I have the Developers edition, and just noticed today the front glass seems to be uneven, and not sure if that is normal or a defect on the unit I have.
The top part of the glass by the ear piece is raised up slightly causing a "lip". Noticed it when I went to scroll down from the top. The bottom of the glass seems slightly lowered. So it seems the glass is not level, just trying to see if this is intended as part of the design or not.

It's not normal but it has been identified as an issue by a bunch of people. I know it would drive me crazy if I could feel it when I pull down the notification bar. My One has that issue as well.

I sent an e-mail to HTC and this is what they had to say, sounds like they are aware of it...
"Thanks for contacting HTC Technical Support Center in regards to a gap between the screen and the casing of your new HTC ONE.
We understand your concern, but at this moment there is no official statement on this matter. As soon as we determine this, we shall issue a resolution for it. Please stay tuned for further news regarding this problem."

There was another thread about this. In that thread it was determined that probably all of the One's are built this way. A very slight rise above the spkr grille at the top of the phone and the opposite at the bottom. If you find one that isn't this way maybe you could call that one defective.
Why is something like this considered a build "issue"? This is getting really childish. I'm beginning to feel like Samsung trolls have managed to infect otherwise sane minds with derogatory interpretations of what reviewers are calling the best built android phone ever. HTC is not a crap company and they build outstanding phones. The more I see threads talking about what a load of problems and crappy build issues this phone has the more I wonder if there's some bad drugs in the water.
No problem discussing that you noticed this, but why is it more proof that the One is riddled with crappy construction issues, when CLEARLY it is not. Mine is perfect, it's one of the most interesting and meticulous built phones I've ever seen. The way the screen is higher at the top is just one of those factors that make it interesting. Notice that the screen being like that is not a result of crappy build. It's a gorgeous piece of engineering.
I expect to be flamed so don't hesitate, I apologize in advance, I'm in a crappy mood tonight.

The weird thing is no matter how much i hate the look of samsung phones, they never seem to have issues like these in my experience, whereas HTC phones, (I had the one x) seem to have something, in that case, the whole body creaked whenever i picked it up. Don't get me wrong, I like HTC phones, but i'm scared to open my htc one's box tomorrow.

The only thing that even slightly bothers me is the possibility of getting dust under the glass. HTC phones are notorious for this.
But in all honesty this is the best built phone I have ever owned. HTC really got this one right.

The title may seem really weird but it is the actual question. This is my transition into the andriod tablet arena, and I have been using the TP for a few days now. Seems whenever the device is laying flat on a cloth covered chair, a bed anything along those lines, the screen completely freaks and no point touched will correspond to the correct area of the screen. Almost like the screen is receiving multiple input signals. When this has happened, I have been trying to search for something online or in the app store. The event that really gave me a start is when I was trying to type in something when it was laying flat, then all of a sudden a track from Bruno Mars started playing full volume (the volume was on full so that wasn't a random change). Must have pulled the track from online as I don't have anything stored on the device at this point.
If I pick the tablet up in either orientation it starts working fine.
In addition, just a few minutes ago I tried to scroll through my email and experienced the same issue, but when trying to power down, the screen wouldn't register my finger trying to select the option to power down. This even occurred after the tablet was brought upright or in landscape mode. Ended up having to hold the power button until it rebooted.
Really hoping this isn't an issue with the hardware. Anyone seen this or have any insight on what may be happening?
Thanks

Probably resetting the GPS also. GPS works if there is more humidity in the air. ;-)
Awesome post, although I haven't seen a head swivel around on my screen, might happen at some point though...... lol
I pre-ordered this through tigerdirect, and they seem to have enough issue fulfilling orders that I will try and contact asus directly.
Actually I was trying for the stringy hair Asian ghost chick.. you know the one that crawled out of stuff.. but can't remember the damn movie title.. oh wait.. it's a-comin.. YES I REMEMBER HAHAH!
Yes yes.. if you ever see this on your screen.. RMA it..
hahahaha, I think you are referring to the Ring movie.
I just got off the phone with Asus and the person I talked with had never heard of this type of issue. The only suggestion was to send it in, but if their supply chain is still struggling to fill orders from across the US then I'm guessing an RMA will take a couple weeks if they would simply send a replacement tablet. I just got the thing so I want to play with it!
But since there is the base warranty on it, I could wait a bit and if it still does it after a month or so I could inquire again.
The only other thing I would be waiting for is the ICS upgrade. I have a gnex phone on vzw and can really see the improvements made going to ICS. Is mid to late Jan still the timeframe people have heard?
Nonono not the ring that one has orcs and hobbits.. oh and at least one skateboarding ninja elf..
PS: he shoulda had nunchucks.. would be way more awesomeness..
LOTR II I think, forgot about the skateboarding part. That was really throwing me off!

