I noticed this when I had the screen tilted and it was booting up. Is it dead pixels? It's weird cuz it's only on the edge and can only be seen when the screen is tilted on a bright background.

I think that's the backlight. Might want to compare it to other One's to see if it's universal or a defect.

I don't know if I'd call it a defect or not. You can't tell it's there unless you tilt the screen and look for it. I just hope whatever it is it doesn't get worse.

It would be nice if it worked though. I'd like something better than a 320x240 in my x10 mini but I didn't expect it to be possible anyway.

It would be nice. Or i can find someone who does the job.
Why would you want a different screen than what is on the S2? I dont know of another mobile device that has a better looking screen than our, or one thats really even that is close to a sharp!!!
Idk. Just not Hd like the iphone. Still it is alright...

Put them side by side and you'll see that while the iPhone wins for resolution and clarity, the SGS2 far exceeds it with contrast and colors.
Tottaly agree... I don't see the point in replacing the screen anyway what do you need that high of a resolution for anyway?

I just really wanted one. Still its ok.

The SGS 2 has better black levels. That's about it.

Should have waited for the nexus or went with LG's 720p res phone. Also i work with a lot of iphone fanboys and not one yet has said they like their screen over mine
Screen Adjuster app lets you change red green blue plus contrast and brightness. I use it and it works well.
I use LCD Resolution app. Tw launcher isn't compatible but launcher pro and go launcher works great!

Samsung phones are highly proprietary and don't respond well to changes. Even using a non OEM battery can cause problems in some cases. What don't you like about the display? I think its pretty nice.

Is that a screen shot? It looks good to me. You would have to take a picture of the problem with a camera to show us how it looks to you.

NO, IT IS NOT NORMAL. There is an issue with the gnote and its black's. I would like to say 8 of 10 ppl are dealing with it. You can see the black blotch is very clear on the right side of your picture. No phone should do this. A fix should be coming with ICS, I hope
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
There is no guarentee that there will be a fix for ICS. Most likely, we will have to deal with it.

is it this bad with everybody?
Yes it is this bad. Mine is the same or worse on ics.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Yes its pretty bad. The lower the brightness the more visible it is on my note. Its kind of a buzkill when looking at my wifes HOXL and seeing perfect blending and no blotchy blacks.
Its gotta be a software issue, cuz I think I read somewhere the one x and note use the same panel tech right?
Sent from my SGH-I717R using xda premium
Sadly, the black crush problem, or "black clipping," is a very well known issue on both the i717 and n7000 Notes. It doesn't look like the official ICS update is going to fix the problem, but at least one n7000 developer, Supercurio, says he may be able to fix it once we have the official ICS source code.
Even though the problem affects nearly every Note, Samsung has never even acknowledged that the problem exists.
Keep your fingers crossed...
I've noticed on my screen when my screen shows black that I have like a dark little line on my scree about half a cm long and about a mm thick. Is this a dead pixel? When I do the colour dead pixel test it's fine but soon as it goes black it's quite visible.
And ?

do you have a scratch gaurd on the screen?
if yes, maybe its just an air bubble
Are you talking about the ones visible in dark environments with low brightness? Kinda like stains? If yes, that's normal

I own the HTC One and was watching the various video reviews on YouTube and some of the S4 vs One and all of them were saying the Ones screen could be seen under the sun and that its better under the daylight than the S4 ...not sure what these people were smoking but I can't see the Ones screen in direct sun light for ****.
Can't comment on the S4 so I'll reserve judgement on that device.
There is a screen protector on my One but I don't think it'd hamper that?

The screen is great outside in sunlight unless you use it in landscape with sunglasses on, then it will completely black out.

In my experience, the screen performs awesome under direct sunlight, and I live in Arizona, so I know a thing or two about direct sunlight.

No screen performs well in direct sunlight at 50% brightness. This screen is the best out there in direct sunlight in my opinion, and I've owned almost every new phone there is.

Well there's your problem! Your screen brightness needs to be at 100% to look the best in direct sunlight. All smartphone screens are like this. You'll need to switch to automatic brightness or manually crank up the brightness when outside. And don't use power saving mode - it dims the screen.
