I received my lovely (and exorbitantly expensive) HTC One today. It's a well made phone, attractive and solidly built. I was very pleased with it until I discovered it has no SD Card slot and, more importantly, no way to replace the battery!
As Becool0130 has observed, "Within 1 year time the battery life wont be as good." I personally have worn out and replaced three batteries in my previous phone before the phone itself died and needed replacing. (That's why I bought the HTC One.)
How on Earth could anyone think that making a disposable $580 phone was a good idea??
Do not buy the HTC One.

Because it received favorable reviews, I liked the technical specifications, and it was reported to work well with T-Mobile's "Wifi Calling" feature. Unfortunately, none of that makes up for the fact that the phone is disposable.
No, I did not make a point of checking to make sure the battery can be replaced when it wears out, just like I don't make a point of checking to make sure the tires on a car can be replaced when they wear out. Why would I? Everyone knows they wear out, so why would anyone make a car that has non-replaceable tires, or a phone that has a non-replaceable battery? The entire idea is absurd.
It's not a mistake that I will make again, and I will do what I can to help prevent others from making the same mistake.
Thank you for your kind comments.

Well, lesson learned about researching before buying. HTC has been designing their phones without replaceable batteries for a couple of years now. Of course, the Iphone also has a fixed battery. It allows for a more sturdy construction and somewhat sleeker designs. The battery was one of my main concerns before buying.
FWIW, I'm a fairly light user, and I go about 20 hours on 50% battery. So for my daily use it is fine. However I think that with full power and gaming, my phone would only do about 7 hours before I'd have to seek a charger.
Is Samsung still hiring?
The more and more I travel, the more I run into situations where an outlet is available. On my workday, without any 'power conservation' options or debloating, my One runs from 7am-7pm with roughly 50% charge left. I use it quite a bit to check feeds, text, the occasional game - and music streaming mornings/afternoons on my 15-30 minute subway commute. I only use it heavily on the train/bus/plane, and usually plugs are available... I guess a car would prove more difficult, but a car charger would help if I was in the passenger seat and gaming on it the whole time or watching movies. And I certainly did not purchase this Mercedes of a phone because I was going to go backpacking with it.
But - everyone I know uses their phone differently - I personally would not consider the phone disposable by a longshot.
If iphones last as long as they do with out replacing a battery i see no reason why our phones wont last a long time. Also obvious troll is obvious.

Don't people do their homework these days or ask questions before buying??
I scratched up the bottom speakers grill and sent it back to be repaired. They soar they have to replace the screen too even though it works perfectly fine. They quoted me 180 dollars -.-
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
No, they make an uniformed decision and then come here talking about liking the technical specs and being surprised by the lack of sd card and imbedded battery... Both of which are clearly stated in the specs I read.
And I'm sure someone on XDA will shortly figure out an easy method to replace the battery. And if not it's a good excuse to get the next latest and greatest...

I have never payed more than $30 for a watch. Why do I need one with apps or customizable display. That's what I have an Android phone for. I mean unless they eventually turn this into an actual wrist phone, I don't see myself ever being interested.

Seems excessive and gimmicky. It's like having a cell phone for my cell phone. Why mount this watch on my bicycle when I can just mount my cell phone on my bicycle? Waste of money in my eyes.
Already a backer
I'm already a backer, can't wait to get one.
I won't lie, it's a niche accessory and a little pricey.
But i think we might find some really novel uses for this.
and if they become popular prices could drop for similar
watches in the future.
I really have no use for one even though I'm a huge gadget freak. I'll admit it would be cool to have but it'll probably be one of those things where the novelty runs out quickly and after like a month or two you'll be like why did I buy this? I can't even imagine trying to type on that thing.
Honestly, I think I would take the MotoActv over the Pebble. MotoActv runs a full Android OS, and has better integration with Android phones and more features overall than the Pebble watch does.
It'd be nice if it also integrated with wireless heart rate monitors (common for runners). My fiance has the monitor and it comes with its own watch, but its entirely observational - has no recording capability. Since this thing connects to your phone, it could store your exercise stats in an app.
But thats IF it could connect to both your phone and heart rate monitor simultaneously. I wish the monitor would connect to the phone, but no app available and pretty sure its RF instead of bluetooth.
ooooooo. i need the red one.

