Hello, I bought a new Galaxy S III and the screen rotation is not working, even wth auto rotate turned on. I tried to remove battery, reset to factory defaults, rebooted sometimes, nothing fixed the problem.
Do you have any suggestion?
I'm thinking about returning the phone and don't know if I should get a S3 again, it was my first Samsung Android phone and I get this problem...
Thanks!
return it
I had this before on a Note 2 . I found out it was not working on an Australian rom I installed.
So try another rom and see if it works.
It's just a new phone I don't want to root or flash another rom, it should work out of the box...
read above then

In the dialer enter *#0*#.
A test menu will appear.
Select Sensor (It's in the middle).
Check if the Accelerometer data is correct and changes when you tilt/rotate the phone. Also tap image test to view if the rotation works.
If the data is wrong -> return it
If the data is ok you can either update/flash another stock rom/factory reset and check if the problem is fixed or still return it.

Interesting...
In the test, shows:
ACC Raw Data: - x: 0, y: (this value is always changing), z: 0 [only y changes]
Angle - x: 0, y: 90, z: 0 [if a landscape phone, the y value become -90]
but the image doesnt rotate.
reset to factory defaults didn't work
but thanks, it's nice to know that i can test my sensors
I sent it back and bought a iphone 4s
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free

This week I stalled an app which totally ****ed up my HD2. I don't remember the name of the app, but installing it resulted in the following:
-Whenever I press the home hardbutton my navipanel starts up and it is very hard to turn it off.
-Whenever I open an sms or email the screen automatically tilts to the landscape mode and doesn't tilt back.
-Whenever I open opera browser the screen automatically tilts to the landscape mode and doesn't tilt back.
-Start softbutton not working.
This is all quite annoying so I did a reset to factory settings. However this didn't solve the problem, so I am assuming that dreadfull app I installed did an override on the factory settings.
So the next thing I tried was installing the latest rom from the htc website, which should have been an easy thing. However it failed midway. Now the issue is that my computer doesn't not recognize my HD2 anymore when I connect it with the cable.
So the question is? What do I do now? I was hoping anyone could help me with this problem. Before when I was a student I had plenty of time to search the net/forums for a solution, but now I am working full time and I already spend most of my weekend trying to solve this issue. So please anyone help me out

i have to leave for work in 5 minutes so i won't be able to follow this up...but..
when you say factory reset, did everything else go back to what it was as you bought it?
1- can you get to bootloader (when booting up phone hold the "down volume"-- i think it is down, may be up. try it.)
2- if so you are good.
3- in bootloader flash hspl
4- flash new rom
I performed the factory reset multiple times and by 2 methods.
-setting->return to factory settings
-turning off the device-> press down the volume up/down buttons and press cancel call button
All settings were turned back to the original settings however the 2 problems (1: tilting screens and 2: unable to detect device on computer) did not disappear.
I tried to do what jsmccabe78 said, but my device just booted up like normal. No bootloader screen or anything.
I have anyone else has an idea.
Make a backup of your contact list.
And make a Hard reset!
In difficult situations, you can maybe use/do a "Task 29"
using the second option I described is a hard reset
try reflashing a stock ROM.

now what do you see when you boot your phone? have you tried deleting the settings for your phone on your computer for wmdc/activsync? 0have you tried uninstalling wmdc and reinstalling? try those first.
now, if your computer still does not recognize your phone your next option is to load another rom - whether it is a newer official rom or a customized one (your choice.) if you cannot connect your phone you will need to do this with bootloader.
if you can boot your phone, you can get into bootloader.
to get to bootloader:
turn phone off.
hold "volume down" button key.
turn phone on.
this will get you to bootloader. if this doesn't work, i am out of ideas. you need a new rom and you can flash from an storage card, but you need to have hspl first.
let me know.
now you can 1- flash hspl and 2- flash new rom
Sorry for the late response jsmccabe78. Thank you for your response. I got my phone into bootloader mode which enabled me to make a link to my computer. I ran the stock rom that I downloaded from the htc website and it installed succesfully.
Unfortunately this did not solve the problems I described in the OP.
-Whenever I press the home hardbutton my navipanel starts up and it is very hard to turn it off.
-Whenever I open an sms or email the screen automatically tilts to the landscape mode and doesn't tilt back.

Also my computer still doesn't not recognize my HD2 outside of bootloader mode. Reinstalling WMDC did not solve this issue.
I am still thinking these issues are software related and not hardware related. But reinstalling the stockrom should have fixed the issues if it was software related shoud it not?
So 2 questions remain;
1) How do I fix the issues in the OP
2) How do I get my computer to recognize my HD2 outside of bootloader
I hope anyone can help me solve this mystery.
Try it with no sd card in and see if you still have the problems? If you do :Take out your sd card and put it into your pc with card adaptor. Then delete the application data folder on your sd card. If that doesn't work make a back up of whatever stuff is on your sd card and then re-format it, then and copy back your apps and stuff. If you had a rough idea of what it was you installed try and leave that out when you copy your files back to sd. If you didnt have much on your sd card i would suggest to just wipe it totally and start again. Hopefully this should sort it, if not im out of ideas. Hope this helps if not soz but thought id try
I formatted my SD card, used the return-to-factory-settings function again and still the same issues. No connection to my computer and all the above issues... getting a bit desperate here...
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem here?
Hi,
I recently updated to the XWKI8 stock firmware and now the screen fails to time out I have tried setting the time out to 15s/30s/1 min but the screen never switches off.
Is this a know issue? Is there any work around? I am getting fantastic battery time gains by upgrading from 2.3.3 but all is lost the moment the screen gets turned on due to an incoming message (when the phone is in my pocket) and then never gets turned off)

