Instagram - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So basically my Instagram account was disabled. Well I guess you can say my phone is disabled since I can log into that account on other people's phone. I tried a number of things and it is so frustrating because we can do so much on our phone and I can't seem to get this. I tried changing my Android ID, Reflashing ROM, clearing cache and doing a factory reset. I did multiple things. If anyone at all has any idea what I could try it would be much be appreciated and maybe a donation. I tried multiple times to get in touch with Instagram and no matter what I say in the email I still can not get any reply.

Your Gmail Account is pretty much Banned.

On iphones they ban your apple ID and phone data. On android (pretty sure) they ban you through gmail and other phone data, which for android is essentially your phones (account) id for on your specific phone. So pretty much your screwed unless you want to create a new gmail and wipe your phone which is a pain in the ass and could still prove fruitless. The only reason your account gets into this state is from the content you post. If you posted a controversial picture recently, something offensive, vulgar, explicit that's probably what did it. If the prior steps didnt work or you dont want a new gmail, you can try contacting Instagram through the correct email- help.instagram.com/customer/portal/emails/new

Thanks for your reply.. I was thinking about deleting my gmail account to see if that would work but I don't want to delete it knowing that it might not work. I know what I posted and I am well aware of the rules. I have tried to contact IG but they clearly say if your account was banned then you will not get a reply. So yeah.. They never reply.. If I knew for a fact that if I delete my gmail account that it would work I might do it.. I had this email since the G1 and it's my main email.. But if they banned your gmail along with something else that I can't change then like you said it would prove fruitless. Has anyone had their account banned and was able to get back on there? Any other suggestions? Thanks sofyanator.
EDIT: Also when you say wipe phone do you mean wipe cache, dalvik and reset phone flash a rom and log in with another gmail account?

No problem. But you don't have to "delete" your gmail. Just make a new gmail to use with instagram. First off you should, make a second gmail, most people have one designated from spam. Make a new instagram with the new gmail and just follow everyone. Or, if you have the time, back up then factory reset and plugin the new gmail with the gapps setup. And if that doesn't work and you really really want to keep this current account, you said it worked on your friends phone, so you could wait out a new phone or do a warranty upgrade.

The ROM I am using currently is stock. I do have a second gmail account. I did make a new account but with my outlook email. The same email I used to send IG an email claiming I just bought a new phone on Craigslist and when I tried to log in it says my account has been disabled. But of course they did not send an email back which I am not sure why.. They could of said something back.. I do want IG bad but I just got my phone It's not even a year old. Next time I update the ROM on my phone I might try and clear cache, dalvik and factory reset then flash the ROM and sign in with my other gmail account to see if that works.. I just wish somehow someone can edit the IG app like they did the Pandora app with unlimited skips. Maybe they can edit the IG app so it won't check email or whatever it is to stop you from signing in when your phone is disabled.
EDIT: WOW! Funny! So I am looking at different threads on here and I seen someone say to download IG 1.1.1 and sign in the update it from the Play Store but it wouldn't let me sign in unless I update. So I was looking at more stuff and it said clear ram when you sign in and BOOM! It worked.. I am surprised. Thanks bro.

I'm having the same issue, could you please explain in detail how you went to install the IG 1.1.1 and clearing the RAM, for some reason it isn't working on my HTC One.
I installed IG 1.1.1 go to sign up and it tells me I have to update it, now at this point do you update it or no?
I didn't see a choice but to update it so I did. I opened IG and went to sign in, where do I clear the RAM? I went into my applications but IG doesn't show up in my current processes.
Could you perhaps walk through it step by step so maybe others having this same issue won't have as much trouble as I am. Thanks

OMG I figured it out lol.
Ok so here are step by step what I did, I may have done more steps but better safe than sorry.
1.) I downloaded and installed IG 1.1.1
2.) Downloaded and installed app "RAM booster" from the play store, it's free.
3.)Ran IG 1.1.1 and went to sign in, it says you must update it. so I hit the home button on my phone to go to my mainscreen, leaving IG at sign up (user name and password screen)
4.) updated IG in play store
5.) opened IG and went to sign in screen, don't log in. Hit home screen to go back to your main screen leaving IG at username and password screen.
6.) open RAM booster and click "boost now"
7.) go back to IG, it should still be at the username and password screen.
8.) sign in and your should be in now.
Hope that help guys.

