[Q] Thinking about changing the Folio 100 - Folio 100 General

I keep this forum a while and always find something I can use: I like the collaboration.
Now, tired of playing with my Toshiba and almost always in trouble, I'm thinking about buying a new tablet, but I'm not 9, 9.7 or 10.1
Any thoughts on this?

Me too,
One thing i know for sure is the new one has to have:
- Gorilla Glass :victory:
In my opinion
- a quad core processor at most like the SGS3
Other thoughts?.......:highfive:

Look at the main differences, they are only software oriented... The only upgrade is maybe the camera, the quad core cpu (with same gpu) and the led notification light... The super amoled hd is a pentile screen...

thats what i was thinking.
cause the camera is the same old 8 mp cmos sensor but flatpanel.
just the screen size, resolution and the processor has been changed.
so i think would stick to my S2 for one year more and wait for S4.
my DAD will be happy that this year his wallet will not be empty like last 2 years.
Other than the screen and battery, there's nothing I want over s2 TBH. When's the last time you found s2's CPU struggle with anything? Now what you going to do with a quad core CPU that put some laptops to shame?
I know most S2 users will say it's not worth it, but after reading both the engadget and androidcentral coverage (and also technobuffalo and pocketnow) I have come to the conclusion:
I want it.
First of all, this is not iPhone 4->4S. The only thing there was a dual core in stead of single core processor and the camera. No DESIGN changes, it looked the same. No screen changes, it looked the same.
My initial feeling was mixed. First I wasn't amazed by the design. After seeing more and more articles and more and more pictures/videos, I changed my mind. That "metallic blue" colour is very nice, I like the home button design, the curved edges. The only thing I'm not amazed about is the back, but it's ok.
Hardware wise I'm happy. People with the S2, I understand you doubting if it's worth the upgrade from an S2. But some people on the net saying the hardware is total "****" should be locked up. People expect WAY to much. 2 years ago I would have only dreamed about such specs. While my S2 is no slow guy, I am starting so see room for improvements. It's slow some times, not a lot but ok. Also the change from WVGA to 720p res is a great thing, even if it's "pentile". Another small but maybe unknown detail is the S3 uses a "wolfson" soundchip or how it's called, so supercurio already tweeted we can expect amazing sound quality.
Atm I"m enjoying my S2 and somewhere in June/July I might get the S3. Like I said a while ago, standard pattern of most humans:
Initial disappointment, after a while start changing their minds, buy the phone anyway, start loving it hardcore mode. Every year. People usually focus only on specs on paper, but start seeing the small details later. And off course actually holding the phone in your hand, that's when the magic chicks in ^^
Of course it's worth buying the SIII. They upgraded the best feature in the world: pink spot right in the middle of the photos.

Do we really need to flood the SGS2 pages with floods of opinions about another device - which won't be released for four weeks - when one can do so on said device's dedicated forum?
No we don't IMO...

Exactly .... and the special thing thing is the chip is better than the one in sgs.
Generally people will never have the mind to update their previous flagship, adding the poor design for sgs3 the upgrade will be slower from sgs2 users.
If you like HD screen, capture more photos, better battery life then you can switch to sgs3 without a doubt.
People haven't read the initial review from anandtech and gsmarena, this sgs3 blows the competitors with wide margin . The only drawback I would say is the back panel design.

That must be why I've found 4 threads here already then.
Don't see that it's "common sense" at all - that's what the dedicated forum for the SGS III is for....
Anyway, see the last post here - when a mod says discussion goes on relevant thread, end of story.
Bet this thread will be locked anyway.
Having gotten the original Galaxy S and SII, I was greatly anticipating the SIII even though I was very impressed with the HTC One X.
After seeing the device, I have to say I'll be getting the One X instead. I waited and waited but was ultimately disappointed.
This new device is pretty ugly. How can the company that made the elegant Galaxy Nexus also make the chintzy, cheap-looking Galaxy SIII? Seriously -- the Galaxy SII actually looks better with its more pronounced edges -- the curved appearance of the SIII reminds me a lot of the Galaxy S -- in other words, the design went backwards. At least the iPhone 4s retained what was a good-looking design.
That's not the only thing that went backwards: the display technology Samsung is using on the SII is superior to the Pentile display of the SIII even if the resolution is lesser. What's more, in real world use, the SIII will probably not be that much better than the One X. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but the front camera also has a slightly smaller sensor, doesn't it (1.9Mpix vs. 2.0Mpix)?
Moreover, whereas other manufacturers are exploring the use of new processes and materials for its builds (Apple is allegedly planning to use new materials and processes on its iPhone and HTC already used a different set on its new One series), Samsung has stuck to ugly, glossy plastic.
What's bizarre is that if you look at Samsung's other offerings, like its televisions, it isn't afraid of producing elegant, spartan designs. There's nothing elegant or spartan about the Galaxy SIII, it's just cheesy.
Also, while I thought Touchwiz 4 was passable enough, the new TouchWiz looks like a disaster waiting to happen. You can already tell there's going to be a ton of crapware on the i9300. Where's the evolution? Why persist with the iPhone knock-off design sensibility when Android has already moved forward? Why insist on a very ugly hardware home button when Sammy itself shipped the first ICS sandwich with virtual buttons?
Rather than going for an ICS-influenced look which was meant to unify the appearance of the OS across devices and manufacturers, Samsung doubled-down on the most-critiqued software feature of its devices. Also, as one can see from the various hands-on videos, they even retained the Gingerbread-green battery icons!
At least HTC had the good sense to tweak SenseUI heavily to give its users a good user experience while incorporating just enough ICS to please the Android purists. Just looking at the TW5, you know it'll be another invasive, ugly experience from Samsung.
The only redeeming quality the SIII seems to have is its SoC, which is why some are saying its an evolutionary rather than revolutionary update.
So, sorry, Sammy. You aren't getting my money this year.
Better stay away from xda, internet for some time

