Pandora skipping - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Just tried Pandora today and the music is skipping every few seconds. Tried it with both Beats on and off. Any other setting I could try?

I am having this issue too, but its with all music. The music stutters like every second or so. Sounds like a skipping record or something. I am on Trickdroid 5.1 with the audio mod. It also did this before that ROM (on stock at&t) it makes a sporadic popping/static noise when playing audio on main speakers but with headphones it just sounds like skipping. We need a fix or is this a defect?

I have the exact same issue on trickdroid and before I flashed it did the same thing. Even when the music is stored locally. What gives!?

Okay, this is happening on Pandora, Di.fm, PowerAmp and KERA radio app (Yes I listen to public radio sometimes)
It is NOT happening on HTC Music and FM Radio.
Those are "native" HTC apps, so I'm assuming this has something to do with the apps we are using that are not native to HTC One. Perhaps this has to do with how those apps interact with the built in amplifier or something. Which also leads me to believe it may not be a hardware defect but instead needs an update or maybe a kernel can fix it. What do you guys think? Do some testing and see if I'm right.

Yep. I can confirm this. I'm surprised this hasn't been more widely discussed
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app

I opened a ticket with HTC and they recommended to clear data/cache for the apps that were acting up and to wipe cache/dalvik. Did that and it didn't help.
I was on Bulletproof-1.1 Kernel but I switched to tbalden's kernel 1.0 hoping it might help but it didn't. It's just as bad. Not sure what can fix this, if anything...

Same issue on stock Sprint HTC One. Pandora skips, Google Music has no issues.

Static and skipping as well - on Pandora. I haven't really used google music much, though. I'll check it out. I thought it might be the batteries in my beats headphones, but it does it in my denali as well.
Android Revolution HD 6.0

I also hear it
I hear it on my DEV Edition Trickdroid 5.1
I don't remember if this happened on stock or not?

I restored my TWRP backup from before changing kernels and ROMs. I'm on 1.26.502.10 and the skipping/popping is gone. So this must be an issue with the 1.29 Software versions. So if you are having this issue I would recommend going back to a 1.26 version (at&t stock) until a suitable ROM is made for our devices. Does suck though, because we can't write to system on this version, so adblock never sticks

FML, I rebooted a few times, activated permissions Pro and AdAway and the skipping is back... But it was gone for a while there. So this is definitely software related from what I'm seeing.
Edit: FIXED IT! I disabled AdAway and the skipping is gone. WTF! How could having ad blocking on cause the skipping/stuttering...

WOW you're right!!

Two things, instead of settings > apps > Disable, go to the actual app and disable it from there, it will restore your hosts file (which should be blank except for localhost as mine is).
Also are you still on TrickDroid? maybe it is because of that? Try the above first and confirm your hosts file is empty system/etc/hosts

Considering i had not even opened up adblock and downloaded new host files

Well I can only say that it did work for me. I've been listening to Pandora for hours now while working with not a single skip, stutter or popping noise. It may be your firmware/ROM/radio or something. Here is what I am on with no problems now:
Bootloader:
M7_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RH
HBOOT-1.44.0000
RADIO-4A.14.3250.13
Android Version: 4.1.2
Sense 5.0
Software number: 1.26.502.10
HTC SDK API level: 5.12
Kernel version:
3.4.10-g3de55a2
After you disabled adblock and confirmed hosts file only had localhosts in it. You may wan to go and delete the data/cache of the apps like Pandora, YouTube, etc. then wipe cache/dalvik and see if it works. Otherwise you need to get the firmware/radio/kernel like I have above and it should work.
Like I said, all I did was disable adblock on this phone after restoring from my original at&t TWRP backup. Good luck man

Disabling adblock fixed the problem for me. No more stuttering when listening to Pandora. On a side note, is there a mod available on the HTC One that enables skipping tracks with pressing long press volume?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2

Just thought I'd update that I got trick DROID working by installing without adblock and that audio mod. Bulletproof 1.4 kernel. Pandora plays without the skipping.
Sent from my HTC One

Confirmed.
I disabled AdAway while listening to Pandora and as soon as I hit disable, the skipping stopped - even without a restart. I restarted, re-enabled AdAway, restarted and the skipping seemed to be resolved - until it went to the next track.
This was occurring for me with both Pandora and Google Music. I'm on TrickDroid 5.2.1.
Edit: I tried AdFree and it occurs as well. Both AdFree and AdBlock modify the HOSTS file. I tried AdBlockPlus and I did not experience the skips any longer. However, AdBlockPlus uses a proxy (I beleive) instead of modifying the HOSTS file and only seems to block ads in browsers, not apps.

