Edit: A bit more organized case thread has been started here! In order to keep things simplified I recommend posting directly to that thread!
I bought one off Mobile Fun - the clear one that protects the whole device - bottom and sides. It is more of a glove that a case. It adds some thickness to the flyer so that you have to force it into the white case provided with the device from htc.
I will be looking to buy one that can stay on while working on the flyer. Just like you have observed, the better cases are not yet available.

Looks like the official HTC case the P S600 has room for the stylus, even though there are no pictures to show this. I have ordered one from Expansys.

I just got my flyer yesterday from bestbuy and it did not come with the white case. Was the flyer supposed to come with that? I wonder if bestbuy could do anything for me?
Anyone know if the journal type one from expansys has a cut out for the camera?

No pen, no case... from Best Buy package. Not sure I would like the white sleeve, though.
White case a bit cheap looking, would have preferred black. But does have loop for stylus.
Looks like we in Europe pay more but get case and stylus.

Here in Europe you get the Flyer with the bag and stylus included. I didn't assume it to be different elsewhere. I have to admit, the bag is far from being beautiful, though it has a separate slot for the pen on the outside. I had seen some yet unavailable but solid seeming cases from Expansys, but I am eager to learn there are some really cool cases out there. Keep them coming!

That Navitech case looks nice, I just found this, it is a silicone skin that would be nice for keeping the back safe! Although it wouldn't do a whole lot for a drop I'd imagine, and with a tablet a nice folio/wallet style is what I would want!
Oh yeah and they have a couple of TPU cases on that site!

That's the one I got - the clear type. Its okay, except it cannot go into the htc official case - the white one, unless you force it in. Getting it out is an even harder job.
I actually picked up a case meant for the Galaxy Tab and it fits quite well.
The case was at a Verizon store - I happened to be there for another reason and asked about the Tab cases.
It is a little snug, but it should stretch out some.
I've got an account with VZW, so they gave me a discount - total cost was about $20, retail is $24.99
I'm too newly registered to post a URL, so go to Verizon's website and search for "46466" - Leather Sleeve for Samsung Galaxy Tab.
The m-edge case for the noon---the one with the internal pen holder--fits Flyer perfectly and doubles as stand in landscape. I will use this one for a while.

Thanks! This looks like a keeper. I like the low profile sleeve... just needs a pen loop.

Seidio currently has two, the Surface and the Active, and I'm certain Best Buy will have some sort of combo available when it releases next Friday as thats what they did when the original EVO came out.

I'm getting the commuter and a set of really nice screen protectors for this. I had the Defender for my DInc2; it was too bulky and the built in screen protector sucked a lot. It got dirty really easily and dust got under it too well. I'd rather have a slimmer case and a quality screen protector.
The accessory I'm most excited about is the Media Link though. It's a pretty penny, but that will be a really cool feature. Emulators on your TV with your phone as the controller. It's gonna be real nice.

Leather pouch probably, but fitted case I doubt. They are designed completely differently with similar internals.

i like the defenders shock absorbtion but i dont want a screen protector.. and i say this for one main reason.. ive never liked the way they look.. but also in the 2 years ive owned the evo and the year my wife has owned hers never once has the gorillas glass scratched.. and she abuses hers a lot more then mine.. so unless i can remove the screen protector on the defender ill prolly go commuter

I had a defender for my Evo OG and I was able to remove the protector and use my phantomskinz. It was just held in with some type of adhesive and it actually made a pretty good seal with my screen protector.
So if you want to go without a protector, I would imagine it shouldn't be a problem to remove.
Is there a band to go around it? Similar to how the iPhone antennae issue was "fixed". I don't want a case, but I would like a ~2mm lip to protect the glass when laying face down.
Edit: After some googling, apparently they are called bumpers. I can probably get a cheap-o from ebay after release. Does anyone have any experience with a bumper case?
I'm hoping for Trident to release a case... i love their Aegis on my E4GT...i wont consider another brand

I emailed the TPU-cases guy to see when they would have them ready as I usually buy from him AND will probably buy another one from him once they are ready BUT I did go ahead and order one of the TPU cases from the HTCPedia shop http://shop.htcpedia.com/htc-evo-4g-dura-gel-tpu-case.html
Says it should ship "on or before 5/11" so we'll see...

