[Q] Return to stock input - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently purchased an Equiso from Walmart and today I decided to connect it to a touchscreen monitor. Surprisingly not only did the audio over HDMI work but so did touch input!!!
My only problem is that when I touch the screen, a circle pops up and clicks can only be registered in that circle. I can drag the circle around to make clicks, but typing and normal android input functionality is wasted at that point. I've run throw settings looking for something unusual to turn on or off, but have found nothing.

I'm hoping that this maybe be a normal part of Android development and easily turned off in the build prop or removal/addition of some other file.

[Q] ICS 4.0.4 Cardock?

where?
i used to have a Smart Action that everytime my bluetooth connects, it'll fire up Cardock.
now i moved on to ICS, and there's no option to run Cardock in Smart Actions.
but in TiBackup, Cardock is there! yet i dont see it in App screen either.
where do one enable/run Cardock???
I have the same problem with 4.0.4
It launches with the actual Cardock just fine. There is apparently a trigger in the connection, I don't remember being able to launch the car dock app standalone back in GB tho.

Currently worked this out when I decided I will no longer take my phone out of the otterbox defender case everytime I used cardock.
First off the carodck app is turned on when the usb plug, a resistor sends a signal to the phone, so i read, there is no magnet like the DX cardock.
For a dock I grabbed the $20 verizon dock from a store that has an excellent length on the arm. Though about making little extension of some sort and rig the moto dock usb on the universal or buy an otterbox holster dock from a site.
Anyhow, I use the Rotate Licensed app to force or auto force ratate screen which rotates the home screen button to landscape like the real dock does.
Then I used AnyCut, go to new shortcut, activities, then select Vehicle Mode, there may be 10 vehicle mode(s) available, try number 8, or keep trying till you get the right one that has the map, nav., music, voice search, calling, and other apps, anycut will create a shortcut somewhere on the home screen. The force nav. with home button does not work though, but with the Rotate app and this shortcut I can leave my phone in otterbox and use the uni.cardock.
Another thing I noticed it the blue on black text in maps mode is hard to read when the search is populating as you type, even with glare protector, use anycut to make shortcut to activities, Motorola Input Debug.
Thank you for this tip, it worked great!
Hiddenapps works very well too.

and what trigger would that be?
doesn't anyone uses Smart Actions to launch CarDock?
Can't I really launch this when my BlueTooth connects?
I recently updated to the 4.0.4 and found a few differences in the car dock mode that I'd like to 'fix'... if anyone can point me in the right direction.
First, every time I put it in the car dock (Verizon approved, actually for the phone) it launches the car dock mode, but it immediately comes up in VZ Navigation, trying to map me to locations with an app that I would have to pay for. Don't want it, and especially don't want it to auto launch every time I put the phone in the docking station.
Second, used to that whenever a text was received and it was in dock mode, it would read the text to me (after prompting me)... this feature is turned on, but is not working in this version.
Lastly, if I move out of the car dock mode while it's in the dock, how can I get it back? Used to you'd hit the home button and, while in car dock station, it would send it back to that mode. The only way I've been able to get it back to car dock mode is to unhook the USB connection/charging connection and rehook it, basically resetting it to car dock mode. (then having to go through the VZ Navigation stuff again!)
Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

Someone would need to write a new car control app that would launch the "Vehicle mode" instead of "car mode" the name changed, from what I can tell, from GB to ICS and that is what causing the old apps to no longer work...

Pull down menu, touch the car dock icon, and it good back for me.

Perhaps I'm missing something because I am not finding a car dock icon, which is part of the problem. If I found one, I'd be glad to use it.
(Update: Restarted the phone, and this morning, saw the vehicle mode option on the pull down menu to return me to that mode. Thank you!!!!)
Additionally, used to when the phone was in the car dock, it would stay "on" no matter what. Now I'm noticing that the screen turns off if it's not on the home screen of the car dock app, like if I'm on the phone, the phone's screen will go blank. If I'm on the home screen in the car dock mode, I have not noticed it going black, but on any other screen it times out.

att hox+ nfc

hello everyone,
I'm trying to use nfc but with no luck. I've checked my settings, nfc is on, so is wifi. I'm running the stock rooted rom. I've tried to share to another phone picture, url and other but I don't see any beam option in share.
Also, I got 2 nfc card that came with a game but tried with 3 nfc reader and none pick it up.
I have no case but I do have an invisibleshield on my screen.
Thanks