I doubt it... the metal back would act as a shield against static interference.
I just finished posting in a thread where I explained that the back of the TFP has a chassis ground to the charging circuit and thus the battery. It's possible that on your TFP, you have a bad ground from the back of the device to the PCT layer, which is incredibly sensitive to electrical current (since this is how it detects touch input).
Since the back is a ground for the device, small amounts of current are constantly being thrown off by various circuits into the back of TFP, and thus are making their way into the PCT layer where they're wreaking havoc on touch calculations. Once you grab ahold of the back of your TFP, those currents ground through you, normalizing the circuit and allowing the PCT to function normally.
That's my theory at least.
We went through that with Sensation. Touch screen needs grounding to works properly with metal back plate. I bet if you actually hold the tablet in one hand, it works just fine. It's not something Asus can fix tbh, this problem occures with most devices which have metal in the back cover.
Edit. Actually, thinking about it, yes, if something is grounded to back plate, fixing might be bad, but above might still apply.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
I was starting to think along those same lines but an hour ago I had the tablet laying on a bedspread and did not experience any issue.
Along the lines for your theory I wonder if whether the unit grounds through the back panel or further through me is fine, but the slight charge is just too much and royally throws everything out of whack.
Have most people opted to get some kind of case or protective film (I.e. Skinomi) that would most likely help this issue?

Click on my nick and look at touch screen issue thread I started. Reading OP should give you some idea. If my theory about ATP is correct fully charging and discharging it should fix it for a while.
Edit. Issue is very random normally.
Also, protective case or film are likely to make it worse.

Hmm, the case issue does make sense. I suppose any cover of the common materials would amplify the static if the it were moved around on the suspected fabric.

wouldn't the metal back act as a conductor for the electricity?

The PCT layer is under the glass on the other side of the TFP, and electricity follows the path of least resistance. The chassis is grounded to the charging circuit, so any static shock is probably going to end up dumped into the battery.
Unless, of course, as I theorize, the chassis has a bad ground to the PCT layer.
Otherwise, everyone's TFP would go nuts when they used it while on fabric.
So I've been living with the Amaze for a couple of weeks now and the design has certainly grown me. It's a bit of a foray from the more traditional, plastic clad Android handsets out there but it never really shouts "look at me!".
So my question to all of you fellow Amaze users is, "What do you think of the design?"
Personally, I quite like the beveled edge with the screen sitting above the bezel but that's just me. Let me know what you guys think.

You've posted in the right place so no worries and i love the design, i think its one of the best looking ive used to this day. but since HTC has made these designs (sensation, amaze) how the whole back comes off. these phones have much issues. like my sensation for example, the whole digitizer would press down onto my LCD so i sent it back and got this, the issues i have no is what everyone else is suffering from lol

I'm fairly impressed. I really like having all the buttons on one side with charger on the other. Wakeup with camera button is a great feature for a phone with a great camera, plus the video button is handy too.
One oversight is the camera flash being too close to the camera lense. I also dislike using the phone without a case because there is no traction to hold the phone on the edges.

The Amaze replaced my Nexus S. It took some adjustment but I really like it. I feel I need to be a bit more careful with it as I'd hate to drop it and I don't think it would survive very well due to it's heavier weight.

Decent design. Build quality could be better.

