is it possible to flash this phone (Atrix 4g) without a battery and only the wall charger connected? i've did some search and couldn't find anything specific on this phone but it seem like its not possible to do so on android. maybe i'm wrong cuz today i was having some freezing problems and i did a battery pull but before i reinsert the battery out of curiosity i connected the wall charger and booted into recovery. of course i didn't do a wipe and flash to test it out myself since i don't have the time for all of that but i got into recovery without the battery. is that normal and does that mean you can flash a rom without a battery?
I think so... but be warned that any energy fail will lead to a possible brick of ur atrix

i wasn't actually thinking about doing it but it was just curious if its possible.. curiosity got the best of me..
you made me curious, so I did a small test with a gapps, and it worked without battery xD

good to know it works. thats great. now no more worrying about battery when flashing a ROM (sometimes i'm just too impatient to wait till my battery charge to flash a new ROM. we all know that little feeling we get when a new ROM comes out)
now i can just leave my charged plugged in with the battery.. if battery fails the wall charger should continue.. all my electronics are connect to a backup battery so i don't think i ever have to worry about the wall charger losing power. those battery go for 2 - 3 hours
I don‘t think so!don’t do this

I have galaxy s 2 with miui and that won't charge when off, which is not good when battery totally drained, as now can not charge phone
had to buy 2nd battery?
I read this is a FEATURE of CM7, is this correct?
Do I need stock rom to be able to charge a drained battery?
any other options? could buy external docking charger I suppose
Which rom are you using? Not to familiar with miui but my phone charges while off with CM7 and miui is based off that.
In fact ive never had this issue maybe it is rom specific or your using a cheep unofficial battery.
Using original battery, something to do with cwm as if downgrade it charges again, but is worry as download mode wont work if battery too flat.

I had exactly the same problem with MIUI. It seems like it is ROM-specific. Now I am on CM 7.1 and it works fine.

My dad went to use the tablet this morning and its somehow over night gotten bricked. All it does is when its plugged in the orange light flashes. ADB still picks it up but no commands are functioning. Please help i desperately need it.
Can you access the bootloader?
He neglected to tell me that the charger wasnt completely plugged in...as soon as i had it plugged into my laptop for around 5 mins i pushed an adb reboot command and it turned back on.
Thanks anyway bro!
A question then. Is it dangerous to empty the battery or what? Is it cous of the cwm not charging?
And why did you have to reboot it with adb?
I have flached a custom rom on my fathers flyer 3g. Should I be scared for the battery?

As far as I know, people don't recommend to empty the batteries from 100% to 0%, better let it discharge to ~8-10%? and plug it in and let it to either charge fully, or somewhere to ~90%.
And no, you shouldn't be scared, flashing custom ROMs won't kill your battery, it's software, not hardware
See I was tryin to reboot it with adb because I was under the assumption it was soft bricked.

What Im a little bit scared of is when battery goes to zero I cant charge it any more. I read some where about flyer not charging because cwm had a flaw but battery then goes to zero i have to change the batter physicaly.
If that is not the problem, why is it best to not decharge battery ?

Ok so phone doesn't charge as fast as usual and while charging and using it loses battery percentage and never has before. Also when I get a full charge then unplug it goes straight down to 12%. What do you guys think.... Battery or port problems?

The only way to know that answer is to rule out possibilities. Try different batteries and chargers.

clear battery cache and try.
if it false please replace it with genuine battery.Unless it will restart during the charging

I just bought another battery. I found it was the battery more than port problems or anything like that. My friend and I have the same phones, same roms. We tested this by first going through 3 power cycles. After we charged it, we had only the same apps working, except for some minor checking of FB and twitter (I don't use twitter, but he does).
After our 4th power cycle, it seemed like his phone was dying faster w/ my battery in it. His battery in my phone lasted about 5-10 hours more, I did my normal daily activities on it, even played some youtube videos in class.
So I bought a new one, and bam, stays alive more than 12 hours

I also had the same issue in my i777. i changed OEM batteries and doesn't work. for me it was the PORT.
i ordered 1 from ebay and replaced. now its work fine.
please change the port. it will work perfectly
work around
i am using super nexus rom battery life is great compared to stock.
try tablet charger if you have. it will charger your phone faster. i am using my nexus 10 charger its definitely taking less time to charge.

Common sense post of the day:
You have to be really careful getting phone accessories off e-bay. In the past I've been duped into buying a fake SD card and a wonky battery.
Does anyone still condition their batteries whenever flashing new ROMS and such? I remember back when I had the Vibrant when it first came out and I learned about custom ROMs and xda forums, you always had to condition your battery afterwards. This idea still relevant at all for keeping a healthy battery or extending its life cycle?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
It's helped me, so yes I still do it after flashing new roms..

If you mean charging your phone to 100% and deleting batterystats.bin, that process is pretty useless. The battery stats file is automatically deleted when your phone reaches 100%, and unless you phone is almost dead, just use and charge it normally.
I usually calibrate the battery using battery calibration only after I have went from dead to 100% on the battery on a new ROM. If you have any issues with drainage like I have on Tweaked before, just do it.

I've has GN2 since launch day. Never conditioned the battery once, never had a single battery problem on stock, Cleanrom or Tweaked. This is the first phone in a long time that the battery just works and lasts and lasts without micromanagement.
I've been wondering this since I got this phone. I always saw the battery threads in the charge forum and thought it was weird when I didn't see that here. I've dine it a few times on this phone but I guess now I know that I don't need too.

I've been using my Note II for a couple of weeks now and I never had to do any conditioning when using anything TouchWiz based. I flashed an AOSP ROM for the first time today, so I'll be keeping an eye out to see the changes.
Also do you guys think its a bad idea to flash ROMs without a fully charged battery?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I do battery conditioning...it's called letting the battery management system do it's job and not trying to interfere.
And, there is no particular advantage to flashing with a full charge. I actually can't remember the last time I did, and I'm thinking back across 3 phones over two years. The worst you might get is a messed up percentage until you fully charge, but even that is rare.
The only thing I would worry about if flashing while low on battery would be the device dying mid flash.
Other than that I can see no reason not to.
Right on, thanks for the responses guys. Yeah I just been curious about this because before I used to always see people talk about conditioning batteries and wiping battery stats etc.

Pretty sure the main reason you don't want to flash on a low battery is it could run out while it's still flashing. I've flashed at 30% and no ill affects.
People should go here and then make up their own minds rather then try to follow a bunch of mixed information.

i calibrated using the playstore app followed all directions and now my phone takes 17 to 18 hours to charger from 0% no less than 12 from any other percentage any ideas what i can do? this started happening the day after i calibrated any help would be much apreciated
thanks
This is a fresh flash and install which I assumed would save battery life. Either my battery is extremely retarded or something in the combination isn't correct. After unplugging from my charger, I instantly lose 5% and can watch it count down. The stock rom lasts well over 6 hours with constant use.

I'm using a similar setup (jbx+pacrom+gapps) make sure you reset the settings in trickster mod if you had that installed before it makes a difference. and make sure your init.d folder is empty. just a bunch of things that could throw the kernel off and make it chug battery. other then that I wouldn't know works wonderfully for me :/
also thinking more that happened to me on a fresh fresh install as well unless it counts all the way down to zero very fast it may just be android not knowing your battery yet. (tho i may be wrong on that but my battery doesnt hold a full charge anymore and it drops rather quickly at first unplug)
