Phone doesn't reboot after flashing Siyah Kernel 5.0.1 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone won't reboot after flashing Siyah Kernel 5.0.1 with Mobile Odin. The Samsung logo and what I assume is a Siyah logo appears, but no matter what I try to get into (download/recovery/normal) it doesn't work. What is wrong? o;
Edit: I have a GT-I9100T on rooted stock 4.1.2 ROM and stock recovery btw.

Reflash rom it will restore stock kernel. What rom you on?
Edit: I9100 t. This for I9100.

Managed to get into recovery and download mode after a few minutes and flashed custom ROM, never been so glad to see the samsung start up logo. Ahh, that's the end of me messing with my phone...going to stick to stock ROM and kernel.

Probably best.

Happy for you mate!
I will give a probable explanation as to what happened:
Siyah v5.0.1 supports AOSP JB 4.1.2, but not stock JB 4.1.2! That's why ur phone didn't boot! You should have flashed v6.0b5.

Siyah - Dual Boot - Black Screen?

Not sure if i'm doing something wrong, essentially when i try to dual boot with siyah kernel 5.0.1 i just get black screen, if i boot my stock ICS it's fine, i've tried a few ROM's (all JB) and they all just black screen when trying to boot, turning off and back on and going into primary is fine - am i missing anything obvious?
yes you are missing the reading part about it in the siyah thread..
JB roms are not supported yet

well if its the early JB 4.1 based rom u can Dual boot using siyah 5.0.1, if its newer than that (4.1.2>4.2.1>4.2.2) then siyah v5.0.1 will not support the same, and u will get black screen on boot

That may be the issue, Its CyanogenMod 10.1 i'm trying which i assume is based on 4.1.2 or earlier, out of curiosity is it just a dualboot scenario that is unsupported. I.E. if i flashed with CM10.1 just on its own with siyah 5.0.1 it would work?

for cm10.1 u should use the latest siyah v6.0b5 since siyah v5.0.1 will not be able to boot CM10.1 as its based on android 4.2.1 for u

Do remember that CM10.1 isn't fully supported by Siyah v6.0b5 for now and u might face issues.
Better to install CM10.1 and stay with the stock Cm10.1 kernel that comes with it to get better results

Apologies, Won't CM 10.1 just run on top of the siyah kernel? or by flashing to it will it replace the kernel with its own
I'm not ultimately loyal to a kernel, i just want to run jelly bean on my S2
Thanks

[Q] upgrade to stock 4.1.2 without wipe ?

Hello all,
I've been waiting for my provider to release stock 4.1.2 but they are taking too much time...
Would you know which rom should I install to get the stock 4.1.2 and will I keep all my settings and apps ?
Also, does it have multiview and all the good stuff from the S3 ?
Lastly, I'm running stock 4.0.4 and emmc bug check says "sane chip".
Is there anything to know before upgrading to 4.1.2 ? Any trap or must know ?
Thank you all
I'll say go with alliance as great help on thread and multi window 4.1.2 change pretty much what you like to.. Look for thread alliance 7.2.

So many questions! A simple search on XDA could answer them all..
You can flash any stock firmware that your device (and carrier, if any) supports.
You may or may not lose your apps and settings after flashing a new ROM (depends). But it is advised to factory reset (wipe data) when switching from ICS to JB. You can always backup and restore, right?
Since ur on 4.0.4, do not perform factory reset before flashing JB. To wipe data while on 4.0.4, always switch to a custom (safe) kernel. There is no risk while flashing via Odin though.

Rooted and I have a EFS backup too.
I think I know how to flash: DL mode + Odin.
I'm just extra cautious as the only time I tried to flash a rom, I didn't know about the brick bug and went straight into it...
Now my phone has been replaced and the chip is "sane" so it should be safe to factory reset.
I'll do a nandroid backup and a titanium backup but I would like not to wipe.

--> they haven't released it yet... How can I tell ?
What are the benefits to run a stock rom ? It is more stable ?
What is it with odin. Flash through cwm. Stock is good but if your wanting more then go with multi window. Alliance is very good. Don't go with stock. These m/w come in stock form too. I like the look of stock why I choose alliance but it also has the aokp bit too so best of both worlds. Then there's rom customizer. Great app that works brill with the rom. It's just like mobile odin but Not

Ok, I will not go with stock
I had a look at Omega and Alliance, I don't see any difference,
Why would you recommend alliance over omega ? Did you try them both ?

I use Omega, and its pretty good too.. I think Alliance is also good.. it really depends on ur choice.
I chose Omega because they have torrent download links.. In India, torrents are better to download without risk of corrupting the ROM.

[Q] First time rooting phone Q about kernels.

So im want to root and try out some different roms.
My question is, is it ok for a beginner to start out using kernels such as Siyah ? I ask because i cant find a cf-root for jellybean.
And i have read the siyah thread and as i understand it, it supports most rom types for the SGS2, but to double check will it definitely support the android 4.2.2?
Big thanks for any help.

4.2.2? Or 4.1.2?
Look up the Build Number in ur phone's 'Settings - About Device'.
It should be a 5 letter word (like XXLSD).
Check for a Philz kernel for that build.

I think syiah vsync will but u have to read more about it ,why u dnt try dorimanx 8+(stock jb 4.1.2) its modified syiah . But if u r on stock jb how asnw said try philz its basicly cf for jb. If u flash cm10.1 4.2.2 it come with cm kernel most the time. Good luck

Big up dorimanx.
8. Is for ics and jb
9. Is for cm aokp roms.
Don't mix or boot loop will happen. Efs bk up would be good after root before move to custom rom. You need to read not as easy as it looks. No one wants a paper weight do they

Custom kernel CM10.1 - OTA updates still available?

I have CM10.1 nightly installed, all stock. If I decide to flash a custom kernel such as dorimanx, am I still able to update via CM10 updater?
I assume that it will override the kernel and I just reflash over again?
Any one confirm?
Cheers.

Try and feed bk or ask in cm thread. Reflash will give you stock kernel bk.

Updating via CM10 updater WILL replace ur kernel with the stock CM kernel.
You WILL have to flash Dori again.

HELP! about samsung galaxy s2 kernel and custom ROM

i rooted my device with a siyah kernel s2 v6.ob5+ on my samsung galaxy s2 i9100m. and it says on the website that it is not compatible with the cm10.1 custom rom. does any of you know how to change the kernel to something compatible with cm10.1? or do you know any custom rom compatible with this kernel? I AM OPEN TO ANY suggestions and recommendations. my battery wont last more than 3 hours with my rooted samsung galaxy s2 i9100m on official jelly bean 4.1.2. i need a better kernel or custom rom (4.2.2) that is friendly to my battery life. A BIG THANKS.
When u flash CM10.1, the Siyah kernel u now have is replaced by the CM10.1 kernel. So u won't have any issues.
Kernel supporting CM10.1 - Dorimanx
ROMs that Siyah v6 supports - Stock JB, custom JB ROMs based on stock JB (Omega, NeatRom, Alliance etc)