And when you say you can sign in, are you signing into the account that was banned? Or are you now able to create a new account? Using the same or a new email address? My account was banned a few days ago.

Can't delete Facebook/Twitter accounts linked to Motoblur?

Have a rooted Atrix on .83, and I don't want the phone to sync with my contacts on facebook and all.
I tried to set social applications to sync over wifi only, doesn't help.
I want to completely remove the accounts.
When I go to remove them, I get either an "account canot be removed" error, or when on wifi, the "removing account" loading bar freezes up forever. I tried leaving it there for 30 minutes, didn't get anywhere either.
I'm only rooted with sideloading enabled, no other mods.
Anyone know how to delete these accounts WITHOUT factory reset?
I'm not in a position to reset anything right now at the moment.
Thanks
Not sure if this is entirely what you want, but revoke access to the application (I think it's MotoBlur) on Facebook. It's in the privacy settings page, at the bottom, where you control the apps.
That is, if facebook didn't move them. Again. For the 87th time.
Edit: Look through twitter's settings pages, it's in there too. I don't visit it too often so I don't remember it.
@Mgamerz shameless self promotion
Launch Accounts app
and in that you can remove your facebook account
Lol at the shameless self promotion
I don't want my phone to sync any contacts or contact photos at all with twitter or Facebook, too much to sync that my com.motorola.providers.contacts is using up way too much battery (about 20+ minutes of CPU time)

The accounts app is where the errors occur.
Might try using a privacy guard program to deny accounts data access unless you allow it. That is a lot of manual work though. Doesn't the settings menu have sync over Wifi only? Or does it not work?
Edit: read your post. Will update reply shortly
Sent from my Motorola Atrix 4G on the network with the most backhaul, whatever that is. This post might have errors as I hate touchscreen keyboards.
Another freaking edit: I juts removed my FB account from the accounts app. It froze while at the 100% mark, but finished a few seconds later. If you don't want it to be able to sync, and you don't want to reflash, and can't get it to work, revoke motoblur's access to facebook and twitter from facebook and twitter side.
I can see where Motorola would want to make it a pain in the ass to remove them though.
I currently have it set to sync only over wifi, but the phone seems to be syncing over cellular data anyway (or attempting to, no contact info ever changes)
As for denying service, that may work, but I need to find a way to disable these accounts all together. I'm guessing that it won't attempt to sync if it has nothing to sync with.
Read above edited post
You were able to remove it? Are you rooted or anything?
Mine just freezes at 100% forever :/
Rooted 1.8.3 stock. Only have the webtop hack. Did you try revoking access? That might make motoblur make you reenter your password. Then it might allow you to remove it.

I spoke to them earlier today, the reps said "the only way to remove those accounts is by doing a factory reset"
bullsh!t
To my immense surprise, I managed to get rid of Facebook from Motoblur without a factory reset. I was lead to this thread by searching and I had the exact same problem as you. I don't know which step was responsible for my success so I'll describe all of them:
- go to Facebook and revoke permissions for Motoblur. I also changed my FB password for good measure. Wait a few hours.
- Settings - Applications - Manage Applications. Choose the "all" tab then scroll until you find the Motoblur Accounts and Accounts Storage.
- Clear data for both
- turn off your phone, unplug and remove battery. Wait for 30 mins. Replace battery and reboot.
- go to Motoblur accounts and try to delete your FB account again. It should work.

[Q] Google Talk Push Notification

Hey, so this question is vaguely an Android issue in general not particular to the Evo 3D, but since I have one, I figured why not. Anyway, does anyone else have issues with Apps that rely on push notification? For example, I have an application called Seekdroid that tracks your device and cell information, however the information is only sent when I open up Google Talk. And even if I try to locate it again 10 minutes later, I'll need to re-sign in to Google talk. Also, the Chrome to Phone app gives me the same issue, links will not push to my phone unless I sign out and back in, to Google Talk. So what's so special about the Google Talk app? Are notifications all pushed through the device through there, and any way I could work-around signing back out and in every time I need information pushed. (Lol, an app that tracks a stolen phone is not that useful if Google Talk must be signed in- and out, for it to send back the tracking data.)
Strange
I use Google Talk and Chrome to Phone and I never have to sign out and into Talk for CtoP to work and I use it all the time while at work. I say this only to suggest that it might not be an Android issue, just something with your phone. Wish I could help further.

