Recently got the new HTC ONE through Telus and little over a couple days it has been stolen from me.
I'm wondering now if there is any way for me to track it on regular google account and facebook has been setup on it, but the phone does have a secure security code to unlock the screen.
Does the carrier have anyway of finding this if someone tries to stick in another SIM? Granted they are also a telus user or am I hooped on this one?
I'm assuming a person with the right know-how or buddy could likely access the boot load reset the thing and unlock it and use it, but i'm hoping this isn't the case and I can still track it via some other way?

HTC use to offer the ability to track your phone if it was powered on. Or you could remotely lock and/or wipe the device. This was through the HTC sense website. I don't know if they still offer this feature or not. If they don't I'd recommend calling your carriers support line and see what they can do.

I doubt anything's gonna come about this. Phones get lost or stolen every day and even with todays technology very few get found or returned. Also police have better things to do then track someone's lost phone. And I say lost better than stolen because how are you sure that the phone was stolen and not lost? Did you get held up or did the person physically took it off for you?
I would suggest getting insurance next time.

Android has no built-in phone tracking capability. This is something you need to have installed yourself on the phone, or something the manufacturer includes. HTC used to do this, but no longer offers the feature.
Report your device stolen to the carrier (you may also report it to the police, but they won't do anything), so that when someone uses it on the network, they won't be able to. Most carriers will not alert you that your device has been found or anything like that. They simply blacklist the IMEI and that's it. If you don't have insurance, then you are pretty much on your own.
Your carrier may offer their own location tracking capability that you can add to your account, and that may allow you to track the phone (if they haven't already wiped the phone and removed your SIM card). Check with your carrier.

What does blacklisting the IMEI do? Could the individual just unlock it with a internet bought code and jam in any sim card and make it work after the fact? Or by blacklisting it if someone brought it to TELUS would they then be able to seize it as a stolen/ lost phone?

Blacklisting an IMEI will not allow someone to use that device on the network. This is something that has only recently caught on in the United States. T-Mobile and AT&T now block IMEIs that have been reported stolen/missing, while Sprint and Verizon have been doing it for a while. When you put your SIM into a blocked phone that tries to run on a supported network, you'll get a message that says the phone cannot be used.
Of course, this depends on your carrier. You may want to ask what your carrier does with lost/stolen IMEIs, as they may have different policies.

works only with Android 2.1-2.3! But maybe a good one for these Version!
Did you try Android Device Manager to locate it? It's in the settings menu on the play store website.

For the future try an app called Cerberus anti theft, it's a really great app to have. It has a free week trial so you can try it out, after that it cost $2.99 euro which is a little under $5 in US, also it's a one time fee and not a subscription. Just go online and track your phone and do many other things.

I know there are a lot of threads and tutorials on how to do this, but my question is who is currently using a Sprint Touch pro with verizon and how are you doing it? I read that verizon blocked the way that everyone used to do it with *228 option 3, and I wanted to know if there was an alternate way of doing it before I go and buy one.
I am right now, got mine in while the loophole was still open. There is a way to have the esn added by calling cust service but it may take numerous calls to find someone who knows how to add the esn into the system. I am thinking of selling mine. I wonder if it has been on the account once if it will be able to be activated like normal since it was in the system once? I may toy with this and reactivate my vogue then try to reactivate my tp. Might be a plus for a selling point if i can...
No it wont reactivate, if you used the loophole and switch devices it will not reactivate.
Trust me I did this and had to do an ESN repair to get it working again.
I have been looking at the specs for the alltel TP and it seems that they are really similar to Sprints, and if it is known that a sprint TP will not work with verizon anymore i will just get the Alltel one. since verizon bought them it should be easier to add the Alltel one than the sprint one, they might not like it and try saying they can't but I am sure I can get them to do it. thanks for all your help.

No Dice on the Alltel Touch Pro on the VZW network! At least for me.
I think the sprint touch pro will work on vzw. The main thing is to setup the phone first and then some how get them to add the esn. That is what i had to do to get alltel to add my sprint touch pro.

There is a request form where you can fill out the phone make, model, and ESN and email/fax it into the people that actually do it for you. I've performed the request without fail. If I can remember to get the request form, I'll post it here as soon as I can.
if you know how to get the esn added, i would love to find out. i went round and round with verizon customer service, sales, tech support and store reps about trying to get a sprint mogul setup for my girlfriend. everyone kept telling me it couldnt be done or they dont do that. found the entry in their websites faq that states they do before anyone would listen to me. was finally told i had to send the phone to their development evaluation center before they could activate it, and that it would take three weeks! so if you have an easier way, please, enlighten me! ps..didnt mean to jack the thread

all they will do is change the settings to be compatible with their network, nothing that you can't do yourself. here is some info about how to do it yourself.

