lte problems? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

okay about a month ago i saw 4g lte in my area. new haven CT and now i dont see anything, at first it connected by itself and now it wont show up at all, wierd thing is that on sensorly it shows that we have 4g in this area,
im rooted on the lates meanbean 3.09, updated my profile and prl a bunch of times
not sure if it has to do something with my area, or the phone itself, i keep seen people having similar problems, could it be the rom??

Its not the rom, you are experiencing the 4g lte roll out. Until Sprint announces that lte is live in your area you will experience lte outages often as they test and turn on new towers and troubleshoot existing ones. Sensorly is a pile of crap. If someone tagged lte during a testing period it will show up even if lte isn't available there. Take sensorly reports with a grain of salt. Very unreliable. If you have experienced the intermittent lte than give it a few months and you should see better results.

Also, updating your PRL won't have any effect on whether or not you can pick up LTE.

What's your decided with out 4g LTE coverages

I'm currently eligibility for upgrade
Oh ya finally after two year O EVO. I wish to get this wonderful EVO 4g LTE but no coverage LTE
So now I don't want to go down from 4g Wimax to 3g hmmmmm coz I live in San Francisco. We don't have sprint LTE this year. I think my decided to wait at list until my upgrade is expire.

Wimax sucked anyways, Im in STL and it was one of the first in the country, and it was GREAT the first couple months.... then it became worse than 3g.
Its expected that the San Francisco area will have LTE within the next 6 months as it, parts of New York, Florida, and a couple other states are listed for Round 2 of the LTE rollout, which is expected to be completed before the end of 2012. Sprint's LTE network is currently being installed in the Los Angeles area by Alcatel Lucent.
The 4g was never an issue with me. I've had 4g since almost day 1. The only time I use it is for downloading large files. I can probably count on all my fingers and toes how many times that has happened. My 3g speeds are good; usually around 1-1.2 mb/s, and that is usually plenty fast.
Or I use wifi when available. Until they figure out a way to keep it from killing your battery, I probably won't use it very often.
If their work continues the way it is and on schedule I should have LTE by the end of the year..But personally I dont mind if I have to wait..Im in my truck 10 hours a day with a verizon 3G/4G LTE Hot Spot for work for my laptop and wifi needs.
Pre-ordered and waiting for release.
Phones to awesome to not get. Lte or no lte. In due time we shall have lte

I'm leaving unlimited Verizon LTE for Sprint 3G.
LTE will come in about 6 months, I think I can manage.

We never had wimax in Reno, so the 4g on my Evo 4g was pretty useless to me. With Sprint who knows if we will see lte before my new Evo 4g lte is up for upgrade.
When I got my og evo on release day the nice folks at the Sprint store said we would get 4g by the end of the year. So I am pretty skeptical whenever I here we will get something from Sprint.
I use my connection at home for my phone. My job takes me all over the state, so 3g is what I get most of the time for gps navigation. If LTE will be as fast as they say, I might just use it for internet at home. I live in Kansas City with a 4g tower 1/4 mile away. I get full bars 4g currently.

never did use 4g much even though i had a tower around the corner. had to keep the phone plugged in or else batt would die. 4g tethering worked well when i had no internet, but dropped alot. Returned to 3g on my tethering occasions.
4g uses up too much battery to leave on and expect a signal around town, when the towers were rare.
hopefully i can leave LTE on and be accustomed to/get used to using instead of 3g.

I'm in the same boat, I used Wimax maybe once a month, just because if I actually had to download a large file, that's all I could do. The battery would be dead within an hour, hour and a half tops. The battery life with the lte chip being integrated is supposed to be phenomenal compared to what we we used to.
Luckily I live in one of the first wave cities, so I expect LTE to be available in some areas already as towers are already up in some areas once the phone comes out if not by the following month once they officially go live. I honestly just like most never really used 4g on my evos however the way it was implemented was flawed by default. radio on a different chip and not enough coverage so constant losing signal and swiching left battery life to be desirable. I expect with LTE it'll be different once the ball gets rolling. The radio is on the same dye as the soc so better battery by default. Sprint will have better LTE coverage than wimax so again that will help with battery life as you won't have to keep switching between the two. If you read the manual unlike verizon sprint has a toggle to disable LTE and only use evdo. I'm sure this will help people who don't live in LTE markets as well as those of us who want to get a little extra juice out of it. Based on the reviews of the AT&T One X though, battery life even with LTE on should still be pretty good.
I live in Miami and the LTE is very spotty, I don't have it at home; only used it to download big files anyways so I'm not worried about it. In the end it's a premium fee for a monster smartphone, very worth it. I would be really happy to get LTE, though, since my wifi at home is total crap :/ and it's not going to be as much of a battery hog as it was on the OG evo.

