Can anyone confirm if the HTC Quick Root tool is working for both rooting and fully unrooting?
I need to able to unroot as easily as possible should something happen to my device, since I've only had it for a few days and is still on warranty, which is why I'm avoiding unlocking the bootloader for now.
Attached is the software information screenshot, if necessary.

As far as I know, any (un)rooting tool will unlock your bootloader to get the job done. Quick Root (along with similar tools, like hasoon2000's "All In One toolkit") will merely automate the process, making it easier. The end result is the same, though: An unlock code will have been requested from HTC, and some fusebits will have been blown. Your warranty may or may not be void.
So essentially, there is no way to root without unlocking the bootloader?

I know I'm derailing the thread a bit here, but assuming I do unlock the bootloader and lock it again afterwards for warranty purposes, is there any way to change the RELOCKED warning to LOCKED?
Apparently the following does just that for other HTC devices which have a signed hboot - can anyone confirm?
Code:
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3

You can't change RELOCKED. After first unlock of bootloader you lose warranty for ever.

In the first link, the instructions are to run a RUU (which as far as I understand will set the device to S-ON) and then to run "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3", so I don't quite understand why S-OFF is required.

This is my first tutorial so please be kind to me.(sorry if I make english language mistakes)
THIS IS FOR THE GSM EVO 3D ONLY!!!I TAKE NO RESPONSABILITY IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE,ETC...
IN THIS TUTORIAL I WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO MAKE YOUR BOOTLOADER SAY LOCKED (NOT RELOCKED !!!) AND APPLY S-ON.(IN MY COUNTRY IT'S MANDATORY OR ELSE THEY WON'T REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY)
I DON'T THINK THIS WILL WORK IF YOU UNLOCKED YOUR PHONE VIA HTC METHOD(BUT YOU CAN TRY).I UNLOCKED THE PHONE WITH THIS METHOD:http://mess-hall.co.uk/2012/04/rooting-htc-evo-3d-hboot-1-49-0018/.
1)If you need one make a nandroid backup.(when the phone returns from service you will have all things set up)
2)Download this(DO NOT RENAME OR UNZIP IT) and put it in the root of your sd card.
https://rapidshare.com/files/3836158591/PG86IMG.zip
3)Enter bootloader(deselect fastboot, turn off phone, press and hold power button and vol up button for couple sec). Now it will check for that file and it will ask you if you want to install it.Select YES.
4)After it's all done turn on phone, skip through the first settings, and when the OS has loaded up go to settings>about phone>software updates and update the phone to the latest version.
5)After the update process has completed turn off phone and enter bootloader again.Go to fastboot and connect the phone to the computer via USB.(IT SHOULD SAY FASTBOOT USB).
6)Download this, unzip, rename the folder to something simple(one letter naming,ex: a) and put it in C:\(or the root of any other partition)
https://rapidshare.com/files/2550062005/fastboot_cmd.rar
7)Open up cmd in windows and navigate to that folder(in this example the letter of my partition will be "C" and the name of the folder will be "a").ex: cd C:\a
8)In cmd type "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3" without the " ".Press ENTER.
9)Click on restart bootloader and when the bootloader restarts it should say "LOCKED" and S-ON

UPDATED FOR HTCDEV UNLOCKED MEMBERS
I just recieved a PM in which a user(mmick) thanks me for this tutorial and tells me how he managed to obtain LOCKED S-ON after unlocking via htcdev. You have the message below.
"""
Hi John! Thank you very much for your tutorial to LOCK + S-ON
Mine was unlocked by HTCDev and S-Off by Revolutionay, I did this tutorial and it worked very well!
Here it is
1) I did Power + Vol Down (and used the PG86IMG on the first page, on the microSD) and it flashed good!
2) Then I ran the RUU_Shooter_U_HTC_Europe_1.20.401.2. Then I got "RELOCKED" and "Shooter...S-OFF RL" instead of revolutionary as before.
3) I did Power + Vol Down and entered Fastboot. Then I went to the CMD (Windows) and wrote, on the Fastboot folder "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3". Now I am on RELOCKED + S-ON.
4) Rooted and used ControlBear + Wire Trick. Now it says "JyopunutBear"! (instead of locked/relocked or whatever).
5) I did again step 2 and everything went good!!!
Now LOCKED + S-ON!
I think it could be an excelent idea to pick this and join with your tutorial. This way everyone can do it easily and with no risk

No I am not. You flashed the zip file before that removed the unsigned Hboot (S-OFF).
Then the command is okay. But when you still have the REVOLUTIONARY sign (which means it is a unsigned bootloader) it will brick your device. Try it out if you don't believe me.
I know way more about these things than you do

It's clear enough that if you update the software of your from from settings>about that will LOCK your bootloader,so when you will apply that command the bootloader will show LOCKED NOT RELOCKED.it's clearly that you don't know a lot of things.I did this recently(less than a week ago,in the exact order and everything worked just fine)
I don't care about the locked part. I don't say anything about that. Just warning the peops that have s-off and an unsigned bootloader.