Otherwise nice phone.
I like the sturdy quality of the phone, but when the backplate creaks it really ticks me off, especially when the snap-on plastic back cover of the Samsung phones don't creak nearly as loud or as much. Overall, it's a good looking phone, I wish it wasn't as heavy and bulky looking though.

Probably from removing the back cover numerous times to battery pull and/or swap micro SD's, it doesn't creak when in normal usage but when pressure is applied to some points then it's a pretty noticeable sound for me
and it felt TINY!!!
it was really a mind bender. the phone that was at one time the biggest and fastest phone on the market felt like a tiny slug. it was pretty surreal... 3 weeks ago the Evo felt big... now it feels tiny.
I am loving the GNote and haven't had a second thought about the purchase (except that i am exchanging the blue for a white one)...
This reminds me that back in mid-2010...I nearly switched to Sprint because of the EVO. I remember that I was drooling over it after testing one out for a few minutes.
But, I decided that it wasn't worth the switch just for the phone...due to the rather spotty coverage and slow data speeds in LA.

HAHAHa i can top that. I had to use my GF's iPhone 4s for a day YUCKY! Damn it was insanely small. I am thinking about exchanging my white note for a black/blue one. My GF talked me into getting the one. I think it looks really nice and flashy and will deff grab more attention when you whip it out. Ive already gotten in like 4 convos with people about it this week lol.
But i like how the black is slick and clean. Not sure though yet Did you have to pay a restocking fee? I'm gonna have my GF call tomorrow and see if they would wave it being i paid $650 cash for mine.
What made you want a white over the black/blue?
Agreed.
Gotta admit the truth that most phones are starting to look like pieces of toys to me right now. After using the galaxy note for a moment, I started to have the thought of "Isn't this phone starting to look a bit small to me now?" When I looked on the other side, someone's Iphone4,then again I realized it was the galaxy note that have deluded me in such a way that the size of it is comparable to any other phones out there which is in fact not the true case.
Before using the galaxy note, Iphones and other smartphones look decent in size and nice to use with, but after getting my hands on the galaxy note, just felt like..."meh...aint that just another 'toy' phone right there? (takes out my galaxy note and start using it)".
Doubt I could use any other smartphones right now due to their sizes unless emergency issues arise...

You think that is small. I looked at my wires iPhone yesterday and couldn't believe how small it was.
My wife has the HTC Magic, with a 3.2" screen. It really feels tiny and slow now. The screen is dull and with such a low DPI small text looks blurry.

I borrowed my roommate's HTC Aria for a visual aid to a speech in my Public Speaking class, and it's soooo comically tiny compared to my Note. It got a few chuckles out of the class when I held them up next to each other, but I think it really drove home the point that Android offers a wide variety of sizes that will suit anybody and everybody. It's crazy to think that our screen is 2.1" bigger than that of the Aria though, and so much higher definition.
Also, since his screen was cracked, I offered to fix it for him. My fat hands had such a hard time taking it apart, but it took me about a half hour overall, and he now has perfect glass again. I think I would enjoy taking apart my Note so much more with the size of my hands, because there would be so much more room for my fingers. Haha.
Holding my Infuse now feels like a joke. I can't believe it was the biggest screen for android not that long ago. I could never go back to something smaller than the Note now. I am fully adjusted to it, and my thumb can reach the whole screen; it really is the perfect size for me.

I have a buddy who is an iPhone fan. Just likes not having to mess with stuff and having stuff work. He liked the Dell Streak I had, but wasn't a big fan of how much I messed with it. This weekend I let him play with the Note and he loved it, his kids both loved it, and now they all want one. Then I took his iPhone and laid it across the Note to show him that I had a little more than twice the screen real estate.
Even messing with my gf's Skyrocket, it feels like a toy now. I can't believe how BIG I used to think 4.5 was. They called it behemoth, gigantic, super-sized display and now...its Standard. "Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke"

Yeah but you knwo what, with the first one i had, I had that slight bend as well. Im not sure if it due to the strength of the beack of the phone, but the Metal bezel around the perimeter of the device. WHen i took my phone apart, the Metal bezel was super flexable. I think thats where the weakness comes from altogether. But thats my opinion. Other than that, I think this device is built very well. The back is incredibly ugly LOL, but has a nice feel to it. ALso the screen glass, is pretty durible itself.
The longer this phone is out the more it appears to be a model to skip. I don't think i have ever seen a phone bend before. Aluminum, while cheap, does not have the strength needed for this phone. Very poor design.

