[Q] Firmware and Android Update - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently bought a new phone (e210k) that happens to be unlocked. I have looked everywhere online and I cannot seem to find the answer.
My problem is this:
I would like to update to jelly bean but I cannot do so via Kies or OTA (of course I'm pretty sure this is because it is unlocked).
However, I have tried to figure out this particular type of firmware and I cannot find any information on the firmware that the previous order had used to unlock this phone.
Would I be able to update the firmware and update to jelly bean without losing all my information and current apps. I know I can back up my information but there are certain apps that I would prefer to not have to reset.
Here is the information on about my current device:
Model Number: SHV-E210K
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband Version: E210KKKMC1
Kernal Version:
3.0.15-1183693

SMP PREEMPT Sun Mar 24 15:34:34 KST

Build Number: IMM76D.E210KKKAMC2
Sorry, I'm not very tech savy when it comes to phones.

Not true .

Firmware does not unlock a phone .

All Google apps remain in Play store your account .
Titanium Backup Pro backs up apps .
Backup have a look at Carbon on Play store .
Find the SHV-E210K thread for information on your phone as its not standard I9300 .

Galaxy S2 Update Question

I have a GS2 on T-Mobile and cannot seem to update. I deleted the original Kies that was on the phone as I thought I did not need it and installed Kies Air but cannot seem to do any updates now. Tried OTA updates and it just says Connection failed.
Anyone got any ideas.
Phone currently reads;
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9100BOGKG1
BUILD: GINGERBREAD.BOKG2
update manually...easy
Is there anyway of finding out if my firmware is the latest for tmobile?
A ask TMobile
B search for CheckFus on xda .
or post full codes for phone here .

[Q] Market issues on a Chinese device

This is my first post so hello everyone. I got a sgs2 in china (where I currently live) couple of months ago and it came with no market app. After downloading one (actually I downloaded several version several times) I always get the same problem: I launch the app, it asks me if I want to associate an account and wether I press "yes" or "no", the app shuts down. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem? I would like to download certain apps (like keyboard dictionaries and other stuff) and have never been able to (I'm a huge noob and this is my first smartphone).
My carrier is China Unicom
PDA: I9100ZCKG4
PHONE: I9100ZCKG4
CSC: I9100OZHKG4
BUILD INFO: WED JUL 13 11:32:08 KST 2011
ANDROID VERSION 2.3.4
KERNEL VERSION: 2.6.35.7-I9100ZCKG4-CL326202 [email protected] #2
BUILD NUMBER: GINGERBREAD.ZCKG4
Are not such capitalist exccesses like Android market blocked on China phones .
jje
lol
I know that market works on devices which have it preinstalled and when i contacted samsung via email they told me that the galaxy s2 supports access to the market but does not support the market apk (?_?). It might be a firmware problem, i don't know
I may be wrong but as i understand China firmware on your phone blocks market .
jje
So if that's the case I have to change rom or firmware and get one where the market is a stock app? Would that do the trick?

[Q] No Kies Support - How to get the right region/firmware?

Hi all,
I have bought a second hand Samsung Galaxy S 2 in China.
The Android version installed is 2.3.3; I tried to do an update via Kies but I got the infamous message that "firmware update is not supported" for my device. I understand from other posts in the forum that maybe the firmware installed is not matching with the original region of the device, in this case I should install the right firmware in order to get the support from Kies, am I right?
But my question is...how do I know the original firmware/region for my model?
The data of the device are the following:
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9100XXKE4
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE7-CL215725 [email protected] #2 (does this mean the phone has been rooted?)
Build Number: QUENS.GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
Plus, when I connect to Kies the current firmware version detected is:
I9100XWKE7/I9100XEUKD1/I9100XXKE4/I9100XWKE7 (DBT)
Sorry for the noob question, I tried to figure out from the sticky post and used search but I am still confused...(yes, I got intimidated by the welcoming video of the forum)
Thanks

NO its the signature
Build Number: QUENS.GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
That reads as a custom rom by Quens ???
Plus, when I connect to Kies the current firmware version detected is:
I9100XWKE7/I9100XEUKD1/I9100XXKE4/I9100XWKE7 (DBT)
If its a i9100 and no other version pick a stock rom from the stock roms posts .
With later firmware and to match region phone is used in .

This is the Galaxy S i9000 area.. not the SII.... pay attention and post your messages correctly ...
If the phone is untouched and he wants to let it this way, only use Kies to update it.... if your facing any sort of problems, try a reset (WIPE)

this is the GALAXY S2 area.. also, don't forget to pay attention before you "scold" someone
your phone seems fine.. it's on ICS, maybe you just need a better modem for your carrier/region.
cheers

It's very common for mods to move threads to the forum they SHOULD be in. This thread may very well have started out in the I9000 forum.

Just to help which country are you in, UK, Ireland or somewhere else, there are a lot of versions but they are sometime country specific so wont work properly if you install the wrong one.

You can use Odin software to manually upgrade your phone's firmware. Then you can root it using CF root kernel.
You need to use a modem designed in your location like XXKL1 etc.

Need help correcting CSC & Firmware

Background
Back in June/July when I was attending my friend's wedding in the states I bought a GT-i9100 off eBay while I was there (I live in the UK). Came with Gingerbread installed at 2.3.4. I knew there was a 2.3.5 available and possibly even ICS so I tried an OTA update. ~EDIT: I just remembered the other reason I wanted to update was that the screen had a yellow tinge and other some users were saying updating the phone fixed that for them.~ Nothing. Looked around the web, found out you need to do it via KIES and that there was indeed an ICS update for the GS2. Phone wouldn't connect to KIES so I did some more looking around in case there was a known problem but I also came to the realisation that my phone might be from a region where it wasn't released.
It turned out to have originally been bought in Hong Kong (the previous owner left some family photos and company documents on it too). I should have realised sooner when the phone had chinese as a secondary keyboard language. I identified the CSC as ZSKI3 and lo and behold Hong Kong wasn't getting ICS for the GS2.
Did some poking around and got confused by the conflicting or rather inconsistency between guides to change the CSC. Somehow followed followed one guide and put on XWLP7 (I believe this is open Europe. But I think I only flashed the ROM (PDA). I ended up with ICS but there have been minor niggles whilst using it which I think might be caused by something being mismatched between the firmware, kernal and rom.

Problem
I believe I'm suffering some problems with my GS2 because I flashed just the PDA to ICS and now there might be some conflicts going on between it and the firmware/kernal.
I would like to correct the CSC, ROM, firmware and kernal to open Europe or some other open CSC which you believe to be better.
I understand that I got myself into this mess and don't expect you to take the time to give detailed instructions.
Current versions
Code:
Model: GT-i9100

Serial number: This is unknown in the settings. Did I do this?

Baseband version: I9100XXLPS
Kernal version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913

Ok, i did very much the same thing as you. Ok probably no. I brought mine oversea not ebay. However i live in Australia. But the phone was stock from asia. I wanted try flash and play with different roms. Blah blah.
What you need to do is have a data cable like one you were trying to use with Kies. Now you need to see if you can get into odin mode ( from an off phone position, hold down vol down + home key while turning on the phone.) This feature as far as i know is for all android phones. And is one feature you cant break, flash or change. ( note, if ya cant get to odin mode, you have yourself a brick, screwed or stuffed or wat word deem appropriate? )
If all above is working. Goto http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3 somewhere in the mid of that page is some field you need to put in. Pick your phone model, and the country you are in or want the phone to set in. Down load the file. And follow the odin guide which i am not typing out. You can google it with full pictures And video eye candy.
Good luck.
