The answer is no, but if you just factory reset, it will wipe your internal memory, also you may end up not having a rom installed. If you're trying to make it near stock, I would download stock rooted rom, wipe everything, then flash.

Cool, the phone is just rooted, not running a custom rom. I just wanted to keep root for tethering. But I need to wipe data so My wife can upload her accounts and settings

The Rom is on the /system/ partition so it shouldn't be affected when you do the factory reset.

^This. The only way you'll wipe the ROM is to do a system wipe in recovery.

That is right because I accidentally hit factory reset and it just wiped my internal sd. Like said though, if you want a fresh phone, factory reset

You WILL NOT lose root by preforming any wipes through recovery.

Good morning guys. I'm having trouble with my Samsung galaxy SGH-I777. Every time I open an app that uses he camera (ie camera, barcode scanner, flashlight, camera) he flash goes off then it just reboots he phone. I've already done a factory restore. I even went into recovery mode and wipe cache and did a restore from there. I've also just downloaded the new ICS update and it still didn't fix the problem. Please help
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
when you say factory restore does that mean you completely wiped the phone and flashed back to stock rom. If not, that's what I would do to determine if we're looking at a hardware or software issue.
No I didn't flash it back to stock. How would I even do that?

OK I flashed a new rom but it didn't work. Flashed back to ics still doesn't work

I would flash back to stock. If it still does it, bring it in to at&t service center and show them. They can give you a replacement. Or you can call them. Just make sure your on non rooted stock firmware.
a full wipe and reflash is required before posting any problems. because99 % of the time it's user error. Did you fully wipe system, cache, data, and run the kernel cleaning scriptbefore posting this issue?

Yes. I did a full wipe and restore. Installed a new rom and still nothing can I maybe install a new camera apk?

IF this is happening across roms, and assuming correct firmware, with a clean install (factory reset, no misc apps installed) then I'd say you have a hardware problem. If you've flashed incorrect firmware then a reset won't help you until you flash back to the correct firmware. Of course all of this moot if its physical damage caused by dropping the phone or maybe water damage. If you're completely stock and haven't subjected the phone to any physical abuse, then return the phone for a new one.

This.
Run fix permissions in recovery (last resort).
I have an AT&T i717 running ics stock rom. I installed cwm 5.0. something and was intending on installing the CM10 JellyBean rom from paranoid. It would not install from sd card. tried another rom from diff developer, same thing. I read that I needed an updated cwm so I tried to flash another, wouldnt work with the version of ODIN i had so i upgraded to v3.07, was able to flash another and then when I went to recovery it stayed in a black screen, reflashed the older version of cwm and now when I go to recovery it will show the main screen, but if I try to install or even reboot it takes the menu away and shows the symbol in the center. Am I just completely stupid? Have I missed something?

Do I select factory reset or system from the twrp menu?

Did it work?
Figured it out. Cleared both cache and delvik Cache and did a factory reset. worked like a charm. thanks for the help and I hope this helps others as well.
Just for future reference, also wiping system along with wiping cache/dalvik and factory reset is good practice. Sometimes not wiping system can cause some issues.

So, I need to wipe my phone, but am going to keep it rooted with the d3rp ROM still on it. I was wondering if I should factory reset or upgrade the ROM.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Well, if you want to keep the rom, then dont flash a new one.
What recovery do you have, some have a factory reset option
Just wipe data, cache and dalvik though

Alright so I'm currently running ViperDna. Well I tried to flash CM 10.1 and it just sits at the boot up animation and never actually loads up. So I tried flashing the stock Rom and same thing. Using TWRP. Any ideas as to what is going on?

Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Yea I am s-off. Used moonshine to do it. And I had flashed roms before and they worked. I have even flashed cm 10 on e but restored to my viper backup because I couldn't figure out how to get gapps on CM and I ended up needing to use my phone so had to go back
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Did you factory reset, wipe cache, system, and dalvik cache and then flash it? Just don't wipe data in twrp or it will wipe your SD card.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
Sorry about the delayed response. I had wiped the cache and dalvik but didn't factory reset. That solved my issue. Thanks!

I have a rooted Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 with Android 4.3.
Now, I would like to erase all the data, but don't loose the root access. Originally, I was going to go to Settings and press Factory Reset, as I used to do before I rooted the device. But then I read in androidcentral that that could "bootloop" my device.
In summary, how can I do to securely wipe all the data (the option called "Factory reset" in Settings) on my rooted S3?

Do u have a custom recovery or stock? It is safer to factory reset from recovery.

Nope. Root will not be removed in factory reset. Those apps are system apps so they will not be.