i'm pretty disappointed with the Galaxy S3 to be honest.
1. looks like a piece of soap.
2. screen is pentile
3. hardware buttons (really samsung?)
4. fat bezel
5. a9 battery sucker instead of a a15 for the sake of marketing
6. crapwiz
it's a galaxy SIIs. I'm gonna wait for the next Nexus. just my $0,02
In my opinion, SG3 not really a idea phone to buy if you already have SG2. Because:
1. Still not need quad core yet.
2. 4.8inch too big for "mobile" phone. Almost size of Samsung Note.
3. Same camera MP.
4. Ugly and non pro design.
The only things that interest me is the NFC technology.

when you get used to the large screen, there is no going back, from my experience.
my friend bought the s3 and im like meh its cool and all but that difference
on screen real estate has me hooked. i didnt get the buzz until i had 2 days with
the note.
i thought viewing excel documents on the s2 was a huuuuuge difference coming from the torch.
i thought viewing excel documents coming from the bold to the torch was a huuuge leap.

I just recently switched from the Iphone4 to the Galaxy Note....I was really planning on getting the S3 when it came out (I bought Note outright no contract from Craigslist) and the more I play with the Note...the less I want to switch. I mean they have the same specs except for the Note a bigger screen. Plus with the custom roms you can have almost everything a S3 has as far as features...why spend the extra cash for less screen and a few other features?
Oh and there is NO WAY IN HELL I will ever go back to Apple!

They don't have the same specs.
i717 Note: Qualcomm S3 1.5ghz processor Adreno 220 GPU, 1gb RAM
i747 GSIII: Qualcomm S4 1.5ghz processor Adrena 225 GPU, 2gb RAM, Better cameras (Burst and HDR shot, 720p front facing), Gorilla Glass 2.
Although the features on the SIII are nice, they aren't enough for me to upgrade just yet.
Perhaps once 1080p screens become standard I will upgrade.
I would wait for note 2. I really like my note (i717) despite problem with custom radio for T-Mobile.
I agree I think the note is gonna be on top for a while... for a long while.

In actual tests on You Tube the Note's camera actually outperformed most others, including the S3, in picture quality.
Definitely gonna stick with the Note. I like to turn heads when using it in public. And nobody I know has it which makes it that much cooler. I can live without the slight upgrade in processing and ram.

