The question is I bought a sg3 phone for $400 on a market here in my country. But when I activated it with the same carrier the phone is from. It appears that the phone have been reported stolen and also the phone is unlocked for any gsm carrier. My question is since I will not be able to use it on at&t which is it original carrier will I be able to use it on t mobile network since its diferrent and they use a different network?

It looks like it is. But the person sold it to me for $400 and he said it was new and he was the only owner. I just want to know if it will work unlocked on other network provider like t mobile.

It is allready unlocked. Will I still need to root it? (Also looks like the guy is being tracked down by police since I'm not the first person he fooled.) I'm very angry of this situation since I didnt spent $100 or $200 bucks, I spent $400 that is much money to throw it like in the thrash.

I can feel the pain , bought a stolen phone before xD Your device ID or IMEI is reported as stolen , so you cant register on that carrier ... Maybe try another carrier ? Atleast thats what worked for me

Have a look at this from T-Mobile, AT&T were already doing it, IMIE blocking blocks the phone across all network in that country, you could probably use it abroad normally as its not on a US network but using in the US unlikely

And if I change the phone IMEI. The problem will be solved right?
Yes but you get the far bigger problem of illegal imei changing which can get you intr real deep trouble.
Also, imei cannot be changed easily, only transplanted.
Note that most "stolen" devices are not stolen per se (they often come in original boxes) but are insurance claims.

You could do that, but be sure to advertise that the phone wont work in the states, it would be unfair to con a potential buyer.
It would be unfair to sell a stolen phone :/

IMEI block + "not paid" = .... (go figure)
There is only one reason phones gets lockedout by IMEI, if it's just the bill for the contract that isn't paid they block outgoing (and eventually incomming) calls and all.
Hi
The only way a phone will get blocked is if the owner reports it being stolen/lost and not for unpaid bill.
You could be a victim of crime if bought on second hand market as the owner is probably doing insurance scam.

I don't think anyone here is going to help you unlock your stolen phone, no matter what kind of excuses you come up with. Perhaps you should have the decency of returning it to its rightful owner, the one that actually did pay for this phone.

Strappin on my LOLLERSKATES
The only reason an IMEI will be blocked is because you stole the phone from someone else. Or you reported it stolen. Full stop, nothing else to say about this, at all, ever.
It is called Blacklisting.
Therefore, if you come here to this very resourceful community who operates within the bounds of legal framework that we live in, looking for a way to change the IMEI, which is considered a Federal Offense in the USA, and in the United Kingdom, under the Mobile Telephones (Re-programming) Act, changing the IMEI of a phone, or possessing equipment that can change it, is considered an offence, you will be dissapointed.
I would recommend you either contact your telecom company and explain you found your lost phone, or you return it to the rightful owner, or you use it as a wifi only device and feel guilty for robbing someone of their galaxy S2.
Ahaaaah u just dont get it a? Are u sure about what are u saying? U know that when u say something about someone it is good to be right because can go very bad for you with the law.
The phone is mine i got bills from this phone and i know what i am saying but i am not sure about YOU...and if u going to say something more about this ...not good.

I would also urge people to excercise extreme caution when buying mobile phones (or indeed anything) on the Gumtree website,a scammers / crooks haven, a common theme is for someone to advertise a high end phone like the GS2 for slightly below the going rate, usually the seller will call you from another number other than their own, they will say the phone is unlocked, brand new, etc, etc it is only when you ask them to present a receipt they will try and fob you off with excuses like "i need this receipt for my records" basically what they do is, person buys the phone, it is a real phone and everything works, a week or so later they report the phone stolen and put in a claim for another one, meanwhile your left with a phone which doesn't work as the IMEI has been blocked and you've no comeback, you try and contact the seller but find the number is turned off so basically your fu***d.

Can't happen, nowhere in the world phones are imei locked for not paying bills. That happens in some countries when owner of the phone reports it lost or stolen. By your username i assume you are romanian and just for the record phone providers in Romania don't use/need phones' imei , hence they can't lock it. So you might as well post what country and provider did that, but i guess if you do that everyone else will find out you lied, not that we wouldn't know that already

Not imo, they should send you the back you need. This has nothing to do with software.
FYI, a new back is around $15 on ebay
I usually trade my phone on Craigslist, but lately I've been wary of phones purchased on value plans as they can be blacklisted if the original owner defaults on payments. So with this new uncarrier thing is it the same principle? As in if I trade for an HTC One can it be blacklisted if payments are not made? Thanks for any replies!

Ummm...AT&T & T-Mobile have been sharing blacklists since the end of last year, so any GSM carrier that is tied to them is also blocking those IMEIs.
www.checkesnfree.com has a GSM Blacklist database. input the IMEI and it will tell you if its been blacklisted

Most insurance plans require a police report to be filed for the lost phone, so you'd have to falsify that as well. Doesn't like a good idea in general.

If someone tells you they can get a phone off of the stolen phone negative list, they either work for Asurion (and they're acting illegally), work for a VERY specific team at Verizon (and puttng their job in jeopardy to make $70), or flashing a different IMEI to the phone (which is illegal and causes other problems down the line). All phones on Verizon are indexed, meaning that the company has a record of each phone's serial number, and that's what's allowed on the network. If a phone is in the "negative" index list, it can't be activated unless it's moved on to the regular list, and the only people that can do that are Verizon employees on the indexing/inventory team, or Asurion reps who have to go through a pretty long process to have it re-indexed.
On a GSM network, none of this is a problem, because the only thing the network cares about is the SIM/ICC number.

Hey Eduardo!
Well the best way (easiest) to unlock is to just call T-mobile and say that you're going to some foreign place like Brazil or Ecuador or something. If one rep refuses to unlock you just call again and repeat until someone gives you an unlock code lol. Just tell them you're going out of state and need an unlock code, they will give it to you 9/10 times anyway, so you shouldn't have much trouble.
The OTHER way is to do this. Right now it's in a gray area because of the stupid law banning unlocking (except by carrier), but the Amaze was released before the law came into play so I guess it avoids the law. Good luck!
