[Q] What are "Recents"? - HTC Droid DNA

Sorry for the noob question but I see these "recents" going around on some of these ROM's and dev's will post various "Recents" for people to download and use, but what exactly are they. Recent what? Apps, system files, themes, etc?
I see various ones for the DNA such as AOSP black recents, white recents, Sense 5 Recents, etc. What exactly are these, and if I flash/install them what will they do to my phone, and what will they replace and or edit.
Thanks guys, btw if it matters I have an S-off, unlocked, rooted, TWRP 2.4.1.0 recovery (should I update for 2.5.0.0, I have heard some people complaining about it, what should I do there?) I am also running the new NOS M7 v 2.0.3 ROM that was updated on April 25... if it makes a difference. I saw the recents on that thread for the ROM and wondered which ones I should install if any, and what they do.
THANKS!

The recent apps dialogue you access with the recent apps button. There's aosp, sense 4+ sense 5, and that's about it. And the white/black is the color if the notification toggles in newts rom

Thank you that definitely answers my question, but 1 more thing... what are the differences between them... and doesnt that ROM already have the sense 5 recents because it is sense 5, or am I wrong in that assumption. What is the difference between the current Recents with that ROM and the other Sense 5 recents in the seperate MOD file. Thanks again!

Aosp is transparent, scrollable, and very functional.
Sense 4+ looks nice, but only has like 2 apps on the screen at a time.
Sense 5 looks nice but has your 9 mist recent apps on screen, it is not scrollable.
It's all personal preference though.
On previous versions of the Rom it came with sense 5 recents, but starting with 2.0.0 , I think, he included sense 4+ because he personally likes that one better.

[REQ] Stock ICS look with Sense benefits

I know it will take time to develop but I'm looking forward to seeing a TRUE ICS themed rom. Basically aesthetically all stock ICS including settings menu but with the ability to use Sense widgets on the home screen and keeping other benefits such as quick settings etc.

You can install the status bar/settings.apk for AOSP ICS to run on Sense roms. If you want the AOSP lockscreen, just delete Htclockscreen.apk. I've installed the ICS MMS.apk as well.
Have you tried Scott's Senseless 3.6?
I am still able to put widgets on my home screen.

Installing the statusbar/settings.apk DOES NOT REMOVE SENSE.
Long press your home screen, and the HTC widget/personalization menu pops up, allowing you to place HTC WIDGETS still.
I've chosen to delete the Settings.apk out of the .zip and I only have the status bar looking like AOSP ICS. The only caveat I've found, is that when connected to 4g WiMax, the 3G icon goes away, but no 4g icon appears. I'm looking into that ATM.

AOSP-like ROM with Sense camera?

I am probably about to upgrade to an Evo LTE.
I would like to know if there is a ROM that is as close as possible to AOSP (cm10 preferred) but which has the stock camera.
Is it possible to have a rom with minimal sense framework but which includes sense camera ?
Still torn between Evo and galaxy s3....
Thanks!

I have only every seen a handful of hybrid roms and they are difficult to maintain from my experience with them, the closest you will get is if someone can import the libs and somehow get it working that way but things like image sense are proprietary and it takes a lot of work to reverse stuff like that. Try one of the bloat removing scripts, I don't remember the name but one removes rosie and replaces it with a ics/jb based launcher so you aren't just running a launcher on top of rosie
If you install the new Viper 2.0 ROM you can choose to install it "Senseless" which gives largely the look of CM10, but you'll still have the Sense Camera

Good to know, I have yet to try viper. Seems just like that wipe script I saw a few months back. Aroma has a lot of customization built in.

RacerOfAll has a sick AOSP theme because he hates Sense but wants to keep using Sense features like the camera.
His Viper4G 1.0 theme is awesome, but now Viper is on 2.0 and the theme hasn't been updated, yet, so for the now I've manually pulled some of his apk's from the theme, manually replaced other apk's with AOSP versions and am using an HTC ICS skin and a 3rd party ICS launcher.
Basically, there's lots of stuff you can do to Sense ROMS to make them appear near-identical to AOSP while keeping Sense under the hood.

That sounds excellent!
Is this something you're going to release eventually?
(BTW, I got the Evo)

Awesome, man! You're gonna love it! I'm not going to release anything publicly, but once you're rooted let me know and I can send you the apks I use to make my phone look stock ICS.
I recommend Viper4G ROM from the Original Android Development forum. It comes with an awesome tweaks app that will let you customize the icons in your status bar to AOSP style. If you flash a different ROM I'll help you get it as AOSP as possible but you'd be on your own for the status bar
I might start a thread in the theming forum with screen shots of my setup and directions on how to emulate it now that I think about it. I'll be out of town Sunday so I'll check back here on Monday

Well ... after trying Stock, CM10, and MIUI, I was having buyer's remorse ...
But then I installed CleanROM DE.
Holy crap! This thing rocks!

[Q] Fix for Sense Recents???

Hello, I just insttalled Jelly Beans b12 with Sabre kernel. I was hoping the Sense Recents would stabilize with this new build. I prefer the horizontal scroll of Sense recents over the vertical scroll of stock recents. I've heard there's a way to fix this by changing permission settings. But, I don't know where to start. Does anyone have Sense Recents working without crashing the UI?
This should be posted in the rom thread you will get more replies and less flames there

Looks like he doesn't have enough posts to post in development yet.
From the ROM thread from Beans himself:
"use stock recents if u have a problem with the sense ones.. i still dont know why people have a problem with sense recents i use it all the time and never have a ui force close.."
I was never able to get it to work either, so I just use stock.

Rez Mods for Stock rooted

I can find mods out there for certain ROMs...
but are there mods for the stock/rooted ROM?
I just got a replacement Rezound. Went through the process of unlocking, s-off, root, recovery....
played with a couple ROMs and little things that bugged me made me just go back to stock. It would be nice to have a multi-option power menu or a better notification drop-down where quick settings were more feature-rich.
So short question: Are there mods I can flash out there that are compatible with STOCK...
Android version 4.0.3
HTC Sense 3.6
Software number 3.14.605.13 710RD
Thanks!!!
I'm guessing you will have to learn more about how to make the mods yourself. I haven't been able to find anything either. I kinda like the feel of the latest stock ROM myself, I just need to learn how to add things like volume wake, etc.
I'm curious, which roms did you try?
Yeah, did you try Nils Business Sense 3.6? It is based on the latest Global leak, but it is quite stable. That is what Nils prides himself on. Honestly, it is a great ROM, so you might want to give that a try. If something didn't work to your liking, you can always post on the thread for that ROM. He is quite responsive.

I've tried CM10.0 (unofficial), Newt's One XXX, Infection 2.x
I keep gravitating back to sense...i want to get away but i just can't. Sense has great FB integration, contacts integration, excellent widgets. I guess I'm a widgets guy....
was just hoping for a mod or two..... wish i could reboot into recovery without having to use a 3rd party app. Would be nice to access a more featureful quick-menu via the notification pulldown menu.
I've been hearing a lot of positive feedback on Nil's business sense. Might give it a go.
Thanks!!!

HTC One Compatible with DNA

I have found that a lot of the HTC One theme development is flashable on our DNA's. I don't want people to go out flashing whatever they want and then bricking there devices. I just want to make aware the ease of making the themes from One work with DNA and I wanted to invite people to post there modified UI and framework stuff from the one here so we can all enjoy it.