If I hadn't picked up the Note, er, if the Note had never been produced, I would for sure be all over the GSIII, but I couldn't be happier with my Note. The GSIII is a great looking phone imho, but the screen size of the Note plus the SPen make it a winner for me. My first Android was the Captivate, followed by the Infuse, and now my Note. Needless to say, Samsung has my loyalty and it will take a huge offering to displace them. My next phone will definitely be the Note 2. I just don't see another phone topping the Note 2 based purely on my current Note.
I like the hardware style of HTC phones, but they need to make a 5.3+" AMOLED screened phone with a stylus to displace Samsung and the Note for me. Not to mention, bootloader unlocking is just something I'd rather not have to ever deal with, and I can't pull myself to stay on stock software anymore. I know it's simple enough, but it's still a nuisance to deal with bootloader unlocking. I haven't played with the newer versions of Sense either, but my phones always end up losing manufacturer overlays anyways, and so far, Touchwiz has been the most appealing for me as well.
Same goes for Motorola, I like the direction they've gone with hardware on the RAZR line, but I need this big, beautiful screen and pen, not to mention a removable back. I also have hated Motorola overlays all along, as it is just ugly and laggy on every Motorola I've played with. They also have the stupid bootloader issues that keep me at bay.
I really wish Nokia wouldn't have been so dumb and had adopted both Android and WP7, because again, I like their hardware. Maybe they'll open up to Android in the future, but that won't happen before the Note 2 is here.
All that being said, I have no complaints with Samsung hardware, as every phone I have had from them has been rock solid and sexy despite people always bashing their use of plastic. I suppose the only qualm I have is how the back of the GSIII is glossy and the Note 2 will likely follow in it's design footsteps, though I don't mind the back of my white Note at all...I just prefer the textured back of my Infuse or metal on my Captivate. I really wish the general public would stop bashing Samsung for using plastic though, I don't see it as detrimental to build quality at all, and no matter what people say, metal still scratches, scuffs and dents, and plastic still holds up great in drops.
If Samsung wanted to annihilate the market and forever hold my loyalty, they can feel free to read this post and make my ideal Note 2 =] :
*5.5-6" Super AMOLED Plus HD 1080p display
-if they could find a way, make it matte glass while keeping HD clarity...which would be tough, but possible in the future probably.
*GNex styling with textured back, matte plastic instead of glossy.
-or go a different route with something exotic...carbon fiber, ceramic, magnesium, etc. I would pay a premium price for premium materials. =]
*Full Wacom pen functionality/increased pen software integration.
*Even though MHL is getting better, mini hdmi out would be nice like Motorola has on some phones
*Bigger battery obviously, or even next gen battery technology when it comes to consumer devices.
*Next gen Exynos with LTE capability and an increase in RAM, which RAM increase is inevitable.
*Multiple internal storage options like the GSIII, I would pounce all over 64 GB internal with up to 128 GB with expandable.
*Padfone and/or Atrix style docking options. Not necessary, but would be awesome. I would like to see something like that Ubuntu docking setup, as it would make phones of the future truly all in one devices. Imagine having only one device with only peripherals to expand functionality...yes, the future will be awesome.
All of that is really unnecessary with how awesome I think my current Note is, but if they include any of that you can bet I will be throwing my money at them.

Four words, you might be wrong. With lots of proof pointing to the ASUS Nexus Tegra 3 Tablet getting Jelly Bean first there is speculation Jelly Bean will be for tablets only just like Honeycomb. It actually makes sense cause they had tablets running Gingerbread and to set tablets apart they gave us Honeycomb now theres ICS which is very similar to Honeycomb and I think Google is smart enough to know they need something else to keep people interested in Android tablets. Who knows but if you go back and read old post about Honeycomb before it was announced by Google everyone thought they would get they update on their devices but when it was anounced it was a let down cause it was only for tablets and I am willing to bet the next Android OS will also be a tablet only OS. I would also bet that every other new Android OS will be Tablet only from now on. But hey maybe I am wrong.

Three words, you are wrong. ICS was designed to make it simple for developing for both phones and tablets, hence why tablet mode is activated by a simple dpi change. ICS was made so Google doesn't have to deal with two different versions of software for tablets and phones, and both modes are built right in to one software version.
Plus, in the online Google play store, they just changed the galaxy nexus for sale to show hints at jelly bean, like the screen shown with a new stock wallpaper and different looking search bar, even right in the text description. It will be for both phones and tablets.

Best Chinese Tablet?

I saw someone with one of those Ainol Nova 7 over the weekend and I must say unlike some other cheap tabs I have used this thing looked as good as a Galaxy Tab.
I see they have a Mars 7 out for 90 bucks and it sounds good and all but you never know these things. I ended up on this website that was selling a bunch of Chinese tablets.
Are there any good cheap tablets, or should I just get a Nexus 7?
Haipai i9200 Noble
You may want to consider a Haipai i9200 or its brand new cousin the Haipai x710d. The Haipai was released earlier this year as 5.2" smartphone with a MTK6575 chip that IMHO combines the best worlds of being big enough to use as a tablet but small enough to fit in my front pants pocket. The x710d is supposedly a dual core with two MTK6577 chips.
The Haipai i9200 is a Samsung clone and has fairly good performance scores of 3200 or better on the Antutu benchmark app. We have a thread here on xda:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646544
and were released with android 4.03. We are now up 4.06 with 4.09 on the horizon, English CWM recovery and ROM support through our vendors and a site known as unclemobile in Taiwan.
Google either Haipai i9200 or Haipai x710d and see their stats on whatever seller's site comes up. You should be able to buy the former at around $180USD and the latter at $195USD.