Based on this information, it does seem to be an issue more perticular to your device and the android account authentication process. A few quick suggestions which come to mind and shouldn't take too much time and could potentially resolve the issue:
1) Assuming you're rooted, I would go into the /data/data directory for google talk and wipe out all the files there. This process effectively forces google talk to reinitialize the whole application from scratch erasing anything corrupt settings which might have developed. It also forces the application to authentic again and hopefully save down the correct settings files for itself.
2) Re sync the google account on the phone. One way of doing this is by removing the account from the device and adding it back again. I dont think this will work with the primary account only with alternate accounts.
Not 100% sure if either of these issues will work for your specific issue but I know when I've experienced push/sync issues with Gmail, probably uses same/similar authentication as google talk, wiping out the data settings directory clears the issue up very quickly!
I'm sure if there are other ideas/approaches ppl will post up. Let us know what you try and whether it works or not. Hope that helps!
Hey thanks for the suggestions but unfortunately I tried them, but they didn't work. Are you using more than one Google Account on your phone? I''m using two Google accounts but only one of them has talk linked to it, I'll try making a talk for the other account.
Only one

I only have one account linked to mine. Maybe try removing the other account. You could always try Titanium backup and a full wipe and just start over. I know this sucks but it does work sometimes. I thought joeykrim's suggestions were pretty good, and if those didn't work, you might have to start all over.
Good Luck
Hmm...Ill try removing the account, but this is a problem that's persistent on any rom I'm on.

the only other thought which came to mind....
i was looking around in the google talk application settings and the very first option listed at the top is, automatically sign in. do you have this checked?
that appears to be the only setting regarding sign in/out i'm seeing in google talk. i do have this checked and i know ppl seem to randomly send me messages which must mean i'm appearing online, even though i rarely open google talk, maybe once a week at most.
i'm still thinking it is an account sync'n issue as there aren't that many moving parts to the process .. one other idea as i'm typing, maybe having 2 factor authentication turned on would impact it? do you have that turned on for your account?
hopefully one of these ideas helps! keep us updated!
I have automatically sign in checked, I unchecked it to see if it'll help but still nothing. Sorry but I don't quite understand what you mean about the authentication thing.
So still no luck, I tried signing in to both of my Google accounts on my pc, making sure Google Talk was working via the browser. I tried chrome to phone many times, and tried tracking my device via the Seekdroid app nothing happens. Opened Google Talk and shows me signed in and available as always. Signed out, and signed back in on the app, and as expected all my links that I pushed came through, and the app was able to send the tracking information. However if I wait five minutes, I'll need to re-sign out and back in for the chrome to phone and seekdroid to do its job.
Okay Good News and Bad News. I finally figured out that it's nothing to do with my Google account, but it's my wifi network. As soon as I switched to 3G everything works perfectly without even touching the Talk App.
So now my question is, what will cause me to have to re-sign in and out of Google talk for the info to get sent to my phone when I'm on wifi?

Problem with Android Market after Factory Reset.