I am unfamiliar with this NFC card game that you're referring to and how it works, so I cannot help you with that.
However, I know that if you want to share things between devices, both devices must be capable and have NFC turned on. You then have to put the two NFC elements together, and if something is capable of being shared, the device will shrink the screen image a little and the blue text, "Touch to beam" will appear on a dark, starry blue zoom background. When you tap the screen, the devices will initiate a bluetooth connection behind the scenes and transfer the information, during which time you can bring the devices apart. Just have them near enough to maintain the bluetooth connection. Things such as photos are larger and will take a few seconds to send, whereas URLs will send as a webpage almost instantly.
Each device needs to be on and unlocked (not on the lockscreen) for NFC to work.
Remember that you have to bring the NFC elements together (for example, if I'm sending something between my HOX+ and my Nexus 7, I have to place the top half of my phone against the "nexus" logo on my tablet, because that is where the NFC chips are located). When an NFC connection is found, a sound will also be played.
Ah! I though there was a feature I had to select in the share option. Does BT have to be active for it to work?
As for the card game, I found out it's not an nfc card but a touch card. I got 3 different one and when I start marker and swipe the card on the screen, it make a different pattern depending on the card. Seems like this game that is suppose to come out next year will require multitouch phone to play.
thanks for the infos

[Q] Serious Help with rooting and upgrading Samsung Tab

Whats up XDA,
I joined this forum just to get some serious help. (If this is posted in the wrong area could someone move it...I'm a new guy here.)
I bought my Samsung Galaxy Tab SCH-i800 so that I can mount it within my car dashboard so I can use it for music, navigation, and to be able to use the torque app with my car. My plan is to run tasker so that when the car is on (or when the tablet gets a charge) it automatically turns on and stays on. And then when the car is turned off (or when there is no charge) the screen turns off, and then after an hour of inactivity it automatically turns off. I noticed that to be able to automatically turn on/off the tablet requires to be rooted, and while I am rooting it I figured I'd upgrade it from 2.3 to 4.0 or higher.
Now, I've done my fair share of computing: I'm familiar with torrents, keygens, cracks, I've also accomplished several circuit board repairs for my car stereo, car window switches, and my macbook. But when it comes to software I'm more of an apple person, windows and android frustrate me.
So, back on track...this whole Root thing is driving me completely crazy!! I really don't get it. I've been working on it for like 4 days straight!!!!
I've been looking all over the internet, trying to figure out this stupid heimdall program, looking all over this forum, I've probably clicked over a hundred broken links. Gaaaahhh!!!! I did some research I thought a one click root would be super easy and resolve my frustration....
I tried superoneclick, didn't work.
z4Root: didn't work.
Gingerbreak: didn't work.
So now, after doing more looking around I've been following these two video's which seemed to finally take me somewhere!
1. youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=WPXCTzChhSc
2. youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=xQ3_wth1hSM
After following them (I've been using the download links from video 1, and following the steps in video 2) I'm at the 10:40 mark on video 2 and I go to boot up my tab and nothings changed, and more importantly the touch screen is way the hell off! up is left, down is right, right is up, and left is down! and also it won't power off, it seems like it powers down, it shows the verizon logo and makes the sound, but immediately after that your back at the home screen.
This is insane!!!!!!
This whole root and upgrade process is just killing me!!!!
Is there anyone out there who has rooted their Galaxy Tab SCH-I800 that can walk me through EXACTLY what they did?!
Does anyone know of any alternatives to my problem??? Can I shut down my device without having to root it? When its in the dashboard I can't hit the power button that's why I need this to work.

Control your Android phone due to broken screen

Hi all
I just dropped my Nexus on the floor and the screen is crashed, as a result the touch function is not working as well.
It all came in sudden and I didn't back up anything, not even reading the unread message from those communication apps.
I wonder whether there is a way to project the phone screen on the computer and I can control it via my PC, at least I can read all the message and do the back up and say goodbye to my phone.
Many thanks
If the display (LCD) is still functioning, and it's a Nexus 5 or newer, you can use a USB OTG cable and a mouse to navigate around.

Automotive Digital Dash

I am wating to use an Android tablet for the main dash in my car running the MSDroid app. There are a few key requirements I need to meet to be able to keep my car road legal using this and I am hoping someone will know how to make this stuff happen from a software point of view.
- The device must power up and down when the key is turned off and on
- When powering up the device must load straight in to the MSDroid app and automatically connect via Bluetooth to the ECU
Any advice would be very greatly appreciated, thank you

Even bad advice?
I don't like too much in my face, so I put a little OLED display where the coolant temperature was.
It's run off a little microcontroller that connects directly to my (ancient, 1995) OBD-1 ECM.
It also spits out that data over USB to my Android navigation tablet so I can see a full screen OBD.
The little display can show OBD codes if they pop up.
The lower left line of the display shows engine running time (when it's running).
I find that important to make sure that I get a coffee every hour.
The images are of the old blue in emulation mode, the new yellow (engine off) and the OBD app.

Thanks,
I'm running an aftermarket ecu on a street/strip car and need to run a tablet for what I want.
As per original post, there are two key things I need to do which will need modded Android software.
