Strange heating problem on different carriers - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi flashed the omega rom 43.3 and using Vodafone IN (2G) carrier phone works perfect and no hearing at all and very good battery life... But 2 days ago i shifted my carrier to TATA DOCOMO (3G). And phone stated heating on bottom right corner side. I think may be due to using 3g carrier so i choose network 2g only. But still phone heating continously and please help. My BATTERY DRAINS more than 30 % faster... I am using baseband XXELLA.... PLEASE HELP

Can this be true?? I thought if the phone was on 2g it would save mor power on standby than being on standby than 3g can sum1 just confirm or your own experinces thanx, or and sorry for my grammer and punctuation im not that good at writing :-D

In my area the 3g signal isn't really good. So If I have 3g enabled the signal in my phone changes from 2g to 3g and then back again to 2g almost all the time, I guess that kind of depletes the battery quicker than just staying on a 2g network.
That's just a guess, and more than often my guesses are wrong.

Well I always have full signal were I live so it never goes on 1 bar so my pro doesnt have to fight to keep the signal therefore less battery drain if im correct? I just dont get why 3g standby is alot mor than 2g stanby on spec sheet maybe we could have some opinions from the devs them selves

You can always choose "WCDMA only", but with that signal...
Unless the phone is switched off you'll be unlikely to get more than 48hrs before charge. 2g in my opinion uses less power, it depends, if your downloading files you might spend 2 mins with an active 2g connection rather than seconds with a 3g! Swings and roundabouts.

Ok.. on 3G... tell me how.
Because i hardly believe that 3G lasts longer than 2G.
360 hours = 12 days... i smell troll farts.
Because if data is not enabled.. you are not using 2G or 3G you are using GSM and then your battery life makes sense.
Other than that... NO.
that is just a swap data, they just make a mistake and battery life of this phone is really less in general duo many bugs

It's the same story with the big X10.
They say 30 day standby.... if it's in flight mode.
Who uses a phone in flight mode?

I didnt see it lyk that but 2g and 3g are totaly diffrent networks u cant download on 2g with 3g speeds can you??? Nope so there for therefore there 2 diffrent networks and if you go buy what you said it doesnt make sence to me? Or and my other point is if you dont use data your still on the network you choose lets just say as an example I done some web surfing on 3g and then I turned data off it doesnt go on gsm does it because when I turn data on its stil 3g network so gsm doesnt even come into the equation but I do agree that sony lied about standby time on this wonderful bit of technology that we have here ;-)

I'm just too proud to have one currently so i wont have a discussion over how Cellular radio's work. My mini pro = PRO.
The recent FIX makes me wonder if the Big x10 isn't missing a few libs.

Same here no point debaiting over gsm radio lol but you could be right about the big x10 its just a shame that big phone companies base standyby time on the phone when you dont go near the thing and its left in flight mode why cant they jus go on daily usage ov the handset from heavy usage to even light usage

Awful signal strength

I bought an s3 a week ago on ebay. That was my first mistake the signal strength is awful browsing the internet without wifi is really bad it can take up to 5 secs to load google. Now my wife has an S3 with tmobile uk and hers is fine. Mine was originally on vodaphone but I am on O2 I have put her sim in mine flashed to the same stock rom and my s3 has still a poor signal normally two bars. Just tested I get -105dbm and 4asu. I can only conclude that after trying every network rom combination my phone is faulty. I had no joy with the ebay seller I am not sure I could take it to vodaphone as I was not on the original contract. Any idea guys how a resale affects warranty, ideally I would like the handset replaced or repaired. Lessen learned not to try and get an ebay bargain
How much did you pay for the phone??

