I really wish someone make ATT based roms, because im having really bad LTE speeds and signal with International Roms

We can just go ahead and flash any international roms? No workarounds to worry about or anything?

Most I've had to worry about is changing all the European units/measurements/dates to be more American.
Here's a checklist:
Set "English (United Kingdom)" to "English (United States)"
In weather, change Celsius to Fahrenheit
In date and time, disable military time
In date and time, set the date from DD/MM/YYYY to MM/DD/YYYY

Awesome, I haven't used his roms in a long time. Is that the best international one out presently for our phones? Just looking for your opinion.

Only used his arhd and a rom called renovate. Like you I used mike1986 roms years ago.

I've been a long time sprint customer
And I recently switched over to AT&T. The one thing I would definitely admit missing is the guys over at the Sprint development especially on the HTC front.
I'm new to AT&T and I sure hope they have some talented Dev on here because they did on the Sprint side.

ARHD 6.1 added AT&T specific options in Aroma, users have reported improved LTE speeds after the update. I was seeing ok LTE speeds but low signal bars on prior to the update, it definitely improved the bar display but not sure about the speeds because I don't have that much data to compare it to.
My LTE speeds are excellent though:

And then they blame me for it when the information is right in front of their face. Until you can do that. You really have no room to talk dude. Either way. Just keep contributing the highschool "behind the back" talk to start the drama here in development website. That really makes a ton of sense. :good: :highfive:

Switching to T-Mobile, thinking about picking up the Amaze 4G

I have a NS4G, and am switching from Sprint so I'll need a new phone. I'm looking into either the Amaze 4G, Sensation, or Galaxy S II. I want a phone that has a good developer community, as the two previous phones I had were fairly active in that regard.
I saw that the Amaze 4G Dev forum is looking like all the roms are Sense based. Is this an temporary thing or is the dev support just not there? (Or is the phone locked down enough to make it difficult?)
Anyway I would greatly appreciate some I put on this!

Hello, I am new to the forum but do have the HTC Amaze 4G. While HTC does provide the tools for unlocking the bootloader, they do not allow for S-OFF (Security OFF). And it is because of this (for the most part) that developing for the HTC Amaze is limited ATM.

Temp - hopefully.
Dev support - we only have one developer that actually has the phone. To top it off he's only 16 and still in high school.
We have the source but not the entire kernel source (thanks to HTC and their technicalities)
Still don't have s-off so we can't flash kernels via recovery thus makes flashing roms that much more difficult.
So if you want a good phone to use as a daily driver and don't care about tweaking and boosting... this is the phone for you!
If you immediately want fully working ICS, Sense 3.5, CM9, AOSP, etc then go with another device.
Do we see this happening in the future? If more developers were to pickup the device then maybe. But not anytime soon.
Bottom line if you want a device that has a HUGE selection of roms that you can do pretty much anything with... this isn't the phone for you. Not yet anyway.
Anyone know if there's any word on whether S-Off is coming? I thought I heard HTC announcing the days of S-On being forced are over.
I'd rather get the better phone. Hope that dev support comes.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Agreed with Binary.
From what you've posted this doesn't sound like the phone that will suit you. However, in the long-run it could suit you better maybe?
I doubt this forum will ever pick up. Most people who wanted a phone like this bought the sensation, and this phone is not a big enough of an upgrade from that. So most will just wait till the next gen.
Thanks for the responses. I think I am going to go with the Amaze after all, and deal with Sense. Apparently it'll get ICS at some point regardless, which will be nice. I am pretty good with Linux so I might work on my own development if I get some free time (going back to college to finish up my bachelors degree so I'm not so sure about that part).

I definitely agree. Everyone that I know that bought this phone after having the Sensation ended up having buyers remorse. The phones seem very similiar to eachother and we all expected them to be pretty much the same. However we later found out that they are nothing alike on the inside. Different partitions, different software, different securities, etc. This phone is actually kind of a PITA for developers despite how HTC claims to be "developer friendly" and all that other nonsense.
If you stick with the Amaze then try beast, its pretty damn close to AOSP, or at least as close as we can have for now

This is the first phone where I had to use the htc unlocking method and am SHOCKED that is not as open as they made it out to be. Keeping s on? What the hell was the point then? I can see where it would benefit developers, but as far as supporting xda type communities, its an epic fail while giving us false hope in all those press releases how they "heard" the enthusiast community and wanted to be more open.

