[Q] Backups between ICS and GB - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

I have a little question. In case I am in ICS and I have a backup of a custom rom which is GB based. May I restore the backup or I have to flash GB firmware first with Flashtool?
The second question is the same but backwards (GB to ICS)
Is it possible? Thanks in advance

It is possible... Suppose u r in ICS, and if u want to restore GB backup then u need to install the kernel with which u backed up that GB and u need to wipe system, data, cache everything before restoring GB... Same holds good reverse way... One thing u remember... The kernel with which u back up, u shud use the same kernel to restore.... Or else der is a chance of md5 error or u may end up with FCs....

Just flash kernel that's compatible with your ROM or your backupROM, then restore

You are joking right?
Have you tried this CM9/
Neo
Neo V
Its the OFFICIAL STABLE cyanogenmod for the NEO. It is VERY STABLE and has everything working.
Apart from that, to revert back to stock, just flash a stock kernel (Or any modded kernel for stock) and restore the backup you made before flashing the cm9 rom.

now for going back to stock ics can i just flash it via cwm and i will be back in stock ics? dont i need to flash karnel or anything like that?

I just added the link for the neo v
Yes, you need stock kernel.(or modded kernel for stock roms)
The kernel for CM will not work with stock rom.
My suggestion is to try the stable cm9 for neo v from my link. If you are still unhappy then download a stock kernel, flash it it fastboot then restore your stock backup in recovery.
Do remember, if you flash stock kernel you will have to install a recovery. Or you can flash the alliance kernel from this thread

Rule number 1
Always backup, just in case you **** up!
Anyway, no problem, there are several options.
Find a stock .ftf in the dev section and flash that in flashtool after you have flashed the stock kernel.
Or, repair phone software using PCCompanion.
This will revert your phone to factory settings (Out of the box).
Or just follow the instructions in any "stock" based custom rom. I recommend Ice cream Pureness. Its a very good stock ICS based rom, fully functional and stable

[Q] LWW BL format /system and CWM?

Hi!
I'm new here and I have a question.
I have a Live With Walkman, locked bootloader, ICS .587 and rooted. I installed CWM for ICS through X-parts and made a backup.
Here my question. If I format system and then restore the backup, will I restore CWM too or have to install it again?
Thanks for answers and for all that I got here for my phone and for defy too.
Excuse me, my english is bad
AW: [Q] LWW BL format /system and CWM?

if you try any ics based rom, then yes. In 2011 xperias you can restore the kernel, thats why you can't restore ics backup when you are on gb rom/kernel and vice versa.
btw: if you try some ics based roms for locked bl, then (i think all of them) is pre-rooted, but you must install cwm again. (As i was on locked bl and i tried jj's hybrid rom, then i must install cwm again)

Yes you can directly restore the backup. But remember that if the backup was of a different android version then you have to flash a kernel too for the backup. If your backup was of ICS and your current rom is also based on stock ICS then you can directly restore the backup
If you backup was of different android version a full wipe too is recommended?
