I have a S3 that had a cracked screen. I bought a replacement lens and during the removal the digitizer also cracked. I was a little over eager during the repair and didn't fully appreciate how well the lens and digitizer were fused. So now I have a perfectly fine screen, just a broken digitizer.
I looked around and it looks like the only options are to get the lens only or the entire assembly. Anyone know if there is a middle ground where I can replace the lens and digitizer but not the screen?
Thanks.
How would you do to replace only the digitizer ? You must remove the glass to do it, and probably break it during process.
That's why even if it's more expensive I bought the whole front piece: glass + digitizer + frame.
You can buy three things:
- front glass only: cheap but very tricky to remove it only without breaking digitizer.
- front glass + digitizer: you have to remove them from your phone, first glass, then digitizer, unglue them and so on.
- front glass + digitizer + frame: you have to move power and sound level buttons, antenna, motherboard, front camera lens, speaker and so on.
Btw what are you calling 'lens' ?

I was calling the front glass the lens. It seemed pretty easy to find just the front glass. I wasn't able to find the front glass + digitizer - there were plenty of places that said this is what you get, but looking at the pictures it only resembled the front glass. I removed both from the phone (and broke the digitizer cable in process). I ended up calling Samsung and they said they would do the whole assembly for $178. My understanding is that the whole assembly also includes the LCD, correct? Oddly enough, it appears to be more on ebay and local repair shops, so I went with sending it in.
The full assembly includes the samoled screen.

I know this has been discussed before but I would like clarification on what I need to replace on my TF201. I am attaching pictures. I actually sat on my tablet and it damaged the LCD. The glass is fine but the display is not. Can someone tell me what I can do? Do I need to replace the whole screen? It powers on okay. Thank you!

If the digitizer glass on the front is okay, you'll need to replace the LCD panel. The digitizer glass and the LCD are separate pieces. When you open your Prime, you'll see that the entire "display assembly" is a sort of sandwich. The digitizer glass is attached with dobule-sided tape to a thin piece of black plastic. The LCD is attached to the other side of the plastic with thin double-sided foam tape. Additionally, there are small brackets that hold the LCD to the plastic.
You're going to need to separate the LCD from the plastic with an exacto then clean away the remaining sticky foam crap. Order a replacement LCD, then reinstall.
Me, I reinstalled mine without using any sticky foam tape. I rely on the brackets. I'm glad I did it that way because I noticed a speck of dust after I re-assembled. It drove me nuts. If I'd used tape, I'd have never been able to get the piece of dust out.
A few notes: the LCD is VERY delicate and VERY fragile. Yours is already broken, so there's no real risk with the old one. The digitizer, comparatively, isn't quite as delicate. Still, BE CAREFUL when removing the LCD from the bracket. You DO run the risk of breaking your digitzer glass.
Also, leave the protective cover on the replacement LCD until the last possible moment of re-assembly. Use rubber gloves. You'll be unhappy if you leave a fingerprint on the replacement. Cleaning off fingerprints with alcohol or Windex risks breaking the new LCD. Did I mention that it's delicate?
Good luck
Hello, I have galaxy s3 with cracked front screen (amoled screen is not cracked) and I want to change it. I have viewed some videos about changing it and have a question about a digitizer and front glass. Example in this video http://youtu.be/6gLzEbAIGos?t=3m32s a man removes front screen (i dont know how to call it, digitizer or front glass) at 3:30 and then at 4:30 he puts a new front screen but there are no connectors on it, so how does the touch screen even works without any connectors? This man said that he bought this screen http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00932V17C/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and there's written that it is a front glass and "The LCD display and touch screen are not included". So where is the digitizer (touch screen) ??? At that video when he removed front screen there was only amoled screen left, then he put on that front screen without digitizer and touch screen worked. I am soo confused. Please explain it to me.
As I understand it the front part is simply a glass screen over the digitiser/touchscreen hence the lack of connectors, the tricky part is removing the glass from the touchscreen without damaging it, then rebonding the new glass.

But in the video when he removed that front glass without connectors there seems no digitizer left over the lcd.
The digitiser and oled screen are bonded together, the front glass is just a cover.
Don't bother with the cheap 'glass', it's usually soft plastic and useless. If you read the reviews it's clear you are buying a con.

Hello. I have had a galaxy s3 with cracked glass and tried to replace it. I have seen many videos on youtube how to replace it. Basically people on these videos heat the screen and then remove the front glass easily, because the digitizer is glued to the lcd. But when I tried to remove it it came off quite easily, but only then I noticed that the digitizer was glued not to the lcd but to the front glass, so when i tried to remove front glass I accidentally broke the digitiser connector and somehow damaged the lcd. You can see photos here:

http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Samsung-galaxy-S-III-/00/s/MTYwMFg5MDE=/z/QREAAMXQ74JTUq67/$_58.JPG (in this photo you can see that the digitizer was glued to the front glass very strongly)
I would like to ask, do you know why the digitizer could have been glued to the front glass but not to the lcd? And why the lcd could have been damaged while removing front glass??
I would really wanna know the answer myself, as I ordered one that should have reached yesterday, but as they do not work on weekends, it will be here tommorow, and I don't wanna brake my display forever, especially because mine is not that damaged.
Any ideas?
my advice don't bother with a glass replacement. I HAVE TRIED TWICE and as the op said the digitizer is glued to the front glass. this has been the case with both the original screen and two replacement lcd/digitizer/glass assemblies that i personally took apart. each time the glass was fused to the digitizer . i used a heat gun and a laser thermometer and still i failed. I was successful replacing the whole screen assembly twice . but those cost about $130 from amazon, com. These replacements may seem at first like oem but the ones i got cracked very easily. they dont use the gorilla glass and the quality is not as good. one replacement was really bad in sunlight. could not see anything. after my screen cracked a third time i got a galaxy s 5 . and started using a case and screen protector.
Hi Guys,
I found a seller on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Back-rear-c...i-2-3-4-Mi2-Mi3-Mi4-Redmi-Note-/272046963773?
Who is selling the replacement glass for my phone, I have a slight crack along the lens that is causing focus issues when I take photo's,
It's cheap and I want to go ahead and purchase it, however before I Go ahead I need to know if I will be able to easily remove the piece and replace it? Is it just held in there by glue? does anyone know or have any experience in doing a replacement?
I changed camera glass on my Xiaomi Note 1 easily. You just need to open a phone and push glass from other side of holder. Replacement glass has adhesive tape on it. The quality of photos was increased very well. Replacement glass can be found on Aliexpress.
I cracked my rear glass and purchased the replacement 'JerryRigEverything' recommended on his how-to replacement video on youtube. Not only did it arrive with a crack, but it has adhesive covering the entire back side and not just the edges. I bought another one on ebay which I just received today and same thing, adhesive covering the entire back (minus the lens and sensors of course), even though the seller assured me the adhesive was only on the edges.
So does anyone have a good source for replacement rear glass that has adhesive only around the edges like the original one?

You can try this one. I think it might have what your looking for. I would just get some double sided tape. I found it works better for me.