The HTC Vivid is more comparable to the Skyrocket really. It's huge.
I've only had the HTC Inspire 4G but that phone was worlds harder to mod than the SGS2. HTC seems more adamant about people not rooting their devices, and for that reason I'd say go for the SGS2. Plus this phone basically shares the i9100 community since the Hellraiser by Entropy. I don't know much about the Vivid community so I cant comment there. The only appealing thing to me about HTC is its Sense UI. I personally like it better than TouchWiz.
Honestly if Dev support is what you're looking for then this is the phone for your, vivid can't even compare.

Anyway. Get the i777 OG SGSII. Nuff said.
Any Galaxy S variant will be the best option for development, mainly because the international versions get ported over relatively quickly and have huge dev support.
Go with the vivid, faster data, better ui, better hardware and will probably have ICS before the SG2, ohh and yes you can unlock the bootloader with developer tool.

Better UI is subjective, i find sense to be a little too over the top with animations and it slows the phone down with its bloat. We have better hardware no question thoug, the vivid may have better build quality, but its hardware is definitely not better (Exynos>>>>>>>> Snapdragon). The S II never had a locked bootloader to begin with either so we didn't have to wait months for that. Also, what the hell makes you think we'll get ICS after the vivid? we are waiting for two things that will be solved when source is released for the international Galaxy S II i9100, which has a huge developer following unlike the vivid.
Tough call. I love my gs2. I'm always looking at flashing too. Since the hellraiser package from the great entropy it opened the doors to almost all the roms at the I9100 section. Now we have a flashaholic tool also. Only downfall for the time being is us waiting for kernel source for ics. Which should hopefully be real soon. Most all the devs in the I9100 are now doing ics roms and unfortunately we can't run it properly. But when that day comes when we can watch out, the flood gates will be wide open to tons of roms.

Any LTE device will deliver poor battery life - just like UMTS (3G) was bad for battery in the first 1-2 years of its existence.
After a year or two, LTE will hopefully no longer have the power penalty it currently has, but right now, LTE = battery hogging fatty. Just look at how awful all of Verizon's phones have been in the weight/battery life arena since they moved to LTE. Supposedly the radios in AT&T's LTE phones are better, but all reports I've heard indicate otherwise.
The Vivid boot unlocker is a HTC site, once you use it your phone's warranty is null and void. Really nice HTC.
GS2 has CM7, MIUI, numerous hellraised roms, and Samsung touchwiz roms. Development in the Vivid is much more limited. Maybe that will change in the future but who can say.
Good point - technically the flash counter on GS2 voids your warranty, but it's REALLY easy to bypass that currently.
Voiding warranty due to custom binaries is lame - If a manufacturer is concerned with custom firmware causing problems, they simply need to make it easy to return-to-stock. None of this bull**** with putting minefields in the path of those who want custom firmware that make it easier to brick.
Samsung already has this capability, but they only enable it from the factory on the Galaxy Player. With a full return-to-stock image, the Galaxy Player 5.0 cannot be hardbricked by any means - if the bootloaders are corrupted, it falls back to a built-in bootloader mode within the CPU hardware. All Hummingbird and Exynos devices have this capability but Samsung usually disables it.

[Q] Developer Support for the DNA

Hey all,
So forgive me if this is a bit rough, I am only an intermediate user and my understanding of s-off and rom development is a bit limited.
The one thing holding me back from this phone is Sense; I have been pretty loyal to HTC since my original Incredible, but while I love the hardware, I can't stand the UI. (I cringe every time I see those god-awful icons and themes.) That and I love my AOKP, PA, and CM roms! (Paranoid Android on that screen has me drooling, haha)
Given what we know about the phone hardware, what is the likelihood of strong developer support, and how difficult does it seem to be to root? (ie. any big devs buying into it/pledging to develop for it, is the bootloader locked down like crazy, is the chipset common to other phones, etc.)
Thanks!
Well idk if this helps but heres my input(also new to htc so idk about s-off) the chipset is the same as the LG N4 but the RIL(radio interface layer) is going to be inevitably different. How much of a problem that will pose in ported devlopment I do not know. I would like some more educated input from a dev as well! I'm sure we'll garner support from atleast a few good devs I know there are a few out there that arestill vzw customers because they had the VZW gnex also the vzw s3 hada alot of support so were bound to pick up a few of those guys!!!!:victory:

I agree with the OP about Sense. Hopefully with such impressive specs, we won't suffer too badly until devs can get us a working root. Same goes for all the bloatware this device is going to come with:

Nice to see you here tyshemi I remember you from the s3 boards. Sorry to see people not on board to support, scott is great count me in, how much do we need?
There is no reason to bash any developer. Either use their stuff or don't. But criticizing someone like you did, toaster strudels is uncalled for and damned rude.
Scrossler is a good guy and a dev who pays attention to his users. He's done a kernel or two in the past.
Shame on you bud.
Yeah agree Scott is awesome guy and so are most other devs and no need to bash anyone At all !!