Most of you guys don't care about 4g.
But that's not a true, unless your smart phone using only in and out calls.
If using internet and WiFi tether you need a 4g to browser speed downloading, gaming etc... I'm not talking in your f*** home or work place only. You know how crappy is sprint 3g or tell me you are ambitious for new smart phone instead of what can make it a difference?
For me nothing this phone with out 4g lte .
Coz I use a lot internet and WiFi tether that's why I bought smart phone with gps capability, 8mp camera and so on
Please don't laying me Sprint 3g good enough.
I can say congrats for who has 4g lte by next month or early July.

There's the key there - for you. Many people will be ecstatic to have a phone with a bigger, more beautiful screen, more responsiveness, a way better camera, stock ICS, Sense 4.0 (maybe), better WiFi speeds (n capabilities), NFC capabilities, Google Wallet, the ability to take pictures while shooting movies, a nicer kickstand, a thinner profile (and lighter), better sound quality, a dedicated camera button, and better battery life (due to stock ICS, and efficient processor).
If none of those things are worth anything to you, I'd say you're in the minority here. I'll enjoy the heck out of this phone until LTE and HD voice arrive. Have fun with your phone.

I'm in the Austin, TX market and already Waco (part of the Austin market for Sprint purposes) has 4G LTE working...people posting 21Meg download speeds already. They are supposed to have the rest of the Austin market done by July (don't remember where I read it, but it makes sense).
Clear rolled out the WiMax 4G, but SPRINT is rolling this out, and they know they have to get it right because they are in stiff competition with Verizon and AT&T. Houston and Dallas are other Texas markets that will be in first wave, though I'm not sure if they are already up and running. I got my pre-order in today and I'm eager to get my hands on it.
And while many people do use the 4G, if you're in a building all day and not out on the roads, you probably didn't get much signal anyhow. With LTE, in-building signal is supposed to be much better, so when you're not able to get on WiFi, it will be nice. Can't wait!
Where are you finding this info? Let me know if you find stuff about the austin rollout. gonna be hard to give up full signal wimax at work for too long...

Constant Dropped Calls, Help!

I've had my Evo LTE since launch, and have had call issues since the beginning. I came from the OG Evo, and knew Sprint had bad coverage in some areas around me; but this has been much much worse. I would say 4 out 5 calls drop immediately upon connection. I will have half or more signal when I call and as soon as it connects it drops off and I look and there are 0 bars. Oh, I'm also not in a town which has the updated network/LTE. I had done the HTC Unlock immediately, so I was nervous about trying to take my phone back. But thanks to this amazing guide, I can get it back to stock. Has anyone else had issues like this fixed by getting a new phone?
My main question is who do I take it back to? I have the BB Black Tie insurance, so I was thinking that would be easiest/quickest exchange. But I wasn't sure how they would react since there is nothing visibly wrong with the phone. And I'm sure as soon as I get in Best Buy it will work flawlessly .
are you in an area that is currently undergoing Network vision updates? In my area (Chicago suburbs), sprint acknowledged that the NV upgrades were causing problems.
I constantly get "no data connection" when I have 3 bars (not roaming) :/
have try doing a service reset? ##72786#

I have not. I'm assuming it's okay to do this running S-Off and custom Rom (CM10)?
I have also noticed terrible 3G speeds, much much worse than my OG Evo.

I'm in north okc and have the exact same issue. I've been in numerous lengthy phone calls with sprint about this and I'm on my second phone to no avail. My girls phone is the same. This phone does not like the okc area whatsoever. I remember my 3d was the same. I am currently at the point of leaving sprint for this. I love this phone but its driving me crazy. And let's not get into peak hours data drop.... I'm so frustrated with sprint right now.

Well, I think I'm going to go back full stock tomorrow and run it by a Sprint repair store. Guys in IRC channel recommended I have them check my radios. I work with a guy who has a Samsung on Sprint and doesn't have great signal, but better than mine! I'm so torn right now, I know if i switched to Verizon I'd have great LTE signal all over town, but I wanted to support Sprint and see if they could fix their network. Now I'm regretting it but stuck in contract. But then again if I were to switch, there aren't really any phones I'm interested in on Verizon...
I love this phone but, I am.pissed and tired of repair stores, and sprint technical, and supervisors, and credits. They can see that most of my disconnects are device related and still won't switch me to another device or something. I really don't even want to switch. But, I totally believe its network being upgraded and this device is designed for something other than what's offered in my area.