Take it to a TMO store, I doubt anyone here will be too willing to help giving the possibility that you may have a stolen device.
If it is rooted there is a way, I don't have the link, but you use adb to pull and edit one of the db's , if it is not rooted, then most likely SOL ...

The phone is locked regardless. There is an android bug that doesn't allow the phone to verify the google credentials after you try the pattern lock too many times. Even if if was the OP's actual phone, he'd need to either factory reset, flash a new rom to the device, or get a replacement phone.
No one here will be able to help you get past it. There were security holes that allowed people to bypass it, but Google has sinec patched those, without fixing the fundamental issue (users, their children, their friends locking them out and basically "bricking" the device for all intents and purposes).
You got got, and it's probably a stolen device (not saying you stole it, someone else could have).
If you go to T-Mobile they will ask for you account information and check the IMEI against you account. T-Mobile uses different bands as AT&T so there aren't that many people buying Vibrants up front to unlock them and use them on different carriers, TBQH. If that IMEI belongs to someone else (it's even on you contract/reciept), they won't replace the phone. They will assume it's stolen.
Maybe if you start a contract/new line the reps in the store may help you out, though.
However, contacting Samsung may yield better results, but I think the Warranty is handled by T-Mobile, unless it's a hardware defect (hardware locked devices and pattern lockouts are both software issues).

you should definitely call t-mobile and tell them. they can lock the phone by tracking your IMEI or something, rendering the phone useless (that is, if the guy isn't a tech wizard). As for getting a new phone, if your insurance covers it, then you should ask them for one. I doubt it, though, because every time I wanted a replacement phone, I had to send them my old one.
they may not be able to locate your phone w/o the sim card in there. if you have the box with the imei or ssid number, that would be your best bet.

Without insurance, if you came to my store or called CARE we would be able to see how long it's been since you purchased your Vibrant. You would probably get a very minor discount, if any. You're pretty much close to buying one outright so it's best not to use any kind of early upgrade unless it's a good deal.
As for blocking an IMEI, I don't know why people continue to suggest this. I have never been able to call in an get a phone blacklisted or blocked after it's been stolen. Maybe they just don't like me or I'm calling the wrong people.
Some ideas for your next Android. On our store demos we either install Lookout or SmrtGuard. Lookout seems to be the better of the two apps because you can remote activate GPS and track the phone. However, with SmrtGuard you can setup SIM Guardian that will register your SIM and when someone inserts another into the phone the phone will send a text to a number you assign or an e-mail. You can also track with GPS by this app.
Again, I've never been able to get T-Mobile to track a phone for a customer just because of theft. It has to be a serious crime with the police involved.

T-Mobile doesn't track phones without a court order, and u wont get that unless you were robbed beaten up and probably almost killed.
Its the thieves phone now welcome to GSM.

Happened to me, BTW. You're sol and nothing anyone else says here that is different has a chance of being true.
Tell assurion u lost it, cause for stolen phone they require a police report (no the cops will not try to find ur phone, either)...
Cdma carriers block esn. GSM carriers make more money. With phones being easily factory resettable you have to tether yourself to a GSM phone to avoid getting pwnd.

Ur SOL son. Next time watch ur stuff more closely. FYI there an app called Kor.im phone locator that will send u an email if ur another sim card is put into u r phone. The email will contain the new sim cards serial number which will help track down who has ur phone. That is if they don't reset the phone, erasing the app in the process.

Anyone with a brain will factory reset before they put a sim in the phone, and most security apparently run on the phone with obvious notification bar icons visible.

Yes that word is offensive, even if using it towards a thief, it is still offensive. You don't have to be gay to take offense, you just have to have common sense. I don't like that word just as much as I don't like the N word.