I've been using an Ainol Novo 7 Elf for about 4 months. It's pretty decent. I recently put Cyanogenmod 9 for the AllWinner10 devices on it and am satisfied with it's performance. If I had it all to do over again, I would make sure that I got a tab with an IPS screen, like the Aurora. I really like the HDMI-out. I don't know about the "Other" Chinese manufacturers, but Ainol showed up first with a working version of ICS at some trade show a while back. I think you can still get them at merimobiles.com for $120.
Sorry to bring this thread up from the dead.
Theres a ton of these out there going dirt cheap ! I had one a few years back and it was crap lol the build quality was awful
BUT........ Now, several years later, They look amazing, Ive watched several videos and read tons of reviews and they seem like a great budget tablet.
Ive also been interest in the Ainol 7 - Anyone else around XDA got one ? If so, Whats it like in terms of getting it rooted and getting some sort of update / custom ROM ?
The only thing about the Ainol is its name Especially when someone sees me googling 'How to root my anal"
Please if this thread gets noticed share your views. Is it worth the money ? or is it better to buy the real deal ?

I'd be cautious of the Sanei brand. Youtube reviews and most forums are praising their new Quad-core N10 (AKA - Ampe A10). I ordered 2 from DHGate.com. Mine is okay. My buddy got a lemon. His died day 1, wouldn't even boot for a couple of days on the charger, then died again after a week.
Pros: 10.1" 1280x800 IPS screen, Wicked fast browsing, good video playback, great picture quality, Android 4.0.4
Cons: Battery (seems like there's just a picture of one, or an implied battery, definitely not the 8000mah advertised), battery life (3-4 hours, when it wants), battery meter (99%...wait94%...wait...82%...you get the picture), wifi is hella-weak (always dropping signal), limited apps available ("for this device"), 4.0.3(update immediately after unboxing)
Basically, worth the $200 paid. You have to have patience and a willingness to root it and dink around with it, as per forum discussions.

One X+ looks awesome but is that it?

Hey guys, I love the look of this phone, my favorite color scheme has always been red and black. But I don't want a good looking phone if its not going to perform like I want it to.
So my first concern is developer support. Since this is a very slight upgrade it is possible not many people in the development community will buy it unless it is compatible with the International One X roms? Will this be the case or not?
Second is to due with the Tegra 3. From my understanding the new S4 Pro destroys this processor. My current phone being a sensation which constantly lags I don't want to ever be subject to lag again. Is there really that much of a difference in the two processors?
Third is to due with the ram, 1gb compared to the 2gb in phones coming out now seems lackluster. What do you guys think of this, is it a huge limitation or is the 2gb of ram a fad?
Thanks guys

Would also like to know if it will be able to run the one X roms.
I dont think it would take much to change to get it to boot correctly.
But who knows until its released and people try
Im due for a upgrade, and looking at this, unless people have a better device option to upgrade to.

I would imagine there would be some modifications that would need to be made and then ported over. I say this because from what I have seen on the one x, the Jelly Bean base which is out there for the one x+ will not work properly.
I would say go for the one x+ as it is the perfected version of the one x. All of the mistakes have been rectified. I have always stuck with HTC, although I do hear good things about Samsung.

1gb ram is plenty for the moment. It will be good to go for another year or two even. Tegra is very good from personal experience, and from modifications they have made for the one x+ it seems it will be a worthy contender to be matched with!
Quad core is only really utilised when gaming. So if your a mobile gamer then this shall do the trick!

I don't understand your points:
- 1GB is enough because of non-multitasking "feature" doesn't need more RAM? (Though it's a bit better now)
- Tegra is very good from personal experience? Are you kidding? I owned Galaxy Tab 10.1 (tegra 2), Asus TF Prime and Asus TF Infinity and for me Tegra SoCs are [email protected]

[Q] what is the best Chinese tablet as for this moment

Hi there ,
I know this question was asked here a lot of times but since every day there is something new out there I must ask it again as I'm ready to order it right now.
I want to buy a good Chinese tablet , right now I'm thinking on PIPO M6 Pro 32GB which is a 9.7" tablet with Retina display , GPS , BT4 and many other nice features.
my only concern is it's weight.
I'm willing to loose some battery time for decreasing weight.
is there other good option I should consider? (size should be 9"-10" , price should be ~$250 USD)
Thank you very much for your help.

I have the Vido M10 (also known as Window (YuanDao) M10) have 4.4.2 KitKat on it also (but a customized version). Working great (you can find my full review on it on Youtube, just search for "Vido M10 s7yler"
IMO, also the "Ramos I9" looks great and the "Ifive X3" or "PIPO M8HD", but all 10" tablets (so maybe they are too heavy for your taste), what I like about these are that they are also all very thin. Not Retina, but 1920x1200 px.

the PIPO M8HD looks interesting... the only cons is the lack of GPS module...