Okay, I did some more troubleshooting and this is what I found:
AdFree/AdAway Enabled + Wired Headphones = Skips
AdFree/AdAway Enabled + Built in speakers = Skips
AdFree/AdAway Enabled + Bluetooth Headphones = No skips
AdFree/AdAway Enabled + Bluetooth car system = No skips
AdFree/AdAway Disabled + Wired Headphones = No skips
AdFree/AdAway Disabled + Built in speakers = No skips
AdFree/AdAway Disabled + Bluetooth Headphones = No skips
AdFree/AdAway Disabled + Bluetooth car system = No skips

[Q] Eclipse v2.02

Does anyone else have a problem with eclipse and bluetooth? I use a bluetooth stereo headset to listen to music and after a few minutes it cuts out and I have to reboot.
I use Bluetooth in my car and it works well. Not sure if its the same for headphones though.
Eclipse 2.0.2
I just sbf'd back to 2.3.4 and installed eclipse 1.3. going to see if that corrects it
I have a bluetooth stereo and I have disconnect issues as well on gbp7...not sure what the deal is, but I think it's the stereo cause the phone shows still connected and the audio doesn't get rerouted back to phone. You don't have to reboot, just toggle bt off then on. Plus the problem is random.
I never modified anything with the bt is why I think it's the stereo, but I ciudad be wrong. Ima try to get a log and see what the deal is.

So far music hasn't cut out...I believe it has something to do with v2.02 or the 2.3.5 update

Not to bust this, but on my end at least, I know I didn't mess up updating the device.
and the Eclipse 2.0.3 update does not change anything to bluetooth..
But I found the Problem.
By chance do you use Google Music as your default music app?
Anyway, I do and the problem is with that app(or maybe its in another setting which I doubt cause the problem persists on GBP7.)
Explanation:
I use a Bluetooth cd player in my car and I use google music to stream to my stereo. Every now and then I lose sound output on my CD Player(although both show connected). The problem would arise whether it was playing local music or streaming from google music. At first thought it was my phone, then I flashed Eclipse to test it out for a lil bit and the problem persisted. So I moved on to thinking it was the Stereo. Well, this morning I was at work(still am..) and I was listening to my music via ear plugs. I ended up getting a random "stop" although the music progress bar was still moving... I changed songs and still had no output. HERES THE KICKER!! I turned the volume up with the keypad and BAM! the sound started to produce out of my precious ear plugs....
I haven't had time to test this with the bluetooth stereo yet, but the problems had IDENTICAL symptoms, so I'm assuming this will work.
The random MUTE of the app is odd, and very random. Sometimes it wont do it for HOURS and then sometimes it will do it every 2 minutes or so. But for now, try to increase the volume(you can do this while screen is off if using Google Music, not sure about others) and see if it solves the issue for now. I will look into it and test with another music app(probably winamp) and see if the problem arises. If so, then I'll look into the system configuration and see if the problem is there. I know I didn't change any bluetooth settings in my ROM, and I haven't noticed any changes by Nitro in Eclipse. So this leads me to think its an APP problem.
I use juice defender and other custom settings for battery life, but I know for a fact those aren't the problems, so if anyone reading this looks into the issue, the problem is either Google Music or in the system configuration. So don't go looking into Juice Defender or other apps to be the problem.
Disregard...I am blind
Like stated.... It's not another app interfering.... Dsp manager is not on gbp7...

[Q] Pandora Causing Reboot in ICS roms?

Anyone else noticing Pandora causing a reboot in any of their ICS roms? I thought it was BT at first, but Mixest, Tune In, and Google Music do not cause any reboots.
This has happened on Joel's 0.9, CleanRom 3.6, and ICS 4.0.3 v2.7.3(which I believe uses a different kernel)

How long did you listen to those other apps? I'm trying bluetooth headphones with Google Music (Play Music) right now and I just had a reboot. So I'm not sure that it is just Pandora. It seemed to take a lot longer than Pandora did before a reboot.
Originally I thought that having it plugged into power might have had something to do with it but it still happened when just on battery using Pandora with BT.