That doesn't matter. The factory reset option in Android is too easy to get to, and too easy to perform. It isn't even password-protected. The 3 button method can be done 5 minutes after swiping the phone on the way to the local library to list it for sale on CraigsList.
The only way to make sure someone can't profit/benefit from stealing your phone is to not use a GSM carrier in the United States. Use a CDMA carrier.
The companies care more about their bottom line than what's right. I had this argument with Assurion and T-Mobile when my phone got stolen.
Even with a pattery lock on the phone, unless it's a hardware locked phone it only takes 5 seconds for them to completely wipe the phone clean, pop their SIM card in, and brag about the new phone they got for Christmas.
9/10 the phone ends up getting sold, though.
The carriers are more than able to blacklist the IMEIs, but without inter-carrier cooperation that is kind of useless.
So wait a minute. I can lose my vibrant, and I can report it lost and T-Mobile nor Assurion will block the IMEI? Someone on T-Mobile can find my phone, put in their SIM card, and T-Mobile will do nothing? They won't block the phone? They won't even call the person who is using my phone and kindly ask them to return it?
Well I don't really know why I'm asking, I already know the answer. I've lost a T-Mobile phone before, and they admited someone was using my phone, but they said they couldn't do anything about it for me, not even a courtesy call asking the finder to return it.
T-mobile has a record of every single sim card that has ever been placed into a phone. Even if you stick your sim card in there for 5 seconds, as long as it registers on the network, they keep the sim info documented.
It just shocks me, even at a customers request, that they wouldn't block the IMEI number on their own network.
Hi! So I have this phone, the Samsung Fascinate. I love this phone. But soon I'm not going to have an actual cell phone plan and want to keep using this phone. I'm planning to switch over to those Pay as you Go plans, where I buy a card and fill up minutes. here's my question. I want to jailbreak this phone so I can do that, how would I go about doing this? And would I be able to access the net and everything? Would I have to stick with Verizon and use their prepay service or could I switch to a different company? I need to be able to call, send/recieve texts, and be able to use the web. If any one of these is missing, it's not worth it to me. Get what I'm saying? lol. So yeah, any info?
EDIT: So I've done more research, this is actually UNLOCKING that I want to do. Same questions apply. I've never unlocked a phone before. I've rooted several android phones, but never unlocked them to work on different networks. If I can unlock it and be able to use a prepay or pay as you go service, I'd be so happy. (cause they rip you off with contracts)

It's possible, but it's incredibly more difficult then flashing roms and rooting. You will actually have to figure out all the pass codes, apn settings and proxies (if applicable). Getting talk and sms is a breeze...it's the net, market, gps and mms that's a *****. Save yourself the headache

There are some apps in the market. SGS tools and Captivate SGS that will help you find the codes you want, also one click root has a tab for unlocking phones i know it says Samsung Captivate but i think it works on the Fascinate as well, it has been a long time since i worried about that. The apps are in the market and here is the one click link.

Fyi, the info you provided will not assist him in flashing the phone to another carrier. Rooting a phone has almost absolutely nothing to do with changing providers. He will require provider ppp settings for net, provider apns for mms, provider prls for tower locations and possibly provider mip information. All of these are unique values he will manually have to enter.
Edit: How do I know? Read my sig...and I'm responsible for helping several others on xda attempt and succeed. Very few succeed on lesser known plans...

I haven't ever utilized vzw pay as you go plan, but I would imagine it would be a proxy type. The trick however is contacting vzw directly and asking them if they will allow it bc i'm sure the esn is already registered. That can be bypassed however I enjoy my freedom and don't feel comfortable sharing esn changing knowledge. If you had a vzw party as you go phone, I would suggest reading from the phone and replicating the values over to the fascinate.
I'm working on a Samsung A10 for someone. Model is SM-A102U. running Android 9.
It is stuck with FRP and I'm pretty sure the SIM needs to be unlocked, since I am in Canada and the phone is T-Mobile branded-----pretty sure T-Mobile doesn't have shops in Canada.
I have tried a couple FRP bypass methods but 1. Using a USB dongle doesn't induce file manager to open so I can run an APK.
2. I have tried SamsungFRPTool v1.5, but I can't get the USB debugging prompt to appear on the phone so that the process can be completed.
I may just kill two birds with one stone and flash a clean stock ROM onto the phone. Thoughts or suggestions?
Never buy a Samsung that has a Google account on it! The seller should remove their Google account and factory reset from settings before selling it. This would prevent this. By now it's hardly a secret and if FRP is active the phone's legal status is questionable. If the IMEI is blacklisted, you're boned. Best solution is to return to the seller for a refund.
I have no idea if this will work, but it seems your current solution will not work.

I am able to get the IMEI number, how can I check if it's blacklisted?
It's a little complicated though, because the phone is locked to T-Mobile, (American company), whilst I am servicing the phone for use in Canada. A T-Mobile blacklisting may not be relevant outside of the countries of jurisdiction, but it certainly isn't a simple matter.
Edit: I just checked the IMEI via DeviceCheck.ca and it comes up clean. However, like I said, this phone is locked to a US carrier, and I used a Canadian blacklist check.

Blacklisted is blacklisted, I believe, it's not by country. If the phone wasn't paid off to T-Mobile they could still blacklist it. Maybe contact them.

So there is actually a Samsung specific IMEI check, and it actually yielded more info. The phone is nearly 3 years (estimated) old and is long past warranty according to that info.
Seems to be good. T-Mobile, like many US carriers would likely stonewall, and there are no local T-Mobile locations in Canada for the in person check they tend to require---if they would be helpful at all.

T-Mobile stonewalled as expected. I guess I need to enable USB debugging from recovery to do anything with ADB? Can this be done? I did not see anything for Odin in this phone's recovery menu either...

But it doesn't mention HOW to inject the code it refers to that enables USB debugging.
This may actually open the door to a solution though!
