Change User Agent (Exchange) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am new to Android. I bought a Galaxy S4 wit Android 4.2.2 preinstalled. In my Company we are allowed to sync with Active Sync/Exchange our Mails, Contacs and Calendar. But we are only allowed to use it with Windows Mobile and iOS!
The Sync with my Galaxy works perfect but when I check the sync protocoll in my Outlook Web Access Account they will see that I am syncing a Android device.
Is it possible to hide or change the User Agent for Exchange?
Thanks for your help.

I've been looking for this exact thing for a while now, with no luck. Even posted my own thread, but got no responses:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226021
I believe it involves decompiling APKs, but I'm not exactly sure where to look, and I've never done it before.

Exchange and PIM Questions

Can you create repeating Tasks with alarms? Can you assign categories to Contacts, Appointiments, and Tasks. Can all this information sync correctly and directly with an Exchange server?
Exchange Support
My question too, my boss just got one today, and I have to set it up to sync to our exchange server. Has anyone been able to do this successfully?
Well it depends...
If you need a security certificate there might be a slight problem. You'll need to contact the admin of the exchange server and have him approve the phone. I never got that far with my sysadm - I just got a blank "no"!
So I searched for an alternative and came up with two apps that'll do the job:
-Touchdown - didn't work with my mail, but got the contacts and the calendar.
-RoadSync - works beautifully, but has issues with contacts. It's still beta and free for another month so they might come up with a fix before the full version airs.
Get'em both in Market.
Mobile-Review has an in-depth review of the Hero, and a two-part look at Android (the Hero is the first Android device in Russia).
There's bound to be some answers to what the PIM apps can do and what not.
The text translates pretty good in google translate! Take a look:

I believe that a security certificate will not be a problem for me. I have an account on a hosted exchange service, thru Sherweb, for my personal use.

I'd like to ask if it is possible to synchronize directly with Outlook 2007 (cable or bluetooth), thanks and sorry for my english

[Q] E-Mail Sync with Windows Live not working

Hi guys
I have a problem with synchronizing my mails on my HD2.
I use a live.de-account for collecting all my mails from different providers - so far it works.
But then I wanted to sync those mails on my device. I was a bit suprised that the windows live program always showed up and took over the mail-setup from the inbuild-mailclient in windows mobile to itself.
The first synchronization worked but that was last week -.-.
The windows live program seems connected to the internet and my accountsettings are working (it can show my firstname) but when I want to sync it an error occured "e-mail login failed.please try it later".
I'm not so into this technique but I tried deleting and re-installing/configuring the mail setup. I downloaded the windows live software again (from market place).
I even wrote a support mail to windows but the answers was pretty much the same as in this thread.
As far as I understand the manual it's just synchronizing with outlook on my computer.
But I don't want a) Outlook and b)active-sync (= usb connection to my own computer).
I want a synchronization on the move with wlan or umts but nothing seems to work.
So actually I'm looking for a trick to configure my mail account without windows live software or some help to get it working with the windows live software.
my HD2:
unbranded original
latest official rom-version from htc ( Germany: 3.14.407.2)
Vodafone Germany
windows live software 10.7.0059.0600.1000

The thread there is correct. Which method are you really using? Do you set up hotmail as an exchange server as in the thread, or are you using the live client?
Sorry, but I'm not so into this.
Exchange Server?
In HTC Sense is a mail program and I use that. But when I want to configure a new account it automatically redirects my to windows live. I think windows live intercepts the setup and overtakes it because of the @live.de -ending. If i use other providers - everythings working fine without windows live.

There are two ways to connect to hotmail (aka live mail). The old method is to use the Live mobile, an application that allows you to access several live features. You get mails when you check mail, like POP3. The new method (I think it was released last year) is to use push mail. Configure it as it you have an exchange server, and set the parameters according to the link. New mails will immediately appear on your mobile. Both method should work. With push mail, you don't need to install the live mobile application and you don't need to explicitly check mail.
Ah.
alright,it's working...
sorry but I don't saw any connection between push mail and exchange server..
Ok,now I could deinstall windows live?
It's not necessary any more,right?