I haven't had any issues running Pandora through the headphone jack yet. It is possible that my GMusic reset was due to Pandora still being open in the background even though it wasn't playing.
I have a feeling it is a combination of Pandora and Bluetooth somehow.
I also notice on CleamROM ICS ScoreMobile doesn't work either. Well, it works, but when you try to bring up the different leagues to view scores it doesn't show them. Not sure if it was a ROM problem or ICS problem, but went back to GB ROM and it worked.
Interesting post. I had an issue today with music through the aux port in my car. Using the stock music player was good. And so was power amp. But when I tried Pandora there was no sound. So I unplugged the aux jack from the phone, and there was still no sound. Same with google music/play. Also could not stream from tunee music. Wtf?
So I went back to the stock player and sure as ****, it works. I ended up having to reboot. And It's been fine for the last 4 hours, with or without the headphones. I'm running BAMF .9.
It only seems to be web based streaming that I was having problems with.

So, at this point I am to beleive that it is a issue with Pandora and BT. Tried all three ROMs again and still had issues with BT, but then ran through the headphone jack and ran Pandora for over a hour without issue. For giggles I tried HQ settings and car mode settings tinkering with the same results.

So universal ICS problem?

I know I am a bit late but I was able to stream Pandora over BT (Handsfree Link) just fine without issue. Occasionally the song would take a few seconds to to start but nothing other than that. For almost that entire time I only ran Joelz BAMF Rezound with the stock kernel.
My Rez is dead though so my replacement will not be here until today though. Would be perfect test for my long drive later today too.
Can anyone confirm that this is still an issue with the new leaked RUU? I'll be trying it today on CleanROM 4.0 SP1, but I was just curious if anyone else has noticed issues yet.
Edit: Confirmed. This is still an issue with the new leaked RUU. Tried Pandora with BT streaming on CleanROM 4.0 SP1 and still get a reboot after about 10 minutes of listening.
I don't want to jump the gun here, but after seeing this post, I tried running fix permissions and rebooting and so far I have been listening to Pandora on BT for almost an hour with no issues. I'll keep you posted.
Edit: Looks like I did indeed jump the gun. Got a reboot at almost exactly one hour.

You know what I just thought about? I've been running the "fixed" version of Pandora that FernandoSor had to take down based on version 1.5.15. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not but I'll update to the latest version today on my drive to LA and see how it goes. Will report back.
I just wanted to point out that unchecking Fast Boot does not change any of the effects. Reboots still occur and a full reboot is still necessary to regain bluetooth functionality.
Yup, I have the same issue, but its not local to just Pandora, I also get it when using the Google Music app, but I never paid attention to whether the reboot occurred when playing a track on the local sdcard or playing a track via streaming from the cloud.
Next time it happens, I'll try to see if it only happens when playing a song via stream, maybe the issue is narrowed down to that...
This is on CleanRom 4.0 btw

[FIX] DSPManager v1.0 (ICS 4.0.3/SENSE 3.6+4.0)

There's been talk in a lot of different device forums about DSPManager having no function or constantly force closing. The discussion here will be for sense 3.6/4.0 and ICS 4.0.3
I started a thread HERE on how to get DSPManagers' various functions to work properly but my previous method did not work for sense 3.6 or sense 4.0. Any development or ideas are more than welcome in this thread. I have made progress to a certain point but my inexperience makes it hard for me to pinpoint the cause of certain issues such as the app force closing.
Update 5/6/12
-No app force close selecting any enhancement
-All enhancements function properly
-Only got DSP v1.0 working(not V2)...for now
WARNING - This process will disable all other HTC audio effects (beats, srs, etc.) Other market app equalizers and sound enhancement software also may conflict with DSP so keep that in mind.
Awesome work. Can't wait to install and test.
Tested on MeanROM ICS 0.9. Caused the Music app to not be able to play music (said that the files were not supported). Had to dirty flash ROM to fix.

I had that issue some time ago...for me it was a temporary problem with the music app, when I tracked ahead or went to Library>Song it played my music after that. I don't think that issue is directly related to the files flashed in this .zip

With me, every song I selected did not work. I went into my library and selected different songs and kept getting the file type not supported error (which I normally do not get and did not get after reflashing the ROM).
According to MikeyXDA, global Beats breaks DSP Manager, Volume +, etc.

Also, the other guy above (mozman) seems to be having the same issue I did:

Hope that helps your quest to fix DSP Manager. When I get a chance, I'll try to reflash the DSP Manager zip and do as you suggest.

I've confirmed what you have said about beats and dsp. You must've been talking about using headphones which indeed will cause that error of not playing a file. I use Bluetooth devices so I'm fortunate to not have that issue. Try going into Apps>All and disable Music Enhancer. See if that works.
EDIT - nevermind I didn't have my headphones powered on everything worked fine, you should just try to reflash the Rom then the zip.