Hey guys, so yesterday I made the switch to Sprint (it's waaay cheaper than VZW here..) and in return I got rid of my Rezound in exchange for the beautiful HTC One. I'm gonna miss all the talented developers here but I'm gonna miss Snuzzo's kernel and how helpful he is the most . It sucked selling my Rezound after having it for over a year and a half. I came from an iPhone to the Rezound, so everyone here made my first Android experience a great one. The reasoning behind it is because my Rezound's digitizer plug-in was messed up after replacing my screen twice, my front housing was peeling off from opening it, the vibrating motor was broke and the battery life was..well, we know our Rezounds and their batteries lol. I never post but I feel like I'm friends with everyone here just because this community is so nice and helpful. I'm gonna miss you all .
PS the One is amazing. I'm not as wowed as I was with my Rezound because I'm already familiar with Sense and Android, but it feels great in my hands and looks amazing.
I just bought a pair of Nexus 4s for the wife and I and switched to T-Mobile. This is definitely an awesome little dev community. Many thanks to all!

First; thank you for the kind words BOTH OF YOU. Good to see I helped you. Second; Who says I won't be doing anything on the Htc One?
I will definitely miss this community too! 3 days before I leave for basic training, my battery goes south and the earliest I can get a new battery is sometime on Tuesday...when I'll already be on a plane to Ft. Jackson. Bought a GS3 on CL, and I must say, the battery life is so phenomenal compared to the Rezound. 12+ hours compared to my average 4-6.
Will definitely miss the devs! I've been here since launch day in November 2011. My oh my how far development has come!!
And now Jellybean is out! I gotta stop monitoring this board cause now I'm hurting lol

Just picked up my 3rd Rezound... a minty used one with a ton of accessories and extra batteries, for $155. Nothing about this phone makes it anywhere near obsolete, but you guys just keep chasing after the latest, greatest shiny new device, and keep spending $$$. The smarter ones will be around to pick up your dirt cheap discarded leftovers. I'm still on my very first Rezound (purchased on Black Friday 2011), I just gave a used "spare" to my wife after her old dumb phone died, and now I have another backup/experimenting phone for cheap.

Ahhh... I see. Common sense is the new Jealousy. :silly:
I could pay cash for a new One every month, and never miss the money. I don't live in my mom's basement, either. Fact remains, the Rezound is still a great device, and other than the lemming-like desire to have the "latest and greatest" (for no other reason than the dread of feeling left out of the stampede), there's no real reason to switch from it.
BTW... how much better was that Nexus than your Rezound? (my wife has one for a company-issued phone, and it SUCKS compared to her Rezound)
I am thinking of getting an S4 to replace my Rezound and use the Rezound to replace my D1. That way I can still have the best of both worlds.

I liked my Nexus way better vs my Rezound. Battery life was better, call quality was great, no creaky back and no washed out colors like the LCD on the Rezound. I do admit that the display on the Rezound is more crisp. That and all AOSP roms atm on the Nexus are way smoother for now. The only reason I dropped the Nexus is cause the screens would keep crapping out on me. Once developement starts firing up for the S4 bye bye S3! Plus if you have the financial standing to buy a new device and have enough left over in your bank for rainy days why care? Spend your money on things you enjoy! Spoil your wife and kids! When you croak and have a nice life insurance policy they'll be set for some time.

Again, even though I myself CAN AFFORD to get a new device. I've not had a reason to. I guess assets and a word call saving doesnt apply when you said "disposable". Just save the "disposable" income. May need it one day.

When we're talking about a devices that are hobbled by the inability to replace batteries when they go dead (planned obsolescence), or upgrade memory (thus forcing users into relying on cloud storage and higher data charges), then yes... it is a lesser intelligence issue. You're playing into the provider's hands, rather than calling your own shots. (OOOoooo.... look!! SHINY!!!)

Dealing with AT&T has been a pain. The first three devices had a flaw or the other.
1. 1st device had scuffs and scratches and a fully sunken in volume rocker. I'd had to force my fingernail into the volume rocker housing to trigger a response.
2. 2nd one kept rebooting on itself and would show me an exclamation point.
3. 3rd one wouldnt charge past 95% and the speaker grill was raised and wasn't flush with the device.
If anyone has to exchange more than once AT&T will give you a hard time about it, but you reiterate to them and tell them clearly that the device was DOA out of box and/or defective.
This 4th one has been good so far. Crossing my fingers that this one is perfect. Once again I'm disappointed that HTC's device is a beauty, but the quality control has been atrocious. Wonder if it is a batch issue.

All three of them had pretty much unacceptable issues. Especially if its a serious hardware issue, the battery doesnt work, etc. If you're paying premium buck for something then you expect it to come out of the box looking and working like a premium device. Im talking strictly out of the box without user error or damage coming into play. I'm not the only one, look at the links i posted.