Correct. If you are setting up push mail (it uses Exchange Sync protocol so that's why you configure hotmail as exchange), then you no longer needs the Live client (unless you want other features, such as Messenger).
Hi Raizm and Alex,
OK ! The pushmail settings worked perfect for my with HD2 > Outlook > Hotmail settings. (with link settings) THANKS !! I tested this with a kind of 'Spam hotmail account' NOW i have a problem. I cannot change my spam hotmail adres to my real one. It is greyed-out in the settings ?!!! Also tried new account in windows live messenger but alas, still no change (possible) in my userID field....
Thanks very much in advance !!!
Peter
YESSSS FOUND IT, PFFFF
This is a tricky one. You have to go to the activeync !!! (Default Windows menu >> Extra)
There Menu > Options and then delete "Microsoft Exchange Items" with delete button.
THEN you can create a new Exchange account within outlook.
Thought I let you all know.
Thanks anyway

[Q] Anyone tested Hotmail / Exchange

Hi
I am getting the Galaxy SII in the next few days and I am coming form a windows 6.5 phone, but have also used iPhones for work purposes.
Has anyone tested the exchange setup on the new Galaxy?
I am a long standing hotmail user (please dont start a bashing thread hotmail vs gmail etc ) and I want to stay using hotmail.
Is the exchange client on the phone now capable of doing everything using a hotmail account?
If not whats the best solution?
Use a different mail client on the phone?
Link hotmail to gmail account?
I've done a little searching and it seems that different models of android phones seem to handle exchange email in different ways as some phones seem to work others dont.....
I also would like to know what advantages gmail gives to you over hotmail only in reference to Andriod?
Many thanks

Hotmail works just fine. Haven't configured an exchange account as yet.
Another confirmation on Hotmail functionality.
Exchange sync is available, but unfortunately I can't test it as my work have blocked mobile access unless you have a company BB -_-

Well microsoft has made an exchange server for hotmail and live which i use on mij galaxy s1, so i guess that would work ony any phone with exchange support.
Just enter it like this:
Id: [email protected] (or live)
Password: your email password
Domain: leave this empty
Server: m.hotmail.com(even for a live.nl adress)
Ssl box ticked
Then you can choose what you want to sync and how (push or time based)
I hope this helps

Exchange works.. (im on exchange 2010)
Only thing missing is the ability to push multiple folders
If you need full exchange-ish funcionality, then touchdown is probably the best app to use.

Have you tried TD yet? I'm assuming I'll need to deploy it due to shortcomings in the native Exchange client.

NeoVR can you confirm that when you start typing in an address, that it looks for names in the GAL (Global Address List) as well as your phone?

So if GAL works, can anyone please confirm the following exchange features:
- bi-directional contacts sync
- bi-directional calendar sync
- bi-directional sync of recurring appointments
- html mails
- confirming appointments
and what's about push for multiple folders?

Plus could anyone confirm if folders and sub folders in Exchange are all on one level or have a tiered structure as per Outlook ie:
Folder 1

------ Sub Folder 1
Thanks.
I'm interessted in the Qs of EinPaul and awharton too!
THX in Advance for responses!
Any sign of CISCO VPN or device/SD card encryption?
There was lots about this pre-release but perhaps it has been dropped like Face recognition lock and NFC.
Thanks in advance,

Same problem here. I've been with hotmail for almost 15 years and don't want to change. I want a client that syncs the way activesync did on my winmo phone (with sub folders too)....searched and searched with no luck. I can't believe that it doesn't come with the default client
Hotmail/Live accounts work. However, I tried to link my university email, which uses Outlook, and that didn't work.

[Q] Synchronize my phone with my own cloud

Hi forum users,
I find it weird, but I cannot find any existing info on a feature I'm looking for.
All I'm trying to do is synchronize my calendar and contacts between different devices and my pc. But I have a few requirements.
I want to access in read-write mode my data from my devices (i.e I want to be able to create a new contact from my phone or from my laptop, and my contact list must be updated everywhere)
I DON'T want to use google services (google agenda, etc.), and I DON'T want my data to be hosted on a server that I don't own. Clearly said, I want to host my data by myself
I'm running an ubuntu laptop
I've stumbled upon solutions like Own Cloud and Funambol. Have anyone tested them? Will they do the trick? Any other solution?
Also, I've found a few posts asking for the same questions, but all are quite old, and none of them found a good answer.
Thank you for your help.
I can't believe I'm the only one with this kind of requirements?
I have tested ownCloud. Sync with some datafiles works, but i didn't manage to sync contacts and calendars. Owncloud on Android is even in alpha state. Maybe an own Groupware server like zaraffa is an option?

Owncloud is perfect but u have to buy some apps to get it full integrated in android...for calender for example
EVO Collaborator for Outlook
Zimbra,Sogo,OwnCloud etc.
Then sync this with Outlook. (if you cant it to sync try EVO Collaborator for Outlook, add-in for Outlook)
Which program you use depends on your preferences. I don't have experience with any of the other ones mentioned so far.

[Q] Android Tasks (Activesync)

Hi There!
I have the Galaxy S4 with 4.2.2 Android.
I am trying to find the "default" task/todo application but I can't. I need something that is activesync or exchange aware so my tasks from Outlook/Exchange will sync to my device. Prefer free, but cheap is ok too.
Many thanks.

Would be better if I didn't need to setup the exchange account separately in this app.