Hey all, I have stock,non-rooted,locked, OTA'd rezound.
I've tried everything in the general forums for this problem, so now I'll come here and ask to see if anyone has any other possible solutions.
I've done multiple factory resets today, and tried several different methods of re-adding my google account (which is a google apps for your domain account) so it's not @gmail.com but @mydomain.com
Everything works great, sync, gmail app, gtalk, youtube.. you name it. Great. Even the market place, for downloading 'free' apps.
As soon as I try and download an app I have to pay for I get a little window that pops up that says "Google sign-in You entered the wrong password or your account has changed. Please re-enter your password. Username [email protected]" and then just fails to accept my actual password. (i've tried changing my password a few times too!)
Here's everything I've tried:
1. Clearing the Market App Data and Cache.
2. FactoryReset: try and use the old market app before it gets updated.
3. Youtube account issue: disabled the youtube service on my google app domain, and factory reset- and tried again... no dice.
4. Tried putting on a real @gmail.com domain, and that works just fine. try and switch to @mydomain and it fails again.
I've done a factory-reset before every different style of attempt. I'm guessing something else is going on :-\
When I logon to the market through the web, I can purchase apps and they install without a problem! So it's something to do with the market app.
Anyway, just looking for any other ideas I may have overlooked. You're a pretty thorough community so I think I can trust you all would have something for me to try!
Before my factory-reset, everything worked fine with my google apps domain account.
TL;DR: My google apps domain account I normally use won't let me purchase apps on the marketplace anymore, it says the password has changed but all other google services work just fine!
I remember reading something way back when I first got the phone in late November about people having issues with the Market app. I never had an issue so I didn't pay much attention to it but you should be able to find a thread about it from back then.
Something about using a different apk? Or maybe deleting the app and redownloading it?
Sorry I don't have the actual answer but I thought I could at least point you in the right direction until someone else does.
EDIT: This may not be the same issue but one of the solutions that suggests to clear cache may help you. Can't hurt to try it out.
posted by danutzz: Open app drawer > tap menu button > click remove app > click all > find market and click > click clear cache and clear data...

Are you using Google Two-Step login verification?
Did you accidentally leave yourself logged in to another computer, like at work, where somebody else might have gained access to your account?
Sent from HTC Rezound using Tapatalk.
Great questions:
No I've turned 2-step verification off.... what if I turn it on, and try and get a different password out of it? I'll give it a go.
Account is definitely not compromised. good to go here.
Break Through Achieved...
My Google Wallet account has been suspended, because when I changed my password I used the google domains administrator panel, and not my google account 'change password'. this made google think the administrator changed the password because the account was compromised.
google wallet has a lengthy but acceptable process for regaining access to your account.
I'll go update all the general forums with this if it works... thanks for all your patience.
Also, google.com/wallet shows a good explination of why all other apps work fine, and not purchases...
Google Wallet Account Reinstatement
Your Google Wallet account is currently suspended. The account was suspended as a precautionary measure to protect your payment information because Google detected that an administrator at your organization initiated a password reset for your email address. However, this suspension only affects your access to Google Wallet, and you should still have access to your other Google Apps services such as Gmail, Calendar, and Sites.
If you would like to reinstate Google Wallet on your Google Apps account, please contact us. You will be required to verify your identity to reinstate your Wallet account.
You may also wish to sign up for a new Google Wallet account using a personal e-mail address, rather than your Google Apps account. Creating a new Wallet account using a personal email address will reduce future suspensions of your Google Wallet account for password changes. If you don't have an alternative email address, you can create a new email address with Gmail for free.

I'm having the same problem (using google apps account, admin reset password, no purchasing market apps etc etc)
When I log in to google wallet, I see the message you posted above, with a link to click to contact google. However, this link just redirects endlessly to the same message.
Can you remember how you managed to get in contact with google to have the suspension lifted?
Thanks

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. I just emailed Google wallet help support telling them the problem and by the next day I got a reply saying something like "we can now confirm that your Google wallet is now working and able to make purchases" Sure enough they fixed it and haven't had a problem since.

Where did you even email them? It's like an endless loop on their help center where you can't get to an actual contact form, just has to match one of their issues. I swear while I like a lot of google services, their support leaves very little to be desired.

can't send gmail after restore??

I recently restored an amora backup & now I can't send email from my gmail account, but it receives it just fine.
When I try to send one, it says "sending" in red letters but never sends it.
I tried to delete the account & redo it, but it's telling me the only way to delete the account is factory reset the phone.
NVM, I got it working

yea, that's what fixed it but I had to do it three times before it worked for some reason.
plus, it made me change my gmail PW which really pissed me off because I have had that PW forever & I like it (I don't care about security in my gmail)
Whatever, it's working now.....

It only deletes stuff on phone like downloads and password info or something, not emails, right? I know that's kind of a dumb question but I never used email on my last phone and want to be sure.

Yeah, it'll just clear the app data. It won't actually delete any emails from the Gmail server.

"Sign-in error" popup...Triangle with !