Why don't you buy an iPhone and drop that, see what happens. I don't think there is any other phone out there with the same build quality as this one.
Dropped my phone down a couple of solid wooden steps. My plastic back popped off, but there isn't a scratch on this thing.

Yea they should of used tungsten. It would of at least quadrupled the weight though.

Treat it like a phone/handheld computer, not a hammer and is fine.
once again get a effing case!!! everyone who has a case doesn't have any of these issues, it's a phone, you treat a $500+ phone like a $500+ phone! lolz this model is a great build....

Wow.! The build quality on this thing is AMAZING. I've dropped it so many times (clumsy me), and I just now dropped my phone one foot off a hard surface (which is quite a height, for me), and not a little scratch dared to show up on my phone.
How amazing has the phone's build quality been for you guys.?

Working in the wireless industry that is one of my favorite things people say to give me a good laugh and have me shake my head. So please tell me exactly how many drops are supposed to be required for a cracked screen?

I would assume at least one. If a screen cracks while a phone is being held, then I'll be mortified/impressed.
Overall, I'm pleased with the build quality of this phone. I thought the 3D moved forward in some aspects and backward in others, but I feel this phone simply moves forward. I chuckle when people say the back of the phone looks ugly. Are you spending a lot of time looking at the back of your phone?

Have you read the thread where owners of the phone said it is bending when it is their pocket? Any phone can break when you drop it, that isn't the issue here. The problem is it bends. Please show me any other phone that has this problem, better yet, show me how to stop it from happening. Is there a case out there that is designed to prevent a phone from bending?

Sorry if this has been discussed already, but I got my SGS3 a couple of days ago (so far I like the phone a lot, coming from an iPhone4) and I noticed today that when I tap the upper side of the screen I hear a little buzzing/clicking or popping sound. It feels like there is something loose inside that moves, and it only happens on the upper side of the screen. When I tap the bottom or mid section this sound is not apparent.
I can also feel/hear the sound when I shake the phone.
Is this normal for this phone or should I go back to the att re-seller and complain?
Thank you
That's definitely not normal. I'd take it in and have them replace it.
I've never heard of a Salaxy S3 with this, better get it replaced
this is really interesting - I actually went back to the store and played with a couple of the GS3 they had. Both were doing exactly what I experience on mine. I guess this is something normal for GS3's...
I guess I am waaay too picky andd will have to learn to live with this

Ohhh I hear what your talking about.. but you have to hit it pretty hard..... and it is not very loud.
Yeahhh, unfortunately for me that is how I tap my screen all the time and it drives me insane. It is more like a buzzing sound than anything else. It almost looks like something is loose inside the phone in the upper area of the screen.

Don't smash your fingers against your phone haha it is a phone not a punching bag.
My phone has the same issue as well. When you tap top of the screen, sounds like the screen is loose.

Ha ha never would have noticed it if you didn't say anything. Probably a sensor.

You know - now I notice this even when I leave my phone on the table.
It DRIVES ME insane,...
Come on SAMSUNG -- you just cant have these weird loose, buzzing noises from your "flagship device"!!!
The glossy cheap looking back I fixed with a nice cover, but this....I cant fix
I'm tapping on all sides of my upper screen and can't seem to reproduce this problem.

Hmm will deff. try this when I get mine but I don't really press on my phones screen. Just a simple tap, tap, tap-a-roo will do.
I'm seeing the same thing on my Verizon GSIII. I took off the battery door and can reproduce it by pressing on the plastic frame near the volume control. It is clearly the plastic case making the creaking sounds. So annoying.
I was considering exchanging the phone because of this, however now it sounds like it is more widespread. Should I just live with it? Does anyone Galaxy Nexus's do this?

I'd go in and get a replacement. Mine doesn't do this at all. Verizon has already screwed us all enough. The least they can do is replace your defective device.