This is my first AT&T phone and I have no idea how was the development for HTC phones in the past but so far for this phone it has been rather disappointing.
Could guys chime in how was development for HTC phones in the past, cause at the moment I'm really missing the awesome developers we had at the Sprint side of things.

The HTC one x, HTC Hero, and HTC Evo 4g had lots of development. This phone has quite a bit support, but it's mainly from the international side. So far I prefer running their work on our phone. The way things look, international will be where all the attention is focused for our phone. Maybe if s-off happens it will attract more Att dev, but who knows.

You might want to check out the international One forum as well. Their roms are compatible with our ATT version. I'm currently running Renovate and it has been my daily driver. Also I'm sure the latest versions of android will be seen first on the international version.

Guys, it's just a debloated Sense ROM. I find it troubling to call him a "true dev." Honestly, I only consider AOSP devs to be legit, not Sense repackagers...

I find it troubling you seem to have this elitist view of what is or what is not considered development. Scott pours tons of effort in maintaining all of his roms across many devices. Some feel it is worth to have him dev on this phone. Do you really feel the need to dismiss Scott's effort and someones request to get this guy a free phone?
TLDR: Get off your high horse. Its embarrassing.

I'm didn't mean to be bashing on him, man. I'm was just trying to say that his departure isn't something for us to flip out about. Such as:
A bit upset we lost our only true dev for the AT&T One.

We still have quality devs on this phone.
I apologize that it came out that way.

Lack development on the HTC DNA

I am curious as to why there is a lack of develoment on a quadcore/1080p spec phone? Is it in large part to HTC being stingey with it's kernel source code?

What are you talking about, there's plenty of development on this device.
My biggest issue with the DNA is having to pick a rom to flash...
Might I suggest checking out the development and original development threads?
You can currently follow along with joelz while they trouble shoot a new port.
AOSP
CM10
MIUI
Sense 4
Sense 5
Several kernels
Looks like development to me.

Seriously, is there something you want that is not developed such as a specific rom, kernel, recovery, etc?
I think there is plenty of development for the DNA. What could you possibly want? Everything has already been listed. It's leagues ahead of the Droid Razr I used to have. Let's not forget that a new method for S-off is still pretty new. That's the major reason why development was lagging behind and since then it's been booming. You already have several different 4.2.2 AOSP roms to choose from. Then you have the Sense 4+ and 5 roms that are perfect. I personally don't see how development is so bad.

There are no two ROMs that are the same right now in the original android development section.
If you go try each one out you will see that they really are very different.

Is it because they are mostly built from the same base? I can see that being confusing to some, thinking there is no real development going on.. However, the same base != the same rom. There is real development going on for our device and all other devices on these forums.. I for one feel we have plenty to choose from and things are only going to get better and easier down the road... May have an official Sense 5 rom for the devs to play around with if Verizon gets things going.. I love it here!! Am I wrong? :good: :highfive::highfive:

That was sarcasm. In other words most of our roms have a completely different feel. On the GNex there were a lot of dups for sure.
Considering that this is a Verizon exclusive, locked bootloader, low popularity, CDMA phone, I'd say that delopement here is going pretty good. We have plenty of Roms, consisting of stock Sense 4 based, Sense 5 based, and CM/AOSP based. We even have an alpha build of Sense 5 4.2.2! We also have decent kernel development, 2 or 3 for AOSP and several for Sense. I've come to trust @.torrented and @pio_masaki for giving you the best overall user experience and working with the user to fix and repair not only their ROMs but miscellaneous bugs completely unrelated to them. These two have made it a truly great dev community. Because of these two, I am perfectly fine with the stage of development on our devices. If either of you are reading this, I love you guys!
If extensive development is what you want, get off Verizon and buy a Nexus 4 or a Google Edition HTC One/SGS4

I don't think it has "low popularity" lol... Considering up till a month or so ago it was top selling if not near so on Verizon.

Don't get me wrong, its an amazing phone that could easily compete with the SGS4, but it's Verizon exclusive so it never made it to that status. It was a mistake on Verizons and HTCs part to make this beast a carrier exclusive.

well, considering that verizon sells the iphone and the SGS4 (and the SGS3 if you want to talk about 2012), will them having close to 50% and 30% market share, respectively, i dont really see how the DNA could have been anywhere near a top seller. not to mention the note 2 and others. i would probably label this phone "unpopular". most people have never even heard of this phone. i'm glad they are making the "droid" branding exclusive to motorola. the DNA's exclusivity to Verizon killed the awesome potential this phone had. but still, i think we have awesome development. except, i dont understand why we have 5 million aosp roms.
