phone randomly becomes completely unresponsive - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all
recently ive been experiencing an issue where my phone will become completely unresponsive. It never occurs while im using the phone, only when i decide to unlock it i find out its unresponsive. This issue occurs about once a week.
it wont unlock
wont respond to any button presses
charging light wont come on
the only way to resolve it is to take the battery out and put it back in then every is normal. im fully roooted and using the foxhound rom however no one else has reported this issue. Prior to flashing this rom i had done a complete mega wipe.
anyone know what this is or what can be done to resolve it?

[Q] Problem: screen turns off (and sometimes turn back on with high brightness)

I've searched the forum but I didn't see a similar issue.
My phone is new, I bought it a few days ago and it came with 2.2.1 froyo.
As a xda user, I started to search for roms and decided to try the CodeROM v2x-2b.
I flashed KPN and then the CodeROM. The flashing process ran without problems.
The system is running well except for 2 problems:
One of the problems is that when I'm using the phone, sometimes it's screen turns off. Sometimes it turns on after a moment, with a very high bright level. Other times it just remains off.
In both cases I must press the power button twice (as I was locking and unlocking the phone) and it comes back in lock screen (wich means the system doesn't freeze, it's just a screen issue).
Sometimes it happens quite often, sometimes it takes a while to happen.
I flashed Gls-mt-ROM today but the problem continues. For me, it indicates it's not a Rom problem.
The other problem I'm still gonna research a little more before posting here.
Does someone have a clue about what can this problem be?
Edit:
I reflashed CodeRom with the brazilian modem file from this thread.
Until now, seems to solved the screen problem. Seem to solved other 2 problems too (GPS and wifi).
I can't figure how screen and modem are connected.
Does this information make any sense?

Yes.
I think I did it before and after flashing the CodeROM (the tutorial was saying to do so) and before flashing the Gls-mt-Rom.
I don't think doing it again will solve the problem. Should I think that?

Unresponsive Screen

I've experienced a problem with my Atrix actually quite randomly one day. While on jokersax's CM9 KANG ROM my touchscreen and capacitative buttons became unresponsive at a seemingly random time.
I've tried to wipe dalvik cache, reflash the ROM, wipe to factory settings and then reflash the ROM, even tried the PDS partition fix but nothing has worked.
I don't know what to do now... can anybody help from here? Thank you so much!
After trying all that I would start wondering about the hardware not the software
Hit thanks if this was helpful

Hi, you just described my exact problem. I'm using GingerMod 2.3.6 # 9 but I can't remember if I had this problem with the French ROM, that was my first Custom firmware. The only way to make it back to normal in my case was pulling out the battery and, recently I discovered that "adb reboot" worked too, so, if I'm not near a PC I need to pull the battery...
I'm afraid it's a HW problem, since my warranty was voided almost a week after I got the phone. Hopefully someone could post something that can help us.

I had this same problem and eventually my screen wouldn't work no matter what. I tried all the same things you guys did to no avail. I just flashed a stock fruitcake [couldn't find original recovery] and sent it in to Moto. They just got it a couple of days ago and I'm still waiting to hear back from them. Hopefully they look past my software modifications and realize that it's obviously a hardware issue.
When I was on miui rom a few months back, this problem was very small and almost never happened.
Back to cm7 nightlies and it happens all the time.
Just happened. Lol

Same problem..
Flashed Turl's CM9, experienced a crash and 30% of the screen has become unresponsive since... It sucks and I need proof of purchase in order to send it in.. Too bad I bought it second hand.. Motorola... never again.
Me too. I've been blessed by unresponsive capacitive buttons. I was looking on how to edit an ICS Rom to include on screen buttons, but I just settled on downloading Button Savior to save time.
Is it possible that there is a bad connection inside the phone that I could fix by myself?
If someone knows how to make a ROM I would love if there were an on screen keyboard ROM (fingers crossed!!!).
F word... same problem for me.. i dont think it is hw because i just got my phone back from motorola for a dead touch zone repair. it never became unresponsive until i put cm9 on it... WE NEED A FIX!!!! i cannot use my phone at all. pds fix didnt work for me either

[Q] Touch

Hello.
I have a problem. It started some time ago but now it gets annoying.
I used Ryze aka Yoda rom and touchscreen stopped working when I press button on top of the phone. I need to push i again and again and then screen works. The most annoying thing is that I have a phone call that is super important but I cant pick it up because the screen doesnt work. When I press the button 2x it drops the call. That is super f*cking annoying.
Now im using helicotper build I start to have the same problem but now my phone dont even turn on. It just stays at HTC logo. I did fresh instal about 5 times but nothing. Is it my phones fault?
I had the screen issue before when I was using Yoda ROM so I tought its ROMs fault. Now it starts to happen in other roms too. Any suggestions? What could be the problem?

This is a separate issue. Sounds like you are not flashing the right kernel or wrong hboot.

If it's happening with other roms, it's a hardware failure of the digitizer. Replacing the digitizer is the only way to fix it.

The problem is that it starts one time. Phone turns off and next time you turn it on it doesnt get further than HTC.
Probably digitizer costs half price of the phone. -_-

random freezes (with CM roms)

Hi, I had CM10.1 running for a while. Since a few weeks I got random freezes when I wanted to turn on the screen it stayed off (LED was flickering, so the phone was still on). After a forced reboot (vol up+power button) it worked, but as it kept happening I wanted to try a full wipe. By the way: it happened every single night too, my phone was flickering its LED, but didnt react, and also alarm wasnt working (FML).
When messing around with this (I'm not really an expert at flashing/CM) and trying to restore my phone with TitaniumBU it kept freezing when working (to) fast. So I tried a lot with formatting SD, doing other wipes etc. Nothing really seem to help, as the random freezes kept happening.
Now I've installed the stable CM9, but already had freezes (even with the startup wizard in the beginning). I'm getting the feeling that its some hardware related issue. Can anybody tell me more about these problems, and mayb what else I can try.
Last try is to turn it al back to Touch Wiz, unroot, but I have to figure out how to. Hope this will solve it.

Sorry, plz move my thread where it belongs (im noob).
After some searching I found that it might not be a CM related problem, but something with 'sudden death' happening to more people with other ROMs or even without custom roms.

New development: my phone is now stuck at Samsung GSIII logo. Doesn't go further from there. I'm planning to go to Samsung with it. It is not unrooted, so my Q is;
can they see that it is rooted when the phone doesn't get past the boot logo?

Constant reboot not caused by rom

My note started doing this after it went through airport security. It was in a bag and went through the x-ray machine. It randomly reboots very often, probably between 20-60 second intervals. I was on CM10, then I flashed back to stock ICS, and then finally up to the official JB update. None of which has solved this problem.
i posted in here.. this may help.

Phone is stuck in a boot loop and this is what I know so far. Phone is on stock ROM, power button is working fine, I can get to recovery and OS and download mode, and while phone was charging I took the battery out and the phone keeps vibrating. I now know it's a hardware problem for me (I think), but I can not pin point where. Any advise would be helpful cause I really love my note and this is just breaking my heart.:crying:
