I apologize if this has already been mentioned elsewhere, I did skim through the main posts and perform a search for the general topic. This root method is basicly just djrbliss' over @ droidrzr.com except it was massively simplified by another user named marty45714. So essentially this is technically now a method to root xt910 using windows! And its SUPER simple, especially for non Linux users like myself. Here is a direct quote of his post:
"Moderator,
I spent the weekend working on something really lightweight to get this done easily, and I've finally got it working and ready.
Using Oracle VirtualBox with a Tiny Core Linux VM, I've managed to get this down to a 46 MB download.
Everything is automatic... helps the user get connected to SMB, then helps with getting connected with USB debugging before running the exploit.
I spent most of the entire weekend tweaking with Tiny Core Linux to get this ready. Please share. Where's the best place to start a new thread to get the word out about this?
Here are the steps:
1) Install Sun VirtualBox on your Windows PC. [EDIT: Link ---> https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads <--- Provided my MichelBFR, aint he swell? ]
2) Download the VirtualBox .ova file here:
dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/bb53ayj5c3nd5ie/Root_Bionic_JB.ova?token_hash=AAGSOYfPuDXTur_e9qlYl2JRERovPyfMwe-2xNzHXg4Lxg&dl=1 [EDIT: Link dead, see below]
3) Import the .ova file into VirtualBox. (Click "File" then "Import Appliance".)
4) Start the imported VM in VirtualBox (Click the big "Start" Button. It has a green arrow icon.)
5) Follow the instructions on the Linux console."
I also apologize for not coding links etc, I am not an advanced forum user. I just really wanted to share this with anyone who may not have come across this as of yet. If any of you need any further assistance I can try to help as I have successfully used this method and I know absolutely nothing about linux. Enjoy!
EDIT: New link uploaded for step #2 http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?84f3hkx11bpl3fc <---- Thanks MichelBFR!!! [LINK UPDATED]

Well, I'm trying to apply the root on my Razr Maxx, but idk I did something wrong. The process seems to be frozen after the usb connection verification.
Edit: I found the problem. The Virtual Box isn't recognizing the Razr at the USB port. Apparently, the system is conflicting with another request in the same device.
Edit2: OMG!!! Rooted the phone in 30 seconds!

But I forgot to mention another detail about the USB detection. You need to enable the Razr in the Virtual Box config before. Press CTRL + S and do as the screen:
Then the Virtual Box will detect your phone and continue the root process.

I'm taking some screens of my phone trying to show you how to connect with the Virtual Box.
It's simple. You will fill the login fields with the info provided by the Virtual Box.
I am doing it on my laptop . So can anyone tell me if my laptop and phone both are connected to the same wifi instead of LAN so would that work .

First of all, I'm not a dev, so this is only a suggestion to check whether it is feasible.
Since Xperia S LT26i on ICS(4.0.3 and 4.0.4) can be rooted with a one-click-root tool (boot-loader locked) now, I'd like to know whether there is a similar way to root our Tablet S also.
That root tool must use a system app named "Backup & Restore" for rooting. That app could be extracted on rooted LT26i. Could any dev kindly check there is any way to root Tablet S by using that app? Thanks a lot.
Best Regards
I am on the same page with you on this i and hope some can work on this and come out being successful. i mistakenly upgraded my tab. with the official 4.0.3 and lost my root... sad i know ....

To be simple:
1. Make sure to turn on "USB debugging" and "Stay awake" in Developer options, "Unknown sources" in Security.
2. Connect your phone to computer.
3. Run Xperia_ROOT.exe with admin authority. You can find the file in my attachment.
4. Press "2" and enter
5. When you see

, open the app on your phone named "Backup & Restore" and press "Restore".
6. After restore finished, press any key to continue and the phone will reboot.
7. After reboot finished, press any key to continue and your phone will be successfully rooted when you see below pic:
Remind: Please take your own risk to use this root tool and make your phone well backuped in advance. I can't ensure it is 100% successful and won't cause any problem to your phone. Thanks.

Hi,
I tried it but the process failed early at the point where you have to restore. The app 'Backup & Restore' is not available for the Tablet S. I found the apk, installed it on my tablet but when I start it says "This app can only be used on a Sony Ericsson Handy". All the following steps fail with a 'permission denied' status. I attach the app, maybe someone knows how it can be made to work on the Tablet S.
Regards
@nirvananils
You are welcome.
You can help to post my thread link into LT26i forum, thanks~

1 We need to start VNC server manually or it starts on its own.
2 i have done the setting provided in install guide but it shows the error
VNC connection failed!
failed to connect to localhost/127.0.0.1 (port 5900):

Don't exit before connecting with vnc. exit when you are done completely.

I'm curious to know if you guys are looking at doing this without VNC? I haven't found much, but here's a video of someone who seems to have figured it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxats9ejrG0
I'm hopeful that as the Ubuntu phone/tablet projects progress, we'll get some useful bits from them, since they're currently built on top of CM10.1.

Thanks for your reply, i checked the rom space, it shows around 50 MB available, but still the problem is the same.
When ever i try to remove any stock apps like "layer" "Notes" etc. etc. with link2sd or similar apps or try to replace any of files in system, eg. fonts etc. the system reboots immediately. But i saw the file being replaced finally. the only problem is it gets reboot each time i try to do something.

In order to remove stocks apps from any phone, first phone must be rooted and you should use " Root uninstaller pro" or Titanium Backup" apps, that will allow you to uninstall the stock app or freeze them, its better to freeze first as some stock apps should not be removed as it may cause other problems in that ROM, once all is well you can uninstall them later. Try it will root uninstaller to see if you have this problem.

Hi,
I've been reading all kind of posts about Rooting my HP Slate 7 tablet, it is the model 4600 version 1.05.10_user.
At first I tried using the Moborobo method, and I was able to root it for about a day or so, but it somehow broke something and the tablet could never be turned off (I needed to do the hard reset, where I press the power button + Volume Up + Volume Down or wait until the battery died). After that, I decided I do not want to use any Chinese drivers (Since I do not speak that language nor read it, it makes it even more difficult for me), so I abandoned the dream, now I've seen this new method brought to us by "kibaruk" which seems to work (I've been trying the steps on his thread: forum.xda-developers . com/showthread.php?t=2422353&page=7 and this other thread: forum.xda-developers . com/showthread.php?t=1886460 ) but there is problem with the steps when I'm trying to follow them, when I try to add the drivers in the device manager, here is what I encounter with:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And that is why I can't root my Tablet :crying:
I am writing this here because I can't open any thread or reply to the ones I read. I need 10 posts and I just received my activation e-mail (I'm not very good at forums, at least starting on any forum is very difficult for me) I really hope somebody can help me.

As you can see, I already run the "runme.bat" I also reviewed on CMD if there are any adb devices, but there are none since my computer is not recognizing my device for the android debug bridge (ADB). My problem is not that I can't find any tools to root it, my problem is that my computer does not recognize my device. I can't select the "adb_usb.ini" as the default driver just as the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2422353 specifies.

Please note that I do not intend to be rude in any way, I am just seeking for help, so please don't be rude to me, I know it is hard to read everything I write, but I intend to be as clear as possible so I can get the best help from this forum, if you need any more information please feel free to ask for it and I'll provide, I need the help and I'll make it easy for you to understand my situation.
One more thing, my tablet is already on USB Debugging mode and connected to my PC (Windows 7, 64 bits)
Thanks in advance again, for the help.
I've never changed from windows 7 to windows 98, as stated in the thread those are for reference only... if you read it you would even realize the screenshots were from a nexus device.
On the 4th screen, the file is called android_winusb.inf. You are clearly doing something wrong and I do not know what it is. See attached screenshot.
Thanks

Hi Kibaruk,
Thanks for clarifying that, I was a little confused with the step 3 (Optional), I thought that was the driver's file, because in the other steps I didn't see anything about the file that we needed to select. But now I have my tablet rooted. Thank you very very much for this wonderful guide I have hit "Thanks" to you. If you want, you can use the screenshots I used in this thread to upgrade your guide, if you want to and use my case as an example, again, if you want to. I'm suggesting this since I noticed that there are some other people asking for something like me on your thread
Thanks again

Ok mate, I just had some time and updated the main thread with the screenshots, thanks (I thanked you in the end of the post).
Also, Bin4ry released a new version of his tool, it might be more user friendly if you want to try it out.

The tablet has hardware buttons?
Snapdragon 660 have native support for HEVC, but should it work without problems with Mx Player with HW encoding? If anyone will buy this tablet, please check some video from http://jell.yfish.us/, especially for 10bit samples.

Well that doesn't really bother me .....I'm about to hit the buy button just need to find out if the LTE version supports 3G Bands as well....as there is no LTE where I live. Seems from all I read that it only supports LTE so if it's confirmed I'd better get WiFi only....

Hello, I'm new here, I'd like to know if someone knows if the drawing pen that was compatible with the previous Mi pads is compatible with the Mi Pad 4. Because the main motivation for me to get one is to be able to draw, not perfectly like on a Wacom, when I'm on the go. Thank you for your answer
Hi everyone!
I intend to install it in a car and the hardware buttons will not be accessible, just the screen.
With that in mind, I wanted to ask if there's a way to make this tablet boot up when it gets power through the charging cord? Additionally, would there be a way to make it shut down, say, 5 minutes after charging is disengaged?
Or maybe there's a way to put it to sleep, or hibernate it?
For instance, would this work? play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=auto.boot
Or this? developwear.com/blog/2014/07/03/autobootstart-android-when-charger-is-connected/
I'm sorry I had to remove the http headers, the forum wouldn't let me post links any other way.

Would what?
Why doesn't this tablet have dual apps? Is it because mine isn't on the global ROM or is it missing from there too?
I also can't seem to install apk files anymore which is annoying since I can't flash gapps yet. Even with installation unknown sources allowed, I still can't install from file manager/chrome/Firefox, only way I can get apps is the mistore which if fairly useless. Is the app on mistore that downloads gapps on mistore still there, as I can't find it?
Hoping that once I get unlock permission I should be able to sort these issues out myself, but if anyone has some solutions in the meantime I'd appreciate it