Send it in to htc and have them fix it. They warranty it for a year.
I had one that dropped calls but my second one is perfect.
Well, I'm going to try to get to the Sprint store later this afternoon. Will update here with result. If it's just their **** network, think they might let me out of contract if I ***** enough? If they do, then where do I go? I freaking love this phone, but if it can't make phone calls I can't keep it...
--Update--
I went to a Sprint store on Saturday to see what they said. As soon as I mentioned dropped calls and crappy speeds he started apologizing. Evidently they have begun the network update in Oklahoma, which means that a lot of towers are down or not at normal capacity. He said this has been going on most of the year and that the network should be back at normal capacity by the end of the year. He also said he had heard LTE by June-July of 2013, but was just a rumor. He reset my profile and PRL and said it might help. I'm going to stick it out as of now and hope they can produce a solid LTE network. I do really love Sprint and their fight for unlimited data, just hope they keep it up.
Dropped Calls
I, too, have had terrible luck with calls dropping with this phone. I was on the OG EVO and did not have these issues at all. From looking at this site s4gru.com I do not believe that my area (Indy) should be under any network updating as of yet. However, it also looks like Oklahoma should not be, either - so maybe they started early
In the end...my old EVO did not have issues up to the day I upgraded, and the new EVO has had issues since day 1. I do not believe this is a network issue, but more of a hardware/radio/phone design issue. I hoped the newest updates (including radio) would help, but I am still dropping calls way too often.

[Q] My problem with LTE...

... after quickly ready through some of the threads here, there seems to be a problem with alot of EVOs not staying connected to LTE signal. In thier experiences thier phone will find the 4G signal then quickly drop back 3G or thier phone will not even connect to a 4G signal even though they are in a confirmed 4G area.
I never had this problem until recently. When 4G went unofficially live in Los Angeles my phone would switch seamless from 3g to 4g and back. It was just recently in the last week that my phone now will not connect to 4G unless I cycle through airplane mode. Once 'im on 4G my phones signal is rock solid and stays on 4G. When I'm out of a 4G area it drops back to 3G but will not swap back to 4G when I return to a 4G area.
It so weird that all of a sudden it started doing this. I notice that when this happens i'm at half (or less) charge. Maybe my phone is doing this to conserve battery.. i don't know. I can see if my phone did this from the get go but it's just weird that for two weeks it was fine and them all of a sudden the radios are not swapping correctly...
thoughts?
UPDATE : So i got off the phone with HTC and they said it is a tower/carrier problem. Is this possible?

Possible: Yes.
But no, its exclusive to the EVO LTE. You can inform them that the iPhone 5, SGS 3 & LG Viper (I wouldn't say all of them, but some of them, you're just trying to get a point across) phones in your area, stay connected, where as the EVO LTE (say your's & a few others) does, not.
^It doesn't have to be true, but the fact that it is a bug, is true & it needs to be addressed. If it were carrier based, Sprint's other LTE phones would be in the same boat.
Say your'e reporting it as a bug & could you submit a ticket or add to an exsisting one. (Heck, they might not even have trouble tickets.)
People mess up the bug process by going back and forth with the rep, just stick you your guns & stay polite.
I think it's an Evo LTE thing myself. I just got LTE here in LA, and I actually just noticed that I was back on 3G for whatever reason. Got back on by airplane mode-ing.
Although, I will say that it has gone to 4G automatically in another part of LA, so I'm not sure what's going on with that.
I would've liked for the LTE to be a toggle like 4G was on the OG Evo.
I wpuldnt know, Arizona never gets any love haha

[Q] I need some signal help.

I live and work in the 75160 area. According to the coverage map for sprint, this is a 4g lte area. At home, Which is a somewhat rural area, I barely get lte at home even if im outside and 3g is what it is. We all know that hell. Calls and text are just fine. But again, the coverage map says i should be rockin on all levels.
At work I sit by a glass store front in a busy part of town and I get nothing but texts. I cant call without it dropping, no 3g or 4g. Not even if i go roaming.
The sprint store says my phone is fine but weve all been lied to about that before, Tech support either blames it on a tower or an outage.
Ive been here since Jan 2nd. No way an outage takes almost 2 months to fix. Others here with sprint seem to be doing just fine with lte and calls.
I have a stock htc evo 4g lte btw.
How can I see if this is a problem with the phone or if sprints coverage map is complete bs and Im screwed?
Are you on the latest firmware/radio? While I have had LTE at my house for around 6 months now, and it never drops. Once I flashed the latest firmware/radio, my SpeedTest scores almost doubled!!
Just a thought...

Sprint's Coverage is Ridiculously Bad! Any help?

I have gone back and forth a couple times now. I ran the RUU to go to 4.3 Android (Htc official side loaded RUU) and I live in the Los Angeles area. My signal is absolutely ridiculous. Updated radios, current version of HBOOT and other drivers, I hoped that I would pick up 4g LTE in my area because the sprint coverage map shows that my location has it available for the EvoLTE. Going back to my device I am having 2G Edge and the slowest 3G of my life!
Has this been happening to you guys as well?
I made sure to select LTE/CDMA for my antenna options but no change.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Personally, I'd call Sprint and complain. That being said, it's a kind of well known fact that the EVO LTE's don't always have the best reception. ie two people in the same location with Sprint service, one on the EVO LTE, the other with a different device. The other person gets 4g LTE and the EVO user doesn't.

I can tell you from experience that Sprint doesn't seem to care if your service is crappy. Your best bet is to go with a carrier with better coverage. I was with Sprint for 10+ years.