I've just looked at the status of my phone and I'm getting 95dbm and my phones fine, where do you live?? I live in hampshire on vodafone and the signal here is variable, despite living within a cats throwing distance to the cell tower (5mins walk)

As stated, try an alternative modem which has resolved my network issues previously.
If it is still not resolved, contact Samsung - don't mention eBay purchases - the serial number will show up fresh on their system (tested with known blocked handsets lol) they will organised a repair; and 9/10 times will not request a proof of purchase unless referring you to a local center; but this issue would be hardware related so they will request sending it in. Just ensure you go back to stock.
thanks for the info. I expect Samsung should repair anything as long as the iemi number is not reported as stolen.
tried the LF2 modem and its made no difference, however I have used an tmobile sim this morning, signal strength is the same but 3g/H data is working really fast, now I am wondering if my data on my o2 sim is poor as its cut down microsim. going to get a proper 02 microsim and test again

As long as the gold contacts on the bottom have not been damaged it will have no effect - plus it wouldn't effect data tbh as all the phone will do is read your networks information and they send/receive the data. But feel free to try; I personally have noticed that 3G/HSPA/+ is a lot slower on O2 compared to any other network tbh - but then again these data connections for O2 has only recently been added to my area, up until a few months ago the fastest we could get was Edge on O2, while the rest of the networks in my area has had 3G for at least 2 years lol.

T-Mobile HSDPA/EDGE

Hi guys I'm using an unlocked GT-I9300 on T-Mobile USA. This weekend I noticed the signal fluctuating from full bars to no bars where I usually get good coverage. Today I went to the about phone setting and noticed it was on HSDPA-9 when it gets bad signal and on EDGE when it gets the normal good signal. I'm curious what this means. I thought international sgs3 could only get edge on T-Mobile US? I'm not using data btw, connected to wifi, yet the signal still fluctuates.
My phone was branded T-Mobile Germany, but I flashed unbranded UK ICS.

Signal dropping on Three UK

Morning guys. All was running well until about 20 mins ago. I am running V4.2.1 DLJ4 with siyah 1.7rc1. Dual booting with the Three UK rom as primary.
about 20mins ago my data stopped and the data icon switches from 3G to H to H+ then to 3G and then drops out completely on both roms. I know its not the network as I am using my mates AP hotspot to connect to write this and he is on Three UK too. I have tried different modems but no luck. Any advice guys?

Signal loss on EE UK S3s?

I'm based in NE England and work in an office with 5 other S3 users all of which are on EE. 2 bought Sim free phones and use an originally Orange Sim, one has a branded Orange phone and one has a branded TMobile one. The other person has a Tmobile 4G phone. The only one that isn't stock is one of the Sim free phones (mine)
All but the 4G phone lose signal several times a day but show 3 bars. There is no data connection and the phones cannot make or receive calls. If they are reset or toggled between 3G & 2G then they work again for a while.
This behaviour happens at work and at home. No other phone user has this problem - there are a few iphone & non smartphone users who gloat constantly
Anyone else suffering as badly as us?
All fine here. Sim free phone under TM contract.
Under carrier it says either TM/Orange never EE for some strange reason.
Exynos SIII; CM10.1
why not post in the help section?
Try different modems and make sure ril/modem match
Here's your answer: EE sucks!!
Lots of people reported signal loss on many different devices, I'll blame EE not S3s.... I've got one of my phones on Orange and since EE showed up, I'm experiencing signal problems as well. Many times people trying to call me, my phone shows full reception but is unavailable and voice mail kicks in!!!! It's annoying but this behaviour is a Network fault. Nothing to do with phone imho.
The only thing you can check is Baseband version (modem) of all phones and compare to the one which works fine. Maybe all except one have wrong modems installed. Unlikely but can happen
Next time use Q&A section to post your problems or questions..

Has everyone changed their APN to 'everywhere'? No signal problems here in the south - getting four bars, H+ and 12Mbps data speed.
I'm in the south also, no problems here, in fact excellent!
I get bandwidth issues and signal drops. Been on orange & tmobile for years and it only became an issue with the arrival of EE.
Most of the time the signal/speed is great tho.
I'm north west UK
Worth trying one check correct network settings and two try different modems .