The only thing I didn't like about those was mine interfered with my screen protector. Meaning it peeled up the edges when I went to put it on.
I will prob be getting the Active Combo from Seidio.

I saw that one too but come on.... 12.99 for a tpu case. That's quite steep. I'm used to paying like 3-5 dollars. I think I'll wait lol.

TPU-cases.com are usually $8 or so in the early stages and then once more knockoffs come to market you can get cheaper. Honestly, I would pay evwn more as long as I have a case the day my phone arrives that I know I will like. Put a case on as soon as box is open and phone will look like new next year when it's time to upgrade, again.

I had the Rugged case(later renamed convert) for my OG EVO. It was a heavy duty case. Basically it starts with the surface case and then you add a rubber cover over the top of that and a plastic back clamps it all together. There are flip out covers over charge port and camera. The idea is you can adjust haw much protection you need. They also have a value pack that comes with two holsters. One for just the surface and one for the full convert case.
It did save my phone once when it popped out of the holster and landed in water. Just floated. I got real lucky.
I really like the case but it was a little on the thicker side. I went with active case this time. More protection that the surface but not as extreme as the convert.
MEM10 is 10 dollars off combos and MEM5 is 5 dollars off cases. This is on the seidio online website.

yes i was in a hurry, its on the seidio website, the thing is i just checked and it might be cheaper even on amazon..because of taxes..plus shipping...
I would have no og evo if it were not for these cases.... dropped slammed smacked. great case... beware the spring on the clip wears out with hard use
*edit* the screen protector for this one has the cut out for P sensor. also it doesnt feel much different than the glass... nice and smooth
If memory serves right, the Platinum cases sold at Best Buy are just rebadged and repackaged Seidio cases.
Just ordered mine.. after dropping the LTE on Monday I had the get this.... Comforting..... I had a similar one for my OG EVO with extended battery....

Yes they are but the selection is much smaller for the PT cases than the true Seidio ones. My Active is on its way here now. I haven't dropped mine yet but im not risking it.

I would like to have a case that protects my phone but also does not make it any more larger than it already is, i had the commuter otterbox on my last phone and it was bulky but my phone was atrix 4g so it was just the right size, the htc one x+ is big in my hands by itself. I do drop and ding my phone a bunch while i work or do outdoor activities, but not too extreme.

I had an online chat with a Seidio rep about the One X+ and the Surface case - they told me that neither the AT&T/LTE case or the International case will work. I am skeptical of that claim, so I am ordering one of each (w/o kickstand) to see which works better. I should have them next Tuesday.
Edit: Returned my phone today (last day of my 14 day return window) due to the bluetooth issue, so I will still have the cases on Tuesday, but won't be able to test them. If anyone is in the PDX area and wants to try (or buy?) them, let me know, otherwise they will be going back. FYI, the International version of the Seidio Surface case with holster in red or blue is less than $11 at Amazon, $50 at Seidio and $25+ for the AT&T version at Amazon, so very good deals.

I have the otterbox and find its not as bulky as some other cases and it provides really good protection as well.

So any additional info/results on these? Did alcatel decide not to distribute them? My cheap ebay tpu case came in and I have a hard plastic one enroute but it's not transparent.

Pretty much the same one is $3.78 with free shipping on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271867174414 That's the one I'm using and it works ok...they now also have hard plastic ones on ebay for $2.59 [ http://www.ebay.com/itm/31136984068...49&var=610459552705&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT ] but they are non transparent colors. I went with a matte black.

I'll have to answer this after I get back from vacation as that case and another are sitting at home..delivered while I was gone. I'm currently using the clear tpu case.
They're exactly like the Incipio Feather cases. Actually not bad for $3 shipped. A little bit of a sharp edge on the bottom of mine, but the cutouts are perfect. Fit is snug.

official transparent case now available - but I didn't like it
The official transparent case became available directly from Alcatel's own web store about a week or 10 days ago.
I ordered one, got it in, but I didn't like it.
It fits well. Seems well made. But two problems.
One - it's really shiny, slick, makes the phone really easy to slip out of my hand.
Two - the parts of the case that wrap around the sides are absolutely flush with the front, they don't stick out at all past the front, which is nice unless you put the phone face down: they don't provide for any clearance between the glass and the surface where you've set it down.
I'm going to send this case back.