EVO 4g LTE running Fresh ROM 5.3.1
So Friday I was using my phone all day on Fresh 5.2.1 and didn't have any trouble at all...went to bed and woke up Saturday to a popup message in the corner that said sing in error for "blank"@"blank.com" (blanks were one of my email accounts fyi it didn't actually say blank) click here to sign in. When I click it says signing in------ the it says "Couldn't sign in" "A problem occurred while communicating with Google servers. Please try again later. That's it...no matter how many time I try it says the same thing. If I go home it will go away for 10 or so minutes then come back. All my data for that account (which is my main account on the phone) works fine...email...contacts...internet...everything. I tried everything from clearing the cache in the play store to disabling Google+ from my account through the computer to "uninstalling" all the extra Google apps, uninstalling the update to the play store killing the services that I didn't recognize even going to the account and unchecking all the boxes so it doesn't sync anything...it still pops up. I updated to the newest version of Fresh in hopes that would help...nothing. I wiped the phone on Sunday and restored to factory wiped Dalvik/Cache everything. Loaded the main account again and nothing...never saw the error again. After a few hours I loaded all the rest of my accounts and programs back to the phone and all was good. UNTIL today. My phone was in my pocket and I must of had the power button mashed down because I felt it buzz and when I looked it had restarted....and what do you know when it was back on THERE IT WAS AGAIN...the stupid "sign in error" popup AGAIN...someone please HELP!

Maybe it could be push malware. Have u downloaded any apps outside the market? Have u tried airpush detector from playstore?
Any app that has certain permissions
can see your email. What better way to get your password?

what is your email client? is it hotmail?
HTC EVO LTE
I have not but will try airpush...and my email client is my website (@blahblahblah.com) not really blah blah blah it is through godaddy and is handled through google apps...so once i set up all my dns settings with google they handle the mail portion for me. I have had it set up this way without change for over a year with no problems and I still get all my emails to my pone
I just tried airpush detector...it didn't find anything
It could be something that requires 2 step authentication, you would need to finish the setup for that error to go away. Just a stray thought
I just changed my password...and it still pops up with the same error but recognizes that I changed the password and prompts me to actually enter it. but I still get the same failed to communicate with google servers message. I even deleted the whole account from the phone and I still get the popup error
Hmm...I've had this issue with stock sense but I don't remember how I fixed it, I think I eventually did a factory reset
Did u do one of the YouTube streaming mods where u changed http settings or anything?
Try cleaning cache and dalvik or maybe even google caches and hotmail? I'm at a loss here.
No I didn't do any youtube mods or anything...I have cleared all the cache from any google app I have including the play store...I will try and just clear the main cache and dalvik...I want to say I have done that also but can't remember. Also...now that the account is removed from my phone it still pops up with the error...but now I get a menu button...when I click it it lets me login from browser...it takes me to what looks like a gmail login screen with my email already filled out and a password box to type in. I put my password in...it flashes to a black screen with the signing in progress bar going across the top...then disappears. All looks good at this point...BUT sure enough about 5 minutes later...sign in error popup again.
On a side note...I know it isn't a problem with dns settings or the host because with google apps you get up to 10 email addresses from my 1 domain that I own. My wife has her own set up the same way on the same phone running the same ROM/RADIO and virtually the same programs...Hers runs fine
Clearing the cache and Dalvik didn't solve the problem...I have now added the account back to the phone...we will see
Adding the account back didn't fix the issue either...the first time it happened last Saturday I did a factory reset...and that indeed did fix the problem...however only for 2 days...then it came back...I really want to get this fixed as opposed to flashing again...its not really critical ad all my data works and emails work but it is supper annoying

Do u have the gmail app or u have it on stock mail app? Maybe try switching it out? Shutdown or freeze the one thats giving u problems.
When u go to the gmail site is it legit? U counter check it through DNS to make sure it isn't a phishing scheme?
Im using the gmail app...I get all my mail fine...I have unchecked the account so it doesn't sync anything and it still pops up...I have deleted the account off the phone and it still pops up. It's almost like the account is doubled up or something on my phone. It's almost like one is complete and one is just partially installed and stuck in the setup process. Now when I go to my internet browser...I logged in and it says location unavailable...when I click restaurants...there is an option to update precise location...I click it and it turns grey but never actually updates the location

I was getting it too. It was Wallet.
I would try to log in with the wallet app and it would tell me my password is bad. I hit the menu button and chose "login via web" or something like that. Browser popped up, I entered my username and password and it went away.