1) Tried normal reboot since flash?
2) Updated via Kies? So maybe you try to reflash it but then you have to do it via Odin (Kies just see that it's the actually one)

Please try the following - if not already done:
1. Wipe cache partition in recovery mode (Volume UP + Home + Power).
2. If you have CWM then also clear Dalvik cache (for Java VM).
If that does not help either, you may have to make a hard reset (*2767*3855#).
As this will wipe internal SD card, be sure to have everything in a backup elsewhere.
EDIT:
Here is another guess to try before.
There are two different places where you can set the screen off time.
The one you found is (I am sure) in Menu => Settings => Display => Screen timeout.
The other one is in Menu => Locations and Security => Timeout.
Maybe there is an other value set on your phone.
Try to change this setting before wiping everything.
Good luck !
Resolved!
A combination of the above two suggestions resolved the problem. Tried setting and unsetting security options and rebooting. It seems to be working now.
Thanks guys!
Hi and expect anybody could help me. I recently updated my GT-I9100 by Kies to Android 4.0.3, but that was not working fine. I wipe de cache and reset to factory, but my problem was the same:
I can't lock the phone by any means, is not wotking PIN, Patron, Face, even the slide, I can config but doesn't works. And one thing more, If I push the power button by one sec to show the Options menu (where you sould activate silence mode, plane mode, restart, activate data or power off the phone), the phone is turn off inmediatelly.
I back by a ROM to Android 2.3.4 and works fine, the I installed another ROMs (even one to 4.0.4) and the previos problem is allways the same.
What can I do?, Some body could help me?.:good:
Thanks in advance.
Search for keystr along with whatever other terms you've already been using.
Hello, I'm Laurent from Belgium. Juste arrived in Taiwan couple of days ago.
I put CM13 a couple of months ago on my beloved S3. (I9300 from belgium)
Everything was fine, sometimes camera plant and just have to reboot.
But Monday when I arrived in Taiwan (pity) I wanted to take a picture and than big freeze and the phone totally blocked. It was on a boot loop (logo animation).
Arrived at the hotel than I try others CM (nightly and snapchot) with or without gapps and flashed correctly but still on a boot loop, once he arrived at the first step (choose language) but as soon as i touch the screen freeze, than boot loop again.
I arrived finally to get the stock rom and put everything back on 4.3 (from updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model ).
Can't use the front camera, rear camera and flash:
- The stock camera app: i see all the buton but don't do anything if I touch them (settings, color, switch rear/front ...) and the screen is black. the menu button on bottom left just propose me "edit shortcut"
- All other app: instagram and others don't work (it launch but do nothing when I push the picture button)
- Flashlight app freeze too, when I launch, black screen and the flash never light.
- When I used the code *#0*# (or something) it launch the soft but if I choose "mega cam" black screen and than "test factory is not responding" (now the front camera work with this test factory)
- when I used the code *#34971539# to launch "camerafirmware standard" I just have this title on the top but again nothing under, black (not the menu with upgrade camera firmware etc)
I try so the full wipe and reinstall without wifi etc (so don't go on my google account dl straight app etc)
I try the app manager: force stop and clear cache and clear data.
I try a small package fix camera found in a thread here
I try recovery and wipe cache, wipe data, factory reset ...
I bought a screw driver and open it and move cables etc (not totally remove the motherboard
I try to put an other kernel.
I try to update the camera firmware by recovery (but don't know if it can work or not)
I read and read and read so many thread all over google hours and hours ...
The thing is that so the flash doesn't work either: when I install the flashlight it tell me "need to access camera" so say yes of course, but so plant when I launch, so means that the app try to pass by the camera driver to open the flash no? problem is that I can't update the firmware as the samsung code plant also. I don't know if on stock I can install it by an other way or either remove/reinstall camera driver or stock camera app.
I was thinking to buy a new phone here anyway but no in a hurry and the first month here in taiwan I want to travel so take pictures as well I will try to find an old shop with broken phone and replace the camera.
ps: I'm not sure about the carrier/region of my phone ! is it possible to find it somewhere? with iemi or SN ? When I use kies he told me I'm already update, but I'm not sure if I have the right stock rom. (everything else work fine so)
GT I9300
FDD ID: A3LGTI9300A
SSN: -I9300GSMH
IMEI: 354793/05/342885/2
S/N: RF1CAEFX6HB
(internet connection in the hotel is slow, I need to go to a coffee shop to DL rom, so I can't try every other stock rom )
Thank you if you took time to read uh uh
yeah, just read some french thread.
Apparently this is a well known problem. Hardware camera...
Will try to get one for cheap.
But I don't get it that the flash and the camera stop to work in the same time. Are they linked ? if the camera is dead, the soft won't detect it so ll not run so the flash won't work as well ?
Hello everyone,
My S6 EDGE on Lollipop:
Does not work light sensor , always set in full brightness
If I upgrade to Marshmallow or Nougat:
Light sensor gets fixed
Fingerprint / Lockscreen stops working
Wifi does not remember passwords after reboot
If I turn off Wifi I can't turn it back on unless I perform a reboot.
Testing the sensors on service menu all of them work
Tried cyanogenmod / lineage os , same problems
Do I have a defective unit although everything looks like it is a software problem
Any ideas? besides factory reset, clear cache, safe mode, etc.... all tried to no avail....
Thanks!

I had the brightness issue once. It was always full and would flash from dim to full brightness constantly. And as i remember i flashed carhd custom rom which fixed the issue.