I know I'm the only one replying, but I really want DSP to work with Beats like it does on GB. So, I installed MeanROM 1.0 then flashed the zip. Using headphones, press play on song and get the unsupported file error. Select HTC Enhancer, song plays, then select Beats and the song plays, but DSP changes do not make any change to the sound. The app loads and changes can be made, but the sound does not change tone at all. When I try to play the next song, I get the unsupported file type error again and have to go through the above steps.

Anyone know if there has been any progress on getting DSP v2 for Sense 3.6 and 4 working?
thanks.. i'm going to try it..
DSPManager2
I experimented and come up with something that works for me. I have evo 3d s-off running viper 3d, it is sense 4.1
I just keep the sound enhancer on beats audio and do my EQ adjusting with DSP manager 2
You can try it and see. Just make a backup before flash!
DSP Manger
You may have to put sound enhancer on no effect for dsp manager2 to work on some roms.
Wow.
I really appreaciate this update. I didn't want to move out from CM by this.
Now I'm running ICS on Inspire4G using Trickdroid, this is the only component that was missing to be happy again!

Q: Stock Music app starts playing automatically

Hi, so I've noticed this happen a few times on my trips to and from work, usually when I have bluetooth enabled. Once this morning when I had bluetooth connected to my car stereo, but was just listening to the radio, I unlocked my phone and music started playing. It happened again when I shut my car off too.
I've looked all over the setting menu, but I feel like I must be missing something that I have enabled that's causing this. Either that or this is the beginning of Toby from Paranormal Activity choosing me as his next victim.
Any help is much appreciated.
I tried to re - create this with John Zaffis the Haunted Collector and he thinks Harold Ramis hid a secret back to the future sports almanac in your trunk. He wants to do an investigation, what day and time is good for u?
As for the music playing automatically I couldn't get mine to do it. I have poweramp and there is a setting in it to allow/disallow automatic play when bluetooth or headset is detected. If u have another music player see if you have that in settings and disallow it maybe. I tried digging through stock music settings and couldn't find anything.
Good luck with that almanac though. RIP Ghostbusters

There's an app in the playstore called blutooth connect and play that should let u control it better. It actually gives u settings that will allow u to pick what music player plays over bluetooth and if it autoplays or not when connected. Check it out.

So I think Voice Control was the culprit. I noticed twice this morning that the music started playing right when I started my car, and I think the sound of it starting triggered the voice.

Bass boost problems

I probably will never use the DAC feature as i never use wired anything anymore. I have a pair of Bob Marley headphones and a 2014 Kia soul that I use with the v30. This phone seems to put out no bass at all so I tried to get my Bass Booster Pro app that has been working for the last five years for my bass needs and it wouldn't mod any sound. I went around from site to site getting several recommended bass boosting equalizers but not a single one works(oddly). My previous phone the LG G5 didn't have this problem. I am on pandora a lot and cannot find anything to use with it. I use jetaudio for my mp3s and the effects through it are the only ones that I can hear a difference. But when I increase the bass at all it gets distortion from hell. Bass is actually a stress reliever for me and am trying to figure out what I can salvage with this phone or would it be better to just return it?

unfortunately the DAC is activated only by cable. regards
i was trying to get another eq to work but none seem to work. Base Booster Pro doesn't even work like it has for the last 5 phones.
i tried a lot still miss viper or dolby but noozxoide eizo-rewire works pretty well with pandora over blutooth. free on the playstore uninstall any other eq apps first

is noozxoide still working fine for you? I've been experiencing random crashes recently
No, I couldn't get it to work. Seems that the DC is overriding all equalizers even when DC is off. I contacted LG about it but all I was sent in response was how to turn DAC on and I already know how to turn it on and off.

it's a bloody shame that the devs stopped supporting the app, I've used and loved it since 2013

Alright, so at least for my case, I uninstalled Noozoxoide, turned my phone off+wipe cache, and changed the app settings for my native audio-processing app so that it is denied notifications, permissions, removed its default status, and cannot change system settings. After that I reinstalled Noozoxoide and launched it. Interestingly, when I went to settings I saw it was already set as a default app. Just to be certain I went ahead and gave it all the permissions also excluded it from battery optimization. Currently, when playing audio, Noozoxoide is listed under running services (in developer options) as "in use" and "started by application". The native app doesn't show up at all, having apparently been excluded from being used. So far Noozoxoide hasn't had any problems with crashing or being taken over by the native app.

So what app exactly did you deny notifications, permissions, and remove its default status? The native audio-processing app on my device (Verizon V30) is the Hi-Fi Quad DAC. Can't find an app associated with it anywhere...

simply switching it off doesn't work? can you find it under your system apps in your app manager? It might not be listed as "Hi-Fi Quad DAC" word-for-word.