I'm no dev by any means but why did htc allow you to root the phone and unlock the boot loader and still keep s-on? Doesnt that defeat the purpose? I've been away from htc devices for a while so I'm curious as I'm really close to purchasing this.
HTC is stupid. They don't want kernels/radios to be flashed via recovery. Possibly because of more potential bricks. Hey. At least it's better than nothing.
Its to protect the end users. With an unlocked bootloader, you have all the tools to run custom software, but its near impossible to perm brick the device. But after you remove the nand security, it becomes alot easer to brick a device. Giving people access to the fastboot erase commands and write access to partitions like bootloader.

Been there done that lol.
I have a rooted AT&T One X+ that I unlocked via HTCDev when I first got it and now run Elegencia. I'd like to update to the newest RUU (to get the radio/hboot/all the new stuff) before updating my phone again (running an older Elegencia version currently). I understand that running the RUU will wipe the SD card/phone/recovery/everything and bring me back entirely to stock and will relock the bootloader. My problem is that I don't have the unlock token from HTCDev anymore for the bootloader. Does anyone know if it's still possible to unlock the bootloader for an AT&T One x+ via HTCDev or did they close that loophole??? Or is there a way for me to recover the unlock token?
Thanks!
I want to do the same and from what I have read you can still unlock from HTCDev after updating.
The only thing I don't know is do you need to relock the bootloader before running the RUU?
I don't think you need to relock before running the RUU, it should do it itself I would think.
I've also done some more reading and I'm also wondering if it's really worth it....looks like you can flash the radio. May just pass on having to deal with unlocking/that whole thing again.

You have to relock bootloader and then you are able to run the ruu. If bootloader is unlocked and you try to run the ruu the setup will not complete and fail.
Have you tried to obtain the unlock.bin from the HTC website again since it was deleted?

This is where I got my unlock.bin to unlock my bootloader. The steps are very easy, Go here http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader and where it says "Select device" select 'Other supported models' and follow the on screen steps. Then they will email you your unlock.bin to unlock your bootloader
OK so I need to go through the process again, I thought there'd just be a way to get the bin file again without having to do it again, oh well.
Guess question becomes whether it's really worth it or not....

I think your a little confused. Moonshine will likely be an s-off method (direct s-off)... anyway my point being that htcdev does not facilitate s-off at all, it simply unlocks the bootloader allowing the use of custom recoveries and hence roms/kernels. My money is on a direct s-off method because i know the nature of beaups and fuses hacking background and previous work.
furthermore if im correct then htcdev wont be entirely necessary because a different hboot can be flashed without it giving the user write access to the boot and system partitions
I don't think it's possible to unlock without htcdev... I can't wait to put some sense 5 then cm 10.1.... I actually had a question regarding backups before I root. How exactly should I be backing up my phone? Unlock–>put twrp –> use x app to create nandroid and get that on computer somehow and then flash?

I thought beaups mentioned after s-off you flash the eng hboot, ruu 1.15, get supercid, and then unlock through htcdev.

It's possible that I'm confused, but, I do know that for facepalm to work, you had to be unlocked using super CID. Then you could do the s-off method. I was basing my statement on that. It's entirely possible that moonshine does not require an unlocked bootloader to work. We will find out in due time.
Edit: I'm fully aware that HTCDEV does not give s-off.
From my S-Off DNA
Moonshine will not require htc-dev unlock on the DNA. If it did, it would be useless for the stuck 2.xx users.
It will give you s-off and "UNLOCK" status, together.

Since you are S-Off, you can simply unlock and relock the bootloader at will. On my M7, I changed the MID through notepad, and overwrote the file, but can be done either way. Once I had the CID and MID correct I ran the RUU and it worked. I even had Wi-Fi calling. I only did it as a test, but everything worked out fine. If anything has changed from the M7 to M8, please chime in so I'm not steering the OP wrong.

Yep, s-off does not require the boot loader to be locked when flashing ruu's.