-Cases that don't fit
-Screen protectors that don't stick, or hamper the device
-A mess of cables
-Chargers that won't charge, or worse could fry something
Not to mention it's proven moot to order on day one in hopes you'll get the device earlier. That could change but still, whatever. That 820 though. Two times the power two times the efficiency

-Cases that don't fit
-Screen protectors that don't stick, or hamper the device
-A mess of cables
-Chargers that won't charge, or worse could fry something

All the reasons you list got nothing to do with the phone.

Ordered 29th September order still pending. If I order today phone ships tomorrow. GOOGLE SUPPORT,? I could buy a jock strap with better support.

- Don't like cases. Never have. Have yet to break a screen on a phone in the last 6 years or so. I'm gentle.

- Never use a screen protector either. I did tests in school to show most screen protectors actually increase the chances of your screen shattering as opposed to not having one on. They are good for keeping your screen scratch free but we have Gorilla Glass 4 here people.

- Mess of cables. Well this won't end anytime soon. I have duffel bags full of wires and chargers. So yes another added charger type is a pain, but i'm loving the charge time compared to my Note 4 Fast Charging.

Not to mention it's proven moot to order on day one in hopes you'll get the device earlier. That could change but still, whatever. That 820 though. Two times the power two times the efficiency

That's the whole idea of being an early adopter. Taking a risk. Being an early adopter doesn't guarantee you will get a perfect product everytime. I enjoy the risk, and if it doesn't work out, my credit card company ensures i get my money back.
So please stop calling yourself an early adopter if you cannot accept the risk, especially with your issues that involve 3rd party accessories and not the phone itself.
I've purchased every Nexus phone at launch and a few tablets. I've never had a "bad" device or filed a RMA. Either I'm really, really lucky or I don't get worked up about very minor things...

I must have a Nexus preorder 'rush' every year, learning the device challenge and flashing asap on XDA! Everything thing has worked out well so far.
Bought the clear case from Google and it fits perfect. Got a illumishield screen protector off eBay and again, fits perfect.
ordered screen protector off amazon oct 30th and shipped then and still hasnt arrived. ordered skinomi yesterday or day before and be here by monday. cant use the phone until i got that on it

It's always the vocal ones that have something bad to say against the nexus program. I've never had any problem with any of the nexus purchases i've made. The more vocal ones on the forums complain about the minor things like you said, yellow screen, pink screen, etc etc. Most of the complains are user error or "OCD" problems.
My OP was partially in jest.... Don't mean to complain.

Wow, that the longest empty post I've ever seen!
Funny thing. The vast majority use cases, screen protectors, and are somewhat annoyed at the mess that is aftermarket USB C.

An empty post? Ridic. I couldn't have said it better myself. Haters gonna hate. Best phone I ever got on day 2 order. But it's becoming a chore to negate the detractors. Are any of them shills? I certainly hope that is not the case. Although I did read that they are paid to trash other devices. Could not be right?

Oh lord...please stop.
No ones hating. He simply stated that the frustration of not being able to buy fully functioning accessories for a brand new flagship device has him contemplating waiting for things to be stable before making a purchase next time.
No ones hating. It's a valid frustration. Not bring able to protect your device, charge it in the car etc. He's not blaming the device. He didn't say he doesn't like it. He simply said he might wait for the dust to settle next time...
The conspiracy theories of members actually being rival manufacturers shill posters posting these generally vague negatives are just ridiculous. Anytime someone has a gripe, complaint, or problem people start defending the phone like its their deceased brother that the have to protect their legacy at any cost. It's so out of hand...
And once again this just goes to show what happens when people get a development device and want accessories right away. You will find they make few things for devices like this. You will find far better cases, cords and screen protectors for mainstream devices.
Sorry, I have to disagree with that.
Nexus isn't a development device anymore. When they're advertising them on hulu commercials while streaming "The Voice", they've officially relinquished the development device title. At least as the primary target audience.
These nexii are aimed at everyone now. They're not the crude, buggy dark Android devices of the past. They're the clean Android showcase, and they're designed for everyone.
Again though, I'm not blaming Google for anything. It's frustrating that these 3rd party companies rush what are advertised as pricey. Quality items. OPs main point was that he might want to wait next time.for the dust to settle before purchasing a device, as to not deal with shoddy out of spec items.

The nexus will always be mainly a development device. Other wise things like Root and unlocking the bootloader would be much harder. Even commercials target a a group of people. Couldnt really say as I have never even seen a commercial for it but that could be the simple fact that I dont watch commercials at all. I mean really look at it. What devices are shown at Google I/O which is a developers conference. Not mainstream devices, no flagships just the nexus devices. Their main target has always been developers. yes they may target the average joe but they are the secondary targets at best.
