threads with 2 outcomes -
1. Faulty battery - which can't be the case as sometimes it even gives me 2 days of backup.
2. It's a known issue
Could not get anything concrete on searched threads and hence this post.
Now my queries are below -
1. If it's a known issue, does everyone else face it?
2. What can I do from my end to avoid it? Except, of course, changing the battery.

It only seems to happen to me when I have to force reboot by long pressing power button (say if I get a rare complete freeze). If I reboot normally I don't get the issue. However, I've seen members post that if you reboot to recovery, and then boot from recovery that you won't get the drop.
That being said, remember that it's only the reported value that is wrong. Your battery voltage is (relatively) unchanged before and after the reboot. In other words, rebooting doesn't eat 40% of the available voltage, the available voltage is being incorrectly reported.

So its the reporting from the hardware to software which is incorrect. Is there anything which we should/shouldnt do to avoid this discrepancy? asking because I remember I never got it for almost 2 years, it started almost since 2-3 months only.
Will a fuel-gauge reset work here? have seen it in stweaks.

That's the logical conclusion I've come to, yes. Like I said, to avoid it, you can reboot to recovery and then boot from there. Personally, I ignore it. It goes away if you charge back to 100%, and battery voltage is unchanged as I said. It almost seems random to me, it used to happen a lot to me. Now I haven't had it for about 5-6 months I'd say. And I don't know what's different, nothing that I can put a finger on anyway.
I'm not sure, I've never used reset fuel gauge. If I remember correctly, that will end up in even more screwy battery values once you press it until the next charge (I could be wrong). But search for a proper explanation of what it does, and maybe give it a try. Post up here if you find out anything from your experiments
I slightly disagree to what the member advised/concluded. To my experience this drop happens when you battery is about to die or needs replacement. Get a new battery and no drop will happen.
It would not drop if you hootboot it, the reason behind this is that it does not completely shuts down your phone hence cpu does not work heavly like it does on reboot.

I had tried that twice in past when I was on Dorimanx kernel which screwed up the battery stats for a charge. It came back to displaying normal battery status after a while. Though I did not notice anything specifically good/bad on that matter.
Now it brings me to another doubt.. did i make the matters worse by resetting fuel gauge?

Cant agree with you on a dying battery concept, mate. I am getting such awesome battery life(depending on ROMs) (sometimes 2 days) that I do not think its something related to age of the battery. Its 2.5 years old but still going good, no heating, no sudden deaths.

I think your lucky with the aged battery i would say. Yes, rom plays a big rom here but then i have also noticed if your rom has lot of boot services to start then your cpu will be much active which puts load on battery for power and if battery is weak it will not be able to execute the requored power.

This is absolutely the cause of the problem you're seeing (beyond the misreporting stupidity suffered by all Samsung phones already discussed). Replace it.

Jokes apart, it has to give me more signs of aged battery like atleast low backup to start with.

Replace it just because it misses on reporting correct charge info on reboot? Don't you think it will be a little harsh on current battery?
Jokes apart, it has to give me more signs of aged battery like atleast low backup to start with.

Ya as i mentioned all sammy roms are full of junkies which custom rom keep away. As a result it demands less power on boot and keep users happy

Nope, as MistahBungle said already, apart from the the 'usual' Sammy battery reporting issues, a 2.5 year battery is the root cause of your problems.
And I don't agree that the reboot is actually using 40% battery to complete (or that a custom rom with its fewer processes will alleviate this). As I said, the voltage is being reported wrongly. However, you won't see the situation improve without buying a new battery. I suggest you buy a genuine Samsung replacement off eBay or similar, IMO there's no point stuffing around with fakes which aren't their claimed capacity.

A small attempt to buy an original battery lead me to the extended 2000 mAh battery link (EB-K1A2EBEGSTD) which I am not finding anywhere in India.
Has anyone bought it recently? or Does anyone has any information about where can I get in India?
I own one but I've had it for about 18 months. It is really good, but as I don't live in India I can't give you any tips for buying one sorry. I got mine off eBay.
